So delicious, excellent service and great location in downtown Paso. We visited with a group of 6 ladies with reservations and our server was attentive throughout our experience, making sure our drinks were full and our food delivered successfully and quickly. Everything we ordered was really outstanding and it's not surprising given they make their pasta in house. Highlights from our meals included Pappardelle Al Cinghiale - homemade pappardelle with wild boar ragu and Aragosta - lobster tagliolini, Mighty Cap Mushrooms in a light champagne cream sauce. We found out Il Cortile is loved by the locals, so you know it's a solid choice for visitors. A must try for lovers of fresh pasta in Paso. read more

We came here for my birthday dinner with a 7:15 reservation, and while the food and our server Yuki were genuinely great, the hostess experience was so frustrating it colored the entire evening. We arrived on time and stood at the entrance for about 7 minutes with zero acknowledgment. Servers and bussers walked right past us, no one said a word. When the hostess finally showed up, there was no apology, just a question about our reservation. She said our table was "almost ready" since the current guests had paid, but then refused to seat us at either of two open 4 tops, saying she wanted to save them for larger parties, even though at least four other 4 tops around the room already had just two people seated at them. She offered us a drink while we waited "a few minutes." Fifteen minutes later, still no table and no drinks provided, while guests with later reservations were seated ahead of us. When we asked again, her story changed: now the original table hadn't actually paid yet. By this point it had been 25 minutes past our reservation, so we finally confronted her directly and pointed out the empty 4 tops with only two people at them. Her explanation was that those parties had reservations, and I reminded her that we had a reservation too. She reluctantly seated us after that, with no apology or acknowledgement. What made it even more frustrating was watching her, later in the evening, seat other parties of two at 4 tops without any hesitation at all. There was never any acknowledgment of the wait or any reason given for why the rules seemed to apply differently to us. It's a shame, because the food and Yuki's service were excellent and deserved a five star night. But the disorganized, inconsistent hosting at the door made the first half hour of my birthday dinner stressful instead of special. Ask for Yuki if you go, just brace yourself at the door. read more

Our last dinner in Paso at 9 pm on Saturday (tbf, it was the 4th of July and we ate lunch at 2)! It was surprisingly still pretty crowded. We got there maybe a few minutes before 9 and our table wasn't ready yet, but there wasn't really a place to wait in the restaurant so we waited 1 door down. After about 10 minutes, our table was ready. We ordered wine to start, which was great. I got a local white and it was delicious and very crisp. We were also provided with complimentary bread, which was very good. For my main, I ordered the Spaghetti alla bottarga. I appreciated that all of the fish was shelled but some it was a little on the fishy side. Despite all of the pasta we ate, we decided to get a dessert to share. Truffle risotto was the special of the day and it was my favorite kind of risotto, so naturally I was thrilled. It did not disappoint. Portion size was perfect too, not so much that you're stuffed but enough that you actually feel satisfied. Service was flawless. Our server rattled off this massive list of specials completely from memory and it was honestly impressive. Only downside was our reservation put us on the outdoor patio and it was a little chilly for my taste, so I was a bit bummed we weren't seated inside. Celebrating a 5-year anniversary, I decided not to cook a nice 3-4 course meal and instead looked around town for dining options. It came down to three local restaurants, and Il Cortile won out based on location and the type of cuisine offered. I made reservations a week ahead of time to ensure we'd have a table. I did ask for an inside table, but we were seated outside in the courtyard -- which, as it turned out, we actually preferred. Inside was quite cool; mind you, it was still in the 80s when we walked to our 6:30pm reservation. We were greeted and promptly seated right outside the front door, and the patio area was lovely -- much quieter than what we saw and heard inside. Our server greeted us, and we ordered a round of drinks as a small loaf of crusty bread was served with an olive oil and balsamic dipping sauce. Our drinks arrived and we were ready to order. For antipasti, we chose the Caprese Salad and Carpaccio di Tartufo. For primi, we went with the daily sea bass special and Agnolotti di Mais. The presentation on all the food was excellent. The salad was super fresh, with wonderfully flavorful tomatoes. The carpaccio was thinly sliced, with a nice sauce and shaved truffle. When the sea bass arrived at the table, it looked dry to me, but the inside was quite moist and full of flavor. The agnolotti was rich, with a great use of sweet corn, truffle, and pecorino Romano. All in all, a wonderful dining experience. We ordered cannoli to go before settling up the bill and heading out. Would love to return at some point. read more

