On my way out of Astoria I decided to pick up some Greek food. Not knowing the local scene - Yelp helped me to find Aliada and what a gem! To begin with, the service was great! I called in my order for pickup from the car without a menu. I'd never been there so, Vicky on the phone took the time to help me order exactly what I was looking for. She really knew the menu! Now the food... Tzatziki sauce & Pitas... GREAT! Pitas were the standard that you'd get from a good greek restuarant, but the Tzatzki was one of the best I've had. Very flavorful and full of fresh cucumbers. Mediterranean salad... Pretty standard salad with cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, cheese, and olives. Everything was nice and fresh, but could have used a bit more seasoning ****Meat & Rice stuffed Grape leaves - AMAZING! The star of the meal! They only make them on Wed. & Sat. but if you are there either of those days... they are a must!**** Lamb Sausage - GREAT! it was so meaty and flavorful. I felt like they just took fresh hunks of lamb and put it in a sausage casing. If this isn't made on location - it is made in Astoria Entree Accompaniments - Good. I got the rice and lemon potatoes which were both very flavorful. They are probably better than I'm making them out to be, but I tried them the with my leftovers as the second meal I got out of this order. Excellent! I went here on a date with a guy that lives in Astoria and it was worth the trip from the UES. It was Sunday night and gorgeous out, so we sat outside. It was crowded when we got there at 8, but by the time we left there were only a few tables that looked like neighborhood folks. The waiter was very attentive. My date ordered ouzo to drink, which I had never had, but the waiter prepared me for the taste and it was great. Then he gave us the full Greek experience. I was going to get the gyro, but the waiter talked me out of it telling me I can order a gyro a diner and should get one if their specialties. I got the shieftalia (lamb)....excellent!! Amazing traditional take on Greek/Cypriot cuisine. Everyone from the owner to the servers are very friendly and hospitable. As others noted, the grilled octopus is probably the best I have ever head, and my father said the same (he's been eating Greek food in this area for 30 years). We also had the mixed grill for 2, which was outstanding. The cucumber sauce (tzatziki) was slightly different than we are used to (in a good way). The shieftalia stood out with a very tender and fresh taste, while the lountza was a bit salty for our liking but still very flavorful. The grill halloumi cheese is also amazing. Good for: Outdoor seating Might not be good for groups as the seating is limited; maybe if you call way ahead. Think of the quintessential Astoria Greek experience that is conveniently located on your corner. That is Aliada in a nutshell. Upon your arrival, you are often greeted by the owner who is always friendly and does his best to accommodate the patrons. There is always ample outdoor seating available for those warm summer nights. To the food itself, Aliada offers a good combination of seafood and meats. I usually go with a horiatiki salad and a side of beets. For the main courses, the Salmon steak and swordfish are great options. The dishes are always tasty and well cooked. The portion sizes are large but not overwhelming. the wine selection is great and somewhat affordable. Lastly, make sure you eat the warm pita and hummus that is brought to every table. I deducted a star for the prices, which are not crazy but still somewhat expensive for your corner Greek and Cypriot cuisine. Overall, I plan on returning to Aliada many times! read more

We had a marvelous lunch of maze today. Each plate was delicious and well presented. We fijnished off with Greek coffee and galactburico.

The food was excellent. The waitstaff was very attentive. I had the grilled calamari and shrimp. Both came out perfectly charred.

Disappointing. Waited at least 45 minutes to be seated when we were told it would be 10 even with a reservation. They sat us in the worst possible seat with people constantly walking by us and bumping into us while eating. Literally peoples butts in our face. The only positive was that they gave us a glass of wine while we were waiting to be seated. Bad lighting, overrated, never coming here again. read more

