I have changed my mind about Aldi. Finding fresh produce, appreciating the clean and pleasant shopping environment has drawn me here more often. The seasonal aisle often features items from Canada which I like. (Tasty products from my childhood.) Their cheese selection is awesome for creating your charcuterie board or changing up your everyday sandwich. Don't let the long checkout lines detour you. They move quickly and the lines disappear pretty fast! Two of the Albrecht brothers own Aldi and the other brother owns Trader Joe's chain. I now, like both bros! LOL read more

I love shopping here because of the smaller selection. Lots of items from Europe especially chocolates he he. The staff is quite friendly at the registers and their prices are better on lots of items. I love the special buy items. Don't forever to bring your quarter for the cart and reusable bags. Dear management at Aldi at 2844 South Alma School Road, Chandler, AZ 85286 1-Star Review: Frustrating Checkout Experience I visited this Aldi location recently and had a very disappointing experience at checkout. I had carefully organized my groceries, separating items by temperature, and had even brought a box to pack them efficiently. When I politely asked the cashier if we could scan the items and place them directly back into the box to maintain the separation, my request was met with a complete lack of understanding and helpfulness. Instead of accommodating a simple and reasonable request that would have made the process smoother for both of us, the cashier seemed unwilling to deviate from their usual routine. This made the checkout process unnecessarily difficult and frustrating. Aldi prides itself on efficiency, but this experience felt anything but. It's incredibly unhelpful when a basic customer request is ignored, especially when it's aimed at preserving the quality of perishable goods. I hope that management at this location will address the need for better customer service and flexibility from their cashiers. A little understanding goes a long way in the police officer who received these groceries was not happy with the results of the poor experience that I received and the fact that he received damaged goods from your store that he paid money for a quality product from Aldi's. I would also like to point out that this is not uncommon for Aldi's to just throw stuff into the cart like it's nothing and as this lady specifically stated to me that she is on a timer for scanning items through her register and she says it directly affects her if she doesn't scan stuff and throw into a cart she openly admitted that she did not care about the groceries being sent out to the customer nor does she care about my needs or the customers needs. This has got to be the cleanest store in Arizona!!! They were sanitizing everything using great safety precautions and they actually had sanitizing stations that actually were filled which, I have not found often in stores! ‍ I stopped in to grab sugar but noticed that they didn't have a wide selection to choose from. It's been years since I shopped in Aldi (Since a Germany trip). I ended up browsing more so, and forgetting to even buy the sugar walking out with nothing. My first problem was entering while hungry so I made the choice to go back on a full tummy. lol I noticed that their grapes and other fruits looked really fresh and well organized. We have been shopping at Aldi since the late 1970s. We are from the Chicagoland area so we're very familiar with what to expect. This store has been a constant disappointment. So much so that we are considering no longer shopping at Aldi for good. The biggest problem is the lack of basic staples. Pretzels, cottage cheese, carrots, mushrooms, bagels, frozen spinach etc. It's completely unacceptable for the store to be out of stock of these items for weeks on end. Period. Even more frustrating is that there's no way to bring this matter to anyone's attention... the toll free customer service number goes to company to which Aldi has outsourced it's customer service. There is no follow up or accountability. So, take it from us, decades-long, loyal customers... this chain is slipping. The prices aren't as low as they could be, many items are often not in stock and the customer service is virtually non-existent. It's very difficult to find any redeeming qualities. The store is clean. So, that's something. read more

I probably should have known better than to try to shop here on their opening weekend. It was crazy busy! I've shopped at Aldis in the Chicago area which have been more spacious than this one. They try to compress a lot of products in the space that they have and while the aisles are fairly wide the shopping carts are equally as wide. As a result, if there are a lot of people shopping you will be moving at a snail's pace as you encounter shopping cart traffic! Unfortunately they also don't offer shopping baskets which I definitely would have used instead for greater mobility and convenience. As for the products sold here, they have rock bottom prices. $.29/lb bananas! $4.99/lb choice ribeye! You can get a box of Girl Scout Cookie Tagalong lookalike cookies for less than $2 too! Since they are a European company you can get European style chocolates too for cheap. Employees were very friendly and nice. What makes their prices so low? They cut back on a few things that your typical grocery store offers. You have to bag your own groceries and bring your own bags. There are also no shopping cart corrals to leave your cart in at the parking lot. Will I be back? This location is pretty far from where I live and while I do love a good deal, there's not much else in this area for me to do. I do know they are opening up an Aldi in Tempe so that will be nice! read more

