1 star I hardly take the time to write bad reviews. However the service here was so terrible. We started at the farmers market then three of us stopped in afterward and ordered the large fajita upgrade platter to share, plus drinks. We ended up boxing most of it to take home since we weren't very hungry, just enjoying the day and exploring local businesses. From the start, the tone with our server Felipe, felt off. We spoke to him in Spanish, and although he responded in English (which was completely fine) his demeanor was consistently unfriendly and dismissive. When we asked something simple "Do you have another spicy sauce?" his response was short and irritated: "It's already in the table." It set the tone for the rest of the experience but we never said a thing and continued our own convo. At one point, he came back when we had barely touched our food and asked if we wanted to order more food. The way it was said didn't feel like a genuine check-in; it came across as judgmental, as if we weren't ordering enough. It made the experience uncomfortable. That kind of pressure doesn't match how we were approaching the day. Toward the end, he dropped the check and came back almost immediately, asking if we could pay now because he needed to close us out before leaving. We understand that sometimes staff need to close out tables quickly when they're leaving. I got up, paid with Apple Pay, and he printed the receipt in front of me. I told him I would bring the pen back to the table. I returned to the table (because I don't like signing tips in front of a server), and the only thing left was adding a tip. We were still talking when he came back literally a minute after I said, "I'll bring your pen back," and interrupted again asking, "Did you sign it already?" I said no and asked for a minute. He responded, "I need it already, I'm leaving." At that point I asked why I was being rushed. He then said, "Well if you want to put zero, then just put a zero on the tip. I need the receipt," in a very aggressive tone. Right after that, he went to another table and was noticeably warm and apologetic with them. We experienced a completely different version of him. Another server later mentioned this wasn't the first complaint about him and agreed there was no reason to rush us -- the tip would have come regardless. I still tipped 20%. Not because it was earned, but because that's the standard I personally follow. Food was also not authentic so if you want great service and even better food, this isn't the place. read more

The staff acted like i was bothered them when I walked in. They did allow me to choose my own seat but were non existent for most of the time. The food was okay, my drink was the best part but it was kinda good. I wish my food had flavor and my tacos literally fell apart in my hand. read more

Alberto's has a low average, which I never understood. I'd go with 3.5 stars, rounding up as usual. We've been there many times, either getting fajitas or burritos, and it's always been pretty good. Service is slow at times, but not unreasonable. Brightly colored like Americans prefer their Mexican restaurants. We recently visited again after the management changed hands, and didn't notice much of a difference, still pretty good, with plenty of food. There were a couple of decorative items added, like pickled onions and a grilled lemon half. The latter was nice, as I liked squeezing the extra lemon into my shrimp. read more

We love coming to albertos always amazing food, good prices and great service. Diego always treats us good and takes care of us.

Six years later and I tried to give this place another shot but it's another miss for me. The service was slow and the waiters really don't know how to respectfully talk to people. Our waiter checked on us about three times in five minutes to get our drink orders and meals. Then I never saw him again until it was time to pay. Mind you, there was maybe four tables dining at the time with several waiters. I saw another tables waiter checked on them several times and even brought out additional chips and salsa. The women's bathroom was pretty dirty and could use some TLC. The food here is very underwhelming and the only redeeming thing is the long list of margarita options. I would not recommend this place to any friends. read more

