We randomly decided to eat here because we had just gotten done with our tour at the Mountain Terrace right across the street (one of our potential wedding venues). I was a little hesitant at first but Yelp had great things to say about this place (and I didn't want to suffer car-sickness on the way down the mountain before we can find a place to eat). This place was SUPER busy and packed even though we came in for a late lunch (and people kept pouring in after us also!). We were immediately seated and ordered the following: - OJ: tastes freshly squeezed & very delish! A great way to start the meal as we didn't have breakfast before going up the mountain for our venue tour... - BMW burger: of course my fiance just had to order this particular burger because he drives a beamer...very yummy and loved the chips & pickle on the side! - Texas-style smoked ribs with Alice's Bourbon BBQ sauce: this was my dish and it was SOOOOO good!!!!! I have a HUGE thing for ribs and I've yet to find a REALLY good place in the Bay Area (the only place I will recognize is Phil's BBQ in SoCal)...I was beginning to give up hope until this place totally changed my mind! Service was good for a place like this in the mountains. I also had to use their restroom - which is located outside to the back - and at first I was freaking out and was worried that it'll be nasty (not to mention it rained that day) but it turned out to be okay for a place that's a little ways away from civilization...thank goodness! If we ever end up in the Woodside mountains again, we would definitely go to Alice's again (so I can revisit their amazing ribs...)! read more

Stopped by here today because we had passed by it on our way to Memorial Park and, once we were done playing around at the park, it was honestly one of the few search results that came up (oddly, an anesthetic supply place came up first on the "food" list). Neat location; full of passing motorcycles which is fun. It was the three of us. My six year old picked a burrito off the kids' menu. It came back the size of an adult burrito. Not complaining; just weird for a kid's menu to get a gigantic taqueria-sized burrito and it really lacked any flavor. I got the brisket sandwich. It was a little short on meat which made the bun seem huge in comparison and really altered the ratio in the wrong direction. Lisa's patty melt was bland. All in all, it was a $50 lunch for the three of us and wasn't terribly good. We'll try somewhere else next time. read more

Revised review and not because the first one was bad, because I was just here and really enjoyed myself. Andy the owner is an awesome, super cool guy as is his partner and brother Jamie (I attached a pic of us in the Alice's photo's). Today I had breakfast here after an early morning ride at Skeggs. I ordered a poached egg, hashbrowns and a biscuit. Simple delicious breakfast that really hit the spot. I definitely recommend those homemade biscuits!!! Also had the homemade coffee cake which was warm & fabulous!!! The burgers and fries are killer as well (what I've ordered the previous times I've been here). This is a spot where a lot of motorcycle riders, road bikers and mtn. bikers stop. Great atmosphere, good service, resonably priced all american food, an all around pleasant place to be especially if it's a warm day and your sitting outside. read more

I visited Alice's recently based on the recommendation of a friend. The pandemic precautions were appropriate and the environment was comfortable. After placing my order, I waited at a picnic table with a remote buzzer. The first time the buzzer went off, I picked up drinks: beer and a Manhattan (both tasty). The second time the buzzer went off, I picked up my food: farm burger with kettle chips. The burger was made with grass-fed beef; quite tasty. The quality of the food and environment were much better than expected. The only concern would be with parking. Even though I arrived for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon, parking was limited. It's like a cool cabin-y establishment in the trees of the Woodside area. You find all kinds of people from locals to tourists to bikers. It was very busy and I like the idea that you can get breakfast until 2 PM which I considered but by the time I got to the register outside to order it was about five minutes past. I ended up getting a local rock fish sandwich. It was plenty of everything except the fish!? I have never had such a small amount of fish on a sandwich. It was loaded with tons of lettuce, two tomato slices, a little bit of red onions and came with a spicy mayo on the side and I had more mayo on the side. It came with crispy fresh potato chips which I normally wouldn't eat but they were good, and pickles on the side. The staff was pleasant and their sanitation was good. I would've only had a better experience if I actually had a decent amount of fish- it didn't begin to cover the bun. I have actually never had a fish sandwich with so little fish. There were so many condiments etc. I couldn't taste it anyway whether that's a good thing or not I'm not sure. What I ate tasted good, but the next rock fish sandwich I will get at Barbara's Fishtrap which is double to triple the amount. I would definitely go back for the atmosphere and the smell of the grill is wonderful. I've had good burgers there before and someone had ribs today which looked good, so I will order something different the next time. They are very dog friendly too which is nice. read more

