Yes, I made a yelp account specifically to talk about my stay this past Sunday at the Aloft Cancun. We got there early and the lady at the front desk was very helpful and actually gave us an early check in, this turned out to be the only positive from the stay. As soon as the elevator to our hall opened there was a pungent smell of paint in the air. While walking down the hallway there was trash all over the floor as if it hadn't been vacuumed in weeks. My buddy and I shrugged it off thinking maybe they hadn't cleaned up from a crazy Saturday the night before. As we got in the room to put our things away we noticed that there was no fridge which is always a minus when staying in Mexico as bottled water, never mind cold bottled water is a must. Anyway we lounged in the room for a bit while it was raining and then decided to get ready for our dinner reservations and to head out for the night. I go in first to use the toilet and noticed that it wouldn't flush and filled to the brim with water. I decided to hop in the shower and try again when I got out. While I'm the shower, the shower starts to fill up like a bathtub. Once the toilet starting to go down, the shower decided to go down as well. As soon as I got out I called the front desk to assess the situation. In ten minutes there were three people in my bathroom pulling the toilet seat apart. I called the front desk to figure out what was going on in which I was told to hold on while they fix it OR to allow my roommate to shower and then have them come back while we're gone to fix the situation. Which was obviously not going to happen as all our unlocked luggage was in the room. After the man on the phone talked to the plumber and then I assume his boss, he agreed to move us rooms as our dinner reservations were right around the corner. With the smell of paint in the air, they moved us four doors down. From the second we walked in the room we could tell it had just been "made." There were no towels, the magazines from the desk were on the floor and our "sheets" were a worn out yellow duvet with one sheet on top. No duvet cover. After opening the sheets there were long black hairs all over it. While my roommate had called the towels to be brought up to the room, a worker brought two towels that seemed to have been left from the previous hotel. The towels looked to be 10 years old. After getting out of the shower my roommate opened the towel to dry himself off, just to find a dark "muddy" stain all over one side of the towel. By this time we had enough and just wanted to get to our dinner reservations. We went out for dinner and for a few drinks on the town after. The next morning we were woking up at 7 in the morning to banging on the walls as if they were fixing all the surrounding rooms. It seemed as if the whole floor and possibly the hotel was still in the middle of renovations. I have never had an experience like this before and do not recommend this hotel to anyone. This was the worst hotel experience of my life. I have stayed at numerous Aloft hotels over the years and expect quality and class. This experience was all but that. Until ALL renovations are complete this hotel should not be open. I am very disappointed and even though I would not expect this from other Aloft's, I will be sure to take my money elsewhere the next time. read more

24 hours before my flight to Cancun aloft Cancun cancelled my hotel reservation for no reason. No phone call just an email. A few hours later they followed up with an email requesting I check in I figured they had solved their issue. 1200 miles later while standing in the hotel I find out that they cancelled it cause they are overbooked and my rate was too good. They offered to book me at a cut rate hotel on the other side of Cancun and said that is their policy. I spent 3 hours nearly midnight working with customer service to be told tough luck. Used to be great hotel, not any more. Now they pretend that reservations not paid and charge you a new rate that is 1.5x higher. So you pay 2.5x price. This is innovation by me manager Armando. Waited over 1 hour at reception instead of simply getting the key and going to the room. Armando and team makes your hotel stay a torture. The staff was really nice, room was clean quiet and Air conditioned. Very convenient locations , right around the corner from all the nightlife , from a super market, and right across the st from the ferry taking you to Isla Mujeres. Wifi was fast, they also held our storage and accidentally lost a hat, the staff was super nice and they located it for us. The only thing that wasn't great was the breakfast, everything looked like it was sitting out there a while and some things had gone bad. It's $13 per person, if you are in a hurry you can settle for it since it's a buffet, but if you have time definitely eat elsewhere. read more

