Theme, service, drinks, apps, all five stars. The only reason for taking one star off was for price + entrees. I had been looking forward to this taco spot opening based on location and theme alone. How unique and fun! Let's be honest, Jacksonville didn't really need one more taco spot, but the theme is what drew me in, and they did it well! It's clean, hip, and fun. I met up with Alexa to try Alien Taco a couple of weeks back - the first week Alien Taco was open. We were able to find a comfy booth upon arrival, and started with tequila shots and these pretty drinks our server recommended! Very good recommendations. The appetizers we tried we both agreed were the highlight of the meals. We loved the guacamole app. Since this was the first week open, none of the entrees were available for order yet but all of the tacos were available to order and try. I picked 2 tacos to try, and Alexa picked 2 tacos to try, all four different. I did notice all of the taco prices were quite high. I thought okay let's wait until they come out to try them, and then see if that helps make sense as to why individual tacos are priced so high. In all honesty, we didn't love the tacos. The drinks, the friendly service, the tasty appetizers, (and the fun disco bathroom) were the selling points for us. My one drink, one appetizer, two tacos, and two tequila shots added up to be a good $100 ($97 to be exact, but that does include 20% tip) That's a lot for a taco spot if you ask me, even without putting the two shots on my tab for each of us. The cheapest taco starts at $7 plus tax. I think this is a superb spot for families with kids, and a great pre game spot for apps and drinks. With so many taco options in Jax, I would save the entree order for another spot but again, I did visit opening week. I'm sure given more time, the tacos and entrees would hit much more. I would be willing to try either entrees or tacos later on down the line. I want to state again just what great service we had. We had a couple of servers continuously check on us and give us recommendations; and a friendly manager come by the table to check on us as well. We never mentioned anything about the tacos because we were there to have a good time with eachother, take some pics, and catch up. It was all in all a very good time. My girlfriend and I went just to check out this new place and we left within 30 minutes. The place was understaffed. Finally our waiter did come and he was awesome but the rest was downhill from there music too loud food not worth mentioning it was just not a good experience too many other places to enjoy. read more

There were three of us and two ordered tacos and I ordered the burrito bowl. - the Mahi taco was very fishy - the Monte Cristo was excellent according to my husband. How the raspberry habanero jam didn't taste like raspberry and it wasn't spicy - the cheese steak taco was ok but had an unexpected sweetness to it. - the Alamo taco had an excellent flavor but - all of the taco shells were chewy. We visited Alien Taco a few weeks ago and were incredibly impressed by the staff and their attentiveness to the entire experience they were crafting. It's important to remember when you come here that they're doing something different -- it's not your "traditional" American Mexican-style resto, they're taking the format of tacos and making them their own. We tried the Philly Cheesesteak taco, the seafood one, and the birria taco (forgot their official names) and all were pretty dang good. Definitely don't sleep on the seafood one! The fresh made guacamole was amazing and WELL worth the price. Insanely fresh, flavorful, and more than enough to share. The only weak point was the salsa selection, especially compared to the guacamole. Would love to see a fresher pico and a fresher, spicier salsa for the table. The restaurant itself has a nice aesthetic and the servers are so nice. And I know this place is relatively new so I want to give them some grace, but this was not an ideal dining experience. We got to the restaurant and we were seated at 7:40. We were able to get out orders in relatively quickly, but we didn't get our food until 8:50. Thankfully, they did have free chips and salsa while we were waiting. But at a certain point, we just wanted to get our food already. The tacos themselves were decent, but not very consistent. One of my friend's tortillas was soggy, some of the meat was on the cooler side, etc. I got the Mexico city cheese steak taco which was pretty good. And I also got the monte cristo taco, which idk how I felt about it. It was good, but it was also so so greasy. But the raspberry jam it came with was good. As for the sides, I really wanted to try the street corn, but they were sadly out. So I got the mac n cheese instead. It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't that good. It was for sure cheesy, but it just didn't have that much flavor. The fries were actually really good, but on the menu, it says seasoned tries and these weren't really seasoned besides salt. The jalapeño cornbread had a really good flavor, but the texture was still quite wet. I think it tasted a lot better bringing it home and air frying longer. The food itself was fine, but I just don't know why everything took so long. Especially when a lot of it (mostly the sides and the chips and salsa) tasted like it was store bought and just heated up. But all that being said, it's a good amount of food. And I guess it's pretty worth it if you go on a Tuesday for 20% off tacos and margaritas. read more

