I do not write reviews like this. Today I have to. I called ahead and told the groomer my dog is a Pekingese. I asked for a sanitary trim, paws cleaned up, nails cut, and a wash. I said clearly that she needs a breed-appropriate cut. The groomer acted like she was familiar with the breed. I came back to a shaved dog. Shaved down to the skin, body, chest, legs. Uneven, especially across her chest. She does not look like the same animal. I did not ask for that. Nobody asked for that. Pekingese have a double coat. You do not shave a double coat. Any reputable groomer knows it. Her coat insulates in heat and cold and protects her skin from the sun...and once you shave it, it can grow back patchy, wiry, thin, or not at all. This is not a bad haircut I have to live with for six weeks. Her coat may be permanently damaged. I paid $85 for this. I also tipped $10, because I used to work service and I was not going to be that customer. So $95 to have my dog's coat taken off her body without my consent. Today was her first birthday. I only went somewhere new because my regular groomer was out of town. Annoying side note...My iPhone no longer recognizes her. Every photo I took of her on her birthday fails to sort under her name in Photos, because the software cannot match her with this butchered haircut! That is how different she looks! To be clear....when I was Standing at that counter, holding my dog, I did not push back. I was in shock, and I paid and left. I know a lot of people do the same thing, which is exactly how a business keeps doing this. And it is being done repeatedly. After I got home I read through the reviews here, and this is not a one-time mistake. Multiple customers describe the same thing: they asked for a trim or a specific cut, and their dog was shaved down instead. A Shih Tzu, twice, five months to grow back. A Yorkie. A standard poodle. Owners saying they did not recognize their own dog at pickup. I wish I had read these before I handed my dog over. That is the only reason I am writing this, so the next person does. If you own a Pekingese, a Pomeranian, a Shih Tzu, a Husky, a Chow, a Sheltie, an Aussie, any double-coated breed, take your dog somewhere else. A groomer who does not know the breed standard should decline the appointment, not guess. And no groomer should ever perform a service the owner did not ask for and did not authorize. Shih tzu's have double coats. They are suppose to have hair. This salon does not know what they are doing. Unless you want a buzz cut don't take your pet there. I was looking in the area and came across this pet salon. I have a Husky named Bruno and every summer he sheds his winter coat. I usually do it myself but I wanted to try a service so I took him here. I was a bit nervous at first because he's never been professionally groomed before but the girls did not disappoint!! He looked AMAZING!! Like a brand new doggie super clean and with a brand new coat in. The girls did tell me he was a bit difficult but I appreciate their hard work and determination! It was a little pricey but I know he's a lot of work so it makes sense. They gave him a bath, ear cleaning, nail trim, and the deshedding. Plus easy and flexible with appointment times. Good music had a calming vibe for the pets. Baby is difficult and most places will not take him because of his muzzle but they knew how to handle him. I take my baby Chester Puggington here for his little "Dog Day Spa Day" when I feel like he needs a little more attention. I'm always greeted by Rica and her staff as soon as I walk in and they're all very kind. Most of my interactions are with Rica and I love that she genuinely cares about the dogs people bring in. A lot of groomers don't make the interaction personable and aren't very affectionate to the babies. I've even seen her work very well with nervous or anxious dogs. Horrible place to take your beloved dog. This was the first time I tried this place because his normal groomer moved away. I took my dog here over the weekend and they just shaved him down without giving him his usual haircut. I explained he gets a teddy bear face (that's standard with yorkie's). He was there for six hours! My Yorkie is 5 pounds, how it took two people and six hours to give him a haircut? This is ridiculous. They blamed my dog for being anxious and shakey as to why they took so long. I picked him up and he was shaved down to his skin. I feel so bad taking my dog here. I told them to give him a teddy bear face and they shaved it. I should've known by her tone over the phone that she was frustrated with my dog that it would be a horrible experience.
