This is in no way a review I want to publish, nor is it anything I have ever felt was deserved in any dealings with businesses I've ever had in the past. I tried reaching out to the shop itself, as well as AAMCO headquarters, before I filed with the Attorney General. I was offered $1,100 dollars from from this shop (through AAMCO headquarters) if I would drop this matter and sign a waiver, which I respectfully declined. It's not about the money, it's that they simply refuse to admit that in this instance, they got the diagnosis wrong! For all problems, there is a cause and effect. Remove the cause, and the effect goes away. That didn't happen here. In addition to the amount I was charged by AAMCO, I ended up spending an additional $11,000 at a local RAM dealership for it to be repaired properly. It now operates flawlessly. This information I'm sharing is free for you, so accept it for what you paid for it. But at this point, I'm writing this with nothing to gain, as they refused any attempt to accept responsibility and try to make it right. With that being said, below is the complaint I filed with the Virginia Office of the Attorney general. "I took my truck to AAMCO transmission on 11/14/23 to change the fluid and filter and diagnose/repair an issue with shifting from gears 2-1. It has a hard downshift between those gears. I authorized the change of the fluid and filter as well as diagnostic work to determine the issue. Issue was ultimately determined to be the faulty valve body. Cost was estimated to be around $4,000. I authorized replacement on 11/20 to replace the valve body, TCM, and fluid and filter change. I was informed the truck was repaired and ready for pick up on 12-01-2023. Total cost for the repair was $4,341.97. Repair was warrantied for 12 months. On the way home I noticed there seemed to be no improvement. I drove the truck for approximately 100 miles the following week and determined there was indeed no improvement from the initial issue. I returned the truck on 12-07-23 and informed the shop that the issue was still present. Received a call from AAMCO on 12-11-23, stating there was a delay in getting it diagnosed, and they would reach out once a diagnosis had been made. I received a call on 12-14-23 stating that the diagnosis had been performed and it was determined that the issue seemed to be coming from the torque converter. The estimate for repair was approximately an additional $2,100. I informed the shop that the repair should be covered by them under their repair warranty, as they diagnosed the initial issue as a valve body, which constituted $3,000 of the initial repair and they said the vehicle had been fully repaired. They have declined to repair my vehicle as a warranty repair and only offered a $200 discount for follow on repairs. I declined their offer for additional charges/attempted repairs as it was already determined to be repaired and warrantied for said repair. In addition, I was never offered the opportunity to retrieve any of the non core charge parts that were removed for my inspection upon reported completion of repair". This is my experience and I doubt they will attempt to counter anything I've stated, as it is absolutely what happened. If they do, it will go something like this: "Mr B. ended up having a two part problem with his vehicle". Or, "we did extensive testing, and all signs pointed to". Any technician can get it wrong and say, "well it was this, but it's also that". Please save your hard earned money, and take your vehicle elsewhere.

Poor Communication and Unprofessional Customer Service:…read more I don't normally leave reviews, but I feel it's important to share my honest experience so others know what to expect. I originally spoke with someone named Chris earlier in the week about bringing in my vehicle for a diagnostic. He told me to "drop it off Wednesday," but no formal appointment was made -- no confirmation text, no email, no name taken, and nothing written down in front of me. Because of that, I assumed they were operating on a flexible drop-off basis, which is common with many repair shops. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it Wednesday due to being sick, so I dropped my car off early Thursday morning instead. Throughout the day, I called multiple times just to check whether they would be able to look at it. Each time, I was told nothing -- no update, no estimate, no clarity. I even told the front desk that if they couldn't get to it, I would gladly come pick it up so I wasn't taking up their space unnecessarily. When I finally spoke with Chris, the tone and attitude I received were extremely unprofessional. Rather than simply explaining that they were too busy to look at my vehicle, he blamed me repeatedly for them not being able to work on it -- even though no confirmed appointment was ever created, no system entry was made, and no communication was sent to me to establish a scheduled date. I acknowledged my mistake in not coming Wednesday or calling ahead, but the way the situation was handled was dismissive, rude, and lacked any basic customer service. A simple "We're booked today, we'll try for tomorrow" would have gone a long way. Instead, after leaving my car there all day with no updates, I received a message saying it was "ready for pickup" -- even though they never inspected it. The entire experience left me disappointed and feeling like my time and concerns weren't valued. I understand shops get busy and that I didn't arrive on the originally discussed day, but professionalism, communication, and courtesy should still be consistent. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. I hope the shop takes this feedback seriously, because good service is as much about communication and respect as it is about repairs.

I had to jump it. So I came to this business requesting help and the older female was very short, very rude, and condescending while I explained my situation. Never asked for any information about me or my vehicle just asked that I leave it with no promise to get to it because they were " booked full" to which I could understand. But I could not do such a thing with a child at daycare and a husband at Work. I had no alternative mode of transportation to be sure that I would get my child at the end of his day or get to him in the event of an emergency. My issue is not getting service immediately. I in no way feel entitled to demand same-day service. It was the attitude of the individual that was really offputting for someone who is the face of the business when you walk in. Next, she became very frustrated with what I was explaining, and she said they would not be able to get to my vehicle until Thursday. Which I replied we will be out of town then. She then said something along the lines of I don't even know I can't help you anymore and directed me to the person sitting behind the computer who also said "I don't know either. I just got here." The business had been open for nearly an hour at that point, it was almost 9 AM. The entire interaction was discouraging and borderline demeaning. Additionally, these people don't know who I was they never asked for my name or anything and at this point, I still have not received any email back about scheduling a potential appointment for service. I went down the street to Firestone anyways, and was helped immediately but people much nicer who talked to me with empathy and respect. Something I did not receive at great bridge auto.

This was the worst repair experience I have ever had…read more I brought my 2003 Toyota Camry to this shop because I was hearing a noise under the hood that became worse whenever I applied the brakes. Mike immediately told me the problem was the brakes. After a very brief test drive, without performing any diagnostic testing or inspecting other possible causes, he again stated that the brakes were the issue. He quoted me over $700 for the brake repair, then offered a "discount" that brought the price down to $590. Although the price seemed high, I agreed because I wanted the problem fixed. The brakes were replaced the same day, but shortly after leaving the shop, I noticed the noise was still there. It was slightly less noticeable but had definitely not been resolved. Since the shop had already closed, I returned a few days later. This time, without any diagnostic testing, Mike claimed the issue was the engine. A mechanic checked the oil level, found it low, added oil, and told me to bring the car back if the noise continued. Again, no effort was made to properly diagnose the actual source of the problem. The noise disappeared for a few days, but on the fourth day it returned while I was driving on I-64. This time it was extremely loud, sounding as though something underneath the hood was dragging on the roadway. I had to pull over and call a tow truck. While waiting, I explained the situation to a state trooper, including the brake repair and the amount I had paid. His response was, "You've been ripped off." I later called around for pricing, including another location in Virginia Beach, and was told the same brake job should have cost no more than about $450. After having the vehicle towed back to the shop, I was given an estimate of approximately $7,000 for additional repairs. Naturally, I declined. My biggest concern is that the shop never properly diagnosed the original problem and allowed a vehicle with a serious mechanical issue back onto the road. That was irresponsible and potentially dangerous. I requested a partial refund because I had been overcharged for brakes that did not fix the issue and because the vehicle ultimately became unusable. Mike refunded $250 without any discussion, which speaks for itself. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this shop. The lack of proper diagnostics, questionable pricing, and failure to identify a serious mechanical problem resulted in a costly and frustrating experience.