This place has easily become our second home in Paso Robles. We try to make it in every time we're in the area. Huge shoutout to Emily and Ivan, they take care of us every single visit and make the whole experience feel personal. I always start with the scallops. It's something I look forward to even before I set a reservation. The specials are consistently insane and we try to order them whenever we can, but the standard menu holds its own just as well. Everything we've had has been excellent and the consistency is what keeps us coming back. The ambiance is also a big part of why we love it. Il Cortile is an authentic Italian restaurant that serves seasonal scrumptious dishes. We started off with a bubbly and crisp Prosecco. We adored the decadent cheesy polenta with a perfectly poached egg and " in season " white truffle shavings; soooo delicious! The Osso Bucco is a show stopper; classic Italian braised lamb shank over creamy risotto and a side of broccoli and cauliflower, which complemented the dish... my date and I shared everything, the servings are ample enough. One of our favorite fine-dining restaurants in Paso Robles, Il Cortile never fails to impress. The staff, service, and food are all top-notch. I can't begin to tell you how many times we've been here, even during the "Covid days" when dining was moved into the courtyard of the Piccolo Hotel next door. We've stopped in for dinner on several trips this year and have been fortunate to have Nataly wait on us each time, and we'll request her again on our upcoming trip. They have a full bar and make some amazing cocktails. I usually start with an Old Fashioned and my wife will have a glass of wine. The wine list is made up of primarily local wineries, but there's other areas (foreign and domestic) sprinkled in. Corkage fee is $40 with a two-bottle limit per table. One of my favorite tables is the one just outside the kitchen passthrough window. I enjoy the wait staff bringing all the wonderfully prepared dishes by so we can get a front row look at everything. The kitchen staff hustles, and we've never had anything that we didn't love. Some of our favorites are the Fanny Bay Oysters (sold individually), Capesante (seared scallops) and Carpaccio di Tartufo appetizers. They usually have fantastic daily specials like a Pork Osso Bucco with Parmesan Risotto, or a Half Lobster (1-1/2 pounds) with a white wine tomato sauce, as well as all their standard menu items. The portions are generous and quite delicious! Finally, splurge and finish off your meal with one of their fabulous desserts and maybe a glass of Bushong "Sweet Illusions" cream sherry, or Glunz Mission Angelica Solera. Menzamenz (half & half) (Italian slang): Wife and I made a reservation for our Friday night date. Restaurant was packed with patrons in a very short time. It's quiet and comfortable inside. It was definitely upscale and I was able to easily park on the street. The bread they brought to the table was served with a type of spread. The waiter said they were out of olive oil tonight. We had to ask for butter. An extra basket of bread costs $5. and we had to wait for it! Our dinner was nearly done when they brought the second basket of bread to the table. We asked for options for our 5 year old and asked if we could just do fettuccine with olive oil plain but it came COVERED in parsley which my daughter did NOT want to eat....and the waiter never came by to check if things were ok...at least not until we were basically done with our meal ... we had to order extra bread just so my daughter would have something to eat and even that they charged us $5 for it...wtf.... Finally, the dining experience we've been searching for and dreaming of! So many restaurants in Paso have been so hyped up to us that they end up falling short, but that was not the case with Il Cortile! We made a reservation, which seems to be a must here because it was jam packed when we arrived. I don't think there was an open seat in the house. Our server Jason was attentive and gave great recommendations. We started with some oysters that were a special for the day and scallops. The scallops were cooked perfectly and served alongside three really delicious sauces. For entrees two of us shared the Pappardelle al cinghiale and Ossobuco, as it had been recommended