    cheese curds
    Sarah V.

Grabbed a window bar seat for a happy hour $8 glass of wine and stayed for an afternoon snack of cheese curds. Huge portion of cheese curds - absolutely shareable by multiple people. Huge selection of wine by the glass, bottle or to go - and all the staff are extremely kind and knowledgeable about all the options. I like to try a fun, out of the box wine here and there, and when seeking this was once offered an option that I was told tasted acidically just like "licking a nine volt battery" and it delivered on that promise (and was so good). Always a good neighborhood shop to stop in for a sit down meal/drink or a tasty item to go!

Roasted fingerling potatoes & grilled cheese with peach jam & mixed greens. So good.

I've been to all together now several times. Always delicious. This time I had the grilled cheese sandwich with peach jam & micro greens. It was heavenly. The roasted fingerling potatoes are always so good. The dipping sauces were a garlic aioli & some kind of fancy ketchup. I could lick the bowls. I've also had their bagel with cream cheese. Better than your average bagel for sure. Servers are super cool & friendly. The place has great decor. I feel like I'm at a European cafe. You can also purchase crusty breads, unique cheeses, wines, olives, all kinds of snacks to go.

This place was a COMPLETE surprise to me. I was NOT expecting the ambience, service, and cuisine that we experienced!!! The food gives you the feeling and memories of your mother's cooking growing up. I recommend giving this place a try!!! WOW! Thank you!!!

This was another find when staying in the area. They were accommodating to a group of nine and on a Saturday morning sat us right away. I ordered the Two Eggs Any Style and so did half of the table so it was overall a hit. My scrambled eggs, grits, and house made sausage all were perfect! The Shokupan is a milk bread that comes with it and only adds to the meal. Everyone was talking about this dish all weekend!

I have been wanting to come to this place in Ukrainian village for a very long time. My boyfriend and I went for lunch on Saturday. We split the egg muffin sandwich and the burger. Both were very good, but I would argue that the egg sandwich was better because the sauce it came with was incredible. The burger itself was a little dry. Overall, I think this is a really cute cheese and wine shop with some fun dishes to try. I would come back if I was in the area for a drink or an appetizer. However, it is very small and the surcharge/restaurant fees are kind of a lot so I was not a fan of that

Three Cheese Board & fingerling potatoes with vino: a perfect afternoon snack
    Melissa R.

Came for the cheese board, stayed for the wine selection. A bright, welcoming space with staff that knows their stuff. It's a small but mighty menu and everything seems 100% delicious! We were just in need of a quick snack so opted for the 3 cheese board which alternates daily and includes the option to add charcuterie if desired and the potatoes which were the perfect crisp with 2 in made in house dipping sauce. Grab a bottle to go on your way out!

My friends and I stopped in for a Sunday brunch and had such a great time! While the food is a bit pricey, the quality was there and the service was great. This restaurant gives a very unique vibe and it was perfect for brunch with friends and sharing plates to try all the different delicious bites they offer. Can't wait to go back to try more!

Such amazing service!! They overheard it was my bday and provided a complimentary cake + glasses of bubbly wine for me and my friend while playing Rihanna's iconic Birthday Cake song. It was such a pleasure to spend my bday there, and side note: the food and wine are scrumptious. But the highlight was the staff that evening :)

I think I'm addicted to this place. Not only is it a welcoming and cute atmosphere, but the staff is so knowledgeable about all things cheese and wine. Nicole helped me find the perfect wine/cheese pairing with A LOT of education! They hosted a tasting as well as a cheese board making class that I adored. They also have all the adornments for a cheese board night in.

This is such an adorable neighborhood gem! I cake here for their happy hour wine and cheese boards and was not disappointed. Happy hour pricing was incredibly reasonable as well. Our server was friendly, but not all behind the counter seemed to be friendly. There was a DJ playing when I went which was a great touch. Seems like a great place for friends to gather or for a date night!

Just wow. If you have a guest in town & want to have an excellent bottle of wine with delicious food just come here. The service, the wine, the whole laid back/ neat/ modern vibe, the food, the beer, this restaurant has checked all my boxes. I recently went for brunch with my fiancée and her mother. I ordered the creamed eggs over toast, a salmon lox bagel, sourdough bread , a bottle of wine, and a bottle of Lambic ale. I'd like to start off highlighting the wine - the wine is extraordinary. I can safely say outside of Europe, I've had my favorite bottles of wine here at this establishment. the entire staff is trained to know everything about the wine they sell. And their selection is off the charts: Italy France Spain you name it they have it. Asking for a recommendation is like speaking to a sommelier. Their recommendations are so on point it's crazy. Please go here with friends and please speak to Kyle or Rachel for a recommendation (or anyone from the staff) they are all pro's at wine. Ok now to the food: Creamed eggs over toast - this was served over a bed of pork fat collard greens atop sourdough from aya. Wow. Collards with the cream and a little crunch was a match made in heaven. This dish had heads turning at the restaurant. Must try. Salmon lox bagel sandwich - delicious everything bagel, nova lox, has a slight lemony touch I found nice, cream cheese, the whole shabang. Can't go wrong w this dish. Can't recommend this place enough.

Came here for Happy Hour on A Sunday and sat outside on their patio area (by the road). This place has food and drink service, but it is also a store where you can browse for wine and cheese also!! Service was friendly, however, sometimes it was a bit frustrating trying to flag someone down inside while outside. Happiest hour cheese board + meats: great selection of cheese and accouterments on toasted baguettes. The salted honey was perfect for the plate. They had $6 glasses of wine for happiest hours and were served in the most delightful little glasssware! We had a great time!

