Prices have doubled in the 6 years I've had my things in storage. Inside it's gotten very sooty and there is evidence that rats have been in my unit--paw prints and tail marks on the dust. I never intended my stuff to be stored for so long but they're a bit predatory with rate hikes, recently adding a $15 "insurance" what's insured I have no idea. I'm working to GTFO there read more

I was looking for a storage unit for my business. I had called the day before and spoke with TJ. He was extremely helpful in helping ascertaining what size unit my business needed and invited me for a tour. I dropped by the next morning and TJ was also very helpful in showing various units. There was one specific unit I really liked and I should have signed up right away but I wanted to check out another storage facility first before committing to a lease. Big mistake on my part! When I returned, TJ told me the bad news and showed me another unit. I immediately signed up and TJ was awesome in explaining everything. All American self storage on Detroit drive in San Mateo is excellent I would say five star absolutely Shiloh took my reservation and it was so wonderful that I decided to rent the larger space with the roll up door and I am pleased that my 10x25 is large enough that I can reorganize the things in life that are important to me. I'd like to use an additional paragraph just to say that this place is brand new I didn't see any roaches anywhere I didn't see any mice anywhere I was impressed that the building was so shiny and new even the floor was absolutely perfectly clean and so not only are the people here perfect but the building is perfectly new I can recommend this place to anyone anywhere with confidence amen I give it my highest rating without a doubt. Loaded my truck wit's all my stuff today but nothing locked in yet as far as a storage unit. I called 5 places and they either didn't have anything open or were ridiculously expensive. Then my last call was to All American Self Storage. Shiloh was super friendly on the phone and super helpful. They had exactly what I needed for a great price. 20 minutes later I was there and 10 minutes after that it was all squared away. I got my first storage locker with All American Self Storage in 2001 and today I rented a 2 unit with them today. I wouldn't trust any other place with my stuff. Here's what I didn't experience at All American- I didn't have roaches after storing my whole apt for 4 months while I left the Bay Area. When I have used other storage facilities in the past, after bringing everything out I will bug bomb my boxes and things. But I haven't seen any evidence of roaches (or other annoying pests)- That's pretty incredible for a storage place and worth 5 stars alone. What I did have was peace of mind! A friend recommended All American and even though I thought the pricing might be a bit high, I am glad I chose All American. I really liked working with Shylo, she's a gem- very professional with excellent customer service skills. I needed a unit closer to home and at a better rate. With gas prices rising, I need something closer to home. I've passed by this place for years and always thought about moving units. But the thought of moving all my stuff was definitely not appealing. Finally, was fed up with my belongings being 5 miles away, opposed to around the corner sounded way better. I saw the reviews on this place and requested a quote. Which happened to better review wise and value. I just completed a move from Chicago to the Bay Area, and I needed a place to store my belongings while I look for an apartment. It was easy to reserve my storage unit online, but when a sudden car accident happened on my way to San Mateo, I had to postpone my rental. AASS (specifically Mr. TJ Saba) were incredibly understanding, friendly, and supportive. Today when I was finally able to access my unit after a significant delay, I was able to meet Mr. Saba in person, and it was a breeze to get set up with my unit. Having to rent a storage unit is not one of my favorite things to do, but it was unavoidable when we made a big move and needed to store the contents of our 1-bedroom apartment. We chose All-American based on the excellent Yelp reviews and convenient location. The units are very clean and well-maintained. We went with an interior 7x10 unit, which are carpeted and with good lighting, practically like a hotel for your stuff! The manager Shylo was very helpful to us when we became concerned a few days before our move that everything would not fit in the unit, saying that we could rent a second smaller unit (5x5) if it didn't fit. That is in fact what happened, so Shylo saved us on moving day. In hindsight, it was an ideal arrangement for us, because now we are whittling down our stuff and hope to ditch the 5x5 unit, leaving us just with the 7x10 unit long term. We have now had our storage units for 3 months, and our experience with All-American has been nothing but positive. The management is always helpful and kind, and the place is impeccably clean and dry and feels very safe. Highly recommended! read more

I'm sad to say that I moved out today. I'm sad because I really enjoyed doing business with All American Self Storage and the staff there. I moved in about January 2013 after shopping around at a couple other places in the area. Their monthly rate was the lowest of the three places I called. When I went in to take a look at the available units, the front desk staff was top notch - super friendly and professional. Another reviewer said that the people there really care about their customers and their experience, and that was absolutely true for me. They always have some positive uplifting signage out on 3rd Ave. Today's message was "Celebrate Life". They change up the sign once in a while. I also found out that they send care packages to some of their customers around the holidays. The front desk guy gave me one when I expressed interest. It was a big envelope with a ton of awesome uplifting poems and positive philosophical messages about life. Anyways, I'm bummed that I have to part ways mostly because I wish all businesses were run like theirs. I know some of what I'm saying sounds ridiculous since this is a storage facility - you get your unit, you move in, and that's about it. It's just that I spent a bit of time chatting up the staff the few times I've been in the office. They're just awesome good people. I saw Todd's review and there's NO WAY based on my experience that what he's saying could be an accurate account of what happened. If you go in and meet the staff or phone them and talk to them, you'll know right away that you're dealing with stellar top-notch people. They're not just nice to you when you're shopping around for a storage unit. They're the type that are consistently kind because that's just the kind of people they are. And, I just remembered that I saw a sign out front that they were awarded 2013 Small Business of the Year from the San Mateo Chamber of Commerce. Another reviewer said they also won 2012 as well. If the location works for you, there's no way you could go wrong with All American. I'd give them 10 stars if I could. :) One more thing, contrary to what Inigo's review says, their gate closes at 9PM. They open at 7AM. They have some of the longest access hours of any storage place I checked out. read more

I *love* All American Self Storage. I have had my items 'living' there for nearly 8 years now. My personal items are safe and secure, and I feel confident that they will always be. When I looked into storage units 8 years ago, All American Self Storage had the best prices, and were the closest place to where I live, so it was a win-win all around. Over the years I have down-sized my storage needs, but keep my unit for holiday decorations, books, photo albums (yes, I still have photo albums), and miscellaneous clothing items I am not willing to part with. I love knowing the units are monitored and the gate is locked with a key code. The owners are very professional, and give back to the community on a regular basis - i.e. Toys for Tots. I have recommended this place to other people who have moved into the area and needed storage space, and will continue to recommend All American Self Storage to those who need storage solutions. read more
