This place disappointed me. When I booked a Mother's Day reservation here, I had no expectations that it would be a special brunch or anything like that but it's honestly sad how little they tried. We came as one of the first tables seated for lunch, an 11:45am reservation and weren't seated until after 12:10pm. From there, we were basically ignored by all wait staff for about 15mins, I don't blame them as clearly they are understaffed but this really goes against the "Disney experience" I remember as a kid. COVID has definitely done a number on some of the experiences you've come to expect will be borderline perfect just because it's Disney. For the food: the menu felt limited but none of us disliked the food we ordered. It's standard American fare with a new england theme. Nothing to write home about. Our waiter in the end turned out to be a pretty fun guy after he opened up to our table. That's why I'm giving this place 3 stars. We visited for breakfast and the food was actually very good, but we were extremely disappointed in the service. Our server seemed to have tables in two different sections of the restaurant and was not very present. It took a long time to even be acknowledged after we were seated. Food then took a long time to be delivered. As our server was almost at our table, she realized her own mistake, that she had brought the blueberry-bacon pancakes instead of the French toast. She delivered my waffles, but my fiancé had to wait even longer for his French toast. We received a cursory apology, but nothing further. We had an absolutely excellent time at ale and compass!! We asked to be seated at the bar where both Mark and Logan were tending to the Hearth Oven. They made our time so great! Mark told us about the sauce on the Roasted Oyster appetizer which was so so good! (We want to try to make it at home) Logan was also so fun and explained all of the things he was making. We are very into food and being welcomed by these two chefs definitely brought extra magic to our stay. The ale and compass also has a great selection of beers - much better than elsewhere at Disney so we had fun trying a few different ones. The Parker house rolls coming out of the kitchen looked like they were straight from a magazine literally had my mouth watering. The oyster appetizer is to die for and I really enjoyed my burger! We came here for dinner one night with a reservation. Arrived on time and were seated right away. The waiter was very friendly and explained what we can order with the Disney dining plan. The restaurant is inside the yacht club so it feels and looks upscale compared to other Disney restaurants. We ordered our drinks, spicy pomegranate margarita, maple old fashion and manhattan. We ordered a few of the coastal clam bake which consisted of whole Maine lobster, clams, corn and tomatoes. We also got the 16 oz T-bone steak and pan seared trout with broccoli rabe. The lobsters were over cooked and chewy. The corn and potatoes had no seasoning it seemed like. I know this is Disney so it's still technically "park" food. But if you are charging $40 for this dish, it should at least taste decent. Drink, entree and dessert for one will set you back $70. A table of 7 means almost $500 plus tax and tips. The deserts were just ok as well. Nothing to rave about. Overall an ok meal. I do like the location though, took a nice stroll outside by the water after our meal. Wow, Ale and Compass do it right. Their vegan burger is made with the beyond meat patty and has vegan bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mushrooms. It is DELICIOUS. The best burger I may have ever eaten. They put it on delicious crusty bread instead of a bun and it's just right. It also comes with fries so what more could you want? I am super conflicted on this review. This is definitely one of the nicer restaurants you can find on property...but in all honesty, I expected more. While the service staff is competent, the overall experience left much to desire. I expected more seafood with my dish. The few clams I did get were tiny and shriveled. I will say, the shrimp were good. However, I think my biggest complaint is that what would have made this a phenomenal experience didn't happen based on a flaw in the system. Specifically, the clam bake dish can come with a whole Maine lobster...at a price...but you can't get it with the dining plan...even if you are willing to pay for it. Let me say that again...despite my willingness to pay the market price for the lobster, on top of of our dining plan...I was told this was not possible. You're better than that Disney. They can find a way to squeeze money out of every experience...except here. Further, the dessert brought out for the kids...not what we ordered, and no one really seemed to care. Finally, would it kill you to serve some damn bread with your meals..? I have all this delicious garlic butter sauce, and nothing to enjoy it with. Ultimately, this is not a bad place. Three stars are, sadly, the "average " for today's visit. Our server, D, was awful. After we all requested water when we ordered our meals, we had to flag her down 10 minutes later to ask for the water. I had to get her attention again, during my meal, for a water refill. The Ale and Compass located inside of the Yacht Club at Disney's boardwalk had a beautiful ambiance but the food was u underwhelming. For such a pricey restaurant I was suprimes that there was no bread and butter provided. I ordered the seafood chowder which was tasty but not worth the price at all. We really enjoyed this place. I have