Disclaimer: This review is on the Christmas pop up only. I finally had the opportunity to try out Kona during the holiday and it was a fun time. The place inside is decked out in Christmas and playing holiday movies and music. Loved the Christmas vibes! The drinks were also good and sweet (expected with tiki drinks). They had lots of options and shareables as well which I loved. The one downside was that there was a very strong rotten egg odor that kept appearing while there. This of course took away from the lovely vibes because YUCK who wants to smell that. It was strong enough that the staff kept lighting sage and walking through to try and mask the smell. Because of that I am knocking it 2 stars because even after changing seats it was just nasty lol. I think if they fix whatever issue that was it would be a 5/5 from me. read more

There's something about Tiki and Christmas that go hand in hand. Throw in a dog themed bar and I think I've found my happy place. We had a cute little time at Kona's for our little tiki crawl in SF. Arrived on a Friday evening and this place was packed! We came during the holiday pop up so many folks were in the mood to celebrate. We managed to grab a drink which was the Sippin' Santa. Super good! We of course couldn't leave the place without a tiki mug and purchased a Santa mug for ourselves. Spent about 40 minutes here and loved it but would love to come back another time when it's not as busy. Still super cute and fun way to enjoy both the holiday season and a nice tiki bar. read more

Awesome bar/cocktail lounge with an upbeat yet cool and grungy vibe. Even though they had some great mixology going on, it was still a very chill spot. I was staying a the hotel next door and a group of us came over right as they opened. We sat at the bar and perused the regular and happy hour menus. Two of us went with regular cocktails and two the happy hour drinks. Wished that we had more time or that they stayed open a little later so we could've tried more of the drinks before or after our activities. I thoroughly enjoyed my pimms cup, and everyone else enjoyed their drinks as well. They also had a menu of some elevated hotdogs that sounded really good. I LOVED this spot! I was in town for a work trip and stopped in after checking into the hotel next door right as they opened on Tuesday at 4pm. We had a full night booked, but wanted a cocktail and as soon as I learned they serve hot dogs I knew I'd need one of those as well. We grabbed a spot at the bar and although their happy hour deals were fun, I opted for the more expensive Blushing Dragon ($18) that ended up being absolutely delicious and beautiful. When you get a half passionfruit and spoon to eat it, you know it's fancy. I also got a Sisig hot dog and it was excellent. I love a hot dog at a bar, and I love it even more when they have elevated flavors. The bartender was also so friendly and made sure we had plenty of water. If we didn't already have plans I would have stayed for more drinks. I'll absolutely be back in the future- such a vibe! read more

Came here for happy hour and it did not disappoint! The space is beautiful, super open, and has plenty of seating. There's even a billiards table and some old-school arcade games, which made it even better. Their happy hour deals were solid since cocktails were around $12. I got the Tokyo Old Fashioned, and it was smooth and perfectly balanced, so of course, I had to get a second one. Service was great too; our server was super attentive and checked in often, so we never had to flag him down. Overall, it's a great spot to hang out and grab drinks. 12/7 I guess Santa Claus can come in various forms, and he doesn't just reside on the North Pole. Where: my friends and I stumbled upon this bar that is currently all decked out in Tiki Christmas decor. If you want to see how Santa Claus fairs in warm tropical climates, then this is where you should be this holiday season. You'll find this bar within walking steps to the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Downtown Soma. What: Santa in Hawaiian shirts, Tiki themed stockings, and colorful lights can be experienced here. All of the holiday themed drinks can be enjoyed in an equally holiday themed mug. The mugs can also be purchased. For collateral, the bartenders will ask for an ID/Drivers License, and will be returned when the mug is returned. How: we all ordered the Sipping Santa, which is a mojito based drinks. Pretty tasty, and though the mug is a bit cheesy, but certainly fits the theme of the season. Thoughts: while the bar itself was a bit crowded, the ambiance was still very festive. Wishful thinking on my part because I'm a tiki aficionado, but this is actually a craft cocktail bar with global elements applied for inspiration. It's a cool concept in the former Quizno's space. Not only cool but Nathan the bartender is a star. He actually remembered me and my drink order from my first visit over four months ago. Beyond impressive because trust me, I'm not that memorable. We came to Kona's for their Xmas pop up and really enjoyed the festive atmosphere and holiday drinks. It can get crowded right after work but they have the bar and some tables that are first come first serve as well as reserved tables. Their drinks are on the stronger/sweeter side so keep that in mind if you're not a fan of that. read more

The bartender actually serves the drinks directly to our tables and was very knowledgeable on the cocktails from the menu and was attentive in what everyone in my group was feeling that night. The decor of the bar was cool. There was a lot of vintage art from movies and various themes on the walls, arcade games such as a pin ball machine, and even a pool table. In the middle of the wall behind the bar counter was a neon light sign that I'm assuming is the either the logo or mascot of the bar. I got the Golden highball, which had pandan, calpico, oleha, and soda. The fragrance of the pandan was so aromatic that I would wear it as a cologne. The drink wasn't too strong nor sweet. So glad I finally got to check out Kona's Bar (sister bar of pacific cocktail haven) for a friends birthday this week. Great vibes and service with fantastic cocktails that all sound so good! Pristine bathrooms which is not always common for SF Our server Tristan was so thoughtful and brought over a birthday cupcake and candle for our friend when he heard us doing a birthday toast. I was also impressed with how well he knew the menu and made recommendations based on all the different flavor profiles we were looking for. It's downtown close to the office and near Moscone so definitely a great place to checkout after work or a conference. Highly recommend! read more

