I'm not sure if this place changed ownership but I used to go to Golden State Taqueria much more a few years ago and I happened to be craving it. I ordered a spicy burrito which states it comes with: Choice of meat, rice, beans, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, jalapeños & tomatillo sauce. I see some round objects in my burrito which turns out to be carrots. There was also large amounts of jalapeños. I'm not sure what carrots are doing in my burrito since they aren't listed and I feel like they stuffed it so much with carrots and jalapeños to avoid putting more meat in. The carrots very much threw off my experience and now I'm not sure if I will come back. I think they also changed their tortilla chips and they are a very odd flavor now. I'll be looking for a different taqueria in Pleasanton. read more

We got our food to go, so I can't really comment on the location or decor. The order took longer than their estimate to make, which adds to things when there is a squirmy toddler around. The first thing I noticed about the food was the WEIGHT of the burrito. It was heavy and it was full. I couldn't even finish it there was so much to it. When this place first opened, it was good. It's been a while, but since I was nearby, I thought I'd give it another visit. It was around lunchtime. I ordered a super burrito which one of the ingredients it comes with is guacamole so halfway through my burrito I noticed there isn't any guacamole. I asked the person who took my order if the super burrito comes with guacamole he say yes I told him I'm halfway through. I don't see any in my burrito. He then tells me Let's open up the burrito. doesn't sound like he believes me and why would I want to ruin my burrito experience by opening it. he gave me a side of guacamole, but as far as the taste of the food it isn't really there anymore. which is why I don't really go back. I been here a couple times already over the past three years. It never disappoints. I was on my way to physical therapy, and quite hungry. Ordered a simple quesadilla with Asada. I can't emphasize how consistent this place has been, every single visit. It's quite remarkable really. Same taste, same good service, same speed of service, and overall always a good experience. Great classic street tacos after a long day. Server at the checkout desk was very helpful with price checking & was very welcoming, and they spoke Spanish. The corn flavor in their tortillas was strong, a good indicator of freshness. Their Al Pastor is more oily than I'm used to, but so full of flavor. My order also came with chips & salsa, ultimately used the salsa on the tacos though, lol. Highly recommend coming on Tuesdays or Thursdays for their $9 3-taco plate. We doordashed two super burritos- one carne asada and one al pastor, and requested refried beans instead of whole beans in case whole beans were the default- and we enjoyed them both. I liked the pastor and my boyfriend liked the carne asada. The tortilla was soft and stretchy and the guac and beans were good. I did wish the pastor and rice weren't as dry, though. One call out would be their salsas- skip the red but grab a bunch of the green salsas. They are thick and one of the best salsa verdes I've ever had. I ordered the deep fried whole Tilapia served with rice and beans for $18. It's one of the more expensive items on the menu here ... I guess compared to tacos and burritos. My daughter and I stopped by Golden State Taqueria on the way to a show and I'd give it a solid 3 stars. Let's get into why... Ambiance - The inside of this taqueria is fairly large. It's good for groups of any size and on our visit it was clean on the inside. I didn't see a lot of dirty tables or anything, so nothing to complain about here. You're not going to get an extravagant decor in a taqueria, so the cleanliness was a plus. Food - The food was just okay. My daughter had a burrito and I had a burrito bowl. I found the pollo asado to be just average. It had a slightly odd aftertaste to it that I couldn't quite nail down. My daughter really enjoyed the rice. Since all of my stuff was mixed together I couldn't quite pinpoint any specific item of my burrito bowl being good or bad outside of the meat. Service - You order at the counter, and the lady who took our order delivered our food. She was pleasant to speak with, but as with most taquerias you essentially serve yourself so not much to write home about here. Overall, the most negative experience of this meal was the food (for me) and with that being the most important part of the experience, I left a little disappointed. The prices were not super cheap, so I didn't feel like I received much value for what I got. The restaurant itself is not much to look out outside. It's in a strip mall next to other eateries. However inside is nicely done, almost like a sit down restaurant...almost. Eating area is clean and food is freshly prepared. The tilapia was perfectly fried, with just a pinch of salt. Great with freshly squeezed lime. The Mrs had a tostada salad with carne asada that was also very good. Horchata was good but maybe a tad watery. Overall a good taqueria that we will come back to. Mass marketing has made me think about Mexican food on Tuesday and Thursday's. So on this Thursday, my first food thought was Mexican food. After running errands nearby, I stopped here. Service is pleasant with plenty of tables to select. Reviewing their extensive menu on the wall, I ordered the cheese enchiladas plate with large mango aqua fresca. Chips and salsa were provided. The enchiladas were piping hot with the nice cheese melting. Together with rice and beans, always a favorite made a very enjoyable plate. Still great 3 years later. My wife and sometimes kids come here 1-2 times a month and always for breakfast. The breakfast burrito here is a favorite of my kids and my wife and I enjoy the chilaquiles. I found out just last week that they have whole beans if you ask for them, so now I always do. read more

Not sure how long this taqueria has been here. This place is roomy and has a lot of potential. It has a nice feel to it as a walk from the front door. I feel like I just walked inside a restaurant in Cabo where they greet you.....Hola! Como estas! lol. It's very welcoming! Now, if I may give a fair and proper critic to make their business prosper. I truly believe they can do better. Today we ordered 2 Super burritos, one carnitas, the other one grilled chicken. I love how it's not too salty like some other places I've tried. Their burrito size is good however it is a lot slimmer than what I'm used to. The wraps are thin and soft which I love, they just need to add a little bit more meat. I cut the burritos in half because I can never finish a whole one. Half of the chicken burrito didn't have a single chicken in it. I think they can work on allocating the chicken better. I personally like refried beans and they had regular pinto beans inside with very bland taste. So, for that half of burrito, I only had bland tasting beans with lots of sour cream & yummy rice. The other half had the chicken, but not sure if it was grilled. Carnitas burrito is much better than chicken, in my opinion. Salsa has no kick to it. I like my burrito with some hot salsa. One salsa they gave me is a good portion for half the burrito only. We ordered cheese enchiladas and a veggie burrito to go and was on time to pick it up. It was ice cold and neither meal was edible. We have been there before and it was always barely edible but we said one last chance because it's close. Well you know what I'm going to say. Stay away from that place. There is much better taquerias in the area that serves better food. They should be shut down or hire all new cooks. There should also be some toe of quality control before a customer is handed their meal. You have the opportunity to do that if you eat in their depressing little dining room but pick up and delivery needs to be watched closer. All I can say again is don't waste your money at this place. I was craving Mexican food on a Friday evening and leisurely browsing Yelp for some inspiration. I stumbled on a juicy photo of al pastor fries loaded with sour cream, guacamole, and all the fixings. I was sold! I knew I had to have a taste of those magical loaded fries. Let me tell you, they did not disappoint! We were set for delivery and I waited with great anticipation. The first thing I went for was the al pastor fries. The layers of goodness was so nicely presented and I loved the large amounts of sour cream and guacamole! The fries were crispy and it was so tasty. Next, I dug in to my ginormous wet burrito. It was filled with more delicious al pastor rice, beans, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, salsa, and topped with mole sauce and cheese. I ended up only finishing half of it and it tasted great as leftovers the next day. My fiancé got the super burrito and really enjoyed it. We had split some fish tacos. I was a little disappointed since the tortilla broke apart and it was likely was due to being steamed in the container during delivery. Although I probably won't be coming back for the tacos, I would say their burritos are a must try! We had a seamless delivery experience. Everything was packaged really well.