by multiple people. We had a very disappointing experience at Il Cortile Ristorante. We had made a reservation weeks in advance for 8:45 PM for July 3rd, 2026 and we arrived on time. Instead of being seated, we were told to come back in 20 minutes. When we returned, we were then told it would be another 25 minutes. At that point, it became clear that the reservation system meant very little. What made the situation worse was the lack of any proper waiting area. There was no lobby, no comfortable place to stand, and no bar seating available while guests waited. The dining room also looked extremely crowded, with tables placed very close together, which did not create a relaxing or upscale dining atmosphere. The front-desk experience was also poor. The host seemed very young and inexperienced, and there was little sense of professionalism, apology, or customer service. When a restaurant is running that far behind, especially for guests with a reservation, the staff should be trained to communicate clearly, apologize properly, and offer some kind of solution. For a restaurant that presents itself as a nice Paso Robles dining destination, the experience felt disorganized, overcrowded, and poorly managed. Making a reservation weeks ahead should mean something. Instead, we were left waiting with no real hospitality and no confidence that we would be seated anytime soon. Unfortunately, we left very disappointed. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Il Cortile Ristorante, especially if you are planning a special dinner, visiting from out of town, or relying on a reservation. read more

Il Cortile Ristorante: A Great Place for an Anniversary We recently had the pleasure of celebrating our anniversary at Il Cortile Ristorante in Paso Robles, and it turned out to be a wonderful choice for the occasion. We started with the mushroom salad, followed by homemade pappardelle with wild boar ragù. Both were delicious, and the pasta was especially well prepared. The standout of the evening, however, was the beef tenderloin with Parmesan and black truffles. The beef was tender and flavorful, and the truffles added just the right touch. We finished with cannoli, which was a delicious way to end the meal. The service was excellent throughout the evening. Everyone was attentive and friendly without hovering, and the pacing of the meal was just right. We also enjoyed a very good bottle of wine that paired nicely with the food. There really wasn't anything to dislike. Il Cortile has the kind of relaxed, comfortable atmosphere that makes it easy to settle in, enjoy a good meal, and spend time together. For an anniversary or any special occasion, it is a great choice. Reservations were for a NYE dinner. As we walked in, we immediately knew what type of place we stepped into. Multiple staff members passed by us and/or made eye contact without smiling, greeting, or at least saying 'someone will be right with you". We were seated fine. Our server was nice, average. We order red wine and a lemon drop for drinks, my boyfriend enjoyed the wine selection and the lemon drop was tasty. We started off with the melanzane sformate, which was a knockout and highlight of the entire meal. Very delicious For our mains we ordered the bistecca. It was a solid, good quality steak with a few below average root vegetable pieces. Not a memorable steak entree. As well as the vitello ai funghi porcini which again not memorable at all. Lastly we ordered the spaghetti's alla bottarga which is a simple dish, but lacked any flavor at all. I'm from NYC. I'm pretty critical about quality Italian food. This literally is the best Italian restaurant I've been to in California. But when I say I'd pick it over a whole bunch of other NYC Italian restaurants that's saying something. I had seared scallops for an appetizer. Then pasta Al Salsiccia with fresh papperdelle that was amazing. Homemade cannolis for dessert. Come on! Cannoli's in CA? What can I say, they just rate!! Definitely go. Il Cortile came up on several platforms as a top restaurant in Paso Robles downtown and the menu looked delicious! Unfortunately, I thought this restaurant was a little disappointing for me personally. I should start off by saying that the scallops were some of the best I've had at a restaurant. They were seared perfectly on the outside and cut like butter. The different sauces balanced the sweet / salty profile very well! However, the octopus was mediocre. The dish lacked flavor and the octopus was still chewy. The pastas were also only OK. My boyfriend got the wild boar ragu and to be honest, the dish just tasted like Hamburger Helper. I ordered the shrimp and clam dish, and while the shrimp and clams tasted good, the dish had an overwhelmingly fishy taste to it. I understand it's a seafood pasta, but it overpowered the butter and other