On a recent bike trip down the coast to Santa Cruz we stopped by Alice's on our way home and the food and service was awesome! We had the Half Chicken lunch special for $13.50 and it was insane. So I've driven past here for the last 20+ years of my life and I always see a large crowd of motocycles and cars parked here so I was assuming it would be AMAZING. Finally got a chance to check it out after a hike nearby at the state park. It is seat yourself atmosphere so I was lucky to find a seat for 2 right away. Everything looked good and I really wanted to try the onion rings and garlic fries but it was just the two of us and we both figured a burger would be plenty of food. Not too long after being seated, our table was wiped and we were given menus. We ordered a tri tip sandwich and the Norton burger(bacon/bleu cheese). Both these portions were pretty big and they came with a bag of kettle chips. Both of us mentioned they seemed a bit dry even though we took bites and some meat juices would drip from each of our burgers. Both burgers were fairly good so why the 3 stars you may ask? When I compare it to many other burger places that I normally go to or places I've been to, these burgers are pretty subpar no offense. I've had better tri tip sandwiches in Santa Barbara, Cal Poly, and even Santa Clara. I asked if the santa clara joint we go to was better and my friend said yes. Place is fairly pretty clean minus the 1 fly but you are basically near the woods so this is forgiveable, the waitress I had was nice; anyone else who is waiting a table didn't really give us any attention when we were looking for a refill or the check. I DO want to come back in the future to give this place another chance with a different order in addition to the appetizers but I wouldn't drive out of my way specifically to this place for the food. We found this place on Yelp, and once again, my fellow Yelpers didn't let me down! The place is a cute cabin in the middle of the woods, as soon as you go in it feels like you just entered your cool aunt's house to eat a great homemade meal. Staff: super friendly, welcomed us with the largest, most genuine smile, like they really appreciate our business. Food: pure deliciousness! We got there at 9am, and had two of their breakfast specials. I had the San Francisco Benedict's: two potato pancakes instead of the English muffin, with a sun dried tomatoes hollandaise. Tell me about a treat for my taste buds!!! The hollandaise sauce was so creamy, and the sun dried tomatoes added so much flavor to it. Eggs were poached to perfection! My husband ordered the Red Neck Benedict's and said they were also delicious. Mine were so, so good that I didn't even bothered trying his! The coffee was fresh and perfectly brewed! No bitter aftertaste, and perfectly strong for my taste. The restrooms need a paragraph on their own! They are two little cabins at the back of the main restaurant! So cute, so clean, adding tons of character to Alice's Restaurant. Also, it was a chilly day in Cali and the entire place had heaters on, including the restrooms, making it very comfortable to be inside. I came here with a group of 10 on a Monday holiday after hiking in Wunderlich County Park, and it was pretty packed. We split into 2 tables and sat outside. The heaters were somewhat broken, so they tried to fix it for a while. It didn't really work. Anyway, I shared a BMW sandwich (Applewood bacon, sauteed mushrooms, worchestire sauce, and jack or provolone cheese I forgot), which came with lettuce/tomato/onion, pickles and a bag of sea salt kettle chips. The burger wasn't very big, and it wasn't very flavorful nor special. Mainly it lacked flavor. I would prefer In-N-Out over the burger I had here, and this one was twice as expensive. The burger was almost $13! Definitely paying for the location I guess. The service was okay; the waitress came back to take drink orders, refill coffees/water/etc, and see whether everything was okay. Food wasn't good though, so I won't be coming back. read more

This place is popular for their nice drive up to the resturant where you'll see nice rides and motorcycles. People are just hanging out having a good time. The wait was only about 10 minutes and we sat outside on the patio. We started with OJ, which is always good and a refreshing ice tea. The food didn't take too long and the service was good. The only down side would be the flies and bees, but it probably doesn't bother many people. Garlic fries were good to munch on, Jalopy burger was delicious, and i enjoyed the banana bread french toast with fruits! Overall, the place is pretty clean and I liked the atmosphere. read more

I was super excited to go here as there is a huge story about Alices Restaurant and the Group W Bench. I was also pleasantly surprised that they make pretty much everything in house except the root beer and it's made locally close by. The ride up to here was really great as well. I had the spare ribs and fries. I was really happy about the on site made BBQ sauce, it's was pretty close to perfect i will say! Alice's is not an institution because of it's food, but because of the bikes and cars - but the food's still pretty good. This restaurant is for those who appreciate the journey as much as the destination. The drive to this restaurant, from all approaches, takes place on curvy, two lane roads, best navigated in a car that has decent handling characteristics or a motorcycle. On any given day, someone is taking something out for a drive, be it a sports car, classic, or bike, and they'll be happy to tell you all about it. This is an establishment that knows its target market well. There are pumps where you can fill up (no chargers... yet). Racer 5 is always on tap, and burger combinations are named after motorcycle brands. There's nothing on the menu that's exceptional, but everything is executed well, and the portions are generous. The omelets are big and loaded with ingredients. The burgers are cooked well and seasoned well, and the fries are fresh. The coffee cake is great with or without coffee, and even as a side order it's a slab, so you'll either have to be very hungry or bring some friends. I've tried things from all over the menu, and I can say that I've never had a bad meal here. The service is friendly although it can be a little slow when the place fills up. But then, you don't go to Alice's when you're on a schedule. read more

THE destination for any motorhead on Skyline. This restaurant just happens to be at the perfect location. It sits right at the intersection between Skyline and Woodside. For that it's the destination for a lot of drivers and riders. It's obvious that Alice's caters to motorheads. They have a large parking lot -- though it can still get packed. There's lots of outdoor seating and they know that motorcyclists need more space in the restaurant because of the gear. They also serve up free wifi. I do get a cell signal here, but it's not that great. With the wifi, I find myself posting up random stuff from the ride/drive here almost every time. As far as the food goes here, well, it's not that good. It's prefect serviceable and what you'd expect here. There's also nothing special in terms of dishes here. It is everything you'd want from an American restaurant on the roadside in the middle of woods. read more

