Let me start off with the fact that I love Dr Dear! He has always been kind and thorough, I appreciate that. As for the front staff, I am surprised by the lack of professionalism and bad attitude towards their patients / customers. I have been a long time patient of Dr Dear, I have purchased at least 2 frames from the office and have had them sent out, lenses put into frames at least 4 times. This current experience just has not been sitting right with me, from beginning, setting up the appointment to picking up my frames, the end. Also please note that this business is currently by appointment only, when you arrive the door is locked from the inside. While that is fine for safety or what not, dont treat your patients like idiots when they dont know and attempt to open the door. There is a sign on the door but you know..... professionalism. I did not find anything from their frame selection so I opted to purchase frames from elsewhere and bring them back for lenses. We'll, again since its appointment only, every time I've had to go back I had to make an "appointment" regardless of if it takes 10 minutes to pay for the lenses with front staff or a 30 second rushed handoff of frames that they just had lenses put in. It really makes me think twice about going back. Prior to this experience, eveything had been quick, easy and efficient, but not this time. read more

Looked around for a local eye doctor, accepting new patients and came across In Focus. Glad I did! Friendly, attentive front office - Adrienne knows her stuff! Transparent about pricing. Dr Dear did a thorough eye exam and yikes I've got a lot of eye stuff going on. Better to know than not know and better address it before it becomes a larger issue. Dr. Dear was so kind, warm, professional, knowledgeable, and thorough with our annual eye exam and gave us so much insight on our eye issues. The receptionist was super friendly and helpful. Big fan of In focus, got a pair of glasses with them about 3 years ago and really appreciate the staff and optometrist at the time. The eye exam was smooth and the turn around was about 3 weeks or so. Professional staff given the area of course slightly leaning more towards the family friendly side which I like! Professional and friendly! I have recently gone back covid era and got an adjustment and accessories for the same pair of glasses and OD Choi has since left and now a different staff. Bummed that Dr. Choi left and the staff are professional and very helpful. This little shopping center is very quiet since the covid with plenty of parking throughout the parking lot. I walked in looking to browse and purchase new frames awhile back. The place was relatively empty at the time and I was being helped by a woman, adrian? I believe her name is, and was not happy with my service at all. I felt like I was being cut off, and her tone was a bit condescending, almost like I was being told I didn't really know what I wanted. Dr. Dear is an excellent and caring optometrist. My daughter has migraines, and I didn't know that there was an option for a migraine lens until Dr. Dear recommended for her. Previously, we had a different optometrist; however, she didn't mention that there was a migraine lens and had recommended adding blue light to the lens. Additionally, Dr. Dear was able to fit my entire family's appointments in one day, so it was very convenient. For my son, Adrienne took the time to find the perfect frame for him. I often feel hesitant to do an annual checkup before because the waiting time is often 3x longer than the time you get to talk to the doctor, but this is an exception. We loved that they had professionals on hand to help us choose glasses suited to our facial features and special needs. I was looking for an Optometrist that was closer to where I lived and I found In Focus through VSP list. Saw that they had great reviews on Yelp and made an appointment. I like when small businesses have a website and there's is informative. I was scheduled with Dr. Drenth and he was really nice and professional. He's been there for over 20 years! 98% of the time I wear contacts and I have a very strong prescription. Good news was my vision didn't change enough to get new glasses. He wrote me a contacts and glasses prescription (just in case.) I double checked with Costco on pricing and it come out to the same at this office. With my VSP allowance I ended up ordering it through them and it was shipped to me for free. They also use Square for payment processing which makes me like how tech advanced they are! read more

Solid place. Both dr Dear and Dr Choi are great to deal with. Especially nice with children. The assistants are awesome, they figure out the insurance situation without you having to do much. Thy always try to find you ways to safe and adjust to your budget. Only draw back: paper history still, and Drs are not here every day, they have other office. I highly recommend InFocus Optometry. I am a lapsed customer but I saw them about 15 years ago and have come back after some other eye exam experiences. Dr Dear is extremely thorough and they are also very caring. I have a good rapport with them and it's very straight forward. Dr Dear is highly knowledgeable and he made my contact lens exam very comfortable for me, and I can trust the prescription. Dr Dear is very "dear" to use a dad joke... Dr Dear also reminded me to use FSA first - while not necessary - it was very considerate. You know they care about your overall well being. I brought my kids here too and they had a good experience. I have also seen Dr Choi most often when I was a college student at SJSU, and we often had good conversations which made my visits pleasant and memorable, even to this day. Only giving one star because I cannot rate at 0. My experience was good up until I received my glasses, which were worse than the old ones. So they sent them to be fixed, and while marginally better, they don't fit right. To make matters worse, they sold me computer glasses in addition to the progressive trifocals and what a waste! Another $500 for glasses I don't need, but got sold on. My fault there, but this is hands down the least competent optometrist I have been to, and considering all others I have see were before I needed glasses that is saying something! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!! I just threw out my new glasses...my old ones are still better!!! read more

Dr. Dear and the staff here are great! The assistant is very thorough when answering questions and she is very friendly. They are also very clean and are very cautious during this pandemic- temp checks and sanitizing/disinfecting everything before and after a patient touches anything including glasses to try on! They were kind enough to fit me in their schedule multiple times throughout the course of 3 weeks and were super friendly and helpful when I had to take my baby with me to my appointment. I am nervous when going anywhere during these times but they take excellent safety measures which put me at ease and for that I am so thankful for them. I've been going to Dr. Dear for almost 3 years now. I had only gone to Kaiser before, but my dad found InFocus through the VSP list. I have to admit, I was a little skeptical at first since it was such a small office, but any worries I had quickly melted away after meeting Brenda (not to mention their office has Saturday appointments!). She and Priscilla are both so sweet and helpful, even with helping you pick out new glasses frames! They also do a great job at explaining what your insurance covers etc and for those with contacts/ glasses, they help explain which will be covered best/ most by your insurance. Dr. Dear is very down to earth. He had a frank, but kind conversation with me about how wearing my contacts as much as I have been, is affecting my eyes. He's very patient and knowledgable- I always feel like I'm well informed about what tests he's doing and what he's checking for (and finding). Great office!! read more

Wow! Just left from our first visit to this office. My daughter was out of contacts and needed an updated prescription, they were able to get her in right away and set her up with a pair to wear home. When I asked if they could possibly set up my 10 year old son for a contact fitting they worked him in as well. The office staff was very welcoming and processed our paperwork very quickly. There was less than five minutes of wait time to see the doctor. The girl who sat with my son for contact training was very patient and explained to him so effectively that he was able to get them in and out very comfortably in no time at all!