seasonings (and I normally like fishy)! This was so close to a 5 that I need to give it one, especially considering that I've recently rated other Italian restaurants as 4s and yet Il Cortile blew them away. I know I'm a hard critic. I rate places I really love as 4s unless they're absolutely unforgettable. I don't know at this moment if Il Cortile will be unforgettable in the long run -- but it was pretty amazing tonight. We loved everything-- the romantic decor, our sweet and skilled server who seemed genuinely interested in what we wanted to experience, and, most of all, the delicious food. On the negative side, the noise level was a bit too high and the tables were a bit too close together to actually create a truly "romantic" atmosphere. With that said, it was still lovely and my husband and I didn't need to shout to hear each other. It's just that we could hear conversations among other tables as well. All the food was amazing. I would say that the Crostini Con Burrata is not to be missed, and I'd recommend the Branzino as something delicious and satisfying that still feels light and healthy. On the other end of the spectrum, I'd totally recommend the cannolis as decadent but worth it if you're visiting from out-of-town as we were. read more

So i would rate this place a 5 but they were out of a lot of their hard alcohol brands. For a full service restaurant that part was lacking. They do have a phenomenal wine list though. So wine is the way to go here for sure. The service was also a little slower than I would like but they were busy so I will be forgiving on that. They have a cute outdoor patio to enjoy dinner on with shade which is perfect for summer. We opted for the patio. We got the stuffed squash blossoms. They were super yummy and creamy. These are a must get. We also got the branzino. The crisp skin on the outside and the soft and flakes fish was so good. Then we got the Pappardelle al cinghiale. Made a reservation to celebrate my sisters 21st birthday while in Paso Robles. There's only street parking which can be difficult. The actual restaurant is quite small so best to make reservations in advance. The ambiance is dim and warm, not too loud which is good for special gatherings. We ordered the following items: 1. Capesante - 10/10 This was the best scallops I've ever had. They melted in my mouth (literally) and the sauces complemented the seafood so well. It was perfectly seared and didn't taste too fishy or rough. Only con is that the dish only came with three scallops so to add another one, it was $5 each... definitely pricey. 2. Grilled octopus - 4/10 This was disappointing. Despite the beautiful and elegant plating, the octopus itself was hard and chewy. This didn't taste good and is a waste of $23 for such a small amount. 3. Pappardelle Al cinghiale - 6/10 I didn't think much about this dish as it just tasted like normal pasta cooked with beef sauce. The meat was good and the pasta texture was aldente. 4. Pork chop with risotto - 5/10 This tasted just like what my grandma makes when there's leftover pork that's been simmered in soup for a while. Nothing too special and the sauce overpowered it. The risotto was also too heavy and salty, not a huge fan. Il Cortile was recommended to us by a local winery which we enjoy so we thought we would give it a try. The location was nice, and we were greeted warmly by the hostess. We sat outside in the lovely patio. Our server was great; attentive, helpful, charming. Everything was great until our food arrived. My husband ordered the filet minion prepared medium, and was quickly disappointed when he made the first cut. It was over cooked and tough. The sauce was bland so that didn't help either. I ordered one of the specials that night; Chilean sea bass, it was delicious, which is why we rated this 3 stars, and also because of the good service. I've been to Il Cortile before, but this last visit with a slightly bigger group was just as amazing, if not better. We were taken care of so well from start to finish. This place is on the smaller side, so if you're planning to come here for the first time, I highly recommend making a reservation. It's intimate, cozy, and the kind of spot where every detail matters. We started off with the fiori di zucca fritti, which I had never tried before and loved, super flavorful and such a fun way to start. For mains, I had the Bistecca, a beautiful rib eye that was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. Someone at our table ordered the lobster pasta, and not only did it taste amazing, but the presentation was gorgeous. I had to get the black truffle risotto again because I loved it last time, and wow, it was just as creamy, rich, and delicious as I remembered. I also got to try the spinach and ricotta gnocchi with gorgonzola dolce and Mighty Cap mushrooms, and that dish was so