We used to stop here once an awhile while out on our bikes. It's been at least two years since we were here last. Very disappointed with our experience, not counting the new COVID protocols, the food, burgers and garlic fries were just average, missing most of the garlic on the fries. The band that was supposed to start at 5pm, the time we got there, still seemed to be warming up when we left at 5:40. The menu has changed too, not for the best. Overall, it wasn't worth a trip up the hill for what we got. Sorry Alice's, it will be a long time before we try you again unless, I see some better reviews on Yelp. read more

Saturday lunch: 25 min in line for a party of 2; 40 min waiting for food. Got a check after 2 calls. Total 1.5 hours including line. Food: I got Impossible burger- came cold, tasteless. My husband asked for Kobe beef burger medium rare- came well-done. No difference with the regular burger. Conclusion: it's only one place to eat on the ridge, so they don't care about quality. This is my boyfriend's & my favorite spot! He's been obsessed with it for years and when we first started dating it's all he'd talk about until he finally brought me here. It's an absolutely gorgeous location, the perfect destination after a drive up scenic 84. The ambiance is so fun and eclectic, the food is always so comforting and delicious, and the staff has only ever been friendly and attentive. I've brought friends and family here as well and everyone has been impressed -- this spot is such an incredible "hidden" gem! It also basically features an unofficial car show in its parking lot since everyone drives up their fancy old cars or new motorcycles on the weekends. Can't recommend this local landmark enough! (I recommend their huevos rancheros, sweet potato fries, or coffee cake!) read more

But to be honest, I'd love to visit again, I'm sure they have tastier options than the tuna sandwich I chose, which I found to be small and not tasting particularly amazing, especially given its hefty price tag. I wish I had known they served it with chips. Didn't eat any of them, would have much preferred a potato salad, or french fries, or something similar. There are many tables on the patio outside, which is really nice because you are literally in the middle of the forest (there are two roads and a parking lot, but you get the idea). They use wood and it looks rather good, modern and inviting. It seems like enjoying a beer would be great there, but I don't drink and ride. It's a biker spot, a great establishment for our community, one of the only ones in the Bay Area, and I'm really glad Alice's Restaurant is still in business, providing a rare service. Regarding Cherylynn's review, she makes it sound like it's super dangerous to drive there. I really don't know where she has seen cliffs, there are none around. The highways are state of the art, well maintained, debris is removed promptly. No serious twisties on Hwy 84/35 that intersect at Alice's Restaurant. Honestly, the biggest dangers I can think of are deer, rocks, leaves, ​and people passing bicycles in blind curves. Hwy 84 has fast long sweeping curves, and Skyline Blvd (Hwy 35) is straight for the most part. It's also nowhere near the route to Santa Cruz. You have to drive on Hwy 35 or Hwy 84 on purpose, as they don't link any major towns. As for it being a "sausage fest", who's fault is it, uhm? Also I haven't experienced that when I came on a weekday evening, there were families there, definitely no loud bros or whatever she calls a sausage fest. Which is offensive by the way. I don't call Starbucks taco parties. Please, please be careful driving around there. I'm constantly seeing, hearing, and reading about accidents in the area. Cyclists falling down because of leaves, collisions at intersections, speeding motorists... Last time I was there Hwy 92 was backed up due to a serious collision between two vehicles. Also please don't be one of these people who trash the vista points nearby, drink and drive or smoke and drive. read more

My last few visits for lunch have been bad. The food was not good, the soda tasted funny, and the service was not good. The location and atmosphere is great. The food? Not so much. I paid for a nacho and a coke...$20 for a terrible Nacho that was very small and a coke that tasted gross. The time before I ordered a jalopy burger. It was just ok but the price was astronomical. I'd tried to get around to trying this place for quite a while. As it happens, this was an unfortunate time to try it. A computer issue apparently led to them losing all and every in-flight orders, including mine. Result: it took half an hour before somebody got around to checking whether I had in fact gotten my order at all. I don't know that there's a great way to deal with a situation like that. But it put me in the awkward situation of either adding to their stress by bugging them about my order, or waiting for them to get around to figuring out I was one of the many left hanging. I get it's an unusual situation and not exactly something you plan for, but it kinda ruined my experience. Do I have a great solution for it? No I don't. But it happened, and it was kinda uncool. Subtracting that, I'd still only go for the ambiance and location. The food is fairly average diner fare. I've had better burgers several other places in the area. The garlic fries were frankly a waste. Soggy and not crispy at all, and kinda bland. Perhaps they didn't sync the prep of them with the rest of my order so they got stale? It's roughly what I expected, and on a better day I would have thought it charming and adequate rather than underwhelming. As it is, I wish I had gone somewhere else for my Sunday brunch. Parking is a bit of a struggle. Try to go early, especially on weekends. On the positive side, it's a great place to spot exotic cars and motorbikes if you're into that. read more
