I came here with my mom after doing some shopping. Parking on Colorado Blvd can be challenging though there is paid street parking theoretically available. We parked at a parking garage located on Fair Oaks (2 hrs for $1!). This location is small with room for a maximum of 6 people staying inside, seated, to eat/drink. Definitely a to-go spot. We came toward the evening and the barista who helped us was very kind and answered some questions we had about their size options and location information. Hot matcha latte w/ whole milk 4.5/5, this is a traditionally bitter matcha latte, if this is something not up your alley I would recommend adding sweetener (which was offered by our barista). I always like to try a place's matcha without sweetener first hence the 4.5 rating as I could tell they used high quality matcha in a good ratio of matcha : milk. Personally, I think this would be 5/5 if I did opt for a little sweetener next time around. read more

I was in the area to have lunch with some old coworkers and needed somewhere to wait for the Apple Store to open. Alfred's happened to be right across the street, so I thought I'd stop in and get some work done. This one is just as cute as the other locations. There aren't too many spots to work at but a bar top facing the street and a small bench on the side. Got lucky enough to get a seat at the bar to knock some emails out. Bonus points for music choice (Mandy Moore) and having a matchaga that doesn't automatically include sweetener. Will be stopping by again if I'm ever in the area! read more

Alfred is a great coffee spot in Old Town that has never failed to deliver. The cold brew is good and if you're a fan of nitro, you will not be disappointed. The flavor is bold and slightly fruity with perfectly infused nitrogen to give is a creamy smooth texture. I haven't tried any food yet but the menu looks good! Randomly stopped by when I was going to the Apple Store near by. It's a small shop with a few bar seats so you can work and outdoor seating along the alley but it's mostly a pick up and go shop. I've never been here but heard about it so I'm glad that it was along my walking route. I ended up ordering their iced vanilla latte with the cloud top, which also included some salt and cocoa powder sprinkled on top for a "tiramisu moment" which the barista mentioned. This isn't a fast coffee shop like Starbucks as they choose to craft their drink carefully. The drink was really good but I would expect it to be with the prices. I also got the feta and spinach pastry which was excellent- the croissant part was SO CRISPY but again it was pricey. Both workers were incredibly nice and the barista who took my order was super friendly and informative. Definitely stop by if you need a pick me up! This spot is so cute. It's very minimalist, more like a grab-your-coffee-and-go, so it's not ideal for hanging out and relaxing. It's very clean and spotless, though. One of several amazing coffee spots on Colorado boulevard. Alfred is a chain that is really well known for their vanilla latte as well as a cream top drink. I love the decor and ambiance in this spot, as well as the fact that they have matcha options for all of their drinks in addition to coffee. Service is always super friendly but this place is extremely popular so I usually find myself waiting a little bit for a drink. I think you are able to order ahead if you can call or order online to try to mitigate that delay. Parking unfortunately is difficult as with everywhere else in Old Town. Pasadena and just gets harder as they add more and more great restaurants and businesses. I usually just bike the bullet and pay the dollar or so for a hour in one of the garages. My wife is always talking about this spot. We were walking around the historical Pasadena area and I thought we should check it out for ourselves. To see if this place is any good as people say. This is a bit of pretentious coffee shop. Not really my type of place. My wife opted to get a Mango Caramel Cold Brew. The description says, "When mango met caramel, the rest was magic. Mango Puree blended with out housemate vegan caramel sauce, topped with milk, cold brew coffee and cinnamon What we ordered: -Mango Caramel Cold Brew $6.50 It was alright. Came here during the week. It was pretty empty. This location is small and only has a couple of seats. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by the barista. Cold Brew was ASS, ngl. It reminded me of Lipton Iced Tea. The shop is very well kept, and the workers were very welcoming. Just wasn't a big fan of the coffee. I had no idea that Alfred coined the term, "But First Coffee." It's a phrase that many of us live by, myself included. Their signature logo is also very recognizable - the letter A with antlers on top. I don't know the significance of the antlers, but I do know that Molly Thorpe designed it. Alfred takes pride in serving innovative coffee and tea drinks. Their signature blends are roasted specifically by Stumptown Coffee Roasters, and their teas are sourced from all over the world. I stopped by the Old Town Pasadena location on my way to the gym for my morning pick me up. It was my first visit, and I wasn't sure what to order. I was about to ask for an Americano, but then I spotted the Signature Menu that listed: "World Famous Vanilla Latte." Of course I had to try it! I also noticed they had bottles of their custom vanilla bean syrup for sale as well. (Regular & Sugar Free $12.50) I requested