Been here twice now and it's our new favorite breakfast spot. Everyone is super friendly, service is amazing, food is affordable and the cafe de olla coffee is so delicious! We've sat inside and outside on a beautiful Sunday morning. My favorite thing there is the berry pancakes! SO YUMMY!!!! (Only problem I had was a customer who wore a whole bottle of perfume next to our table so that's all my husband and I could smell or taste! (GAG!) Someone who wears terrible heavy cheap cologne or perfume especially so early in the morning should be thrown out when people are trying to eat! I think it's so rude and inconsiderate to the people around you. It's no different than someone who comes in smelling like a disgusting ashtray!!!! The food is good, though not consistently mind-blowing. If you order the right dishes, it can be excellent, but there is still some room for improvement. The cinnamon specialty coffee was quite good. The regular coffee was darker and more bitter than I expected. The Nutella latte tasted a little too syrupy. I think using real Nutella would give it a richer, more authentic flavor. Overall drink experience (3.5/5). The avocado toast was tasty, especially the chipotle mayo. However, there was far too much spinach on top, which overpowered the avocado toast and eggs Benedict. The side salsa was also too spicy and could be toned down a bit. Reducing the spinach and heat would make the dish feel much more balanced. Overall 3.5/5. The standout was the berry French toast. It was heavenly and absolutely delicious, an easy 5/5. The omelette burritos were great too lacked a bit of sauce inside but solid 4/5 Overall, Eskina is a promising new restaurant with a great atmosphere and genuinely pleasant staff. I ended up here after a search on Yelp for a place to eat breakfast while a family member was having surgery at Sequoia. I am from Oakland and have become a total food snob with our bounty of riches in that town. Breakfast is my favorite meal to eat out so I have a lot of places to compare this to and this place is easily in my top 10 if not top five. I ended up getting the avocado toast which sounds so basic but the chipotle mayo was delicious, and the ratio of spinach to avocado to egg was exactly right and then the buttered delicious sourdough completed it. I decided to order an emotional support pancake, and it's one of the best pancakes that I've ever had. Maybe it's sourdough? It's got a really delicious complex sour note to it and it's beautifully brown. I'm also really picky about coffee and the coffee was delicious. We had been hearing about Eskina and the "famous chilaquiles" so we decided to give this place a try. With some of the others, the food was underwhelming. I got green sauce chilaquiles with eggs over medium. They (the salsa) were lacking flavor. They just tasted salty and tart chips. I've prepared chilaquiles at home myself and had with Mexican friends/family so I'm very familiar with the dish. My son ordered the breakfast and a $7 orange juice. When he ordered, he was asked if he wanted bacon or sausage... He responded sausage, but didn't realize there was an up charge. We both agreed that the thing was reasonably placed was the $3 sausage up charge as they were decently sized and yummy. The rest of the food was basic. We compared it to an overpriced Dennys :-( (no hate to Denny's that was a regular spot for us). I can see this being a good local community spot for the people living in the area because there are really many breakfast cafés... Was in RWC viewing a dance studio with the family and we were all exhausted and hungry from the late start to our morning. We found Eskina near by and thought to try it. Felt new to us as we approached it we remembered the old restaurant in that space that didn't ever get much traction but this new ownership and offerings is totally different and bonus it was packed with tables of all sizes! They have a great breakfast, brunch, and lunch menu. Plenty of seating available outside with umbrellas for people watching, covered outdoor patio of the weather is nice and you prefer a bit more shade and seating nicely lite and air conditioned inside. The place is as like new but we found out that they have been open now for 2 years, nice clean spot for family and friends of all ages. They can host bigger/private parties too. We tried this new brunch spot in the "little Tijuana " section of Redwood City. I was excited to try the Chilaquiles with green sauce and steak. The steak was about 3 oz so really small for the $9 up charge. The Chilaquiles were good but not great. They lack the the bold flavor I would expect with homemade salsa. I've been to Eskina three times now, and overall I've really enjoyed the food. I've tried three different dishes (the chilaquiles, avocado toast, and