So, I'm rewriting this because my original review here got removed after the business flagged it for "looking like AI." I honestly laughed because I wrote it myself, on my couch, after eating here. If anything, maybe it was too honest? Anyway, here we go again. I've been in Pleasanton long enough to remember when Alberto's used to be the go-to spot for a casual Mexican dinner. I don't know what happened, but the food on my last visit was just... not it. The chips were stale. Not "kind of stale," I mean the kind where you tap one on the table and it makes a little clink sound. The salsa tasted like someone whispered the idea of a tomato into a blender and called it a day. I ordered enchiladas, which should not be complicated, but the whole plate came out lukewarm and kind of sad. The rice looked tired. The beans tasted like they were just checking in but not really participating. Nothing was actually bad enough to complain to the server about -- it was more like the entire meal just gave up halfway through. Speaking of the server: they were great. Super friendly. Definitely not their fault. I tipped well because the service was honestly the best part of the night. But when you leave a restaurant feeling full and still thinking about where you should have gone instead... that kind of says everything. I'm only posting this again because the first version got nuked, which was weird. I guess my writing style accidentally offended someone. Honestly, the new owners have made this place amazing. Before, it had horrible food , service, and drinks. I went back yesterday after 15 years since I've heard so much positive feedback about all the changes. The hostess was warm and friendly and very welcoming. Our server was amazing! I had the best margaritas there. Definitely order the picante papi if you love spicy drinks. The food was delicious. I couldn't believe I was dining at Alberto's and had no complaints! I ordered the combo trio fajitas and all I got to say is wow. You can tell the new quality and freshness the new owners have brought to this establishment. I had a really disappointing and dishonest experience here. While we were dining, the waiter came over and told us that the man at the next table had paid for everything. I was shocked so I asked him 3 times and he gave me the same answer. He even encouraged us to order another drink because it was "already covered." I wasn't planning to, but I agreed as he said it's paid for and I felt pressured After the man left, we thanked him and then the waiter came back with a bill. When I asked why, he said the man had only paid for one drink. That's not what he said earlier. It felt like a trick to get me to order more, and that's unacceptable. Update! The owner responded, stating the steak is CLEARLY and up charge. It specifically says the trio combo is an up charge not that asking for half different meat was an up charge. Additionally it gave the option of chicken or beef which i asked if i could do half and half. I did NOT upgrade to the trio, which is $12 The service was okay, it felt like our waitress was NOT having a good time. Additionally - they added $12 on to our fajitas for asking for half chicken and half steak. If they had said it's going to be $12 i would have just done one. i didn't ask for a larger portion or anything. If they want to up charge that's fine but be transparent about it so people can make informed choices. read more

Don't let the low rating fool you. This place is awesome. They started us off with some free chips & salsa and they were delicious. The chips are warm and salty. The salsa had a subtle hint of oregano which made it unique. I ordered a chile relleno and it was super tasty. There was a mix up in the kitchen and my wife received the wrong order but they immediately apologized, took it off the bill, and gave us a free replacement. We were very impressed by the customer service and especially on a busy day for them. We can't wait to go back. Kudos to Sarah and Ella for great service despite an extremely busy lunch service and mix up with the entree. read more

Quality and fresh food with classic and Mexican American options. My burrito was enormous and packed with hearty and flavorful ingredients. The shredded chicken, fish, and ground beef were all cooked nicely and not greasy at all. I haven't tried the carne asada yet. Great service and cute ambience. Chips and salsa very fresh with a mild flavor suitable for all palates. The salsa on the fish tacos was delicious, prepared like pico de gallo but didn't have a strong lime flavor. I personally like spicier salsas so next time I'll ask if they have a hot salsa. It's a great experience to dine in and our server even gave us chips and salsa with our to go order! Almost a year under new management. Flavor of food has improved considerably. Presentation has also improved. Outside dining is much quieter than inside. Tomas is an awesome server. This place was easy to access and in downtown Pleasanton so lots of parking around. We were seated immediately. The waiter gave us chips and salsa as soon as we ordered and handed the menus back. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice... well you know... We decided to give this place a shot since it has been over a decade from our last visit which was abysmal to say the least. They are able to pull in their patrons simply because this place is located right in the middle of Main Street and has a good sized outdoor seating area... easy pickings...The interior is dated, floors dirty, as in, we watched as the owner/manager person was standing in the front doorway completely oblivious to the pile of leaves he was standing on. The table was sticky, as were our menus. Which by the way, the plastic menus are so overly used, that the ink is worn off so you have to guess what the correct prices are...Servers are sort of haphazard and emotionless/robotic. And, the food... UGH... worst ever. It's just not even worth describing how Sysco pedestrian and flavorless it all tastes (sorry Sysco)... We called it the "Don Joses" of Pleasanton. I called the waiter and told him the meat was extremely tough. He said he would replace it, and I asked for chicken instead.