mine with the sugar free vanilla syrup and almond milk. Amelia assisted me. She was nice and personable. She informed me that all their syrups are made in house including the lavender. The café is small & quaint with bar style seating against the window so you can people watch. There is a section with merchandise for sale in addition to grab & go items. I didn't have to wait long for my beverage, and I couldn't wait to try it. The first sip was lovely. The foam was smooth and creamy. I could taste the hint of vanilla with each sip and the brew was not bitter or overpowering. It was nicely balanced and light on the sweetness level. Next time I'll give the Lavender Latte a try. This is a combination of matcha and mushroom delight which is another form of coffee. I was a little underwhelmed. Not a prominent matcha taste and not creamy. I had this made iced with macadamia milk. I'll return for their signature beverage that placed them on the map. A vanilla latte. I'm sure this place has that greatness. I've have there matcha drinks a few times. I usually get the Alfred Boost. Today, i hit the matchaga and it was good. They use monk fruit sweetener and it impacts the taste. It was our first time visiting the coffee shop, which def gives off hip vibez. We ordered the following: Him: Rosy Black Iced Tea w/ simple syrup - 24oz $5.00 - classic, just a sweetened iced tea. Not that rosey, kind of simple, not too impressed. Me: Iced Matcha 24oz 2x Matcha w/ whole milk - $8.75 - So after discovering matcha in Kyoto, I've been obsessed with matcha. I got this drink cus I was craving matcha on the go but literally ...this drink is almost 10 bucks and I still thought the ones I make at home tasted better lolol. - For a matcha lover, you def need to add extra matcha. It's not bitter, I think the guy said it was ceremonial grade but I didn't catch the brand. - it's decent but not amazing. Just really pricey. Customer Service: The guy who helped us was patient when he answered our questions and gave us some recs. He was so kind and actually helped me add some extra syrup when I realized I preferred my matcha drink with a bit of sugar. So yeah... I'm not sure if I'll be back. I also ordered the greenie bagel where I thought the price a bit steep for. Interesting mix up a 'green' ingredients. The bagel itself was OK but I think may have tasted a bit better toasted. Oh yes, The Sunday @6pm "rush". Took a big L on this one. The fact that we had to stand in line for 8 minutes with only 2 people in front of was concerning. Once we saw that they were favoring mobile orders over live in person customers was a tragedy. Barista isn't even grinding and prepping. It's all on a push-button system. The order they prepared the coffee was incorrect. Pouring hot espresso over ice effectively turned my latte into an Americano. Alfred is the pretty much the new Starbucks. I've been wanting to try Alfred for forever and decided to stop in last weekend. The reviews seemed mixed in their vanilla latte so I opted for the iced strawberry matcha latte. I'm glad I did as I loved it. The matcha was delicious and creamy and the strawberry flavor was strong. The strawberry puree complimented the matcha well, and brought a really yummy extra flavor to it. It was definitely on the sweeter side which I personally prefer, but know some people like it earthier so just beware if you do t like sweeter matcha drinks! The vanilla latte was alright, as most people said it just tastes like a standard vanilla latte but costs quite a lot. It was yummy but can't say it was anything crazy. The prices are definitely a little steep but they made it quick and the quality was good. The location isn't ideal as it's only street parking or parking garages. Overall experience: Love the drink and smell walking in. The environment is very chill, and this place would be great to catch up with old friends and acquaintances. Food: The vanilla latte was very delicious. I usually don't have this drink in any coffee shop, but an employee from a neighboring business recommended this drink and I loved it. Service: The was fast and straight forward. Nothing extra- just good enough. Environment: The vibe is great with the Main Street vibes, but I love the mini alley way with chairs and tables. Really cute little cafe in Old Pasadena! We stopped in for a pre-dinner snack and caffeine fix. I saw the Iced Matchaga on the menu and was really intrigued. I'd never tried a mushroom drink before, so I was curious -- but to be honest, this just tasted like a normal matcha latte but was over $8 after substituting nondairy milk. It was a very good matcha though. We also got a blueberry coffee cake, which was surprisingly fire. Delicious streusel on top and very moist and a perfect little sweet treat to pair with the matcha. The inside of this coffee shop is very aesthetic and they have very cute branding! We sat outside in the little alley next to the shop where they had some tables, since space inside was really limited. Service was quick and workers were friendly. Would recommend checking this place out if you're looking for a caffeine fix or need a snack while walking around Old Pasadena! Stopped by for a quick coffee and was very impressed. The interior was so cute and really matched the ambiance of Old Town Pasadena. I ordered an Iced Lavender Latte and one of the workers said they were out of Lavender syrup. Graciously, they checked the back and were able to make one last drink with the syrup available.
