Alfaro's recently took down two trees - one large maple and one Xmas tree. They used a Crain positioned on my driveway because of power lines and the location of the tree - it was the safest option. Alfaro's Tree Experts are the kind of contractor that it is hard to write a review about. They, specifically Fidel, are so good at what they do that if you write the honest truth it will come accross more as a paid advertisement than a review of the company. That said, here is the truth, I have been working with them for about 6 months (I am a property manager) and they have changed what I thought to expect from a landscaping/tree contractor. I am a super fan of Alfaros. They have done my landscaping for years. Some of the thing they have done are cut down a tree that had roots wrapping around the water main, rebuilt a flower bed (brick) and planted flowers. I had Alfaros remove 2 trees as well as grind the stumps. The crew that came by were nice people and very professional. They had to bring a crane onto the property because of the shear size of the trees. Even though they used mats when driving the crane on the grass it still killed some of the grass but Alfaros came back a couple days later and planted new grass seed and the grass grew back pretty quickly. I don't know what kind of grass seed they use but I'm going to call it magic seed because of how quickly it grew back. Definitely better than any Scott's seed you buy at Home Depot! I used to use another tree company before calling Alfaros because they were reasonably priced but Alfaros big on my tree work actually came in $1,000 cheaper than the other company. The owner actually comes to look at the trees and give you a price and he's very knowledgeable and a really nice guy also. I'll definitely call them again if and when I need tree work. They showed up on time, and did a fantastic job on my 2 trees. One was really tall maple tree in the back yard and they shaped it nicely- just the way I wanted. The workers really listened to what I said and did exactly what I described. I got 4 estimates and while Alfaros wasn't the cheapest, they weren't the most expensive either. They were very careful with lowering the branches as they cut the tree into pieces without damaging my deck or fence. They cut both trees down one day and came back the next to complete stump grinding, with which they cut 6inches below the surface. We literally had the tallest and largest tree in the neighborhood... a Tulip Poplar... 150+ feet tall. With every storm, limbs would come down. We never had any real damage but with a tree that size, you never know. Alfaro's was in the neighborhood on another job and we requested an estimate. I found Alfaro's Tree Experts while searching for a tree cutter and ended up receiving several estimates. Alfaro's estimate was done in person where he left his write up on my front door and annotated the charges and work to be done to my satisfaction. After speaking with him on the phone and answering some last questions I felt comfortable enough to hire him. Alfaro's crew appeared soon after and cut down my tree, pulled out the stump and his crew finished off by digging into the ground and pulling out all the roots they could find. They cleared all the lower branches away from the houses (neighbors too), thinned out the tops, and elevated the trees. The quote had pictures with branches identified for removal. Fidel and his team did a remarkable job taking down a very large, very dead tulip poplar in a very difficult to reach position in our backyard. Though Alfaros was not the cheapest estimate we got I was impressed that Fidel quickly recognized the complexity of the job and suggested an alternative that would be both cost effective and safe (see the attached photo of the crane...). Once we booked, Fidel and his team were onsite within three days and finished the job in about 4 hours, including a very thorough and comprehensive cleanup of debris; as part of the cleanup they even took down a tree in a neighbor's yard that had been damaged a few weeks earlier by a limb that fell off our dead tree, and graciously agreed to cart away a few old limbs from another neighbor's tree when asked. A large branch fell on a Sunday (damaging a wood fence) and we had Alfaros estimate by noon on Monday and the HUGE (120 feet) tree was felled and the damaged fence repaired by Tuesday afternoon! I was thrilled with the quick service, the expert tree removal and overall experience. Getting to a place to put the crane required moving a fence, and it was put back, the yard cleaned up and the damaged wood fence replaced before the crew left. Everything went perfectly yesterday! If I need this type of service again, I will hire this company. Fidel Alfaro (owner) gave me a very reasonable price; so, I hired him on the evening of the estimate. I have hired tree companies through the years; so, I knew this price was good. Alfaro doesn't play games when he gives an estimate; he wants the business. He apparently knows that starting a price way too high won't get the customer's business; it creates distrust. Several years ago, a tree company gave me a verbal price that was twice as much as it should have been. I told that company that I wasn't going to pay such a ridiculous price; so, that company cut the price in half and put the price in writing. I had a similar experience with a painter. Maybe those companies think females are stupid or maybe all customers are stupid. When a company arrives at my home to give me an estimate, I now typically tell them immediately to not mess with me. I typically tell them to give me a reasonable price if they want my business. I told Fidel that I wanted someone on the job at all times who could speak English and that I wanted Fidel to be on the job at the beginning of the job. I have sometimes hired contractors in the past whereby the crew shows up and doesn't have a clue as to what they are supposed to do, or a crew shows up and not one person knows enough English to communicate with me. In summary, Fidel showed up with the crew and walked them through the project. The job included cutting down a dead 35-year-old Douglas Fir, several Leland Cypress shrubs, extensive trimming of two trees, trimming/shaping two shrubs, grinding the stumps of the Douglas Fir and the Leland Cypress shrubs, and cleaning out the gutters. Keep in mind that there may be some options regarding the shrub grinding. I never have the crews remove the mound that is created by shrub grinding; much of this mound came from underground. I will soak these mounds with water periodically, which helps the mounds settle back into the ground, while I do pick up larger chunks of wood periodically. However, it does take a long time for the mounds to settle; which option to chose is based upon how you plan to use that spot: eventually sowing grass seed of your choice or planting shrubs. In summary, the crew did a great job, and they removed and cleaned up everything outlined in the contract. Everything went smoothly, and I will definitely hire them again when I need tree service! A FINAL NOTE: The homeowner is the supervisor. If you hire a tree company (or hire any company), monitor the work in progress. A neighbor hired a tree company years ago, and her husband told me that the company didn't cut the tree the way his wife wanted it cut. I asked the husband where he and his wife were when the work was being done. He said he was at work and she was inside the house. You can't complain about any work if you stay parked away from the job. Supervise! Fortunately, the Alfaro crew didn't need much guidance; they knew what to do! read more
