This was our first time at Ale & Compass. We wanted to try some new places for dinner when we went to Walt Disney World this year. I must say that this restaurant was a little bit too fancy for my taste. However the food and service did not disappoint. We started off with the oven roasted meatballs. They were seasoned just right and the sauce was very tasty. Regarding my main course, I got the Cabernet braised short ribs. The short ribs fell right off the bone. The ribs were very tender and tasty as well. The roasted vegetable mash was not like anything I have ever tasted before. It was very good and I would eat it again. All four of us (even my super picky kids) had to restrain ourselves from licking our plates! From the wine and beer (Rekorderlig is quite possibly the tastiest beer on earth!) to the entree we were in Heaven! Even the butter for the bread was enhanced to provide maximum enjoyment! The waitstaff is super friendly and the manager came over and was even joking and laughing with us. Even brought my husband a fresh drink when he noticed it was low. Some may say its a bit pricey, but I say its worth every penny and then some. I got the crab legs and they were only slightly more expensive than what you would get at Joe's Crab Shack, but they were worlds better! I HIGHLY recommend trying this place out! So, we went to Ale & Compass and asked to be seated in a secluded section. Not only did they accommodate us, but made sure every thing I ate had no cross-contamination. The food was fantastic! During a long-weekend stay at the Yacht Club, we opted for breakfast here twice. (We aren't character-breakfast people, but we are fans of full-service breakfast.) Sometimes, location trumps everything else. Given that there's a big convention center attached this hotel, they offer a breakfast buffet (so attendees can be as rushed or as leisurely as they wish). I just can't eat enough of "all-you-can-eat" to ever feel like I've gotten my money's worth, so I tend to go a la carte instead. I'm glad I did. I got to try two winners from the breakfast menu: citrus-scented French toast (challah with lavender-infused strawberry compote and white chocolate ganache), and dark chocolate waffles (with a dried-cherry compote and espresso-mascarpone cream). Both were seriously over-indulgent, and I could barely finish (though with chocolate involved on both, I had no choice but to lick the plate clean.) Would I come here for breakfast if I weren't staying here? Not unless it were a loved one's specific request. But were I staying at the hotel, it's an acceptable option that's easy to do and gets you started on the day. read more

Had lunch and it was just okay. The burger itself didnt have much flavor. The roll service was a nice touch. Have to say I am a fan of the old menu as this has just been redone. Sad to say this was my first bad Disney dining experience. We were early for our reservation and they seated us no problem since the place was half empty. Theming in the restaurant is totally lacking in comparison to other restaurants and in the words of my fiancé the waitresses were dressed like pilgrims. Our waitress was nice but nothing special, we had to ask her to tell us what the specials are. As for food the clam chowder was good and I'm from New England so I hold my standards high. After that it was all downhill... I ordered the short ribs and when I placed my order the waitress assured me I made a great choice. There were 5 of us and everyone's food came out but mine so we sat and waited for almost 10 mins before my plate came out finally. Waitress comes insists on putting it down because it's so hot so I let her. I take my fork and go to eat a piece and the meat is hard! Turns out my plate wasn't so hot because my short rib was frozen!!! On top of that my fiancé's chicken was tough as rubber and the NY strips were extremely tough as well. We were very disappointed!! The waitress removed the chicken and short ribs from the bill which was nice and offered us new meals but after the first ones we didn't want any food out of that kitchen! (We later stuffed our faces with delicious ice cream sundaes at Beaches n' Cream) I would not recommend this restaurant at all considering the location it needs an overhaul! The decor of this restaurant is very nice. Seems like one of Disney's more upscale locations. However, a musty/dirty carpet oder detracted a bit. Service was excellent and the best part of the experience - super friendly, helpful and attentive. Appetizers - truffle fries were delicious and the bbq cauliflower was OK. Of the 4 of us, only one truly enjoyed their main meal. That said, the remaining 3 all had the same dish, vegan protein bowl, and were disappointed. The broccolini I lacked flavor, the sweet potato was undercooked / hard, the quinoa was very flavorful but the sauce on the sausage was a little bland as well. I'm super happy to see vegan options on the menu but the lackluster taste overall will keep us from coming back for more. read more

While I am a total foodie, this chef tries too hard to come up with odd combinations and overly complex preparations for B, L, and D. We have been for dinner but forgot to give a review. It was good not great. Seems to miss a little here and there. Plus the lighting in the evening is so bright you feel like you are being interrogated. I would give dinner another try. We went for breakfast july 4th and they changed the menu from what we saw on the Disney app. The entrees we had planned on ordering were sadly gone. They sounded unique and yummy so we had to re plan on the fly. In addition to menu changes they added a buffet of sorts where you pick an entree and visit the "basic" buffet (fruit, pastries, charcuterie, smoked salmon, biscuits and gravy, and oatmeal) I say basic because there is nothing that is entree-like, more like add ons or sides. Anyways the price is $24 including coffee soft drink or juice. I ordered the open face skirt steak sandwich which would have been $19 so for a few $ more did the buffet. Definitely got money's worth. Entree was good but the dressing on the greens was extremely strong. Too much so for a breakfast item. Hubby got the salted caramel apple french toast and buffet. He said the entree was ok not great. So again we will give breakfast another try as it wasn't terrible. 3 stars until our next visit. read more

