I have been a patient of Dr Beede for several years. Usually just for my annual check up and new glasses. This time however, he said he spotted something on the back of my eye and to return 3 months later. He ran the test and said everything looked good but do I have diabetes? I said No, not even pre diabetic. He told me very sincerely that when I stop taking the GLP-1 medication Wegovy, I'll probably get diabetes. It upset me but him giving me the warning and to be prepared is priceless. Then he pointed to some white spots on my eye. He said I need to come back and run another test because they could fill with liquid and that would be really bad. So instead of my regular checkup appointment, he scheduled me ahead of time to check those white things. I just thought I would share with you how much this man takes good care of his patients. He really cares, he checks things that are irregular as a doctor should but I'm on Medicaid (medi-cal) and not maydoctors would give me so much time and concern. I think Dr Beede and staff are an excellent team! They are courteous, caring, knowledgeable and you can feel the genuine care for you, the patient. He's a gem in the rough, especially since most medicaid doctors just get you in and out and don't take the time to listen. In my opinion Dr Beede and staff deserve all the stars I rated them. If your looking for an eye doctor, I strongly recommend going to see Dr Beede. His office is beautiful, top notch equipment, top notch staff. You won't be disappointed. He actually cares about my eyes and I'm just a Medicaid patient. Not many doctors would give me the time and tests Dr Beede did. Your a great Doctor and you have wonderful practice. Inconsistent and bad with follow up. Doctor has a weird vendetta against other eye doctors and can be moody. They messed up my prescription completely and i had to get all my glasses redone, and did not take accountability. They also keep you there for hours doing random testing outside of what you need. I've been seeing Dr. Allen L. Beede for over 5 years for my annual eye exams. He is an excellent doctor professional, knowledgeable, and kind and I've always trusted his care. I visited for my routine checkup on July 8th, 2025. After my exam, I went to pick out eyewear. While I was waiting, several staff members were just sitting around and ignoring me no greeting, no help until Dr. Allen himself came out, noticed I had been waiting for a long time, and asked them to assist me. That alone was frustrating and embarrassing. On July 21st, I was notified that my glasses were ready. When I went in to pick them up, I realized the fitting measurement was completely wrong. When I sat down to discuss it, a staff member rudely told me to move because "one of their girls" wanted my seat. There was no apology or courtesy. They blamed the lab for the mistake and told me they would send the glasses back for correction, which would take 2-3 weeks. After 2 weeks, I called to check on the order. The person who answered, in a very rude tone, told me, "It might be ready sometime tomorrow," and that was it--no apology, no explanation. I heard nothing from them afterward. over a week later, I called again, was kept on an extremely long hold, and when someone finally picked up, they were just as dismissive. They told me the glasses still weren't ready. When I said I was disappointed, the response was simply, "Ok." I have never experienced such bad customer service anywhere in my life. The lack of professionalism, accountability, and basic respect from the staff is shocking. I'm writing this review because I truly like and respect Dr. Allen, and I've been a loyal patient for years. But his staff's behavior has made it impossible for me to continue coming back. They have completely lost my business, and I hope Dr. Allen sees this and takes serious action to fix these issues. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Beede for many years - he was originally a second provider I saw to get a second opinion on a serious issue I had with my eyes that was hard to determine a treatment for. He has always been willing to work with me to address the problems as best as possible. For example, any test I was interested in because of my particular case, he'd do it if he has the equipment for it. If I found something on the internet (yeah, I know...), he'd listen to me about it and if there was something actionable, he'd do it if it was within his ability. Examples would include specific contact lenses, prescription eye drops, etc. He's also willing to cross-reference with any other optometrists or ophthalmologist data that you can provide him to double-check results. Although my problem was never fully solved (it's not his fault), my eyes have stabilized since then, and I and my wife now also sees him yearly. My wife also recently started experiencing her own set of issues, and Dr. Beede has been just as receptive and helpful to her as he has been with me. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Beede and his outstanding staff. They go above and beyond in everything that they do. Dr. Beede is honest (which is hard to find, and I absolutely love), knowledgeable and friendly. He has years of experience and helps navigate/understand the complicated and scary process of vision care. My whole family (including my parents) go to Dr. Beede. Each one of us has a different issue(s) and he explained every step/measure. He is not interested in just doing his job, he wants to help. I have to say a few words about his staff too. They are always super nice, friendly, and caring. Always treat everyone with respect. And when I called on a Friday 20 minutes before their closing time with an urgent matter. I have mix feeling about this place. The female doctor who did my eye exam was very nice and helpful so 5 stars for her. As for the staffs, they were nice but I felt they didn't have personality. I tried asking them about their opinion about which glasses would look nice on me and if the fit was good. And all I got back was one single answer "yes". Well yes what? Did it look nice or it fit my frame of my face. I know at the end it my choice but just suggestions would be nice. I kinda felt they didn't like there job or didn't want to be there. I'm sorry but whatever your situation is don't bring it to work. Patients should be your number one. I spent a lot of money here for glasses so I hope to be helped in a better matter. read more

