I returned for a re-examination and waited another two weeks. When I came back today to pick up the new glasses, the frame was extremely wide. The staff tried to adjust it, but it didn't help. When I asked to try another pair (wanted to compare) I was told that it was only the display frame and that if I wanted a brand-new one, I needed to specify that. This was the first time in all the years I've been a patient that I heard something like this. I said that a brand-new frame would be great. I paid over $400 after insurance (which is very good), and now I'm expected to accept glasses that will only become wider after a few weeks of wear. In total, I was charged $115 for a visit that never occurred. This was the first appointment I have ever missed since beginning treatment with Dr. Mastman. Despite that, the staff showed zero empathy or willingness to work with me, even after acknowledging the initial overcharge. For patients who work hard, live paycheck to paycheck, and try to do the right thing, this kind of rigid and punitive billing practice feels exploitative. Doctors' offices should not operate in a way that financially penalizes patients without consideration or fairness--especially when mistakes are made on their end. A successful healthcare practice requires not only technical skill but also strong communication, empathy, and professionalism.
