One of the first places to have a gluten free menu. Owner is celiac and is the quintessential Portuguese mom, running the show from the tiny kitchen. Alice's is a hole in the wall diner, with prices to match, but with gluten free belgian waffles, pancakes and fried seafood for lunch. Visited here for the first time today. Food was very good, sausage is NOT the frozen kind (I hate it when I am served frozen sausage), eggs cooked perfect, red bliss potatoes, all very good. Biscuit was burned on the bottom but they told me first as they would have given me another selection, but I was fine with it. My cousin had pancakes,which she liked. The only thing that prevented me from giving them 5 stars was that my cousin's pancakes were served with margarine, not butter. This may not matter to some, but it limits what I order to something that I would not normally put butter on (french toast, pancakes, etc). read more

I've driven by this place 2-4 times a day for 3+ years, never went in. Today, I picked up some takeaway -Lumberjack- 2 fluffy blueberry pancakes, 2 over easy eggs, bacon and chourico; absolutely fantastic! Place was packed, was greeted by the only waitress (who was busting her butt and doing a great job!), Alice whipping out meals on the grill. I'm taking all my friends to Alice's from now on. Two Lumberjack meals for under $22!! You can't beat that price or the friendly service. read more

My husband and I were excited to try this place because it had a gluten free breakfast and lunch menu and he has celiac disease. Unfortunately, we were not impressed. It was very small, but we didn't have to wait long for a seat. We did wait a while to get a cup of decaf coffee which was warm at best, and not warm at all when cream was added to it. We did like the flavor, though! We both tried the GF cinnamon rolls. Mine was warm and soft, my husband's was warm and rock hard all the way through. So I guess it's hit or miss with those. I ordered the GF sweet bread french toast. The flavor was decent and it had a spongy texture which many will know is uncommon for gluten free breads! It was served with margarine and artificial maple syrup. For me, I prefer butter and 100% maple syrup over any other options! In their defense, I did not ask if they had butter or real syrup. My husband had a steak and cheese omelet. It was cold. The cheese inside never even melted! The GF toast was an end piece and was burned on the edges. The waitress did point that out and said they would replace it with something else if he'd like. Again, the flavor and texture of the toast was decent for GF. Finally, we shared some chourico hash which was warm and flavorful. The waitress did take the omelet off the bill. Still, we paid $24 and the food was not worth it in my opinion. I fear that it happened again. Yelpers steered me wrong. I don't even know where to begin. So....we have no idea how long our food took to get to us. We know it was more than 25 minutes because of when we started looking at the clock wondering where our food was. That's bad when a restaurant only has maybe ten? tables. It's a tiny place. But clean. Immaculate actually. The interesting thing here is the entirely separate gluten free menu they have. I think that's the first time I have seen an entire menu dedicated to that. Anyways, the food FINALLY came out. I got a cheese roll, bagel, and home fries. My mother got a broccoli omelet. My cheese roll was greasy and bland, my homefries were greasy and bland, and my bagel was done perfectly. My mother says that her omelet was bland. and when they forgot the toast, true to form it took forever to get it, and it wasn't toast at all. it was two pieces of bread with butter that wasn't melting because of the lack of heat this "toast" emitted. I give it three stars for a couple of reasons. the cleanliness and the prices. Those were fantastic. Oh and I forgot about the coffee! Disgusting! It was a crime against coffee! Yuck. The atmosphere was cozy, the food incredible (the biscuits and gravy made this Southerner miss home) and Alice and her staff provided some of the best service I've ever had. I've never been treated with such disrespect! My party and I got dirty looks as soon as we walked in; maybe because the two female servers were too lazy to want to serve a party of 5. We waited way too long for someone to come talk to us, and waited too long for a gluten free menu, and waited too long for our food. The two female servers were very rude and didn't spend more than 5 seconds at our table; she would be walking away as I was still trying to talk to her, every time. It's a small place, and I apologize if my 3 and 7 year olds were too loud for them; they were well behaved for a larger place, but it's hard to have a 3 year old not make any noise. My 3 year old dropped his toy and went to pick it up under another table, and one waitress looked at him, looked at a lady across the room who was probably her friend, and said, "That's why you don't have kids!" She's lucky we are civilized people, is all I can say. overall: the food was good, but we will never ever go back as long as they are employed there, and I've told this story to many many people who eat gluten free.
