This place came highly recommended, so we made sure to fit it into our NOLA trip. We visited on a Sunday for brunch, and I was able to secure a reservation for my group of 12 by calling the morning before. Check-in was a little chaotic...the hostess seemed overwhelmed and kept insisting that our whole group needed to be present, even though we were all there, just browsing the thrift shop across the street while waiting for our table. We ended up waiting about 15-20 minutes past our reservation time, but given how busy it was, we were grateful to have a reservation at all! To start, I ordered a Bloody Mary, which was so tasty and even came with a piece of delicious chicharrón which was such a great touch. My boyfriend and I shared the lox and the Alma breakfast. The salmon on the lox was fresh, but the portion was a little small for the price. The Alma breakfast, on the other hand, was great especially the beans. Wow! So much flavor. Easily the best part of the meal. My boyfriend and I were literally fighting over the last bites! Before leaving, we decided to try the tres leches cake. This version was a bit different from others I've had since it was on the drier side, served in a bowl of milk. An interesting take, and I really enjoyed it! Let me start with this, the food is great. I've enjoyed everything I've eaten here. The issue was the service. My friend (the birthday girl) called a few days before asking if they'd be able to accommodate 15 people. They confirmed that they could so she made a recommendation. Fast forward to the day of our reservation, all 15 of us are there on time to be sat, but they can't seat us yet because there are no available tables. Fine- it happens. However management and some of the servers acted like we were the problem. The manager treated us like we were bothering him by waiting patiently for our reservation. From the time we arrived to the time we got our food was 1.5 hours. They actually weren't able to seat us together. Instead, our group was split into two. This was the first time the person who'd made the reservation was informed that this would happen. She was also informed once arriving that there was a $15/person fee if you byo cake. Our server was fine for the most part. My aguachile dish was good. My friends enjoyed their food and drinks. The space is beautiful. But we were all rubbed the wrong way by the service. read more

Came here for weekday breakfast. Made a reservation but likely not needed for time/day. Interior is welcoming with nice tile painting. Bar is impressive too. Got the chilaquiles which were excellent with the refried beans, pork, half avocado and runny eggs. We also got the lemon ricotta pancakes which were excellent. Even though we had a reservation, we did have to wait about 10-15min for a seat. It was a Sunday, so it was busy. The French toast was great and not overpowered by the taste of alcohol. Enjoyed our experience here a lot! Let me start with service - excellent, couldn't be better, especially considering we were sitting outside by choice. I had the "Adult French toast" with a side order of bacon. I am a bacon connoisseur. Not sure which was better. The bacon, the French toast or all the toppings on the French toast. I am very sad to say that this is the second time I've been to Alma Café and this morning they served me rotten crab on my Louisa toast. I went there back in October and ordered the most expensive thing on the menu once again thinking it would be amazing and it was subpar so I thought I'd try them again today and when my plate came, it smelled like diseased fish. Very sad I wanted everything to be good because I know they have the potential but twice? The first time I paid $46 for the today I said no not again barf, barf, barf! We were asked about what we wanted to drink before we even sat down. Never in my life have I been asked about dessert before biting into my entree. We got a whole bottle of wine and dessert and we were out of the restaurant in about 45 minutes. This was supposed to be a valentine's day dinner. I ended up eating breakfast here every day of my trip to New Orleans, and I am not ashamed. Everyone (hosts servers bartenders runners) was in good spirits all of the time, the food is delicious, the owner was bad ass, and the coffee was amazing. The cocktails are stronggg and well balanced and even though I am on a personal crusade against serving cocktails up (the melting ice is an ingredient in itself okay!! I like my cocktails freezing cold) the "Samantha's absence from last season" was perfect, so I'll allow it. It's a day time restaurant so the vibe was sunny and pretty and fun, much more elegant than some of the other breakfast/lunch places around. Excellent for a day date! What a treat!! We absolutely LOVED Alma, the food, the service, the flavors, ALL fantastic! We came for brunch on a Saturday at 11 am, prepared to wait for a table, but were seated immediately. The coffee was robust. The Bloody Maria was overflowing with accessories, celery, pickled veggies, and a hunk of chicharrone. Sadly, I forgot to take a picture of that! Side order of crispy potatoes had strong thyme taste and was also humongous and definitely needs to be shared if you are ordering an entree as well. Option for indoor or outdoor seating. Note that 20% gratuity is automatically added on for parties of 4 or more (and they will not tell you when they bring you the bill, so be careful not to look over your receipt if there's any question). Menu also states "modifications not suggested" which felt a little weird to put like that, but they were able to accommodate a nut allergy in terms of modifying a menu item. read more