The location is perfect and in the middle of everything. To the right Coco Bongo and all the night life and to the right shopping/spas/food. Rooms were clean and accommodating but nothing fancy. Bar and restaurant downstairs which is always nice. Connected to the convention center which offers multiple entrances. Parking is a bit tight but valet is there to help. So, due to the plethora of 3 star reviews this Hotel has, you must be wondering "5 stars?! Is this girl on crack?!" First of all, ganja, and second of all, they offered me a lifetime supply of Modelo Especiale and carnitas, so I had to take the deal. Here goes nothing. Remember, white people - people in foreign countries are NOT your servants, despite what our torrid history has made you think. It's actually NOT all about you. PRO's - despite what Emily H says (she must have gotten lost), the beach is exactly a 53 second walk from the front door of your hotel to the beach (seriously, I timed it). - staff is really helpful when asked about authentic restaurants out of the hotel zone, and whether or not going to Tulum or Chichen Itza was worth the day long excursion. - free wifi, rooms were clean. sure, its humid - you're in paradise, remember? Staff is attentive but needed to be reminded once or twice (fine, don't care - I was too busy getting hammer-faced in paradise), and the lobby, bar, and "nook" restaurant were well-maintained, clean, and had excellent food. - you are literally a 2-3 minute walk from Congo, Coco Bongo, La Vaquita, Palazzo, Mandala, Dady O's, Dassan Gentlemans Club, and other night life spots. No sketchy taxi rides with perverts when you've had way too many drinks late at night and your dress is way too short, even for Mexico. - take the ferry to Isla Mujeres from Punta Sam/Juarez, nowhere else. They cannot accommodate your car, but it is far cheaper of a ferry ride to the island. You can rent a golf cart on the island for 500 peso for the day (40$ US)\ - Once again, I don't know if some people got lost, but if you walk around, you will find restaurants that are clearly not built for the hotel zone. Also, if you see locals eating a restaurant, then you know despite the fact that it is maybe a bit touristy, it will be delicious. - Supermarket is immaculate and reasonably priced. Great for picking up snacks, booze, and other stuff you need? - For all you basics - there is starbucks around the corner from the hotel. But I recommend the café inside of the flea market across from Casa Tequila. I also recommend Casa Tequila for strong drinks, and great tacos. - get Chorizo with everything. Chorizo and eggs? Check. Chorizo in a taco? Check. Chorizo in a soup? Check, and check. - Mextreme, Hiroya Ramen Bar, Casa Tequila, and the various carts and vendors are all delicious. - I really liked the bar Monkey Business. It's chill, not obnoxious, and the bartender Israel is so hot I almost stayed in Mexico, if only to be a notch on his belt. Carlos and Charlies looked like it would give me a stroke, and anything that Frat guys like, I tend to stay away from - so that means Fat Tuesdays, Senor Frogs (the MOST OVERRATED BAR ON THE PLANET), and Carlos and Charlies were out for me. - if you like to dance, go out late-ish, like 11-12, most places are open until 3-4, depending on the day. - Negotiate all prices for everything (except restaurants) and always put packages of stuff together and offer a more reasonable price. ALSO - many vendors prefer US dollar, so get used to being able to do exchange rates in your head - I found that 100% of the time it was cheaper to pay in PESO, so be careful. A lot of places will say "1 peso = 10 dollar" but the exchange rate is more like "1 peso = 14 dollar", so they intentionally or not, try to overcharge you in dollar. CON's - people will harass you CONSTANTLY to buy their shit. Excusions, trips, handicrafts, Cocaine (got offered 10 times, seriously) I think it's because I have a sleeve tattoo and someone told me sleeves on women equate to cartel stuff. Everyone wants to give you a tattoo, and everyone wants to show you their "shop", but you "don't have to buy" uh huh. Sure. - the shower leaked on the floor and had to put a (long, white person "Im dissatisfied" sigh) towel on the floor in front of the shower. We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights while we were in Cancun. Every one in this hotel is so friendly. The front desk people are so polite and helpful. This hotel is located in a very convenient location. Next to convention center, supermarket, flee market and many delicious restaurants. All are walking distance. Yes, this hotel is not on the Beach, but it is just a block away. Very close. They have an Atm machine right next to the front desk. So easy to have money out from my bank and safe. The room is very clean. The bed is comfortable. If I go back to Cancun, I DEFINITELY will stay here again. Yes, I highly recommended. read more