only one complaint and I'll say it up front: service was slow. It took 20 minutes for our first round of cocktails to come out. Appetizers were even served before the drinks. Our server, Leah, was super sweet but asked if we wanted another drink after they'd been empty for 15 mins and our plates were being cleared. Not a great sales technique since we were basically just waiting for a check at that point. Ok let's talk food. We had two appetizers: the gnocchi and the rock shrimp. Both were yummy. Shrimp was warm and the breading was perfect. Gnocchi seemed a little too soft for my liking but had good flavor. Entrees: I had the short rib with corn risotto. GET IT. Trust me. Get it. I asked for more reduction on the side and it was amazzzzzziiinnnggg. My husband had the fish special which he enjoyed (I don't remember what it was). My family ate breakfast here today, I ordered the crab eggs Benedict, my husband ordered the eggs your way and my son ordered the chocolate waffles. Reservations are hard to come by right now as a number of restaurants at Disney are still closed, so we ate here twice during our stay. In normal times I wouldn't have thought to eat here as we're usually eating at places like Cape May, but we had such a great experience the first night we came back again before we left for home. The parker rolls are indeed delicious and you end up eating way too many of them, but you're on vacation so what the heck. I had a burger one night and a steak the other night, and both times they were cooked as-ordered (medium rare) and delicious. Sort of an average experience. It felt fake to me and hearing our server give the same lines to other tables just led to a feeling of inauthenticity. We had the catch of the day (delicious) chicken pasta (tasted frozen, not good), lemon chicken (just ok) and two kids meals: steak and macaroni. The kids meals are nicely presented but my kids hated the broccolini. Too hard for kids to eat. The dessert was an ice cream macaroon that my son rejected. the rolls were good but for $13 should have at least been enough in quantity for 6 people st the table (you get 5). I would rate 1, 4, 5 =) When we were taken to our table we were shown the dessert options on the way to the table and I would like to note it was 11am. We arrived at our "table" and there were people there. The host said, "the table they told me to seat you at this table and there are already people there." Then he left us standing next to tables that were full. We basically just annoyed these people that were eating their breakfast. We stood there for about 5 min, which seems like a lifetime when there are SIX girls standing in the middle of a restaurant next to tables of families that were eating... really? So some waitress came over and moved two tables together and sat us down. Competency win! When the host came back over with menus, we asked if the breakfast buffet was still available and he said, "I don't know, what time is it?" REALLY? REALLY? I would like to stop reviewing him or I may throw my computer out the window. So then we waited about an hour for a server. Our server, Miguel was pretty good. Very nice. The food was also pretty good. I went with a burger and fries and it was on point. I did ask for medium though and it came out medium well. It was still yummy. It was HUGE too! What REALLY bothered me about the entire experience is when you receive your check there is a card on the left side of the receipt holder explains how there are always people inquiring about the gratuity. It states that gratuity IS NOT INCLUDED on the check or total. However, on the receipt it states that there was 18% automatically included and on the menu it also states that there would be gratuity added for parties of 6 or more. HOLY SNEAKY!!! So then I inquired about why that card was placed in ALL 6 of our receipt holders and their response? Those cards are in every holder. Well they shouldn't be! And you have to go to the receipt UNDER the one on top (cause they give you 4 receipts) to see the gratuity line before your total. SNEEEEEEEEAKY!!!!! We made reservations for breakfast during our weekend stay at The Yacht Club. I was a bit nervous after reading some of the less than average reviews and no staff members being able to tell me the accommodations that could be made for a vegan date ahead of time. I was pleasantly surprised by my meal. Service was average. Not necessarily Disney magical, but not bad either. The only item for vegans that is available are the Mickey Waffles and fruit, but my date was satisfied with that. I ordered the smoked salmon bagel and it was gooooood. The bagel came out with a large portion of smoked salmon (displayed so nicely!) with all of the fixings. It was nice to be able to set up my bagel exactly how I wanted it. I thought the value for the food that was received was pretty decent. I would return if staying at The Yacht Club again due to the convenience, but wouldn't make a special trip. read more

