Burrito Bowl with carne asada meat. My husband loved it!
    Shannon M.

Needed a nice quiet place for dinner last night. We had been here a few months ago and decided this was the place. What a delicious dinner we had. My husband had a delicious burrito bowl and I had a Mexican Shrimp Cocktail that was the best I have ever had. The broth was so delicious, I just wanted to pick up the goblet and drink it. Everything was so fresh. I had enough to take home for lunch. Only one waiter, but he was right on top of everyone's order. Never has to wait for anything. We will definitely be coming back again soon.

Everything was outstanding about this place. The fresh tortillas were amazing and everything we ordered was excellent. Service was very fast and friendly. We will definitely be back.

This is a wonderful restaurant to enjoy some authentic Mexican food. It has a relaxed and casual vibe. We went during the week and the service was great. I have to say that they have this green avocado salsa that is absolutely phenomenal. I would buy that if it was bottled. I enjoyed some green chili chicken enchiladas with some beans. The sauce on the enchiladas was delicious. A friend ordered the empanadas de Camaron and he loved it. It was delicious and not greasy at all. He said it was full of flavor. My husband got the Shrimp Al Mojo de Ajo. He loved it with the rice and beans. We enjoyed their tasty margaritas and everything tasted fresh too. We will definitely be coming back here.

    Watery Chile Relleno :/

I live by the motto that you can tell a good Mexican restaurant by it's Chile Relleno, and unfortunately this fell short. While flavorful, the sauce is practically water with how runny it is, and the whole thing is soggy (which means the texture is wrong). They fixed my cold rice and beans, but couldn't fix the Chile Relleno. The servers are friendly and tried to help, but I was overall unimpressed with my food (my brother liked his shrimp though).

The molcajete was too soupy for me. Eating the crab leg was a huge messy challenge!!! The chips were good . The service was good.

Surprisingly a good Mexican place near the downtown. We tried couple of higher rated Mexican places nearby but this is our favorite so far. Spacious inside, I can tell this place has live music and dance floor some of the nights. Disco balls hanging from the ceiling :) I enjoyed 3 kinds of tacos - shrimp, asada, pork verde) and they were all so plump, flavorful and tasty. My husband had shrimp burritos and shrimp were dropping out of the burrito as there are so many. There were 3 kinds of hot sauce on the table and they brought 2 freshly made hot sauces, which were all delicious. I'd rather want to add some hot sauce myself as I like, rather than loaded with jalapeños (super spicy) and no taste.

Best ceviche in paso, I don't make the rules and staff is so nice too. it says I need 85 word to leave review so ignore extra words.

She recommended sitting at the bar, so we did just that, and it was such a good choice. It was really fun to watch them cook and get to chat with the owner while he did so. We asked the owner what he recommended, and the calamari appetizer was his highlight. We started with that, and it was great. While everything else in the meal was also really good, this was the highlight and I'd absolutely get it again and again. For mains we got the scallop and scampi pasta over pasta and the trio fish plate special. Narrowing it down to these two wasn't easy since everything on the menu sounded good. I would get both items again, but will probably get something else next time just to try more of the menu. We came in right as they opened on a weekday evening, so we had the place to ourselves to start. It did start to fill in fairly quickly, so I would imagine it gets crowded on weekends.

But all of the fish dishes came with the same two sides and neither sounded good to me. I think it was green beans and some kind of tater. Eh... They need to catch some new sides! I thought the seafood pasta would be a good choice! It was loaded with all kinds of good bits... clams, shrimp, mussels, calamari and maybe a few other little fishies. The problem was ALL of the seafood was overcooked beyond belief. It was really ruined because of that. The bar area was packed, so they're doing something right, but this place just wasn't for me. There are plenty of other places around the area. They also didn't have a bar! I wanted a cocktail after a day of wine sampling and NOT more wine. I left disappointed for multiple reasons (selection, quality, drink options). The bread was good, so there's that...

The restaurant is right in the heart of downtown Paso Robles, making it an easy stop if you're exploring the area. We had reservations through OpenTable and arrived a little early. They seated us within a few minutes, and although outdoor seating was available, it was around 97°, so we were happy to wait for an indoor table. The inside has a really cool Spanish hacienda vibe with rustic wood beams, warm lighting, and plenty of unique décor to take in. It's a fun space with lots of character and is connected in the back to the tiki bar next door, making it easy to continue the evening with a drink. The atmosphere was lively without being overly loud, and we really enjoyed the classic '80s music playing softly in the background. The oysters were fresh and very good. My wife ordered the ceviche and enjoyed it. I had the hanger steak salad--it was decent, but I'd probably skip the beets next time and order something different. Overall, the food was good, but it didn't quite rise to the level of "great." Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Overall, Fish Gaucho is worth a visit for its downtown location, unique Spanish-inspired atmosphere, and solid food. While there are probably stronger culinary options in Paso Robles, we'd happily come back to enjoy the ambiance, check out the connected tiki bar, and sample a few different menu items.

We arrived on time and stood at the entrance for about 7 minutes with zero acknowledgment. Servers and bussers walked right past us, no one said a word. When the hostess finally showed up, there was no apology, just a question about our reservation. She said our table was "almost ready" since the current guests had paid, but then refused to seat us at either of two open 4 tops, saying she wanted to save them for larger parties, even though at least four other 4 tops around the room already had just two people seated at them. She offered us a drink while we waited "a few minutes." Fifteen minutes later, still no table and no drinks provided, while guests with later reservations were seated ahead of us. When we asked again, her story changed: now the original table hadn't actually paid yet. By this point it had been 25 minutes past our reservation, so we finally confronted her directly and pointed out the empty 4 tops with only two people at them. Her explanation was that those parties had reservations, and I reminded her that we had a reservation too. She reluctantly seated us after that, with no apology or acknowledgement. What made it even more frustrating was watching her, later in the evening, seat other parties of two at 4 tops without any hesitation at all. There was never any acknowledgment of the wait or any reason given for why the rules seemed to apply differently to us. It's a shame, because the food and Yuki's service were excellent and deserved a five star night. But the disorganized, inconsistent hosting at the door made the first half hour of my birthday dinner stressful instead of special. Ask for Yuki if you go, just brace yourself at the door.

The restaurant itself is gorgeous, with thoughtful decor and a warm, inviting atmosphere (something I always pay attention to). Service was excellent--attentive without being overbearing.
