I discovered a beehive in the water meter box at the front of my property and posted about it on Beeswarmed. Within minutes, I received a text from Gio. He was super responsive and originally said he could come the next day--but then followed up to say his schedule opened up and he could come the same day. Total win! Gio removed the entire hive safely and sealed up the water meter box. He told me he donates the hives to a local aviary, which I really appreciate--it's important to protecting our honeybee populations. The next day, a swarm of bees returned around the old hive location, which Gio prepared me for. Gio came back the following day and cleared the remaining stragglers. All in all, the issue was fully resolved within three days of my initial contact! He was polite, efficient, and also respectful in coordinating with my tenants. I had an extremely bad experience with 818 Bee Rescue and the owner, Gio. From the beginning, the entire process was unprofessional and stressful. What was supposed to be a simple bee removal turned into a constant demand for more money. Gio kept asking for more and more payment as the job went on. In the end, I paid almost five times more than the original amount quoted. Despite taking all that money, the job was left unfinished, and the bees were not properly removed. The problem continued shortly after. When I questioned the excessive charges and unfinished work, Gio was dismissive and took no responsibility. Communication was poor, and there was no effort to make things right. This experience was a complete waste of time and money. Gio quickly came to the rescue and was able to successfully remove out on quite a bit of honeycomb that had been building up unnoticed. He had mentioned that eventually he would be coming back to check up on the remains after a few days free of charge. Also given the honeybees were closer to the fireplace he also mentioned for a smaller additional cost that he would be able to take care of that concern as well. Easy to work with and anyone having to deal with honeybees or hornets / wasps I have no doubt that Gio can and will come to the rescue. The SF San Fernando valley is lucky to have him here. My neighbor called Gio on a recent Sunday because she had a hive right outside her kitchen door. He was able to come right away and took the hive and bees to a local beekeeper. Two days later, I had a hive in my yard so on her recommendation I called Gio. He came the next day and took away the hive and bees. Just as he was leaving, he noticed another hive in the other tree. He came back a few days later and handled that issue. He came back again after I called him to say that it looked like bees were forming another hive in the same tree. This experience with Gio quickly turned concerning. First, he asked for payment upfront before even assessing the beehive (RED FLAG #1). Then, he requested that we purchase a mask for him (RED FLAG #2). How does a beekeeper not have basic protective gear, and why would he ask his clients to cover that cost? The following day, he returned with the mask, but no body suit--despite having insisted that he needed full protective gear. He then removed the hive in less than 10 minutes. He also claimed to have applied a spray to prevent the bees from returning, but some bees were still lingering, which he casually dismissed, saying they would eventually leave. A few days later, we noticed a second, much larger hive in the same location. When we mentioned this to him, he claimed that removing the new hive wasn't included in the original service. Overall, the experience was unprofessional, untrustworthy, and upsetting. Do yourself a favor--look elsewhere for a reliable, professional beekeeper. I contacted Giovanni Asturias and he came within 24 hours and removed the hive "humanely" - spent about 2.5 hours here doing so and sealed the opening in the tree without having to kill the tree or remove it! so all lives matter!! lol. Bees and trees! He relocated the hive to Santa Clarita where they can benefit our pollination of our the flora and food supply vs being eradicated. He explained everything up front and what he was going to do. Yes, I paid up front, but he did what he said he would AND as one of the other referrals wanted $375 JUST FOR A CONSULTATION. I don't know about you, but my termite inspector charges $125 to do an entire inspection for escrow and goes under the house and in the attic - on top of checking for leaky shower pans amongst a myriad of " a other infestations. so that "seemed a bit high $$. · UPDATE: 5/28/25. Noticed some "remnant" bees still hanging around. Turns out they were entering from another location also within the tree. I hired Gio after finding him on Yelp and was impressed by his fast response. However, my experience was frustrating from the start. I paid $300 upfront for the bee removal, but Gio insisted on inspecting for pesticides before proceeding. Despite repeatedly explaining that no pesticides were used, he insisted on protective gear, even asking me to buy him a face mask. After more delays, he finally showed up with a mask the following day (but no body suit, as promised) and removed the hive in under 10 minutes. A few days later -literally 3, a second, larger hive appeared in the same spot. When I reached out and asked for him to remove it, he claimed it wasn't included and that he would not be back until after the holidays. I felt his focus on pesticides and lack of proper equipment were excuses to avoid doing the work to REMOVE THE BEES. Overall, unprofessional and disappointing--would not recommend. read more

We contacted Gio when we had a hive taken up under our shed. I wasn't interested in pest control and really wanted someone who was going to rescue the bees and take them into apiary. I asked him where he took the bees; he said he took them in a box to his prosperity, which I understood him to be a beekeeper. I shared with him how important it was for me that the bees be taken care of. He let me know it would be $250 to come onto my property to take a look. When he was here, my husband was a bit suspicious as my mother-in-law is a beekeeper, and it didn't feel like he was. Anyway, long story short, when I asked if I could see how the bees were handled, he got a bit defensive and said he put them on his property. Still, it was up to the bees to take care of themselves and if I wanted to come and see for myself, he gave me an estimate of $912 to do the work (so an additional $662) I decided to call the Bee Keepers Association to see if they had heard of him. They had not, and one of the beekeepers on their list gave me a quote of $400 over the phone and knew exactly where the bees were in my shed and how they got in. He was horrified when he found out I paid for someone to come and see something that always happens. If you care about bees, look for a bee keeper, this guy is not that. read more