Boyfriend and I popped in here for lunch yesterday, and yeah I don't think we will be doing that again. We arrived around noon and the place was largely empty, maybe 10 tables with people at them. We were promptly seated. I took a quick glance at the menu and saw A LOT of seafood, so I asked for a kids menu. I don't eat seafood and since I don't it would seem my choices for lunch were limited to a sliced beef sandwich, a cheese burger, or a grilled chicken sandwich, none of which sounded great. We started with cocktails. He had a Mai Tai, which was shockingly delicious. I don't usually like Mai Tais. I had a blue margarita. It was ok, but they didn't line the rim with salt and this margarita desperately needed that. Boyfriend ordered a salad with scallops and he really enjoyed it, but there were these strange peppers in it that he didn't really care for. I ordered the kids grilled steak. My steak arrived and my fries were cold and flat. They tasted like they had been sitting out for quite sometime so I sent them back. I'm really glad I did because the new ones our server brought out were fresh, hot, and delicious. They were most definitely the best part of my meal. My steak was soooo overcooked. I know it was a kids steak, but I am not a child so they could've asked me how I wanted it cooked. They didn't and it was well done, very tough. The worst part of it was it had zero flavor. Again, I know it a kids steak, but have you heard of salt and pepper at least? Finally, my kids meal came with a choice of dessert. I could have an ice cream sundae, cupcake push pop, or yogurt push pop. I asked about the sundae, but it was vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup. I told the waitress I don't really care for chocolate so I'll take the cupcake push pop. She then arrived with a chocolate cupcake push pop. I looked at her and said, "Oh, it's chocolate?" She was like, yeah it changes every day, we never know what we'll have. So I reminded her that I don't eat chocolate, which is why I didn't order the sundae. She went back to get me the yogurt push pop, but returned with a vanilla cupcake push pop. Anyway, the whole concept of a cupcake push pop seems silly and like a waste of plastic to me, but no doubt kids like the idea. The cupcake was pretty solid, but not enough to save this meal. Our service was fine, but not outstanding. Our server disappeared for a significant period of time after our food was brought. We had to get another server to bring new fries and A-1 to help make my steak edible. So next time you are at the Yacht Club and hungry, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

Had breakfast one morning while staying at the resort. Lots of interesting options on the menu. Service was good and it was nice to have a real restaurant that can adjust preparation to meet needs. It is tough for me to see such poor reviews for this place when this has always been a favorite. Yes, the menu is not that exciting but I think the interior is very nice and welcoming, and the customer service is phenomenal. I have dined here a few times and always had a pleasant time. This time around I went on my birthday to make it extra special. I had the New York strip which was cooked exactly how I wanted it, and my fiance had a fish that was outstanding. Flavor is great and the meal was timed perfectly - not too rushed but came right when I was feeling hungry. We also had a wonder shrimp appetizer that came with a few dipping sauces that were extremely tasty. The customer service is what earns this place the 4th star for me. I was running about 20-25 minutes late because I was not responsible enough to time my resort bus trip to get there on time. And Disney has the phone system on LOCK DOWN so do not even think of calling the restaurants directly to give them a heads up you're the a-hole running late. ANYWAY they could care less I was running a little behind and seated me right away. My fiance had put a drink request in that the bartender said they could make better, but somehow got both versions of the drink (making the one drink free!). And because I made sure Disney knew it was my birthday week my waitress was very thoughtful and brought me out a second dessert with champagne for my fiance and I. Best thing I can say about this place is Disney has not made it a 2-table service instead of 1-table service point yet, so go before they make it more expensive! read more

We had a lovely Christmas Day buffet brunch at Captain's Grille and enjoyed seeing the Disney's Yacht Club. The grounds and the main building were beautifully decorated for Christmas - including a giant model train display that we watched while waiting for our table. Our table was ready in just a few minutes, and we were seated in a nice half booth, half chairs table in a quieter corner of the restaurant. Our server was very prompt, and took our drink orders. After that, we were off to the buffet. There were tons of options - fruit, yogurt, granola, salads, waffles in the shape of Mickey, bacon, sausages, eggs benedict, pancakes, a meat person who had both ham and turkey. The buffet also had all the fixings for a turkey dinner. There were tons of different breads and a soup option as well. There were two separate dessert bars with super cute looking desserts. By the time we all got back to the table with our first plates, our waitress had already brought our drinks - great service. We pretty much enjoyed everything. I think the only minor complaint I had was that the ham I received from the meat station was a bit dry. Although it was a bit spendy for the brunch, we're glad that we got to experience the Yacht Club, as well as Captain's Grille. For my entree, I had the ale & compass salad with shrimp which was fine, and there was actually a solid portion of shrimp on it. A couple of other dishes our group ordered were the lobster roll, the shrimp, and the steak frites. The portions overall seemed pretty small, but everyone seemed satisfied with their food. Seated 15 minutes after our reservation...not sure why as there were many empty tables and for Disney it wasn't busy. Asked if there were specials, never