Front desk personnel and those who are answering the phone calls are the worse. In most cases, after entering into their office the front desk personnel don't acknowledge you unless you say something. And then, they command you to step back and wait there with no clear communication. Then you keep waiting and waiting until you remind them that you are still waiting. They look at you and say nothing and leave. After a few minutes another person shows up and asks you to follow them, it's either in a form of mumbling or commanding manner. Their interaction is pretty much based on if she likes you or not. There is no standard professional interaction. And above all their favorite catch phrases is that " sorry there's nothing that we can do" read more

I been coming here for about 3 years and never had an issue till this year. I walked in there was no one in the front. Staff would walk back and forth and never greeted me. Phone kept ringing and ringing till someone came to answer it. She didn't ask if I was helped neither did she greet she just went straight to the phone. Another staff member came by and not a hi, hello, have you been helped, she left and after being there for like about 15 min I was finally asked if i was being helped out already. I have noticed that reading was becoming an effort and I admit to borrowing my husband's prescription eyeglasses at times to read package instructions. I was shocked to find out that this office refuses to require its employees and staff to be vaccinated as California has been requiring for health care offices. This office also has not done anything to improve its air quality or ventilation to prevent the spread of COVID. I am very disturbed that Dr Beede cares so little about his patients that he isn't doing anything to keep his staff and patients safe. I do not recommend this office. There are plenty of qualified optometrists that give excellent care that also are doing everything they can to make their offices a safe place for patients and staff and prevent the spread of COVID and other diseases. I'm surprised this place has good reviews They set me up with the wrong doctor, when I mentioned that it wasn't the right doctor, they just didn't care. The insisted we write our social number although we provided our insurance card and they made a copy. Then the worse part is they just seem to want to get their money and move on. Zero medical expertise, zero logic in what they said. They diagnose everything as "dry eye" and don't even understand the root cause of a problem. You go there, they give you an over the counter drop, ask you to put warm compresses and charge you for something you could read online. If I can give him a zero I would. This doctor does not do a visual acuity test. He just looks at your old prescription and bases the test on that. I've had many eye exams in my life and this is the worst provider out there. Lens crafters or Costco vision center is better than going to see this guy! She had an attitude and just said here you go have a nice day! I had to stop her to ask if I need an adjustment what can I do she then said rudely "we'll try them on" I proceeded to try them on and she had the audacity to tell me to hurry up because she had to take care of other clients. My wife and I dropped by for the first time to get our yearly eye exams and check ups. We were worried about going to the eye doctor during Covid, so it was incredibly encouraging how to see how seriously everybody at the office took their safety precautions. Reception wasn't super welcoming, I've been to offices with much friendlier staff. I was looking for a possible new doctor for the future but already had a prescription that I had just received and wanted to order my eyeglasses and sunglasses but I discovered they don't fill outside prescriptions. That was inconvenient but obviously, their choice. I wasn't about to pay for an exam when I had just had one. I was able to find a more accommodating office. I did not interact with the doctors but I have many friends who come here and love this place. read more

