Dr.Tran is our sons's favorite doctor. Our son has been seeing Dr.Tran for 3 years now. He started OrthoK treatment at 1st grade and we are lucky to have found him. Dr.Tran is very knowledgeable and takes his time to explain his observations during all visits. He also makes sure that he address all our concerns at every appointment. Our son is very active and can get distracted, Dr. Tran always takes the time to make him comfortable by talking about his interests and patiently answers every single question our son has before he completes the visit . An example of an interaction - our son once took a Pokemon doll to an appointment and after it was over, they both spend time checking out its eye with the actual instruments and also tried putting some lenses on. OMG! Dr Tran went above & beyond! Just moved to San Jose from SF so don't have regular eye Dr yet. I wear a scleral contact lens that got stuck in my eye on a Saturday 3pm. After striking out w 20+ phone calls to anyone who would take me-- Dr Tran to the rescue!! I wasn't his patient, my insurance plan doesn't include urgent eye care-- but he saw me anyway! He stayed late to wait for me-- saw me immediately--and didn't charge me. He said, "It took me 5 minutes." WOW! I've been coming here since I was a kid, back when Dr. Lisa Ko was my optometrist. I got my first pair of glasses when I was about 8 years old, so I've been a patient for over 20 years now. After Dr. Joey Tran took over a few years ago, I've been seeing him for the past 3-4 years. Both Dr. Ko and Dr. Tran are professional and friendly, and the front desk staff have always been great about scheduling and explaining what my insurance covers. I believe they can also mail your glasses and contacts, which is super convenient. I typically go in for routine exams and pick up a 3-month supply of daily contacts. I've always wanted to buy glasses from their office but never got around to it. When I lived in Vegas for a few years, I would usually fly back to San Jose for my optometrist and dentist appointments because I'm always a happy customer. Although I've since moved to Florida and now Southern California, I would return to this office in a heartbeat if I were back in the area--or even make a trip just to see Dr. Joey Tran for my routine eye exam. read more

Won't be leaving any time soon. They've always been pleasant to work with. They solidified my loyalty when I brought my boys in, and my eldest swore he was going to need glasses. I think someone knows he looks good in glasses because his exam came back 20/20..lol. Dr. Ko could have said he did and got me for $200+ for some glasses, but she didn't. I wouldn't have known the difference. My son said he felt maybe his eyes needed it. Looks like he may need bluelight glasses at most and to do periodic eye exercises. All I needed was for the doc to say "yep, he should get some" and I woulda handed my card over. Knowing THAT kid I would have been out a pretty penny..wonder where he gets it from?!?! I wanted to share some feedback regarding my recent visit. When I arrived as a walk-in, no one acknowledged me or offered assistance. The front desk staff member was on her phone and talking with her coworker, and after waiting for about 10 minutes with no greeting or update, I had to get up and ask for help again. At that point, I was told that walk-ins weren't expected, something that could have been communicated when I first arrived, so I didn't have to wait. When I asked to make an appointment, I was left standing there in silence until I asked if it was confirmed. She seemed surprised, as if she hadn't noticed me standing in front of her the entire time. It was incredibly dismissive and is not an appropriate way to treat any customer. I hope this feedback can help improve your front desk's customer service because I came in as a potential new customer, but I will not be going back. read more

I don't often do yelp reviews, but this business needs a shout out from a very happy customer. Let me first start by saying that I had my prescription done at Oakridge mall. I was extremely interested in getting PURPLE transition lenses as that is my very favorite color and, well, it's the little things in life that make me happy. The eye doctor in the mall said they had never heard of purple transitions, but told me to take my prescription to a different store to shop around. I took my prescription to Lens Crafters. They had heard of purple transitions, but unfortunately my insurance wasn't accepted there. We also noticed that the eye doctor who did my exam put a different address on my prescription. This caused me concern because I know for a fact that there is another lady with my name as several people have told me. I went back to the first doctor to ensure they gave me the correct prescription and they told me it was correct, and to just write in my address. After making several calls to other eye specialists, I ended up finding Family Vision Center as their lab would make my purple transitions. When I picked up my new glasses, I was frustrated that the first doctor did indeed give me the wrong prescription. Family Vision Center was so kind in resending my glasses for a redo, at no charge! All the staff are so kind and helpful. In the future, I will only come here for my exams and glasses. read more

Your first impression is a clean, roomy practice and meeting a young, handsome, friendly Dr. Joey Tran. But you soon realize that this young doctor has the wisdom of someone twice his age practicing for 30 years. He is very serious and concerned about your eye symptoms and will investigate thoroughly and conscientiously taking quality time to diagnose the disorder (in my case). Then he will possibly study up in a book what exact medication and prescription strength he should best describe. For example I have been to 2 other eye doctors in the past few months who have misdiagnosed my eye disease and have prescribed steroids and antibiotic eye drops which were too strong and "like shooting a canary with cannons" which could have affected my eyesight negatively down the road with possible glaucoma and vision loss. My luck has it that my corneas are hosting a rare, recurrent and chronic Thygesone's dystrophy which will last for years if not decades. {Side note: Bingo!!! Thank you... next... it sucks to get old}! He prescribed the correct dosage strength of steroid eye drops and explained how to correctly administer them - as simple as "please shake the bottle every time before use otherwise the particles will have settled on the bottom and you might only get a diluted dosage." Wow - what a revelation!?! How thorough is that? Then his friendly office assistant scheduled me for a follow-up visit in 4 weeks and I was in and out of the door in 30 minutes. Dr. Joey Tran is a Berkeley graduate, highly educated but very humble and the best man to efficaciously entrust your and/ or your family's eye concerns. read more