answered us. Ordered wine and was told the wine was okay. Well the wine is better than okay..my best friend is the wine maker and it's won awards. Ordered the pot pie - large and not much seafood inside. Ordered the clam bake with half a lobster add on. Lobster tail was small and had two bites. The rest of seafood was good. Server never came to ask if we needed drink refills. Either she was too busy or she didn't care. Ordered pudding trio for dessert - chocolate and blackberry were good - butterscotch was burnt. This is an avg score: 1 Star for the burger, 5 stars for the fish and chips. Had lunch here for the first time since the refurb a few years ago. This place reminds me of a mini Flying Fish on the inside which is good. Modern, somewhat dim lighting, partially open kitchen, and a gateway to a separate bar. Didn't have a reservation and we showed up at 1:54 when the place closes at 2:00 but we were still able to be seated which was appreciated. I ordered the Bacon and Vermont Cheddar burger medium rare and what I got 25 min later was a bacon and Vermont cheddar burger WELL DONE. I'm the type of person who hates when something isn't cooked to specification, but if you don't mind your burger dried out with a strong charcoal flavor you'll be just fine here. I informed our waitress politely and it was taken off the bill with about 90% of the burger staying on the dish. We had plans soon thereafter so I didn't want to wait another 25 minutes for another burger. On a side note, this was the third issue I had with a burger at Disney in 2 days. Same story. So I'm not sure if the chefs don't know what medium rare is, or if they think you're so intoxicated with pixie dust you won't send the food back. Fish and Chips were the complete opposite. These were mind blowing fish n chips (mainly the fish). I couldn't believe it after how bad the burger was. Two large pieces of I think cod fried perfectly. Batter was thin and crisp, fish was moist and clean tasting. The lemon-caper tartar sauce was perfect. No extra lemon was needed. It was supposed to come with salt and vinegar chips but I guess they took the old school initiative and we ended up with fries which were pretty good. I was only at the Disney Resort for two full days and I enjoyed this place so much that I ate lunch here twice. I even got my friends to come back with me the second day even though they had a free lunch in store for them. First off, I want you to know that the prices for food here were way more reasonable that at the hotel I was staying at across the lagoon. And the food was relatively good. The fish and chips were fresh and hot and reminded me of what I had at the English pub in Epcot last year. And for $15, I thought that was a steal! The next day, I had clam linguini which I thought was tasty and pretty filling. The lobster sliders weren't bad either. The service was very attentive and accomodating. My friends were in a hurry to get back to their conference the second day I dined here and there was no long wait for anything and they had time to spare getting back. I would definitely recommend this place for lunch! I wish I had known about it last year when I had two meals at Cat Cora's Kouzzina which doesn't hold a candle to this place. I don't consider the Disney resort a food mecca by any means; I was just looking for something fairly fresh and not too fattening, and I found it here. read more

Looking for a place to eat lunch on Disney property without a dinner reservation? This is the spot. I've eaten here twice in recent weeks, and both times the restaurant has been completely empty. Maybe its the season, maybe there weren't conventions in-house. . .who knows? The food is always fresh, and the servers are always kind. On my most recent visit I had the Caprese Sandwich, which was delightful and refreshing - - sweet tomatoes paired with cold mozzarella atop decadent foccocia bread. Today was not their day. We were seated 35 minutes after our reservation time. We went to the buffet and everything was either empty or dried out. No one told us the last setting for brunch was 11am until after sitting for 45 minutes. I ordered the protein bowl with poached eggs. They came out hard. When I asked that they be redone I was asked if I could just have a fried eggs because it was easier for them. Management staff was scarce and had no sense of urgency when we did see them. Tables sat unbussed for no less than 40 minutes until breakfast closed. Step it up Disney, this is not what we expect from you service wise. This was NOT a magical experience. read more

My wife, daughter and I popped in here for breakfast on a Sunday morning without a reservation and were initially turned away. Looking on the Disney app, we saw an open reservation in 20 minutes. Go figure!? We returned with our reservation in hand and were promptly seated. The three of us all picked the buffet but one can also order a la carte entrées if desired. Your standard Disney breakfast buffet here sans the characters. I especially enjoyed the waffles and unlimited bacon. Service was attentive but it took a bit for us to get the check probably because of our corner table location. read more

It isn't a good sole-standing dish - would be better as a side or as a salad before a main dis 16 oz. T-bone: exceptionally average. Protein bowl: very small portion, nothing to write home about, but the vegan sausage was pretty good! Scrod: average, if anything. Required a bit more flavor. Four cheese ravioli: incredible, will write home about it. It was the perfect mixture of sweet and salty.
