La Perla is a small Mexican restaurant located in a small, nondescript shopping plaza. The inside is pretty humble, some cheap tables, a few television sets, some inexpensive pictures on the wall and in the corner a shrine to the Virgin Mary. What is also in this restaurantis smiling servers and people sitting at every table. I ordered two tacos, but chorizo taco and a carne asada taco. While I waited for my food I could not help but notice how great all the plates were looking that were brought out to the other tables. They also brought me chips and salsa. These were pretty good and a great start to a meal. When my tacos were brought out, I was impressed with the size of them. These were literally overflowing with meat. They were very competitively priced at three dollars for each taco. With the amount of meat they gave, this was a great bargain. Let me also add, after eating these tacos, not only were they a good bargain, but they were incredible. This was a fantastic lunch. Pricing overall here seems very good. As I said, it was three dollars for a taco, eight dollars for a burrito, threedollars for elote, etc. I think the most expensive thing on the menu was seventeen dollars. La Perla in located in the South Lane Plaza on Lane Avenue in Jacksonville, Florida. If you find yourself in Jacksonville, I strongly recommend coming to check this place out.

La Perla is clearly a secret to most!! I joined a Facebook group awhile back and everyone was posting about this Mexican Restaurant that serves Quesabirria tacos and of course I had to try them! The restaurant is located in a small complex on Lane and is easy to miss. But once you've arrived and are seated you'll be right at home. I ordered the Quesabirria tacos and they are stuffed with meat, cheese, onions and cilantro.. served with guacamole and sour cream and of course the birria. The flavor is amazing and worth coming back for! Stop by and check them out.

The food for the price point was out of this world. Everything fresh and well prepared by the kitchen. Would I come back?? But of course a resounding hell yea!!!

Gave this place another shot and had a much better experience this time. Called and placed a to-go order for the Birria tacos, Pastor taco and a chicken quesadilla. I thought the Birria tacos are alright - The Pastor though! That was good. Got the quesadilla for my wife and she said the chicken tasted "off". Picking up the order was much quicker this time, actually the order was ready when I got there.

Best authentic Mexican Restaurant in all of Jacksonville and it's not close. This is the real deal, as authentic as you will find on the east coast. Best Chile relleno I've ever had. The street style tacos were incredible. I can't wait to become and regular of theirs and will be driving out of my way without hesitation for this hidden gem. It's a hole in the wall indeed but a hidden gem with authentic Mexican that will not disappoint.

A hidden gem on the westside that clearly is not known by most! I stumbled upon the website looking for something new and close to home. Lo and behold I found La Perla less than 4 miles away...so we go....on a Friday night. Small place on Lane Ave in a small strip mall, blink and you will miss it. We walked in and to our amazement....they were full! Every table but 1, so we grabbed it. The atmosphere was happy, festive, and true. TV's on so you can watch sports, the conversations milling about the restaurant, and the smell of tasty food awaits. Here come the chips and salsa....yummy! We ordered Costilla De Puerco En Green Sauce (pork cubes with rice and beans drenched in green sauce....amazing!, and the Ground Beef Chile Relleno (stuffed chilis, rice and beans with red sauce. Between the chips, salsa, and our meals...we were stuffed to the gills and excited to come back again! ***2nd visit was the very next Friday to give it a whirl again....and had same great experience, great service, and great food. This time we ordered the Pastor - Marinated Pork Quesadilla and 2 tacos: chorizo and carne asada. Again we had the most delicious meal, and can't wait to go back again!

Man, it was one of the best decisions I've made on the road lately! The food came out hot and fresh with that real homemade taste. The tacos were packed with flavor, the rice and beans were on point, and the portions were generous enough to fill up a hungry driver without breaking the bank. I went with the carne asada and it hit the spot perfectly - seasoned just right, not too greasy, and cooked tender. Service was quick and friendly, even when they were busy. The place has that classic hole-in-the-wall vibe (in the best way), nothing fancy but clean and welcoming. It felt like the kind of authentic spot locals would keep coming back to. Only reason it's not 5 stars is the parking can be a little tight for a big rig if you're not careful, and they don't have a ton of truck-friendly seating space. But the food more than makes up for it. If you're rolling through the area and craving real Mexican food, definitely stop in. I'll be back next time I'm in the neighborhood. ¡Muy bueno! -- Carlos, SemiTruckDriver

Service at the bar was great. Food arrived faster than expected, but I had also got there as their night was winding down. My friends and I were originally going to eat here for Cinco de Mayo, but when I got there at 6:45, I was told it would be a 3.5 hour wait. They had a DJ outside pumping out fast and upbeat music for the party and an outside margarita stand for grab and go drinks. When I arrived back just after 9, I had told them to take us off the list. She informed me that they tried calling me. Nothing came through on my phone, but she did show her call log and sure enough, it showed they called me around 8:20. My friends and I probably would have stayed to eat here originally had we been given a more realistic wait time guesstimate. An hour and a half wait vs 3.5 hours is much more feasible. Oh well. I'm sure I'll be back in the future. I've always enjoyed Anejo.

So overall, the food was decent but a bit salty, and the flavor didn't really stand out. To me it had more of a chain restaurant feel, kind of like something you'd get at Chili's rather than a more authentic Mexican spot. Drinks were mixed for us. My wife had margaritas and enjoyed them, honestly I don't think she's ever met a margarita she didn't like. I tried the Old Fashioned, which just wasn't my style. It tasted more like Fireball on the rocks than a traditional Old Fashioned. One thing they definitely did right was the service. Even though the restaurant was crowded, the wait staff was friendly, attentive, and stayed on top of everything the whole time. Overall, it's a cool spot with a fun vibe and good staff. The floors were sticky and our shoes stuck to the floor. The women's restroom was out of order. The kiosks seem like a good idea but nobody there to ask questions or to get your drinks. If you can catch one of the two people working as they bring out orders you are lucky. The menus on the kiosks are pretty informative though and tell the ingredients for each item. Kiosk automatically adds 20% tip unless you change it. Considering you don't have any interaction with employees until they bring out your order other tipping options might apply. They cook to order which is nice except you don't get your drinks or your appetizers until it's your turn. There is a comment section to type no tomatoes or special instructions. Mine still came out with tomatoes but they promptly remade it for me. The food is pretty good. No complaints there other than having to remake one of my tacos. The chips and queso was pretty good. Chips were dusted with spices and served hot. We tried 6 different tacos and they were all very good. The tortillas were toasted on the grill which makes a big difference. You can get flour or corn tortillas. The chicken and steak were marinated before grilling and were big cubes and plentiful. The menu has a pretty big variety including a kids menu with chicken and fries. The last comment is their fountain machine for drinks. The coke tasted off. They may need to recalibrate it. Drinks are served in small clear throw away cups and the lids don't fit very well. Refills are hard to get. You have to wait for someone to come out of the back. If these small complaints don't bother you the food is very good.