This is a perfect location to stay at if your coming to cancun for vacation. The maids are wonderful and clean the rooms very well. They are good when you need extra toiletries, water bottles and towels. The front desk and concierge is very helpful. We didn't expect our king room to be tile floors, it's very cold to walk on so the maids laid out towels along the tiles so that we didn't have to have our feet freeze. They also made us a nice towel animal. The only thing I suggest is never ever have anything that has ice cubes or foods that are cooked with their water. My BF and I got really sick the last day and still suffering days later. Also the hotel has the rooftop pool which you'll probably stay in most of the time because the ocean gets old. Even though the hotel isn't ocean front the beach is right across the street. It is 5 metres away from the grocery store and pharmacy. Unlike the all in resorts here you are walking distance to every single thing you'll need. Food, clothes, swim gear, etc. most of the other all in resorts are too far from the beaches that the locals consider good for swimming. And you will be taking the bus often if you stay at the further out locations. Also when you leave the airport do not use the shuttle services if you can avoid it. Haggle with a taxi man. They'll do 25USD. AND going back to airport 25USD also. Many of the tours people will take you can always negotiate prices also. Staff are nice however the hotel itself is terrible! If you want to feel that you're showering in a swamp then go ahead. The towels are stained (gross). The bed sheets smell. The whole hotel smells like humidity. The bathrooms are the worst part, they are moldy and the tiles are yellow. The smell coming from the drain is absolutely disgusting. This Aloft does not live up to the brand. I've stayed at the Aloft in Dallas, which was 10x better. My boyfriend has stayed at maybe 4-5 different Alofts, and he claims that this one is by far the worst. Room: The room was alright. It looked like it was trying to be modern, but was too shabby to pull it off. The bathroom door was a sliding piece of glass... leaving no real privacy between you and the room. You can hear everything. Pool: The area seemed sparse and underwhelming. The one pro is the beautiful view from the roof. They were low on towels, and we had to wait 10-15 minutes to get even one towel. Restaurant aka the Nook: We had breakfast there, and the food was decent. No complaints. This hotel is a place where nightmares are made. I expected (at least) the basic cleanliness and upkeep of any other Starwood property. I am a SPG, have stayed at many Starwood's and this is by far, the worst. The staff is very nice. The hotel is dingy as can be. Dirty, needs major update and reno. It looks like it was built in 2002 and never looked at/ touched/ updated/ cleaned ever again. I stayed in a suite on the 10th floor - the couch was filthy & stained, the lighting was old and depressing. Hallways smelled like urine, the rugs/ carpet were just so dirty. One block from the beach and located / connected to the convention center. Secure elevators and you have to have a key to get up stairs. They also included a free breakfast if you have status. The pool is upstairs and has large umbrellas for shade. They do have a happy hour with a food menu. The pool is a little smaller. The WiFi works wonderful !!! Bottle water is free in the rooms. The Aloft location cannot be beat. Right next to Cocobongo, all the clubs/bars, across from one of the best supermarkets, and free valet (worth 3500 pesos). Wow! I wish I stayed at this hotel all week. The staff were very courteous when going in. They offered me the free breakfast and points (I'm SPG Platinum) off the bat, so the recognition was great. They set us up in a decent room facing the water (which is blocked with construction), but it was comfortable. The room is on par with other Aloft SPG properties. Not a ton of amenities, but the gym was better than a traditional Aloft for sure. The bar/restaurant had reasonable prices, and the rooms were clean, comfortable, and efficient. As for location, you cannot beat this place. Perfect spot for a bachelor/ette party. 5 minutes walking distance to anything in the city without having to cab. This will be my #1 pick purely for location when I'm in QR Cancun again. I've tried the Westin Lagunamar, and while that is more beautiful with the beach/pool, Aloft wins hands down for convenience. read more