We went for the first time here and was very good and I hope we get to do dinner in the near future and hope that it is just as great. I ate lunch at the Captain's Grille in the Yacht Club with my family. It was EMPTY...super quiet, and a great meal. The lobster sliders my mom and sister got looked awesome, though I opted for the fish and chips, which I loved. The servers were friendly, but as some other Yelpers have commented, the service was a little slow...but we were OK with a leisurely meal. I would definitely eat here again. read more

We enjoyed our dinner at Ale & Compass tonight. I had the cab sav. braised beef short rib and it was quite good and my spouse had the seafood pie. We also split the blue cheese salad and enjoyed the parker house rolls with bacon jam, cheese or citrus butter. Everything was really good and well presented. Our waiter was professional with just the right amount of attention. We have found the casual dining places at deluxe hotels are always pleasant surprises (for a disney restaurant) and we tend to always have delicious and well-prepared meals. read more

We came to the lounge next to the restaurant (same name) because the restaurant was only taking reservations at the time. The lounge is self seating. We sat ourselves and waited approximately 15-20 minutes before leaving because we weren't even offered water. Pretty disappointing given that we are paying a hefty price to stay at the Yacht Club. read more

Loved this restaurant. Went here for the first time after a major renovation. More sophisticated and really well done. The food was great! Ale and Compass is the tiny lounge area adjacent to the concierge desk at Disney's Yacht Club. In fact, it is so small that I completely forgot to include it in my "Drink around the World: Boardwalk Edition" list until now. But yes, it is there, and when it is open its a fun place to grab a cocktail. Because of the size it's hours are very limited. Nevertheless, since it is located directly inside the lobby area at the resort, it can be a lot of fun to visit, take in the atmosphere of the hotel, and people-watch. read more

This restaurant has become one of our family favorites. We've only had dinner here, so I can't pass judgement on the breakfast offerings. We started off with two amazing appetizers. The buttermilk fried rock shrimp were so good we all fought over them and wound up ordering another batch! We also got the house-made gnocchi. The pears and truffle butter added a really unique flavor to the delicate gnocchi. As far as entrees go, you only need to know two words - short ribs. The cabernet braised short ribs were so tender and flavorful that no knife was needed. The corn risotto had just the right amount of sweetness, and was a great accompaniment to the meat. I would have loved some kind of a green vegetable - but that's probably just me. We all got the same meal except one person who got the pasta - which thankfully had the short ribs in it! The server was attentive and kept our glasses full and the table cleared of used dishes. We'll definitely return - as long as the short ribs stay on the menu!! read more

I didn't complain when we were seated in the back room with a view of the unattractive EXIT door. But when the CO2 detector begins to alarm during the meal for not a few minutes, but literally 20 minutes or more, you would think the manager would at least acknowledge it. My son kept asking if it was safe or if we should evacuate. The waiter said it happens all the time and there is nothing to worry about. It's just difficult to shut down. BTW the bread rolls, think of the old KFC buns, were $13 bc it included some spreadable cheese and chutney. That seemed a bit much. Perhaps it was early (7:35am breakfast reservation) or perhaps it's COVID fatigue, but servers were less than friendly, rather a bit resigned. Food arrived lukewarm and desperately needed salt. I had failed to order salt & pepper with the food, and had to get up and locate a server while our lukewarm food got even cooler. After a full day in the jam packed parks (Animal Kingdom, Epcot & Hollywood Studios) I couldn't wait to find a relaxing space distanced from the crowds with a little peace and quite. Knowing the Ale & Compass just opened from a complete refurbishment, I knew it was where I was headed. We started at the lounge with my favorite go to beverage: the Bloody Mary. Having them everywhere within the Disney grounds, this one ranked number one for sure. It had a very thick, sugared bacon strip and a good sized, cold water lobster claw. The mix was delicious, temperature chilled to perfection and the accoutrements were better than any other. The mixologist was a very pleasant woman by the name of Jacqui and she truly represents the brand. We headed into the restaurant for some light dining of a great salad and an appetizer of lightly broiled goat cheese with a bit of pumpkin seeds for added flavor enhancement. Wow. The customer service attendant was a cheerful woman by the name of Susie and like Jacqui, made the experience unforgettable. My suggestion is a must visit. read more

I made a reservation and had lunch here on the Disney dining plan, and what a fail. First of all, reservation unnecessary. There was almost no one there. Secondly, we were ignored and condescended to by one of the staff members and I was thoroughly unimpressed. Somehow we interacted with two individuals, and the other was nicer. I'm really not sure anymore what I ate. I know my food was fine, not amazing, but decent and likely consisted of seafood. My boyfriend, on the other hand, who does not eat seafood, had really pathetic looking plates. His food was definitely subpar. Not worth it. read more