an omelette) and each one was well-presented, reasonably portioned, and delicious. One of my visits included the chilaquiles with steak. While I thought the $9 upcharge for the steak was a bit high considering the amount provided, the dish itself was flavorful, saucy, and well-balanced. Most recently, I ordered the omelette with chicken. I appreciated that it came with a generous amount of grilled chicken, along with potatoes and two slices of toast. The portion size felt fair for the price, and I had no complaints about the meal. The restaurant operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and it can get quite busy, especially during peak brunch hours. I'm fairly certain it's family-owned, and I think they're doing a great job overall. The one area that could use some improvement is service. On two separate visits, we asked for water shortly after being seated and had to ask again after our food arrived because it had been forgotten. I understand that the staff may be stretched thin when it's busy, but it can also be difficult to flag someone down when you need assistance. That said, these service issues haven't taken away from the quality of the food. Overall, I think Eskina is a great brunch spot with plenty of options to choose from. Stopped here while visiting Palo Alto and it was a great little find. The restaurant sits on a cute corner and has a cozy, casual Mexican café vibe that immediately feels welcoming. Service was excellent from start to finish. Our servers were friendly, attentive, and very efficient. They took the time to explain menu items, offer recommendations, and made sure we had everything we needed without us having to ask twice. As for the food, overall it was good with a few small notes. The chilaquiles were tasty, but they leaned more toward chips with salsa rather than the traditional style where crispy tortillas are fully drenched in sauce. They ended up being a bit on the dry side for my taste. The omelet was fluffy and well cooked, and the huevos rancheros were good as well. I do wish I had asked for the chorizo to be cooked a bit longer since it was slightly underdone for my preference, and the sauce could have used a little more flavor. We happen to find this place through a quick yelp search. Happy to report it doesn't disappoint! We came coincidentally on their 1 year anniversary, they had live music (mild, easy listening tunes) outside. We were told only inside was available, which was perfectly fine. Our server was nice and friendly, however, they only checked on us once - it seemed not because of a lack of care, just mostly understaffed? The food was so good! We got the Mexican benedictos (topped with a chipotle sauce with a good kick!), the huevos divorciados - the red sauce was a little better than the green sauce, chilaquiles were a nice balance of crunchy/soft. All came with potatoes which were delicious! We finished off with the berries French toast which were some of the better French toast we've ever had! Only reason this isn't a 5 star review is the timing. I felt like our food took a little longer - and this was confirmed when we waited an extra 30minutes after our check was dropped/we paid for a takeout item to be brought to us. With the cost of eating out going way up, if I go out to eat, it better be well worth it and Eskina delivers. Eskina is brunch food with a Mexican bent. The food is flavorful and not heavy. Service is extremely friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is casual with indoor and outdoor seating available. I came on a weekday so street parking was easy. Reading through the reviews, I was ready to get the chilaquiles but my friend who had been here before highly recommended the Mexican Benedictos. His description of the smoky chipotle hollandaise sold me. Despite the next to it on the menu, I found the sauce to have a low pleasant kick and not a lot of heat. It worked really well with the perfectly poached eggs, chorizo, and avocado. I found myself dipping my potatoes in the hollandaise too. It's always a pleasure to come dine here! It's so delicious and tasty! Love their hot sauce is my favorite! This is the only pancakes I've tried and loved. (I have never liked pancakes until having them here) today we had our usual Taco macho, chorizo omelette and pancakes! The owner brought us a delicious cookies and cream waffle needless to say my daughter was so thrilled ! They make their own whipped cream and my daughter got seconds for hot chocolate which is great real homemade Mexican hot chocolate (not a packet or premade) I tried cafe de olla which is coffee with chocolate and cinnamon, it's a like a tea so delicious perfectly sweetened I really enjoyed it specially with this rainy cold weather. I recommend you try it! It's a very welcoming and