I came to meet up my friends before we went out. The manager ask me to pay $35 just to go up to their room since I wasn't a guest. So are visitors not welcomed? I was staying at JW Marriott and had a room key to prove it but he was not accommodating. I didn't know Aloft policies were different. Aren't they part of the Marriott brand now? read more

Aloft Cancun - The ambience and my company for brunch at the Nook Restaurant in Cancun in the Aloft Hotel lobby - Hotels Near Me - Cancun, ROO

Stayed at Aloft last week for spring break with a group of 16 for 5 nights. As a disclaimer, Aloft isn't all-inclusive and isn't one of those hotels by/with a private beach, which was fine with us because we were able to explore the food scene and visit the beaches regardless (~3 min walk away). The hotel is super close (~2-3 min walk) to all the night clubs (Coco Bongo, Mandala, Palazzo, etc.), which is super convenient! First impressions from the lobby is that it's relatively modern. The employees at check-in were knowledgeable, friendly and also spoke English. They accommodated most of our group by putting us on the same floor. Upon arriving in our room, we realized that they gave us a room with 2 beds when we booked a room with 1 king size bed. When we called the front desk, we were rudely treated and the woman on the phone was unwilling to compromise or offer any other options. We went to the lobby and after arguing with the front desk, were switched to a room with 1 king size bed, even though the woman on the phone denied that it was a possibility. In addition to that incident, the towels were old, gray and frayed and were not changed everyday. The water pressure of the shower is SO weak and at times, the water stopped completely. The temperature of the water ranged from freezing cold to burning hot and no in-between. I didn't notice anything wrong with the bed/sheets then, but now that we're back in the States, most of the people in our group have weird rashes on our skin. The room was freezing cold most of the time - I didn't notice if the temperature changes because I usually just turned it off completely when it got too cold. There's a very tiny gym with free water, a sauna and a steam room on the 4th floor. There are ice machines on every floor but you'd have to venture to various floors to find one that actually works. On the last few days, the hallways and rooms smelled toxic because they were painting in the hallway. On the last day, there were loud noises (sounded like vacuuming or furniture moving) coming from the room above us at 9am. I expected much better for the price we paid, especially because Aloft is under SPG. Aside from the location, I was completely disappointed by my experience here. If you're reading this, I suggest you to look elsewhere for somewhere to stay in Cancun. read more

Hotels of nightmares. Me and my best friend came here on Sunday we were previously staying at another hotel which was amazing. It this hotels just sucks ! Check in was okay the service wasn't great. It more like a meh experience. For the price you would expect a little better. But NOPE ! This place is a disgusting and dirty. The sheets have make up and blood stains all over it. And as if that wasn't enough. The air conditioner you can make it lower it just keeps going back to 19 Celsius ! We asked for a blanket and was told with an attitude that we have one already. Well we told them it's cold and they said they don't have blankets what ? so we asked for another cover which turned out to a be a blanket they were only willing to give us one ! No more than that. First time I heard of that. Room cleaning never came. So we had to call for two towels everyday which they only gave one ! The air conditioner gets too cold I know Cancun is extremely hot and humid but man the air conditioner was too high that I wasn't able to lower it I was only able to turn it off. So it's either I freeze to death and sleep with a hoodie or melt. There is two elevators the one on the left hasn't seem to work throughout our whole stay so far. Aloft & SPG is such a big company you would think they would fix it why nope too darn cheap ! Sometimes the security would be nice enough to escort us to the employee elevator. The rooms are extremely shabby the walls are just ugly and dented my dad can do a better job than that. The blankets, towels, sheets, pillows are garbage it's so rough and so much pilling on it yikes ! And that's not the worst of it all. The drain gets clog and the water just don't go down until and hour after you shower wonderful right ? And that isn't all everything in the shower is dirty as crap and rusty as hell. The iron doesn't work for the hell of it. It leaks water out. And the hair dryer it's Conair ! The hair dryer you get from Walmart it's rusted and tangled with hair disgusting ! Basically it's old ! Oh the bathroom door slides and it doesn't slide all the way ! Watch out. Our room phone didn't work so we never got to call room service. but I wouldn't dare to try it cause you'll never see anyone at the restaurant. There are so many things bad things to say about this hotel but the only good side is that it's a 5 min walk to mandala beach club, coco bongo, hard rock, hooters and other night clubs. Only reason why I stayed here. Overall the hotel is garbage. It wasn't worth what I paid for nor is it even worth $50 a night. This place is worst than a motel. A motel might be even better than it. This hotel does not have immediate beach access. You have to walk across the street for that and you're limited for public access. The only real good think about the location of this hotel is at the back of it has all types of shopping and restaurants conveniently located. Service is OK, but the cleanliness of this hotel is atrocious. I honestly don't believe the sheets on our bed were changed at all. When we did request to have them changed they were very rough on the skin. Their pillows are extremely hard, if you like that, but my neck was sore the entire time. Breakfast was not even good - how do you mess that up? Their pool is located on the roof top, which can provide a nice view come sunset time. read more