I am obsessed! What's not to love? Their charcuterie stuff at Christmas time was amazing! I created a wonderful board with lots of options and not too expensive. The produce prices were the best I have seen. At Thanksgiving I got everything to make cranberry salsa for less than $5. The same bag of cranberries at a large chain store was $5! Their freezer selections are impressive too. I love that they are always adding new items every week and not just food. I got a really nice pajama set for $12. I haven't had any issues thus far, just wish there were handheld baskets available. read more

I have mixed thoughts. I think there can be some good deals but I also think it's a supplinetmal store. As in I have to still go to frys for things Aldi doesn't carry. I will say that the cheese section is amazing with great prices. I also found ground lamb for $5. Produce wasn't great. They had cheap potatos and turkey for thanksgiving. My first time there; didn't know that they don't supply bags. You can get lucky and score some cardboard boxes; you bag yourself. I did also buy a $1 bag for storage. We heard Aldi's was open and decided to check it out. My husband was a fan when he lived in Indianapolis. This location is a little over 6 miles south of us. The parking lot was full, but we were able to find a spot not too far away. Staff was wiping down cart handles when we arrived and the usual $.25 "rental" fee was not required due to the grand opening. As we walked in we noticed that it was really crowded, and social distancing was neither being enforced, or encouraged. I was not personally impressed with either the selection or prices, I have been spoiled by bigger stores closer to my house. I also did not see any pet food or supplies. Having cats, this is a total deal killer for me. (Thankfully I stocked up for them last weekend elsewhere.) The flow of foot traffic was pretty steady and the wine collection across from the frozen foods did catch my eye. This store is about the size of your average restaurant. When we were ready to check out we were directed to a short lane. Beware, there is NO room to maneuver within the check out lane, so you need to be in front of your cart in order to unload it, or be a super skinny contortionist....That is NOT one of my many talents. The cashiers are seated, which is great for them, reducing fatigue. Groceries are scanned and immediately placed back in the cart. No bags are offered, however, you can bring your own, or purchase reusable bags there. There is not much conversation between the checker and purchasers, as they want to get you through the lane quickly. We did have a quick hello and have a nice day. A section in front of the aisles is available for patrons to bag and organize their goods prior to leaving. We took our cart back to the car and unloaded our goods in to our large reusable cooler bags. Exiting the lot is an exercise in patience, as cars are coming from four directions, but there is a light, so getting back on to Alma School is relatively easy. I am glad that I went, but I won't return unless I am in the area. I have a half dozen other choices, with wider selections and lower prices, closer to my home. read more

