Was super excited to try this new neighborhood spot and was heard great things. Sorry to say we were disappointed. $13 for a roast beef sandwich that didn't come with any sides and really wasn't as flavorful as you would expect at a place like that. We also got the chopped salad that again felt was pretty over priced for the size and very few ingredients they put in it. The leaves of lettuce were the size of the plate, so we had to cut them up ourselves- not what you'd expect when you get a chopped salad! We unfortunately left unsatisfied and not full. Otherwise, nice staff and cool environment but maybe better for wine and cheese then a meal. read more

I think I found my new morning/noon/night place. From a cup of coffee in the morning, to a glass of wine in the evening, this restaurant is my spirit animal. I went for the first time with a friend where we shared an affordable (and tasty) bottle of wine, the sourdough, a cheese and meat board, and their roasted chicken. The highlight for me was the decadent black garlic bread pudding that the roasted chicken rested on. So incredibly savory - I'll be dreaming of it until I return! For a restaurant where you order and then find a seat, the service and care was more than casual. A really cute space for a lovely breakfast with a friend. Really delicious and health conscious options, though you can certainly splurge if you like. Really good coffee, a small tea selection, and lots of bottles of bubbly if you want to take things to the next level. I do wish the seating was a bit more managed since they serve sit down food and not just quick things you can grab and eat standing if you can't find a seat, and I do hope to see more exciting things on the menu, but a nice addition to the neighborhood for sure. read more

Saturday morning. Hungry. Eager to try a new place. All things running through my head when my wife and I stopped in here last Saturday morning. I wanted to like this place so badly... I just couldn't get there. The entire set up is weird, upon walking in, you order at the counter...dont pay yet, then grab a seat in the limited seating set up. This being a new restaurant, I mentioned to the cashier that I was not picky, but would like a recommendation. She proceeded to recommend a cheese board (didn't tell me the price - it turned out to be $35) as well as their staple creamy eggs and toast. Stay away from this! I thought that it was going to be a scramble of eggs but turned out to be so sort of Egg-Salad sandwich on toast? IDK, but it was inedible. Truly awful, IDK that there is any coming back from that. Such a cute spot in Ukrainian village! The decor was modern yet felt like home. It is very clean and the staff was so welcoming! There is nothing better than coming to visit in this restaurant! Everything about this place is perfect, from the design to the ambiance. I also appreciate how friendly and accommodating their personnel is, which is another reason why I enjoy coming here. When they serve your meal, they plate it in an interesting way. One of my favorites was their donuts. Cream cheese is an excellent topping for donuts. There is no doubt that they serve some of the best food in the city. The Bagel Platter is one of the selections I'd recommend to you. It resembles a donut in shape. The nicest part about this dish is that it's served with a unique sauce. Cream cheese, cucumber relish, and herbs are just some of the ingredients in this dish. I have loved everything about this place since I learned of it opening. The food is so unique and they obviously shop for fresh ingredients. Every time I go to a dinner party, I describe the menu to the sommelier and they hit it on the head for wine pairings. Too bad I can't go here anymore because the last time I went I had to create an online account and order through a cell phone. We came in because of the adorable patio thinking it was a coffee shop only to be delighted that it was not only a wine bar, but one which specializes in creating perfectly paired charcuterie boards for whatever you choose to drink- even beer! Wow!!!! We just finished the four-course Valentine's Day special, and it was absolutely delicious. The meal was incredibly unique with a chevre salad dressing, homemade brioche, meat lasagna, topped off with dark chocolate panna cotta w/ lavender whipped cream & edible flowers. As a regular coffee snob at Herbster's previous establishment, I've been looking forward to checking this place out for a while and it didn't disappoint. The place is incredibly well designed, the staff is pleasant and the food and coffee are delicious. I had the creamy egg sandwich or something like that and it was very filling and delicious. The Ruby Creamery blend is one of the best coffee's I've ever tasted. It was too early for me to imbibe but they have a great selection of wines, cheese and beers as well. Worth the trip from River North and if you're in the neighborhood you should definitely check out West Town's new addition! read more

Great addition to the neighborhood! Came in here with a friend to check out the brunch/lunch options, and landed on two great dishes: breakfast sandwich and brussels sprouts. Both were well crafted and highly delicious. Seating is limited and I'm guessing it will get more hard to find seats as this place becomes more well known. I spoke to the staff about figuring out a better option than 1st-come-1st-serve, and I think they'll figure something out. Very friendly staff! Good luck guys!!! read more

I wouldn't say that I am a regular but the staff def knows me and my husband by name. That gives you an idea of how bomb this place is. The food and drinks of course are amazing. But it's the vibe and the people who work there that keep us coming back. A huge perk is that the food and drinks are so reasonably priced. I can get a $15 or $20 wine that is from europe that tastes AMAZING. It's also a perk that is right down the block from my favorite gym The Garage Chicago. A wonderful addition to the West Town neighborhood. We have visited a few times and it always proves to be a great experience. The menu is seasonal and changes, all items we have tried have been great. I really recommend the sourdough bread and creamed trout. The menu is small and not vegetarian/vegan friendly whatsoever. I came here because the owner said on Yelp that most dishes could be prepared vegan, but that did not prove to be true when I visited. A bit disappointing since the owner was so assuring about being veggie-friendly on Yelp... Also, the seating felt odd because they have a typical "bougie" menu for a sit-down cafe or restaurant, but you have to order from an iPad? Just... wasn't impressed. Their pimento cheese spread and whitefish dip are both so flavorful and crave worthy. We ordered their Rosh Hashanah basket and we were super impressed. We just ordered the white bean sandwich, the pea pesto tartine, the brussel sprouts, beets, and chicken and dumplings. Oh my wonderfulness.