creamy, flavorful, and comforting. To top it all off, I had their tiramisu, and it was seriously one of the best I've ever had, light, rich, and just freaken good. If you love Italian food, Il Cortile is a must. Unfortunately we were not given the opportunity to dine here. I showed up yesterday for dinner with a party of six. We were there about 10 minutes before they opened. There were 3 other couples waiting as well. The place was recommended to us. No reservations needed. Yet when I approached the 2 hostess at the front, I was not greeted, I was not asked if I had a reservation, nor how many people in my party, I was told they could not accommodate me. I found this quite odd. I then asked if they had a table for 6. No eye contact from either hostess. Very offhandedly "no". I looked around the restaurant and asked again, and even though the restaurant was half empty, I again was told no. Very disappointed and disheartened by the 2 hostess tending the front end here. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel completely welcome. The atmosphere was inviting, and the service was top-notch. We started with their bread and oil--absolutely amazing. For our entrees, my husband ordered the rack of lamb and I had the lobster pasta. Both dishes were perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. Our waitress was very attentive and gave great recommendations. It was a rainy day and we were nervous since there were only reservations available in the outdoor area but it was all enclosed and very well put together. Never again! Went here with three friends on Friday May 8th. Everything was going good until toward the end of our dinner the bleach blonde male manager rudely came to our table and aggressively told us to lower the volume at our table immediately. At first we were taken aback and after we had some time to realize how uncomfortable he made us feel we canceled our desert paid the bill and left without further incident. Mind you at the table directly behind us there was a young couple French kissing and we're told nothing but apparently we more being more distracting. We had an incredible dinner at Il Cortile Ristorante during our visit to Paso Robles and would absolutely return the next time we're in town. From start to finish, every dish was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. Here's how our meal went: ANTIPASTI Grilled Octopus ($23) - 5/5 Amazing starter! The octopus was grilled to tender perfection, paired with fresh vegetables and a spicy vinaigrette that brought everything together beautifully. Caprese ($23) - 5/5 A refreshing combination of fresh tomatoes, Bufala mozzarella, basil, pesto, and a drizzle of balsamic. The green sauce was so good we ended up dipping our bread in it until the plate was clean. Friendly tip: they do charge an extra $5 for more bread, but it was fresh and absolutely worth it. PRIMI (homemade pastas) Pappardelle al Cinghiale ($33) - 5/5 One of the best pastas we've had--hearty, savory wild boar ragu with perfectly textured pappardelle. The portion was generous and comforting. Pasta Fava ($30) - 3.5/5 A lighter spaghetti dish with fava beans, pancetta, lemon, and cream. It had a subtle, plain flavor profile that might appeal to those who prefer simpler dishes, but it was the least memorable out of the four mains we ordered. Aragosta Tagliolini ($35) - 4.5/5 The lobster and Mighty Cap mushrooms were excellent--fresh and flavorful. The only minor complaint was that we wished it had just a bit more champagne cream sauce to coat the pasta more evenly. Special: Sea Bass with Seasonal Vegetables ($45) - 5/5 Hands down the standout dish of the evening. The sea bass was flaky, buttery, and perfectly seasoned, paired with light, non-overpowering vegetables. Elegant, simple, and done right. DESSERT Tiramisu ($14) - 5/5 As tiramisu fans, we were thrilled. Creamy, balanced, and classic--just how it should be. Berry Tart ($14) - 4/5 Fresh, vibrant berries atop a crisp tart crust. A nice, lighter way to end the meal. AMBIANCE & SERVICE We sat indoors, which had a romantic, dimly lit vibe--perfect for a relaxing evening. The restaurant is on the smaller side, seating around 40 indoors and a bit more outdoors. We made a reservation for a Sunday night and were seated promptly. Parking wasn't too bad--we found street parking around 5:30 PM. Shoutout to Ivan for the solid recommendations that really helped us pick some standout dishes for the night--thank you! Another great dinner! Owner is at the front desk with a welcoming smile and remembered my name. Bread came hot from the oven with a delicate crust on the outside and soft on the inside. Crystal made two excellent raspberry mocktails. Chef's pasta was so tender and flavorful, just delicious! Jason gave me great service from the beginning of the meal all the way theough to the end.