Cute decorations all around with a Santa pop out in the front, Christmas lights overhead, and gift wrapping paper on the walls. There's limited number of bar seating and tables, but if you're just walking in, you can usually snag standing space near the number of ledges they have around the bar. For a Saturday night, it can get pretty loud, but the foot traffic comes and goes throughout the night. The menu offered a variety of tiki-themed drinks with rum, but my friends and I ordered the Yule Tide with tequila. Drinks were reasonably priced for themed cups and moderately strong. The bartenders were in theme with their buttoned up shirts and Santa hats, keeping the image of tiki bar meets Christmas on vacation. Worth checking out and I would definitely try some of the other drinks next time. read more

I went to a holiday pop up on Polk and the drinks which were already overpriced were poorly made. It tasted straight up like liquor with bad sugar syrup. M Holiday On Ice: Tasted like a latte. Nice and foamy . Merry spritzes: Sweet and citrusy at the same time. We came in early around 7:30 pm after eating near Union Square. There was no line but it did start forming around 9 pm. Such a cute spot to grab yummy drinks. We went on a Friday at around 9 PM, wasn't busy so we were able to be seated right away. There's a good amount of seating. The ambiance is cozy. The bartenders are very nice and friendly. I love playing pool, and there's one pool table. 3 games for $5. I ordered the Hot Gurl Summer it was flavored with a good amount of spices. We came by on a weekday night for Sippin' Santa (the holiday popup). This is definitely a place you come for the vibes and the service instead of the drinks. At $18 per drink, the price is pretty steep, especially for the size you are given (pretty tiny). I got Jingle Birds (pineapple rum, bourbon, Campari, lime, jingle mix) and my boyfriend got Ho Ho Hot Buttered Rum (rum, spiced honey butter, vanilla, passion fruit). Both had a pretty strong alcohol taste which may be great to some, but wasn't really our thing. The presentation of the drinks was super cute though and I enjoyed looking at all the holiday mugs. The tropical decorations and warm lighting inside the bar definitely add to the experience. What sets this place apart is its unique approach to orders. While you can place orders directly at the bar, they also have waitstaff circulate to take orders for ppl standing around. The seamless execution of this system, especially in a bustling environment where ppl are constantly on the move, is commendable. How they manage to get the drinks right and get paid is impressive. I love Kona's! I went here with a few friends for their Sippin Santa (the bar's Christmas theme) and I had such a great time! No cover also! The decor inside is incredible and so Christmassy in the best possible way. t's such a fun environment to sit in while you sip your drinks and catch up with friends. They have gift-wrapped walls and so many cute lights and Christmas blow-ups inside and it feels just magical. The drinks are also holiday themed and come in adorable cups/mugs. I got the hot buttered rum and it was very strong. But I loved the flavor and how it was warmed up -- a perfect drink for a cold day. The service here is so wonderful. Really friendly and attentive workers. They were giving out Hawaiian leis to all the customers which I thought was so cute. Whenever I visit the city, I always want to come to Kona Street Market for their Boracay Old Fashioned. It's made from gin, coconut water and pandan, it is extremely light and smooth with the perfect amount of sweetness. I recommend this drink to all my friends and it's definitely top 3 of my favorite drinks and there's no bars out here that make it like them! The service was quick, our server was kind! There was a live DJ on a Saturday night. Music is a bit loud so can be hard to hear if on a date, but perfect for rowdier crowds, plenty of space, clean bathrooms. Hours are slightly inaccurate, they close at 11pm but if it's poppin, they stay opened! So come even if it's 10:55pm! read more

Whenever I'm in the city, Kona's is on my radar. I first fell in love with them during their annual Sippin' Santa events. A cool tiki bar with great cocktails and Asian-influenced drinks, and each drink made with a lot of care and passion. Their holiday events definitely get packed and I'm grateful my brother always took me along with him to these events! Kona's Street Market is honestly a great hidden gem. Their servers are always so nice and my brother's even befriended one of them. Their local feel and care for POC in the community shows! I also love the intimate speakeasy tiki vibes of this place. I've never been disappointed with a drink. You're definitely ought to find something you like, and you can't definitely ask how each of their drinks are if you're looking or something a little juicier, fruitier, or simple. Their Boracay Old Fashioned is something I will drink regularly - made with coconut water and gin, it's something I'll drink without even realizing there's much alcohol! Delicious and truly refreshing take on an Old Fashioned. I loved their Root of the Barbarians with a rhubarb-pineapple and their Homelander Approved (a nicer, refreshing drink similar to their Boracay Old Fashioned but more herbal with cardamom!). Went to their SFO location and was refused service for not ordering alcohol. Had time and wanted to have a sit down drink at 7:45 AM (god forbid, non alcoholic) and the bartender Gisele said I had to order an alcoholic beverage in order to be there (mind you I'm in my 30s, not an age thing). I told her I just wanted a non alcohol-anything, but she literally told me to go somewhere else. I was the only 'customer' too. read more

Kona street market decorated for the holidays is truly a sight to see as everything is ornately wrapped in gift wrapping paper and multicolored string lights are hung in every corner with Christmas music blasting. The waiters are also ver friendly and nice. That being said, besides the wonderfully delightful ambiance, the drinks and vibe fell flat. The drinks were very overpriced for hat you actually get and turned out to be mostly ice with too much coconut milk and sweetener for my linking. The music was also blasting so loud it was quite hard to hear the conversation with others I came with. There is also a $10 cover fee to enter so do keep that in mind. All in all, Kona is great for sightseeing the decor but if you are looking to have coherent conversation and substantial beverages I recommend looking elsewhere! read more