I visited Dr. Allen Beede's office three times to get a pair of glasses and they were very helpful. After the first time I went I needed the glasses to be adjusted twice. THey were incredibly helpful, as well as calling me in the meantime to ask me whether I would like a special tint on my glasses to help with my photophobia. The staff and doctor were kind and answered all my questions both in-office and by phone very professionally. Just came here for my annual check-up. I just switched new insurance companies, so I was wondering if this would present problems, but as I found out, it was more seamless than I could ever imagine. The helpful staff took my insurance card, guided me to a room and Dr. Beede was in the room in less than a couple of minutes. He re-acquainted himself with me remembering what I did and asked what I was up to lately. This is something that you don't get with doctors very often, but Dr. Beede is batting 1.000. He's a huge baseball fan (Giants) as it turns out as well as a Sharks fan. +2 big points in my book. Dr. Beede was quick and efficient with his examination. Even though I was one of the office's last patients and taking forever to pick out a new pair of shades, they didn't rush me out of the office and were very accommodating to my pickiness. I'm so upset with this place!!!! I left this place thinking my insurance would cover the services I had from my visit because that is what they said, but NOOOO!! I used VSP insurance through my company to pick up a pair of glasses. They were ready promptly and got them fitted nicely and everything. At the time I still had several boxes of contacts left, so I opted to wait on those. Fast forward eight months later, I was down to one pair of contacts. I called them up to see if I can just get the contact lens fitting/exam done and put in a prescription for some contacts, since I wouldn't be eligible to use my insurance for another few months. They told me since it had been over six months, I would have to pay to get another new eye exam. Doesn't a normal eye exam last a year? Why do I need a new exam when it hasn't been a year yet? I'm not sure if this is the policy for all optometrists or just this one. I opted to go elsewhere. I don't really agree with their six month policy. read more

Holy Smokes! A nice eye doctor, and one that graduated from Saint Mary's! Double Trouble for optometry. Here's a little background. I have been to a variety of eye professionals. Costco, Sears, Kaiser, some little sketch shop in Mountain View...you name It, I had been there. Honestly, I think I ended up at the joints that were either covered by my dad's insurance, or that he liked. Keep in mind, he once bought glasses from the Dr. Dean section of Long's. Yeah, no wonder right? Flash forward to today. My eyes need TLC, and it's recommended that we humans get a check-up once a year. I hadn't seen an eye doctor in 3 years, so I knew it was time. I searched my trusty BFF Yelp and found Dr. Allen Beede. Isn't if funny...Beede as in Beede eyes. He must get that a lot?!? The office is located behind the Walgreen's on San Carlos and Meridian. Parking is plenty, and the space is clean. Most insurance is accepted, and the staff make booking an appointment simple. Dr. Beede is professional, courteous, and thorough. He is not pushy, and there is no huge sales pitch at the end. Convenient hours, and awesome frames available for purchase. I am on the bandwagon. My only complaint:I wish I would have found him prior to my Lasik surgery. He is extremely knowledgeable and hip to the key players in eye surgery world. If you are considering Lasik, make sure you consult with your regular eye doctor and not some random person you just met. Just sayin' folks. read more

Being halfway legally blind, I have optometric needs that need to be catered to. This office takes care of all its clients, and then some. Even though I already had a prescription that was filled by a different optometrist, Dr. Beede made sure to verify everything. He also explained every nuance of the prescription, so I now understand what all those strange numbers are. Before the exam began though, he introduced himself and how he and his wife (Dr. Shiroshi) came to be. Dr. Beede is extremely personable and cares about his work--it is apparent through the practice. Do note, he is a fan of golf and baseball. The office itself is clean, and all the other staff members were friendly and helpful. Shane, the medical assistant, thoroughly explained everything he was doing and showed me the cool picture he took of my eyes. A young woman helped me peruse the small selection of sunglasses, and explained my insurance's allowances. She also provided information on how to order shades that they did not have in stock. Good thing, 'cause they didn't have much of a stunna shade collection going on. In all honesty, I want to say that this office is horrible so that you all do not impact it...but I can't, as that would be opposite of the truth. Best optometrist office ever!!! read more

