Have to agree with my fellow yelper, Sam B. on this one. I came here to try its World Famous Vanilla Latte, which supposedly got this place on the map, but I wasn't that impressed. Texture and taste were too thin (diluted). Pom-Hibisucus Lemonade was too bitter, tart, and herbal tasting. It didn't taste the way I expected. Only good drink was Maple Bourbon Cold Brew, but it's a limited time drink available for one week. It was a bit on the sweet side though. Barista was friendly but I hate the suggested tipping at this place. I know you can just do custom tip and put a different amount, but its default settings start at 18%, which is too high for a place that isn't a full service restaurant. read more

This location is very inconsistent, depending on which baristas are working. As a regular customer, I shouldn't have to explain how my usual drink is supposed to taste. I always order the Matchaga, and once again it was made incorrectly, this time with strawberry bits that clearly don't belong. When I brought it up, the barista insisted that's how it should be made, rather than listening and correcting it. An apology and simply remaking the drink properly would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, even the second attempt wasn't right. Disappointing experience, I won't be returning to this location despite living in Pasadena. read more

Recently I seem to be obsessed with Alfred Coffee. I decided to visit this location since I was in Old Town Pasadena doing some shopping. I ordered their iced chagaccino which had mushroom powder, espresso and I substituted regular milk with oat milk and added simple syrup. It was strong and delicious. I also got the plain bagel toasted with avocado and sprinkled with fresh parsley. The meal was satisfying. The decor for this location came off sleek and sophisticated. Service was good and better at this location in my opinion than the Venice location. My server was more friendly. I will be coming back for more! read more

Probably a combination of bad luck and bad choices, but we were not super happy with the drinks we got. Let me start with, the service was great, super nice folks, and the coffee shop was clean and cool (which was awesome because it was super hot outside). But the drinks.... we couldn't get them down. None of us made it past the half cup marker. I got the matchaga (matcha with chaga mushroom). I have had the chaga-cino before (coffee with chaga mushroom) and I liked it, but this combo wasn't as successful. Just tasted really odd. My son got the matcha latte and kind of liked it, but the sweetness wasn't there. My wife got the lavender latte that was supposed to be really popular, but that only made it 2 sips in before it had to go. Again, probably bad choices on our part since we usually like Alfred Coffee, going to have to try something else next time. read more

Went back for a second visit this morning because our first experience was awesome. This time, the service was excellent as it was last time--friendly, courteous, and customer oriented. It's a nice cafe and sunny mornings there make for a cheerful atmosphere with lots of people coming and going. Ordered two breakfast burritos, and they took about 15m to come up due to the volume of customers. Still not a big deal, and when we got them, they were hot but sub par compared to the time we came in a few months ago. Maybe it was the salsa that was off, or something else, but the consistency just wasn't there. For the prices they are charging, and the smaller, but adequate portions, I would hope for at least that. Maybe we'll go back once more to see if they were just having a bad day, but we'll see. Love this Alfred on Colorado, the retro decor, the cozy setting, feels very old school. And of course the people are great, super friendly, definitely a part of the town. The matcha is the best, and bagels pretty stellar too! Always a pit stop when I'm around. read more

Alfred's Coffee in Pasadena is always a win, but Brian seriously takes it to another level. Every time I come in, he's welcoming, upbeat, and genuinely cares about making sure your drink is perfect. Meh... not sure what the rave is all about. Maybe I ordered the wrong items? I asked them what they're known for, and they suggested the "world famous vanilla latte". So I got exactly that. But I couldn't quite figure out what is so "world famous" about this drink. Pretty bold statement for a mediocre drink. Maybe just "Pasadena famous"? I also ordered a cappuccino. It came lukewarm and nothing special. I've definitely had better. Maybe I just didn't have the right people making the drinks that night. Cafe is cute and welcoming. I enjoy the high top tables by the window so you can sip while people watching. Oddly they were still playing Christmas music in late-January. Kinda funny really. Terrible first experience and Im new to the neighborhood. Ordered a cold 12oz Lavender Machta and a cold 16oz Vanilla Latte and it took of what feels like a decade to get. Not because they took too long to make it, but because the cashier didn't hear my name correctly when placing the order. Not only did she not hear my name correctly but they were the most soft spoken person on the planet when taking the order. - My order ended up sitting at the pickup window for 10minutes until we worked with the pickup window to see about where my order was. Come to find out it was sitting out the whole time with the wrong name being called out. They didn't offer to remake the drinks and only said 'She heard the wrong name.' After drinking an inch of ice water at the top, the drinks weren't bad. - Def wont be coming back for a few months. Hoping they'll assign more competent people at the register. Be careful coming here. SHOUT or YELL your name to the cashier and know that if you wait less than five minutes, you won't regret not going to a franchise owned coffee shop. read more

Very important to start by saying the staff is super nice and helpful. They really are a great group. The place is clean and it's conveniently located next to everything in Old Town. I normally visit Alfred Pacific Palisades. Perhaps things are different at each location. I truly don't know how old my Alfred burrito was. It was gray. The tortilla was hard and I was super bummed. Even the sauce came in processed packets instead of the 2oz sauce cups with lids they normally come in at the other location. The espresso didn't taste like it usually does either. It was kind of...sour, if that's even possible. I couldn't finish it. I really wanted to count on this location as being the same as the other one but it isn't. read more