As someone who loves the gluten-free options that Aldi has to offer, I would think twice before coming to this location where the service from what seemed to be the supervisor (short blonde with a bun with hiking boots on) was the worst service I have received in a long time. Walking up to the only open checkout with one bag in hand to be yelled at "IM CLOSED", to then the same cashier/supervisor throwing the cart into me and the newly opened cashier as she walked away into the back. You need a quarter to use the carts bummer! Don't worry you get it back when you return the cart.I was disappointed because I didn't have a quarter.The store was neatly arranged with signs encouraging social distancing. Produce looked very fresh we perused through the isles and found some interesting European cookies , chocolates and creamers.They also a have a isle decided to holiday stuff. Prices were competitive and my guess is they are more of a specialty grocery store with European items think of it as a smaller version of Trader Joe's. I think the variety is not as good. Selection is limited. Lastly they charge for bags 10 cents bummer Again. *Update: docking a star. This location is not where you want to visit when you aren't familiar. There are 0 employees around- aside from the ones stocking who are consumed chatting w/ each other & rudely push you out of the way barging through before closing hours. Granted- they did organize the shelves- but you get shoved out of the way. Stock was scarce. I understand that aspect, but not the lacking price tags. I literally could not find a price for over half the items in the store. They are not organized or placed in the correct places. But the biggest issue here is the lack of employees or help. I stood at the register for 12 minutes- not a single employee in sight. Those stocking avoided eye contact & the vicinity. After 5 deep- someone comes out from the break room on the side. No apology, didn't even acknowledge there was 0 presence on the floor/registers & customers stacking. Barely acknowledged me, couldn't answer questions on prices I didn't see, then had the audacity to scold the person behind me loading their items on the belt... this was not fun. I'm not sure if the savings & fun finds are worth it. This place is more frustration & poor management than it's worth. And product quality is declining. 2/3 items I've purchased have been poor quantity or quality. Every time I speak up- I'm muffled. Not sure I'll be back. *update as of 7/31/21* I've been a member of the FB groups before the local Aldi opened, so my expectations were set a bit higher than what I experienced visiting this location, being the first Aldi visit ever. And, this location is underwhelming. I even went at an unpopular hour because being brand new, I knew it was going to take some learning. The whole cart/quarter thing- there is 0 explanation. I don't know how to maneuver paying for a cart or how to return it, etc... so my first visit I went in with the understanding I can only buy what I can carry. Kind of a disappointment- as there are also 0 employees around to ask for any help. (Between 5-7pm on a Saturday) Frustrating: prices are not clearly marked on much of anything. It is very hard to find the exact price of an exact item unless you want to stare at a collection of tags below the shelves to try & match. Some products didn't have a price at all. I wanted a bolster pillow- couldn't find a single marked price. The register attendant would have had to call someone over to check it or opt to haul it up there. I decided it wasn't worth the hassle. Luckily, I found a stand with purchasable shopping bags- saved my arms a bit. And, I will applaud the MUCH lower price point on everyday grocery items. You really can save quite a bit! However, the selection lacks in certain areas. While there are some very unique & fun finds- you also aren't going to find a lot of other common staples here. The selection isn't as gratuitous as other supermarkets. But it does make a difference for certain things in certain sections. And I will add- what has been dubbed the "Aisle of Shame" on social media is the Aldi Finds aisles- which really are full of some cool stuff! That is pretty much the major draw here, because you really will find something you didn't know you didn't need... and get it! -Yay for my new comfy leggings *aka 'jogging tights' lol* which came from that aisle. I like the cross combo between warehouse prices but not having to buy in bulk quantities. It certainly is favorable! But, I also found a lot less here. I wouldn't be able to complete my entire shopping list at this one store. And, the employee aspect. Again- there wasn't a single employee I found on the floor to ask for help or anything. The gentleman at one of only 3/7 registers open (lines were getting deep) was barely alert & 0 personality. Scolded the couple in front of me for trying to take the cart he loaded their groceries into (also new like me- didn't understand the quarter concept!) but didn't greet me, was annoyed with my price question on the bolster pillow, and barely muttered "thanks" before shoving my receipt at me. I had wanted to engage a little more & ask some basic questions... never mind. I appreciate Aldo for their unique finds & other uncommon items, especially their fair & friendly prices on many items! But, this location needs some improvement. It doesn't seem to match the fantastic rave reviews other locations receive, and maybe find a way to boost/enthuse your store team who don't seem to enjoy being there, if they can be found. We bought a whole grocery cart full the first day they opened. Worst idea ever especially with the Covid spikes lately. It is not worth the hype. Yes the prices are pretty great on certain items but it's honestly not worth the time. The only thing that's worth getting for the price is the Brie cheese for 3 dollars. Everything else you can just wait for deals with frys and safeway and be getting so much better quality foods. The only other thing besides their cheese that's decent is their milk, coffee creamer and price on eggs. Don't forget to bring your own bags and a quarter for the shopping cart. Grand opening was utter chaos. No social distancing or limit on how many inside at one time. It wouldn't surprise me if a good number of people got Covid that day. I'm not sure what it says about me that The excitement of my day was checking out a new grocery store, but I guess that's adult life in 2020. I would compare Aldi to a mix between Fry's and Trader Joe's. The prices are comparable or even cheaper than fries for produce and dairy, but the selection of healthy snacks are closer to Trader Joe's. Produce was hit or miss, as the items are pre-bagged, so you can't be as picky. I was able to get all my regular grocery shopping done in one trip at Aldi. Probably my favorite parts are the knockoff girl scout cookies - they have tagalongs and Samoas for $1.50 or less, and they taste exactly the same! Sorry, Girl Scouts of America, but a deals a deal! I bought two boxes, but my fencing partner, Charles P Thompson, ate almost all of them at practice the other day. I guess I have to go back. As other people mentioned - bring your own tote bag (I would guess the demographic of Yelp reviewers already bring their own tote bags). Also bring a quarter with you if you want to grab a cart. There is a little contraption that you insert a quarter in to unlock your cart. When you are done shopping, you bring the cart back and you get your quarter back. Not the most convenient, but it wards off assholes that don't return their carts like garlic wards off of vampires. read more

