We were having the floor of our garage resurfaced and decided to have the garage door inspected during the process while it was empty. We had a new garage door installed about 10 years ago by another company and the Husband said it had been making a grinding noise for quite a while so we called and made an appointment for a "Winter Tune Up." Unbeknownst to us, after a thorough visual inspection for signs of wear, corrosion, loosened hardware, or improper operation, the technician claimed our garage door was not installed correctly in the first place. He commenced to apply a garage door lubricant to appropriate moving components, tighten hardware, adjust the alignment and test system balance for smooth operation. Because our garage is used as a woodturning shop -and wood dust is very bad for garage door's moving parts- he suggested a dust seal which can help prevent gears from stripping or burning out the motor. I have worked with many contractors over the years. Most are good and a few not so good. There is a third category which I call Rock Stars. Brian of All About Doors fits into that category. This was easily one of the best experiences I have had when dealing with a project at my house. All About Doors is a small business local to the area. They are responsive and easy to work with. The part of this that really impressed me with the installer, Brian. He is very knowledgeable when it comes to overhead doors. My garage door has been a bit strange since I bought my house in that it would jump and bang when you opened it up. When Brian came over, he knew exactly what was causing that and how to fix it. The old door operator was starting to go and would randomly open. Obviously, this is not a good idea for security and finally when it did that during the night it set off the alarm. It was time to replace the system and we bought a new one from Home Depot. All About Doors is a contracted installer for Home Depot and that's how I ended up working with them. When the door was diagnosed the issue that was causing it to jump and bang was fixed. We needed to replace weather stripping, and this was done at a very good price and without any feeling of being upsold to. Brian went on the completely service the door at no additional cost. It now works better than it ever has before and with the new opener is quiet and easy to use. The installation itself is also very professional in that all the wiring is clean and everything looks new. Where the old control was you can't even tell it had been changed. The technician, Chris, later called to confirm he'd be at the house within 15 minutes. On-time, appropriately dressed, very polite, and very knowledgeable. He looked over the issue, explained it, and then fixed the problem within about 30 minutes (bracket holding the guideline to the wall had snapped. He swapped out the broken anchor bracket, reattached the guideline, greased the chain and tested several times to ensure I was satisfied with the work. They charged a very reasonable service fee given it was on-time same day service. I will definitely do business with them again if the need ever arises. I highly recommend them. read more

When the repairman came by, he immediately said the one I purchased wouldn't work since I would need a custom one. I asked about repair but he immediately tried to sell me on purchasing a wall-mounted opener which is definitely not advised for residential and also would cost me $700 for installation and the whole package. They scheduled a time to come out for an estimate and even had a structural engineer look at their pictures (at no cost to us!) to make sure taking out the central divider between our existing two garage doors was possible (which it was). I originally got my opener from home depot, and when it was installed, the tech warned me that it wasn't the correct one my garage door needed, and that i should return it and get this other one from home depot. I laughed it off, thinking that he was trying to upsell me, but it took literally 12 days for the opener to stop working. I called all about doors because they left their sticker, but they explained that because they don't actually work for home depot, they just do installations for them, I'd have to call home depot. Trevor gave me the idea of raising the door to the ceiling since I have high ceiling on one side it was such a great idea, the garage looks so much nicer with the garage door not hanging on top of my head. He also suggested using my existing garage door opener to save 700 dollars. None of the other contractors I talked to was as smart as him. They should be called "All About Money" - I had springs replaced 2 months ago, having some issues now with the door hanging up on closing and, separately, an intermittent loud popping noise from the spring area. Called them to take a look, of course the spring wasn't making noise when they were here, the service person lubricated the spring. Apparently, since it wasn't making the sound while he was here, the company decided to charge me $79 for coming out, if it had made the noise it would have been a warranty call. My door never made loud popping noises prior to the repair, now it does and they charged me for that, I didn't even order that option - Ha! Will never use them again. read more