Our second great meal at this great restaurant! Two of us had fish that was fresh as can be.... others had their special octopus, avgolemono (egg lemon soup), and spanakopita. Came here with two other friends on a winter, snowy evening. The service was wonderful, the food was great, and we were not rushed. I had the seafood plate, which really serves two. The grilled seafood had a great char, but was still tender. I also had the pulled grilled lamb sandwich, which was very tender. The house wine was decent. I went with my cousins on a Saturday afternoon. We got seated right away. (Yes they have outdoor seating and it's amazing). We decided to get a whole bunch of appetizers (you can either pick fish or meat). We chose fish. The food came out within 10 minutes. Spicy feta dip, tahini, hummus, Caviar, mussels, swordfish skewers with fries, seafood salad, grilled calamari, grilled octopus, beets, and salad. Everything was amazing. I've been here on a few occasions when the weather was much warmer and their outdoor seating was exceptional. Their wines are very well-priced by-the-carafe and I didn't feel at all under-or-overwhelmed about anything - the wait staff were pleasant. I had the calamari both times, but I must admit that while they didn't serve Tzatziki sauce with it, I highly recommend to ask for it. Both times they didn't hesitate to give me a free side of it. 3 stars for great service. our waiter was friendly, attentive and smart. It was our first visit and he was honest with the recommendations. The Pita/hummus they give complimentary is SO good and fresh that we finished ours in minutes. the waiter graciously refilled the basket. I would have given 4 stars If my falafel sandwich was not so bland. I couldnt finish it. The fries that came with it were good (but then it isn't too hard to get the french fries right) it's the falafel that's tricky, and being a Greek restaurant it was not the best. Wow. This is seriously the best deal and quality for seafood in all of NYC. What a gem. I'm stuffed but feel so rejuvenated having stuffed my face with such delicious ingredients. First, the staff is just amazing. So attentive + fun. I had a huge suitcase but one of the owners kindly opened the door and offered to put it to the side. The servers are knowledgeable and has such a fun energy to them. It's like you're eating in a huge Greek family's secret spot. I would highly recommend. I got the dorado, beets and lemon potatoes. Everything was so well seasoned and prepared. I love the touch of Greek salt on the tables allowing you to customize to your liking. My only regret is to not have discovered this sooner! Just be patient as fish takes time, but so worth it! I even loved the sweet they give you at the end. read more

Really nice place, the food is good, they have some great home made Hummus plate and Falafel, the greek salad is also a good starter, every dish is coming with rice and another side and its taste good whatever you'll take. they have really nice gyro and chiken, very good sword fish and some tasty lamb! it's better to sit outside so you can enjoy the vibe and the fresh air on some Friday evening, the owners are doing their best and very inviting, but the rest of the crew are kind of clumsy, the prices are not too expensive but I saw better prices for greek food before. so 4 will do for this place!! read more

I ordered delivery and everything was perfectly cooked and fresh and delicious: chicken kebab was generous, sausages were packed with flavor, even the side salad that could have been an afterthought was full of feta and olives and magically ripe tomatoes. This was probably one of the best Greek restaurants I've been to in a while. The ambiance made you feel as if you were in Greece. I ordered the eggplant rolls stuffed with spinach and cheese and it absolutely made me crave more. Being vegetarian, it is sometimes hard to find a variety of Greek dishes, however, Aliada's menu definitely accommodated. The staff there was great as well. It was a little slow as we were waiting for the check but the food made it worth the wait. I would recommend sitting outside and going on a weeknight. My favorite greek place in Astoria, and yes, I've tried the other more famous ones in Astoria and Aliada is really a hidden gem. Love their free starter - warm pita bread and homemade hummus dip. By far the WORST Greek restaurant in Astoria!! Being Greek myself and having grown up eaten at most places in Astoria and many in Greece as well, the food here is by far the worst I've ever had. None of the food was seasoned and was tasteless. The saving grace was that the souvlaki and grilled calamari were well cooked, but lacked taste. Better off going to Stamatis instead and get MUCH better quality food. I HIGHLY recommend that you avoid this place. (PS. This review is for delivery: Just recently moved to Astoria and was in search of some good Greek food. Given the large Greek population in Astoria, i assumed this would be an easy task. This was my first attempt and it was a disappointing one. The first issue was the hour and 10 mins it took to deliver three chicken souvlaki sandwiches. We live 2 blocks away and we were originally told 45 mins. But I can understand it was a Saturday and they were most likely busy. The second issue, the food.. I have never ordered chicken souvlaki from a Greek place that does not provide at least one side of tzatziki sauce. Also, the sauce was put directly on the souvlaki sandwich which, given the time it took to deliver, made the pita soggy and caused it to stick to the aluminum foil -- in the middle of eating I found tiny pieces of foil molded into the pita. Not fun. Not appetizing. The fries were also soggy. The food in general was mediocre and not worth the wait or the price. It could be possible that this place is a better experience when you dine in, but their delivery game is lacking. read more
