    Papaya/eggplant nigiri

Vegan cuisine that would excites the palate of non-vegan. I had a reservation so when we arrived the hostess sat us in a small patio area in the back of the restaurant but we didn't really loved it so I asked if there was a possibility to sit us inside and they complacently moved us. Inside was super cozy and romantic with live music. I don't really know if it was an event or if they usually have live music on the weekends but it was nice. Great ambience. The chef of this restaurant is ahead of the game with a creative and delicious vegan food. I'm not vegan and I did NOT missed the meat. The food is outstanding. I took my mom and my husband (also non-vegan) and they loved it. The menu is so simple that literally we ordered one of each to try. We absolutely loved the focaccia caprese. The dough was perfectly made, fluffy on the inside. The nigiris were my favorite! Amazing combination of flavors. My only suggestion is to put a little less rice. The pasta dish was incredibly tasty, pasta al dente and creamy. The chef does the sauce out of cashews. We devour it so fast that I didn't even had a chance to take a picture of it. The cocktails were also very good but strong. I was tipsy with only one jaja Overall beautiful place with tasty food and great ambience. Highly recommend!

A gorgeous meal in a very romantic space. My partner and I shared the Olivia (olives and crackers), Caesar salad, and raviolo (not pictured). Each dish was very thoughtfully prepared and delicious! This is OG plant-forward food imo, in that it's for people who love eating plants because it creatively highlights the ingredients' natural deliciousness and versatility and doesn't try to make them taste like something else. Everything was amazing, I'm a caesar fanatic so that was my fav. Servers were very inviting. I was curious why they only have 6 menu items? I'm excited to come on the next Monday when they have pizza as well. Bravo

It's the only vegan restaurant in Old San Juan. That alone is worth the visit but Aliado Bar & Aperitivo goes above and beyond with its thoughtful menu. Jessica sets the mood with an artisanal cocktail and Chef Jerome delivers with inventive and mouth-watering bites. The sueño con Firenze, a Negroni-inspired drink was a refreshing starter walking into the cozily lit space from the warm evening shower outside. This was quickly followed by the nigiri, made from rehydrated papaya placed on top of an eggplant slice; it was a bite. The unctuousness and the hint of umami hit the spot. Next, the arancini atop a creamy carrot sauce deftly hints of Chef's skill with veganizing traditional dairy-based ingredients. (This guy makes his cashew cheese in-house.) It was a satisfying meal from start to finish. Located near the southern end of Calle del Cristo, Aliado has a bar area, two small dining areas, and an intimate patio. If you're in Viejo San Juan, Aliado is worth seeking out to complete your trip.

I took my wife here for her birthday and it was one of the top dining experiences of our lives. The restaurant of lively and intimate with extremely warm service (English and Spanish). Matching this vibe is a very tight and perfected tapas-style menu with a few specials. This small menu affords a level of perfectionism in flavor/texture/presentation that is on par with Michelin star restaurants. To drink, I had a mezcal cocktail that was bursting with smoky/fruity flavor. The food service is relaxed with time to finish each plate in between servings. The house made cheese board was fantastic with diverse flavors and textures that are rare in plant based cheeses. Other highlights included the caprese focaccia with very fresh mozzarella and beautiful heirloom tomatoes as well as the intensely lemon-flavored ricotta ravioli without too much tartness. Finally, the pecan pie à la mode was easily one of the best desserts we've ever had.

The drinks were crafted beautifully and the bartenders were super friendly and gave us great local suggestions as well. Highly recommend stopping by for a few drinks here.

One room, the main area had salsa, dancing, and music and eventually at 9:30 PM a live salsa band came on. That was a whole lot of fun however it was very crowded. The second room had a nice house music going on. There was a bar and a DJ and it was not as busy as the main area was. And the third room was the bar that leads to the outside called La Cubanita, which was playing mellow lounge music with a tropical beat. The food at La Factoria was definitely overrated and just OK. I did not think it was worth the price and I probably would not eat there again. None of us really liked what we ordered, but we ate it because well... We were hungry. They do offer a wide range of beverages from your standard beer, wine, and top shelf brands, however, they are known for their own concoctions. All of the drinks we ordered were delicious. Overall, we had fun, and it was not too pricey for the beverages. I don't think that I would ever go again, especially not later in the week as it is so busy, and we went on a Monday and we were dancing cheek to cheek!!! Enjoy!

The…read moreatmosphere and warmth of our initial experience was so great that I made it a deliberate mission to find it again when visiting recently. We were thrilled when we finally walked through the door again after wracking our brains to remember our favorite spot in Old Town. Upon entering, we were greeted by a young woman who, mentioned it was her very first day as an assistant to the bartender. Despite being brand new, she was warm, engaged, and genuinely welcoming, excited for us that we had made it back after several years, and impressed with our efforts. Shortly thereafter the bartender on duty approached us mid-conversation, visibly irritated. When I mentioned that we hadn't yet decided on drinks but were being well taken care of in the meantime, she interrupted sharply to bark at us that she was the bartender and the ONLY one who could help us. The tone was unwelcoming enough that after a moment, my companion and I determined that we would prefer to move on and left without ordering. The atmosphere is truly special, and it deserves to be matched by the experience guests receive at the bar. Our experience was simply not the vibe that night, and I truly was disappointed FOR the new hire who was doing what she should in engaging us until we could be served. I sincerely hope to return on a future visit to San Juan and to rediscover the experience that first brought me back to La Grieta.
