I had just under two months to have a bridesmaid dress tailored with all sorts of issues: The shoulder straps were too long. The bust area was too wide. The waist and back were bulky and not formfitting. The dress was way too long -- and, my goodness, with three layers to address -- even with heels. Of course, the reason why there were all of these alteration needs to begin with is because I did not have an opportunity to actually visit the boutique to try on dresses. I did my best to measure all my features during a virtual consultation and hoped for the best. Best guesses were not good enough. Thanks COVID-19 pandemic. Thank goodness for Carla. She is patient, skilled and complementary. She will look to your best assets to amplify those, all the while making sure you are entirely comfortable. For semi-formal wear, I appreciated that comfort first was her philosophy. It was not merely about how I looked in the gown, she wanted to make sure I felt great in the gown. Tailor Love was recommended to me from the bridal boutique where I bought my wedding dress, Lovely Bride in San Diego. So glad they recommended this place for my wedding dress alterations. Carla did a wonderful job taking care of me and my wedding dress. From the initial consult, up until the final fitting. She wanted to make sure my needs and comfort in the dress were met. My mom and sister came with me to all my appointments and Carla was so kind to listen and fulfill their requests. She even went above and beyond to ensure I had a good experience; one of my appointments fell during the weekend of PRIDE so she offered to reschedule my appointment because she knew parking was most likely going to be non-existent. She was so sweet to show me all the bustle options my wedding dress could provide. The bustle was super easy to set up. Unfortunately I was not able to get a good photo of the bustle on the wedding day. I bought an off-the-rack dress from Reformation that was super simple but just not fitting quite right. I was super nervous to get it tailored and didn't want to take it to just anyone. I brought it in to a couple places and got a few quotes and by far, got the best vibe from Carla at Tailor Love. As soon as I met with her I was put to ease by her calm demeanor and expertise - I could tell she saw my vision and was going to make it happen. Over the course of 4-5 months I had several fittings and every time we tweaked little things here and there, and ultimately my dress turned out absolutely perfect. Carla never hesitated to give me her honest input and never ever lost patience with me and my perfectionism! She was responsive via text when I had questions or needed to change something between appointments. Overall, the alterations we made included hemming the dress, taking in sides, changing the straps from an X to V shape, adding in bra cups and adding an optional clasp to make the plunge more modest. The cost was incredibly, surprisingly reasonable for all of the time and effort she put in and she didn't nickel-and-dime me for small tweaks here and there (ie if the sides or chest had to be taken in a second time). Her shop is also centrally located and although it's a busy area of San Diego I never ever struggled to find parking. Using the Best to make sure you the customer can take off your shoes and be fitted and the floor is that clean. And the sidewalk is clean for customers, the other businesses apparently don't care. Carla is absolutely wonderful! We decided to get married less than 6 months after getting engaged so I received my wedding dress only 3 months before the wedding. The bridal salon recommended Tailor Love so I called and Carla said that if I could come in that week for my first fitting she could get it done in time. As soon as I put on the dress she knew exactly what alterations to make (shorten straps, take in the waist, hem the bottom). She showed me three different bustle options to choose from. We had two more fittings after that (one to make sure her alterations were correct before she added the bustle and silicone pads under the straps to make them more comfortable and prevent slippage, and one final fitting to make sure all was good before I took it home). I had the most amazing experience having my wedding dress altered at Tailor Love! I was recommended to her from my bridal dress shop as she has worked on many dresses from the same designer (Made With Love) in the past. Every single alterations session that I had was wonderful! She was so comforting and kind, and really listened to my needs/wants. I was really nervous going in for alterations since the dress has so much intricate detail, but she kept the integrity of the lace and every small detail perfectly while altering it to fit me! She is really a genius in terms of problem-solving - I didn't like the color of the included bra cups so she changed these out for me, and I also didn't like how much the bra cups were showing underneath the lace, so she moved some lace around in this area to better hide the cups and the results were exactly what I was hoping for! She offered me many different bustle options and walked me through each one (along with sending me pictures after the appointment!) and she really created the most beautiful bustle style that I had never seen before! She also had me record a detailed video of how to put the train into the bustle so that my maid of honor would have a video to reference with step-by-step instructions for the wedding day. She also dealt with my anxiety dealing up to the wedding day LOL - after one alterations appointment, I started getting too into my head about if I had tightened the straps too much, and I texted her asking if we could settle somewhere in between instead, and she was so kind and understanding and did exactly as I wished.