A unique experience, the food was super delicious with a mix of flavors from around the world. I left with an amazing experience in terms of food and flavors, but my greatest lesson was how hard the kitchen staff works and the passion: the orchestrated action to keep with the orders, the constant heat from the kitchen, the attention to details, and the love for flavor perfection. Service was a bit slow. It took 45 mins to get our first dish, which was the halibut. First, just want to comment that the portion size is quite small relative to the price of the dishes. The halibut. This was very delicious. Somehow the blueberry nuoc cham works? The fish was tender and flaky. The sauce was salty and full of umami with a hint of blueberry sweetness. This fish dish made me crave for a bowl of steaming hot bfluffy white rice. The string beans. Unless you are allergic to nuts, this is a must get dish. Perfectly cooked string beans (still crispy but not raw) sautéed with fish sauce vinaigrette was an absolute delight. It's also on the salty side which made me crave rice but it's such a flavor bomb. The cashews provided a contrast in texture but yet complemented the seemingly simple dish. I wish the portions were bigger. The galbi. It's was good but compared to the first 2 dishes, didn't really wow me. The meat was one rib strip (4 rib bones) cut into 4 pieces so it's a rather small portion for the price. The stone fruit slices was a nice pairing in that it provided a sweet and tart contrast to the heavier meat flavor. After trying this dish, I felt I personally prefer the LA galbi marinade flavor and preparation for short ribs. Overall, I'm glad I got to try this place. Would come back for the string beans on a splurge day .

Hands down, and I don't say this lightly - Boka is one of my favorite restaurants in the country. I don't think it's too wild to say it may certainly be my FAVORITE restaurant in the US of A. This past week was my second pilgrimage to Boka, and I was stoked as ever. We ordered some non-alcoholic drinks, a few appetizers, and our entrees (duck and black truffle chicken). We had a nice discussion with the waiter and shared our enthusiasm and excitement with him. We shared that this was our return to my safe culinary haven, and I was prepared to be dazzled again. And dazzled I was. The chicken was phenomenal. The flavors were amazing and so poignant, and the tenderness of chicken made you really question if you were eating chicken at all. Everything was so moist and tender, and each bite was a ballet of flavor in your mouth. The duck, although not the star of the show, was hearty and delicious as well. The parsnip puree added an earthiness complexion to each slice of duck. The kicker of the night was when our server brought us our bill at the end. He gifted us complimentary menus of what we ordered that night, paired with a generous "Welcome Back" and the date of our wonderful evening. That small, but mighty, gesture encapsulates Boka in a nutshell. Fine dining, excellent quality of food, topped with service that was personally catered to make our meal enjoyable. It's about the experience, and every aspect of our experience at Boka was met with extraordinary marks. I'm dreaming already of round 3 at Boka. When? I don't know. But I'll be ready to tango again.

The crispy potato chips added a great crunch, and the cornichons brought just the right amount of acidity to balance everything out. Next came the Hokkaido scallops, and they were cooked perfectly. I also appreciated that the kitchen split all of our appetizers onto separate plates since we were sharing. It's a small detail, but it made the meal feel much more thoughtful. For our entrees, we ordered the black truffle chicken and the glazed beef short rib. I'm not sure how they prepared the chicken, but it was incredibly tender with some of the most flavorful skin I've had. Every bite was juicy and almost melted in your mouth. The short rib was just as impressive, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I've also done the tasting menu here before, and it was just as memorable. You definitely won't leave hungry. The restaurant has a great atmosphere too. It feels perfect for a date night without being so dim that you can barely see your food.

I planned to dine at Au Cheval for Sunday lunch and unfortunately there weren't any reservations available on Resy for lunchtime when I checked. Of note, Resy charges $2.50 per person to book the reservation which does not go towards the bill. After looping around for parking and finding a metered spot, I checked in at the restaurant shortly after 11:30am and was told I was 28th in line and the host could not quote a wait time due to the inclusion of online reservations. I thought that was a bit odd so I ended up walking around to explore the surrounding businesses. I finally received a text that my table was ready around thirty minutes later. The restaurant itself is not big but gives off an old fashioned vibe which I guess correlated with the type of food served. I ordered a single cheeseburger, a side of thick cut peppered bacon, and a side of French fries. I figured it was more economical to order a side of bacon rather than adding it to my burger so I can eat as much or as little as I wanted. The food came around fifteen minutes later. The burger itself did not look as big on the plate as I expected, although it was apparent how thick the two hamburger patties were. Since everyone was raving about the burger I had high expectations which unfortunately were not met. The burger tasted like a burger found at any average diner across the country. The bacon pieces were thick and flavorful but I don't think they elevated the burger as much as I'd like. Also, I wished there were cheese options rather than offering only American cheese which is probably the cheapest cheese that can be added on a burger. The fries reminded me of In-N-Out fries but the fries at the bottom of the cup were way too salty as if all the salt was added to the bottom of the cup instead of trickling down after being sprinkled on the fries on top. Considering all the hype about Au Cheval and the claims that their cheeseburger is one of the best burgers in the country or world, I was very underwhelmed. If this burger were to represent the Chicago food scene on a national level, it should rank lower than several other major cities in the United States.