Aldi came to Arizona but what every location they have in the valley they are not close to me, but I happen to be in the area for a family event and knew I wanted to check them out. Make sure you have a quarter before you, I had 25 cents, not a quarter, but some one in the parking lot felt pity on me and gave me their cart. 1st impression, I thought Aldi was going to be bigger than what it was, but it was very clean and items spaced out. I did have an idea of what items to grab up so I had those in mind while shopping. I like the layout of the store and the products they have to offer; I did wind up spending some money there and yes I walked away with the peanut butter cups and pineapple wine. Would I make Aldi a weekly shopping place, no, its not conveniently located for me, but I did enjoy looking around and seeing what they have to offer. read more

I was excited to hear Aldi was opening in AZ because I had heard about it in other states. First of all, make sure you have a quarter on hand for the deposit on a cart. You slide a quarter into a contraption, which lets you take a cart from the carts that are linked together. When you return the cart, you attach your cart back onto the rest of the carts and can remove your quarter. Pretty nifty! I noticed that some items were cheaper than at my regular grocery store, but the selection and variety was unfortunately less here. Tip: You can get knock off girl scout cookies that taste just like the real thing and they are just a fraction of the price! Another tip is to make sure you bring a reusable bag. If you need a bag, you'll have to purchase them for 10 cents each. I'm glad I didn't check out Aldi around their grand opening since from reading the reviews, it looks like it was quite crowded. The things I like about Aldi is there are always surprises, just last week was there Bi-annual German week which included sweet and savory strudels, real german sausage, various frozen dessert cakes. The produce section is not large, but it does have a good breadth of products. It is low budget (25c to release a cart, which you get back when you return it), bag your own groceries etc. I do scratch my head at some of the household items they sell like floor mats, pans etc that change on a regular basis, but I did get quac storage bowl one time that allows you to force out all the air and that worked find. read more