friendly restaurant, they're so attentive to all tables since they have plenty of employees working. This place looked really cute online with great photos of the food, but unfortunately it missed the mark for us. We came in for breakfast on a very cold morning and were really hoping it would be warmer inside, but the restaurant itself was freezing, which made it hard to get comfortable. Service was okay, but there were two crying babies inside for our entire visit. I know that isn't the restaurant's fault, but it definitely took away from the experience. I ordered the Hungry Breakfast, which came with bacon, sausage, eggs, potatoes, and French toast. My friend ordered just the French toast. The food came out fairly quickly, but everything was barely warm instead of freshly hot. On top of that, everything was very underseasoned. Another frustrating detail was the $2 upcharge for syrup at a breakfast place. I would understand if it were premium 100 percent maple syrup, but it tasted like regular syrup. We also ordered coffee, but there was no cream or sugar on the table, which felt like another small but noticeable oversight. A lot of little things added up and really affected our experience. I really wanted comfort breakfast as my partner had a procedure at Kaiser Redwood City (about a 9 minute drive). I was lucky to find Eskina. The pictures and reviews looked great. I couldn't help but get the huevos divorciados (divorced eggs). The concept is to have two individual fried tortillas (like an unrolled enchilada), wity refried beans, two separate sauces (red and green), then topped with egg (I got over easy). Mmmm. I am already craving more. They also come with potatoes. Since I got over easy eggs, the yolk created an extra saucy component:). The service was friendly and I felt very welcome into a cute little restaurant. Everything was very clean and neat. Parking might be very rough on a busy weekend since it's in a residential area. I found some right away and was given my order in about 8 minutes, however it was about 10:30 on a Wednesday. I would definitely go back in to actually sit and eat my meal. My family and I have been here a few times and really enjoyed it, but we had a rather disappointing experience yesterday. My mom ordered a scramble and when the dish came out, they brought her an omelette so she mentioned that it was not what she ordered and they took it back. They brought back out the exact same omelette chopped into pieces and mixed up a bit. The fact of the matter is that an omelette and a scramble are not the same thing and do not taste the same. She could have cut up the omelette had it been what she ordered, but it was not. Why did they take it back if they weren't actually going to make what she ordered? Did they think that it wouldn't be obvious that it was the same omelette? She ended up leaving most of the egg. It is what it is, but I don't think we'll be coming back. They also have a free stack of pancakes per table special listed on the website and when I asked about it, I was told that they don't actually do that. The gentleman who took our order was great, although we requested to sit outside he didn't forget about us, checked up a few times and refilled my coffee without me asking which was nice. My fiancé ordered the jalapeño burger and he was impressed, HIM ENJOYING HIS FOOD MEANS IT WAS GOOD. He is often disappointed with taste and the way the meat is cooked but he said 10/10 fries were crispy and flavorful and we loved those. I ordered the chile verde plate which was served on a skillet which was nice because it stayed nice and hot through our meal. I enjoyed the side of beans and potatoes as well. We ordered the tres leches pancakes to share and they were good. The orange and citrus flavor was stronger than I anticipated but still yummy! Dedicating my 1st review of 2025 to Eskina. My visit took place on Veteran's Day 2024, but I still remember it well. My friend and I were greeted warmly upon entering and got seated in a corner by the window. This was great with lots of privacy because we ended up being there for 2+ hours catching up and no one hurried us out. We shared with the waiter that it was our first time, he made some recommendations and specials. I opted for the Marce's Garden Scramble with cubbed potatoes. Eating this didn't make me feel sluggish or blah afterwards, and it wasn't greasy, which I really appreciate. My friend went with the special and she enjoyed her entree. What made this place so special is that the table next over had about 8-10 senior ladies celebrating a birthday. All the staff came by and sang happy birthday. Not only that, many of the staff talked to each of the ladies. This was genuine hospitality. Probably will make a trek out to try their other entrees. #1/2025 read more
