Most people shy away from being the only diners in a restaurant. But the hospitality was too inviting to turn back. It was so late, we just wanted a few bites. I asked the host to not go to much trouble since it was late. He responded by telling me, "you're overthinking it." The next thing you know, bread service and amuse-Bouche were on the table. The wine was suggested and it would have been a mistake to say no. The experience couldn't have been more familial. The seafood trio was fantastic. A spicy, chunky, tomato and roasted garlic flavored the scallop. Grilled octopus on grilled zucchini. Grilled calamari (simple and my favorite). The rigatoni bolognese was comforting. The ambiance was an upscale Italian restaurant and very relaxed atmosphere for winding down. I ordered the clam pasta and a side of asparagus to go. There were so many clams in the dish itself and balanced the sauce and flavors well. I felt the pasta was cooked and coated perfectly in the sauce, with plenty left to enjoy with the bread that came with the dish. Came here twice for dinner recently including for my birthday and for Valentine's Day. The first time I thought the seafood was just kinda okay although I enjoyed their take on a Manhattan cocktail. The second time I thought the seafood risotto special was delicious and I pretty much scarfed it down. This is an old school Italian restaurant that is next door to The Bernic. It's very small and narrow and we sat in the "outdoor" section that is under a glass enclosure. It's very traditional, with the staff in black suits. They bring the tray of rolls for your selection. I chose a multigrain roll. I also ordered the Caesar salad (prepared table side) where they ask how many anchovies you want (yes, anchovies are in a classic Caesar and I like them but I just wanted one) and they made the dressing with a raw egg yolk and tossed with romaine. It was delicious. I also ordered risotto with mushrooms. It was hot, earthy with just the right texture and luscious sauce. First off, Alex our server was very helpful and informative throughout our meal. The food was delicious. As it was lunch we skipped the first course and went straight for the entrees. For me it was Linguine with White Clam Sauce. For my wife, Cheese (Burrata) Ravioli with Meat Sauce. Great Sunday dinner with dear friends. Amazing riverside dining and food that hits the high notes with excellent service and fresh ingredients. A good sign of a good dinner is how quiet it got as soon as the food arrived. We shared a delicious Burrata and pesto appetizer, and the fried calamari and zucchini. The Autumn salad was fresh and sweet with pears and a side if perfectly grilled chicken breast. Two areas of opportunity: My only disappointment was the bread. Too light, not enough character. A sourdough, Berkshire Bread company something with a crust and more complexity. Also that we had to ask for more bread to sop up the pesto. Things a good server will be asking you for and paying attention to. The lasagna was consumed fully, the pasta and meatballs was excellent. Made with a light ragu of carrots and fresh tomatoes with little bite size meatballs and homemade pasta, which was cooked to perfection. I devoured all of it, when usually I take some home. Came here with friends for a dinner after eating at the Allora on Fifth Avenue and was hoping to match the experience I had there but it didn't quite meet the standard that was set there, but it was still okay. Overall, the food is good and service was interesting but the ambiance is severely lacking. Again, since in my mind I'm comparing it to the other location, I may be grading on a tougher scale. Food-wise, we started with a Caesar salad made tableside which was great. They had a special of grilled calamari but when we asked if they had fried, they said they could do that and they made a really nice plate of fried calamari. I had the dentice mediterranean (red snapper) for my meal and it was good, although not quite as delicious as the one I had at the other location. I think maybe they cooked it early and it sat out for awhile as it had gotten a little cold and the sauce had congealed a bit. The waiter was professional but was really pushing hard to add food to the ticket. It's just uncomfortable having to push back multiple times, especially when he was trying to get my friend who doesn't eat seafood to order a seafood appetizer. Additionally, the same friend ordered a veal pasta special, which was gigantic. It was also delicious, as the waiter forced everyone at the table to try some even though two of the people protested that they didn't want any. Not everyone eats veal, my dude! And then to forcibly put it on someone's plate just so it gets tossed out doesn't make sense to me. Maybe some people think that's charming or cute but as an adult, I'm capable of being clear on what I wish to eat and what I don't wish to eat and it would be nice if that was respected. The biggest drawback of this place is the ambiance. We ate early in the evening and were the only table in the restaurant when we sat down. About 45 minutes later, a table for two was seated right next to us and they were so loud. If the restaurant was going to be packed, I get it, but by the time we left only two more tables had been seated. The tables where we were seated were close together and I just didn't understand why they had to seat that couple on top of us. We literally couldn't hear our own conversation over the screeching of the lady at the next table. Additionally, there were some people in the back of the restaurant and I'm not sure if they worked there or not but the wait staff was hanging out and they were also just super loud and distracting. So even though the food was good, the weird, pushy service and the really loud people kind of ruined the vibe. Probably wouldn't come back here but would definitely go back to the other location where it's a little bit calmer and is more of a fine dining experience. read more