Sometimes when a place like a dentist or an optometrist has a ton of five-star reviews, I find myself slightly skeptical. Are these reviews plants, slipping through the Yelp filter? Well gentle reader, I can assure you that Dr. Beede's office lives up to the hype. Rarely does an experience like an eye exam move me to write a review, but from the receptionist to picking up my new prescription, I found everything about the visit to be efficient and helpful. Not to mention Dr. Beede really took the time to make sure I was happy with my new prescription. In addition, I found their online booking/e-mail communications really useful, particularly because I hate speaking on the telephone. I especially appreciated that no one tried to upsell me on glasses. I order mine online and the office staff was more than happy to e-mail me my prescription and even give my PD for free. Getting things settled through my insurance was a breeze. Overall, I cannot recommend Dr. Beede enough. read more

I came here not to long ago in hopes to get a proper prescription to get glasses elsewhere because my insurance doesn't cover the glasses part but just the eye exam. It was really fast and the person who did my exam was super nice. I expressed to he that I just wanted to prescription to get glasses. Had my mother in law give the prescription to Costco and wasn't able to get my glasses because they did NOT fill in the PD measurements. So yeah I'm not that very happy about that. read more

He was very helpful helping me choose some lenses and was straight up on what I needed; doesn't mindlessly repeat lens company recommendations. He even replaced my trial pair of lenses because I lost one from my first pair. On a non-optometry note: he is one of the coolest Dr's I've met. Got my eyes checked out and got to shoot the breeze about the underachieving Sharks and sorry Giants. I really love how they treat their patients here even on the phone! Their customer service is really top notch, especially their front office team. I called to double check a few insurance things because my name changed (got married), switched insurance (got on my hubbie's insurance) and moved. Not only did the associate double check and verify me being on my husband's insurance, she also updated our addresses and scheduled us both for early morning appointments the very next day. I seldom post reviews and have never given anyone 5 stars (background)... My last eye doctor had the gall to retire so I was left to shop for somebody else to take his place. Since I'm incredibly paranoid about my eyes and have read more scary stories than I should have for my own good I launched a major search for a doctor I could trust. Dr. Beede made the cut and after visiting him was incredibly pleased with both his professionalism, willingness to listen and thorough exam he conducted. I read the negative review on Yelp and have to disagree completely. The doctor could have sold me a variety of treatment plans which I thought were necessary but he actually took the time to explain why I didn't need them, what I was experiencing and gave me some needed peace of mind. My wife found Dr. Beede on yelp, and used their office. She liked them, and I ended up using him for my optometrist. I've had a great optometrist in San Diego, and I was pretty picky with whom I would choose. But, luckily the whole experience from beginning to end was fairly enjoyable. I think will be going back to him for quite a while. -Schedule change - I had to change my schedule due to work meetings, and they accommodated me fairly quickly. -Equipment - All the modern equipment you can think of was in-house. -Front of house - A bit confusing with two lobbies, but they were quick to guide me to the right place. -Optician - My optician was very patient with me as I was hemming-and-hawing over the different frame selections. She gave good judgment on what looked good and what didn't look as good. -The only point of improvement I can see- Their frame selection on the high end was lacking. I was used to picking out a bit more upper-mid-range frames, and there was a lack of selection there with D&G/Versace/Prada/Gucci branded frames. But, I can also understand the economics behind it, as most folks using glasses are price sensitive. read more

What a great practice!!!! I was in desperate need of new contacts and my yearly eye exam. I called at 2:30 and got an appt for 4 that same afternoon!! I found Dr.Beede through my insurance provider list and when I googled him his Yelp ratings swayed me over. THANK YOU YELPERS!!! I have been to numerous optometrists in the bay area as well as Orange County, CA and Dr. Beede totally exceeded all of my prior experiences. When I walked in I filled out the pt info sheet and by the time I finished, I was already called to the exam room. Dr. Beede went over my any existing conditions that I may have and during the exam he explained what was going on, why it may be this certain way and how to keep from any further damage. He addressed my concerns with the contact lens brand that I use, whether I prefer to get LASIK (no pressure), and how comfortable I am with glasses. I really appreciate the time he took with me during my appointment. I definitely felt like he cared about my questions and concerns and appreciates me as a patient. When the exam was over, his staff member then goes over your plan and options with you and how much it will cost ( I opted for colored contacts and a new pair of glasses). As I chose a new frame another representative was there with me helping me find the perfect frame. I NEVER felt pressured to get a certain frame or brand she listened to what I liked and made sure I got to try all the frames that might be what I described to her.