I ate here with a large group (14). I was underwhelmed with my experience. First, the waiter started off ok but then it was downhill. I think because of our large group and the auto gratuity he didn't try very hard. 3 people's entrees did not come how they ordered them and 2 others had parts of their meals not come at all until they asked where something was. Not to mention our drinks took a long time to be refilled. For a seafood restaurant there was only one fish on the menu - the market fish. The rest was shellfish or meat. For me, a plant-based mostly vegan, my only option was the vegetarian inspiration requesting the butter sauce be left off. My $15 meal consisted of 5 small butternut squash raviolis and TONS of dried cranberries. The raviolis were good, but it was seriously 5 bites. The waiter did say it was small, so I started with a Farmer's Market Salad without cheese. The champagne vinaigrette was light and complemented the bitterness of the arugula well. Overall I would not recommend this restaurant, neither for the food nor the service. It did accommodate a large large group and is convenient if you're staying at the yacht club. read more

We enjoyed the food here very much! The atmosphere is wonderful and relaxing. We enjoyed the cauliflower appetizer and the meatballs appetizer. The meatballs and sauce were tremendous. I enjoyed the salmon kale salad. It was so fresh and the salmon was cooked perfectly. My daughter enjoyed the fish and chips with the homemade vinegar chips. The only drawback was the service. We had eaten here on July 31st. When we arrived about 5 minutes early we were told that they were run off their feet busy and would have to come back at our reservation time. Well we gave it 15 minutes and the hostess actually gave me a look, rolled her eyes and then huffed that I had come back to be seated. We went back out to wait in the lobby and were called to be seated about 10 minutes later. Funny thing, the restaurant was empty. There were only a few tables in use and quite a lot of empty tables. We were seated off in a corner large enough for our party of 6. Our waitress was very friendly and had traded pins with my niece. We had chosen this restaurant for their clam bake offering which was to include lobster. When we received our menus, this had changed. To have the lobster you had to pay an additional $20. The description was littleneck clams, shrimp, chorizo, potatoes and corn in a broth. Well when I received it the contents were 4 little itty bitty clams, 4 med shrimp and 2 potatoes and 2 pieces of corn on the cob in a very bland broth which contained what tasted like ground bacon more than a spicy chorizo. When I asked for salt, pepper and chili flakes it seemed as I was bothering the waitress. It took her more than 10 minutes to return. It wouldn't have been so bad if they gave you some bread to sop up the sauce and made the meal a bit more filling. All in all, this looked more like an appetizer and some if the appetizers looked like meals. The best part of this dining experience was the view. You are looking out onto the lake and lighthouse. Other than that, I definitely would not go out of my way to eat here again. read more

Came to Ale and Compass on 10/19 for dinner. We arrived about 20 minutes early and were seated right away with no issue. Our server Landon, was extremely sweet and knowledgeable. Started with the Parker House rolls which were delicious (Landon brought out 3 extra rolls when he saw how much we were enjoying them). My mother ordered the Brick Chicken and said it was one of the best chicken dishes she has ever had. My father ordered the Seafood Pot Pie and enjoyed it so much he was scraping the bowl at the end. I ordered the Coastal Clambake which was delicious but could have used a few more pieces of everything (especially the Chorizo). The only major miss was the clams in the Clambake. Out of 6 clams, 3 were not opened. We also ordered a side of Lobster Mac & Cheese which was good but probably would skip next time. Overall, this restaurant is good & we will return our next trip. read more

I am a Disney Vacation Club member and have made over 60 trips to Disney in my life. That being said, I have high expectations for the sit down restaurant services here. Tonight my party of 9 had a reservation for the Captain's Grille at the Yacht Club - out first (and most likely last) meal here. For starters, we were extremely disappointed by the staff's inability to accommodate special dietary requests. They weren't complicated requests by any means - swapping out the kids portion of chicken noodle soup for clam chowder. That requests was denied. Like many diners here, we are on the dining plan and most restaurants will gladly allow us to swap out our included dessert option for a salad, soup, or appetizer. Our request was denied. After another attempt, We were finally told we could only exchange our dessert option (valued between $5 and $8) for a $2.19 kids side salad. Truth be told, this has been the only restaurant on Disney property that allowed no dietary accommodations. In fact, we had to practically beg to get my nephew apple slices (which were a part of another dish) for dessert. We also had to request salt and pepper shakers 3 times before we received them. A child's hamburger meal showed up after all adult meals had arrived and been mostly eaten. An extra order of fries came - wait for it- with our after dinner coffee and dessert. To be fair, the crab cakes are decent and the steaks were cooked as ordered. Portions were small (which is unheard of in Disney) and the value just wasn't there. In short, while the server was apologetic she really didn't seem to be genuine. She was also slow on refills and items requested. A less than stellar experience is being generous. Based on these experiences, we will probably never return. read more

Great experience at the Ale & Compass this weekend! Disney restaurants always do a good job with their allergen menus, and with multiple food allergies this is great for me. When I first got there I was a bit discouraged to see that there didn't seem to be much I could eat even from the allergy menu, but we asked to speak to the chef and Sergio came out to talk to us even before we were seated at our table. He answered our questions and wrote down our order exactly how we wanted it due to our dietary restrictions. He even brought it out to our table himself.