Pretty good food and great service. My favorite was the spicy beef birria tacos. The loaded fries were also tasty. My bf had the spicy chicken taco (overly sauced with red hot) and the mahi taco (which was a little bland). Definitely left very full. Large portions. Also, they gave unlimited chips and salsa. A friend recommended this place and I was a little skeptical because of previous reviews, but for once I am glad I didn't listen. The ambiance is all alien based with some truly cool posters and paintings of aliens. It's upbeat and fun. We came for lunch and were seated immediately. We started with the margaritas flight. There was four different tastings . All were good. The chips salsa was good. We ordered queso. It was good but I prefer mine a little thicker. I got the chicken Beria quesadilla and the husband got the cheese burger taco and monte cristo taco with a bowl of street corn. The Beria was done beautifully with bursting flavors. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the side of cooked sweet plantains were a little bonus. My husband was definitely impressed with his tacos and every bite gone. The star was the bowl of street corn. Street corn never tasted better!! Last but not least, the strawberry churro cheesecake sundae. Lordy, heaven in a bowl with ice cream, warm churros, cheesecake, cool whip and strawberry syrup. Definitely a two person dessert and get ready for a wheelbarrow to get you out, lol! This place is like walking into a fever dream. The moment you open the door, it's alien galore. We came here for a coworker's birthday lunch and were cracking up at all the decor and different alien pictures all over the walls. It definitely took our minds off work. Our server, Austin, was great! He kept the drinks flowing and got our food out quickly. I ordered the burrito bowl to keep it simple. I wish I had ordered some tacos cause everyone was raving about how good they were. Austin told us they do karaoke some nights, and I need to come back to see that. In reviewing the menu, the prices are a little high for drinks, and there are quite a fewup charges. For example, the pick two tacos mostly all had up charges. The Montecristo taco was good, but we had to request the side of spicy jam and the jam was very sweet, but not spicy. Salsa is brought to the table is very chunky and sweet. We requested spicier salsa but they didn't have any. The fish taco was OK, but it smelled and tasted very fishy. The burrito bowl was good. read more

My home away from home! The menu is top tier, along with the decor. The drinks are everything, the margaritas are my go to. But, the cherry on top is the bathroom, haha. This was my second time visiting Alien Taco and we all decided to split appetizers at the table this night. We had the queso, buffalo chicken dip, loaded fries, and the beef empanadas! The standouts for me were the beef empanadas and the margaritas! They have a vast drinks menu and i appreciate that you're able to order your margaritas frozen as well. I tried the mango and the prickly pear margarita and they were both really good! They do preface that their menu isn't meant to replicate authentic Mexican food and they like to experiment with their own takes on different flavors/cuisines - so if you're looking for authentic Mexican food this may not be the place for you - other than that staff was friendly and I really enjoyed the fun decor inside. read more

I live in the immediate neighborhood near Alien Taco. When they first opened last year, we were super excited since tacos and Tex-Mex are a favorite. After 3 visits, I've officially given up on this place. The food is just OK...and the last time I was there it was near inedible. Every visit the service has been pretty bad. On my last visit, I decided to go in for lunch...I was alone, and the hostess seemed bothered that I didn't want to "just sit at the bar". After being sat, I waited 5-10 minutes before being greeted by server. After that the service was prompt...until the food came. Not sure what happened to my server, but once the tacos arrived she disappeared. Needed a drink refill...but since it was a relatively dead lunch hour, I didn't feel like I should be chasing someone down so I waited to see how long before someone checked on me. Easily another 10 minutes went by before the server appeared out of the kitchen to bring my check. I think the biggest red flag was that the owner was all over the place....she walked by my table several times. She wasn't acknowledging tables or guests, and certainly didn't notice that I needed a drink refill. That said, she was dressed in theme with an alien antennae hat. Perhaps that's the real issue....this place seems to be ALL ABOUT the gimmicks, and not about the food/service. Yes the decor is cool....the drink/stock ticker board is original and interesting. The drinks coming from the bar look good....but, without more focus on the food and the guest experience this place has an uphill climb ahead. And likely won't ever get my business again. read more

At Alien Taco, my family didn't try much food, but we did try the French fries, which were good. The drink: the pineapple cherry limeade mocktail, was amazing. Now, the service. It was iffy, the server was pretty good, very nice. However, he did forget to order a drink. Another thing about the food, there were ZERO vegetarian options except for the food. I ordered a shot of 1800 unchilled and it was a full pour probably 2 oz and not watered down. It gets 5 stars. Added it to my sour drink was a mistake. I should have just squeezed my line in it and on the shot. The bingo hostess was friendly and we played a few rounds my friend even won a prize. They were helpful in that regard. The bingo was probably the second best thing about the place. First and best thing about the place is the fun lighting in the bathroom, we love the door that's for either male or female and it just says whatever just wash your hands on the outside. That's fun. Then you go inside and there is a button that says do not push this and underneath it it says or do it whatever. 5 seconds later disco lights and music start playing it's much more fun if you turn off the regular light while enjoying this but beware it only lasts for approximately 20 or 30 seconds so you might find yourself on the potty in the dark like I did. Hi chuckled and hit the button two more times while I washed my hands. My friend and her kids will likely go back but as for me and my grands it was a first and last. Did I mention it's so loud you can't hear the person in front of you speak? Our waitress could only do one thing at the time. I was frustrated beyond belief. The decor is cool but I'd rather have a nice dinner in a heartbeat. My tab was $80 and I only paid for myself and a child. I only had 1 drink and it was still $80.