From the moment you walk inside the service is awesome. I'm not sure if the person holding the door opened for us was the manager but he was great. Showed us to our table and greeted us heartily. They gave us some complimentary finger foods and bread to start off. For the table we ordered the clams orrganate, the Octopus, the pappardelle fra diavolo, the gnocchi pesto, Chilean seabass, the lunga pasta, the red velvet and a strawberry panacotta. We came with a group of 10 for Mothers Day as they were one of the few restaurants who would take a reservation for a group of our size near Grand Central. First mishap was they didn't have my reservation, although I booked through Resy and had confirmed it via text that morning. Left a bad taste in my mouth, but they still seated our party. We were immediately served meat and cheese, fried zucchini and spicy peppers with bread. All very tasty. Although I asked if we could have more bread and the waitress said "MORE bread?" Like yeah, more bread...we're a table of ten lol. Cesar salad made table side was delicious and everyone generally likes their meals. Biggest issue was three of us ordered the "special" which we were told was a burrata ravioli with vodka sauce but ended up having no burrata in it and instead was just overcooked lobster ravioli? It was very weird, especially since I confirmed there was no meat in it before ordering (I don't eat lobster). It was bizarre and felt like a bait and switch, plus it wasn't very good and the lobster was super overcooked and dry. I liked the dessert display but the tiramisu was awful. Not traditional at all, no coffee flavor and had maple syrup all over it? Very sad about that. The chocolate cake was tasty though. It was a very pricy lunch but worked out mostly ok for our group for the most part. We were basically the only group in the restaurant and the drinks came VERY slowly. The restaurant's server was very welcoming and friendly. The decor of the restaurant dates back to the 1990's but it worked. I had the baked clams which were outstanding. A really great spot and they cater to gluten free ENTRANCE - lunch so the bartender jumped in to check our reservation and to seat us. Was pretty empty so no issue AMBIANCE - very fancy but you can dress casual if you prefer. Nice white table cloths and beautiful plate settings. Sort of an annex to the attached hotel just like Chazz Palmentari's. MENU - very decent overall with a long list of specials all sounded great APPETIZERS - we were a party of 5 and all choices were tasty. The mixed seafood special was exceptional came with a scallop in a great sauce, a beautiful octopus tentacle and a squid body grilled to perfection. The salads (I was told) were quite tasty. ENTREES - I had the porterhouse steak special which to my surprise was really large. Very tender and flavorful. I was informed that the lobster ravioli was excellent. Also the risotto was well made and flavorful. The pork rolatinni was well received but I didn't personally try. SIDES - we shared the asparagus, spinach, and sautéed mushrooms (the best of the 3 but all great) and all enjoyed VINO - the house Cabernet wasn't that great a bit sharp and had an alcoholic finish. Maybe a bottle is a better choice. Despite that I had a few glasses as the steak made a good compliment SERVICE - the actual chef came by and helped with service and was so nice words can't describe. Before the meal treated us to some additional small plates that were great. Some grilled hot peppers, fried zucchini (really good) and a cheese and Supra-sod tapa Our waiter was also nice and congenial DESERT - they had a gluten free cake that was really good. The tiramisu was also excellent. The regular chocolate cake was very good as well PRICE - definitely not for the cost conscience. Total for 5 people with tax and a 25% tip was $765. TLDR: essentially we came for the hella long pasta - the maccheroni all's molinara. Overall it was okay but the service was more memorable. Came here on a weekday evening with a couple of friends and shared the 30 foot pasta, a seafood ravioli, and a bottle of wine. Nothing really special. Restaurant itself reminded me of stuffy formal dinners with my parents or for an event. What was super memorable was the chaotic service. I remember walking in and the staff all talking aggressively to each other but I think this was just how they communicate. I remember they came by with a basket of bread with a bunch of different options and asked us what we wanted. They then gave my friend what they asked for and then just served me and the others whatever they wanted. It was really funny - you get what you get here! We were looking at wines and the waiter asked if we wanted white or red and after we said red he just took our menus and said, "I know what you want." We ended up liking the bottle so I guess he really did know! I loved the theatrics of the cutting and serving of the pasta and they even gave us a few extra ravioli to accommodate all of us.
