I can't believe I haven't eaten here sooner since I've been in this area for 10 years now. First of all, this is a place that you SHOULD come in a dine if it's your first time. The atmosphere is definitely part of the whole experience. Right when you walk in, you can smell the fantastic aromas of authentic Mexican food being prepared all day long because you have to know that the food served here is not something that takes five minutes to prepare. Oh yea...I knew this was going to be a great meal and I was going to be rolling out of there stuffed. I pretty much wanted to order everything. The food is fantastic. Like so many other Yelpers, I had to have the birria taco special. It was on the Special's board and I'm always curious about what any restaurant is offering on that particular day if it's recommended in writing. Guess what? I was not disappointed. It really had so much flavor and I would order that one again next time. And don't you skip their elote. It's also legit! Who doesn't love corn on the cob on a stick covered with yummy sauce and Mexican cheese? NOTE: Birria \ bir-ē-ä \is a Mexican dish from the state of Jalisco. The dish is a meat stew or soup traditionally made from goat meat, but occasionally made from beef, lamb, mutton or chicken. The meat is marinated in an adobo made of vinegar, dried chiles, garlic, and herbs and spices before being cooked in a broth. I came for the tamales! Spoiler: no tamales. Apparently they lost their tamale chef and haven't had them in a while. So I ordered three tacos instead. My tacos were just okay. Not very flavorful, a little dry. Lacked the authenticity I was expecting based on some other reviews. La Perla is a small Mexican restaurant located in a small, nondescript shopping plaza. The inside is pretty humble, some cheap tables, a few television sets, some inexpensive pictures on the wall and in the corner a shrine to the Virgin Mary. What is also in this restaurantis smiling servers and people sitting at every table. I ordered two tacos, but chorizo taco and a carne asada taco. While I waited for my food I could not help but notice how great all the plates were looking that were brought out to the other tables. They also brought me chips and salsa. These were pretty good and a great start to a meal. When my tacos were brought out, I was impressed with the size of them. These were literally overflowing with meat. They were very competitively priced at three dollars for each taco. With the amount of meat they gave, this was a great bargain. Let me also add, after eating these tacos, not only were they a good bargain, but they were incredible. This was a fantastic lunch. Pricing overall here seems very good. As I said, it was three dollars for a taco, eight dollars for a burrito, threedollars for elote, etc. I think the most expensive thing on the menu was seventeen dollars. La Perla is clearly a secret to most!! I joined a Facebook group awhile back and everyone was posting about this Mexican Restaurant that serves Quesabirria tacos and of course I had to try them! The restaurant is located in a small complex on Lane and is easy to miss. But once you've arrived and are seated you'll be right at home. I ordered the Quesabirria tacos and they are stuffed with meat, cheese, onions and cilantro.. served with guacamole and sour cream and of course the birria. A hidden gem on the westside that clearly is not known by most! I stumbled upon the website looking for something new and close to home. Lo and behold I found La Perla less than 4 miles away...so we go....on a Friday night. Small place on Lane Ave in a small strip mall, blink and you will miss it. We walked in and to our amazement....they were full! Every table but 1, so we grabbed it. The atmosphere was happy, festive, and true. TV's on so you can watch sports, the conversations milling about the restaurant, and the smell of tasty food awaits. Here come the chips and salsa....yummy! We ordered Costilla De Puerco En Green Sauce (pork cubes with rice and beans drenched in green sauce....amazing!, and the Ground Beef Chile Relleno (stuffed chilis, rice and beans with red sauce. Between the chips, salsa, and our meals...we were stuffed to the gills and excited to come back again! ***2nd visit was the very next Friday to give it a whirl again....and had same great experience, great service, and great food. The food was AMAZINGLY . I ordered the Birria and an extra Consommé and they gave me an extra 2 Birria tacos to finish it all and extra limes without even having to ask or any extra charge. The staff was super friendly and quick on the cook and waitresses part. It was my first time EVER having Birria and Consommé and I have to say I will be going back there at least once every other week if not more often just for that meal. Prices were decent and the atmosphere was extremely authentic with good music and a great variety of drinks. 10/10 would recommend if you're on the west side of Jax! read more

So me and hubby ordered the Birria tacos ,carne asada,steak fries and corn on stick with a aqua de Jamaica. Let's go good to ___... the Birria tacos were delicious meat juicy even without the sauce, and man the corn on stick was the truth. Then the was the carne asada,it was dry and not a lot on herbs spices as something of that nature should burst with flovor, the steak fries were under cooked and the meat was also dry. I also ask for sour cream on side due to hubby dislike and we were sharing. Let's just say those went to the garbage.