I'm so excited to have a local ALDI. I always go to ALDI when we travel to CA but now there is one just 20 minutes away and more to come in the Phoenix area. For those not familiar with ALDI the closest thing I can compare it to is Fresh and Easy. You won't find a dozen different brands of each item but most everything you need is there. Great prices on their brands of pantry items and dairy, and a fun selection of sweets. Bring a quarter to rent a shopping cart, you get it back, and bring your own shopping bags or pay a few cents for theirs. Basically this review is based solely on customer service at checkout. The store is clean and fun, easy to navigate so for that part it's 5 stars. I wanted to address the rudeness and complete lack of personality that belongs to Irra I believe was the name of this cashier. No greeting as you walk up to the conveyor belt, just a rude "put your stuff on the belt"... well okay guy give me a second... I'm not part of your marathon race to get me out of the store... doing my best here." Is there a race that I'm not aware of at this store? Did customer service just fly out the windows at this place? I was so excited when they opened. I've heard so many good things about them and have seen so many good variety items that I really wanted to try. I've gone twice now to this location and have been disappointed both times. The first time was on opening day. It was extremely packed and social distancing wasn't great in the store at all since the store isn't that big. Since it was so packed I felt rushed and couldn't really explore a lot of their items. I went again about a week ago and it was the same thing. Still very packed and they didn't have any of the items that I've seen online and wanted to get. I was imagining something similar to Trader Joes since they have a lot of specialty items from what I've seen online, however, that wasn't the case. Please also bring a shopping bag because they charge for bags and also it costs a quarter to obtain a cart, however, you get the quarter back when you return your cart. We heard a lot of good things about Aldi's so we went to try them out -- our summation is NOT GOOD! And other shoppers should beware!! First of all, not all things are cheaper than Fry's or Albertson's. But there were a lot of negatives we experienced. Let me tell you about them -- first of all, it costs a quarter to use a shopping cart. WTF? You might say only a quarter, but other grocery stores don't charge you anything. They also charge you for a shopping bag! And the biggest bitch I have is that their weekly ads are very misleading and meant to purposely get you into their store and then screw you. They supposedly had stuffing mix on sale for $.75 a box. But then we discovered that only the chicken stuffing was on sale, and not any of the other 8 or so types of same brand stuffing mix. To make matters worse, they had no chicken stuffing in stock! Further, WTH puts chicken stuffing only on sale during Thanksgiving? Unless you are purposefully trying to mislead consumers. Also they had chicken broth on sale -- the key words are chicken broth. Not chicken stock, not beef broth, not beef stock, or anything turkey. WTH? Other sale items were offered with the same kind of misleading strategies associated with them. read more

The store is very clean, you do get good prices on off brands, but you will pay a premium for brand products. You pay a quarter to get a cart to shop with snd you bag what you buy. Is it worth driving out of your way to come here no. How they advertised you'd think you'd be getting high priced items at a very good price, not the case at this store. Half the stuff I'm not even sure if it's of good quality or not. Produce has some good pricing, but it's limited. If I were throwing a party, I'd stick to Costco. Wasn't worth my time. If you have children and you like feeding them lots of snacks with lots of sugar, then go for it. They carry nothing that's vegan. So I'll go to Trader Joe's. read more

Having shopped at ALDI for many years when I lived in Lincoln Park I was excited one was opening up here in Chandler. Stopped by to check out the store and see the offerings. It's much smaller than I had anticipated and fell short on my expectations. Definitely not the selection I remember having in the Midwest and didn't really see the savings from a store like WinCo. Some things like avocados at $0.44 were cheaper but something like GT's kombucha at $2.98 is the same price everywhere else. Some decent brand names in addition to their house label. read more

Went to grab a basket and WHAT? 25 cents YES 25 cents for a basket. The place is a bit larger than Trader Joes BUT it is no Joes in any shape for or class. I did not know one brand, except for the orange peppers. Most of the stuff I would never buy, it looked like cheap junk. I love all dis for very specific items. The prices are good , often 50% lower than other supermarket brands. Having said that, you have to pick and choose which of the Aldiss brand items fit your taste. The cheese items are really good and so are their canned staples. We particularly like their brand of chicken breakfast sausage and turkey bacon. Great value and tastes good. Their snack items, crackers and cookies and such are very good snd good value as well in addition to their cottage cheese and sour cream. The soups, imported from Germany are very good !! I live in California and shop at Aldi's regularly. I'm happy to see they finally opened one here since I'm here a lot. This is not a large super store but you can't beat there prices. Their products are mainly their own brand but the quality is good. Even though it's not a big store they manage to carry a good selection of product. They have just about anything you would need. Normally you need a quarter for a shopping cart but today there was no charge. You get your quarter back when you return the cart.