Alma had been on my NOLA list for a minute so I was excited to go here. We went for breakfast/brunch around 11am and there was no wait. Our waitress was so kind and patient with us. I really enjoyed the rum punch and my companion's milk punch was delicious. We ordered breakfast tacos, crispy potatoes, tortillas and red beans and rice. Alma is a Honduran restaurant. The food is very flavorful. This dish is a hot skillet clay bowl with refried beans, mozzarella, chorizo all mixed in with homemade chips. I enjoyed eating here. The service was great and the atmosphere is cute and cozy with an authentic Latin feel to it. Breakfast and lunch is served all day with coffee items, full menu, and mock-tails. ALam cafe is a pleasantly tucked away spot in the Bywater. I went for brunch and from the inside decor, hospitality and food it was a good spot. I had the breakfast tacos that were filled with brisket, eggs, potatoes and slices of avocado on top of a soft pillow top of what was a flower tortilla. The portions are generous and full of flavor. The other item was the chorizo breakfast sandwich with egg. This was also delicious my only suggestion is that they cut the chorizo sausage in half where evenly sprints across the sandwich instead of the two links in the middle of the sandwich that I received but nonetheless, it was still tasty. This is my first time eating at Alma and I will be coming back! The food is very tasty and decently sized portions. I will say the dish that i'm coming back for is the plantain with beans and cheese on top (forgive me I cannot remember the menu item name). It was probably the best thing I have eaten in a very long time. I also had a London fog with a shot of espresso in it, which was also very delicious but nothing outstanding. My mom on the other hand, slurped down her latte within two seconds of it hitting the table. I had the Chilaquiles as my main dish, but I was so full from the plantain I couldn't finish it and unfortunately it wasn't very good to go because of the tortilla chips. So make sure you come hungry here! There were lots of leftovers! I'm giving four stars instead of five because it took an extremely long time to get our check. I saw multiple tables sit down, eat their food, and check out while we were there. The server we had was very helpful when deciding what to order, but did not prioritize certain things (like clearing dirty dishes). Normally, if this was during a busy time, I'd be more understanding, but it was a Monday morning. Waited about 30 minutes for the check after getting to go boxes. I will say if the food wasn't as good as it was I would probably leave 3 stars. Im pretty confused by the ratings of this place. We had great service and excellent agua frescas, but this was the worst and most over priced meal we had in a week in new orleans. We had the bland breakfast tacos and the soft shell crab Benedict with soggy bread and solidified hollandaise . We asked for hot sauce and ketchup and were charged 3.5 without knowing for some special sauce when there was a cart of regular hot sauce inside. After having some of the best brunch in New Orleans here, I felt late to the party. They have a lot of options drink and food wise. The watermelon Fresca was so sweet and refreshing I got 2! I also suggest getting their jalapeño jelly and just dip everything in it. The only problem with the space is that it's crowded (it's popping so makes sense) and there's only one restroom (speaks nothing to the establishment ITSELF obviously). Alma's was in my list for the longest. Had them at a lot of the food festivals and they never disappointed. So I decided to go to the restaurant and omg they do not hold back. Top of the list for brunch, Honduran and all their foods. We came here on a weekend with a friend from out of town and the service was great. Fast super friendly and even though our waiter forgot one of the items he had as very kind to ask if we still wanted it and got it to the table ASAP. The ambiance is cute, with a homie feeling. It almost makes it feel like I am in a café in Honduras. With all the coffee bags and smell of coffee it was great. Now for the food. We had a big order for 3 people. As appetizer we started with some ceviche that was very flavorful we even took the juices back home to serve with some other shrimps. We also had the baleadas sencillas that is a classic Honduran meal and it was top notch with Brisket queso, beans and eggs. Yum. We also had the chicken sandwiches that we have had before that is still fire. Crunchy with the spicy sauce and the other with the Honduran crack sauce. We have been to Alma Cafe for lunch and absolutely loved it. Dinner not so much. It was overly expensive and did not have the Honduran cuisine elements that the lunch/brunch menu features. Think of Ny strip and burgers. Why would I come to Alma for those? Because I assumed their dinner menu is similar to lunch menu. !!! Dont make the same mistake. Did I mention that they charged us $4 for three additional tortillas? I hate it when restaurants get so cheap! It was also not tasteful that we were charged 20% tip automatically even though it was just the three of us. Their written policy is to charge it for parties 4 and more. I never tip less than 20%, but it pissed me off that they're felt like charging us. Not sure I will be back. Tonight's experience left a sour taste in my mouth. read more