Stayed here last year for my 25th birthday. Check in was a breeze, they require a credit card to check in. Room was clean, sheets were clean. Room had AC. Hotel has a rooftop pool with a bar! and the best part is that this hotel is located MINUTES away from all the clubs/bars and shops. Also,The beach is across the street from the hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel if you like the nightlife and like to be within walking distance to restuarants, bars/clubs, shops for memoribilia etc. Also this hotel is within walking distance to a HUGE market. Staff during my stay was friendly! Wifi is shitty in the rooms but works great in the lobby/downstairs area. read more

This hotel is more for a college student or someone that just wants to save money. We stayed on the top floor and it was basic. The room was small and tight. They have one restaurant that is always empty. We did go for breakfast one morning and it was okay. The lobby is set up more for the younger crowd. They also have a small bar and market type store in the lobby. The staff was very nice. Oh they don't have a beach but there are two beaches in walking distance about 5 minutes. I recommended going down to Mandela beach. It's bigger, they have lawn chairs and umbrella you can rent. Also, the restaurant on the beach sells food and drinks. People walk around selling souvenirs. read more

Aloft Cancun is a nice trendy, affordable hotel located on the northern end of the hotel zone. Though it's not located by the beach, it is very close to a public beach and also is well located to explore downtown Cancun. In addition, they have a tie up with a nearby club, Mandala, which allows guests to use their beach and bar facilities for $30/day. One of the highlights of the stay here was the free bicycle rentals. That's a really neat way to explore the nearby areas. I also loved the rooftop pool and bar, which is a great place to view the sunset. And once you're tired from a day of being out on the beach or exploring the city, you can relax your sore muscles at the sauna or steam room at the gym that's accessible 24 hours a day. read more

No clue why everyone complains about this place. It's nice, clean and reasonably priced. The staff was great and the bed was very comfortable. It's not on the beach. But, it's in a great location with restaurants, the best clubs, a great super marketand the beach all an easy walk away. Maybe people don't like that it is modem. So, if you want a modern hotel and are ok with it not being on the beach - book it. If you need to be on the beach or don't like modern - don't. read more

Noisy! We stayed here for one night and there was music blaring until midnight. We were one the 9th floor and could hear everything. Not sure if we were directly under the laundry room but could here furniture moving above us and things rolling around the floor. The front desk was terrible and unhelpful. The only good part of this place was the great Margarita I had at the bar and a pretty delicious quesadilla. If you are under 25 and looking to party this is your place. read more

Not sure why everyone complains about this place, it's great! You get what you pay for, if you want luxury beds and all the amenities, go to all the 5 stars hotels nearby and pay double what you pay for here! Aloft was great for our vacation because we just needed a place to sleep comfortably with reasonable amenities (roof top pool was great!). We were out all day exploring or going to the beach club next door to lounge around. The hotel was in the best location, convenient to everything (bus and ferry right across the street) and the BEST grocery store (Selecto) next door. I would stay here again definitely! If you want to just lay around the pool and beach,eat and drink all day, don't stay here, go do that at an all inclusive place! If you have a lot of excursions planned and won't be at your hotel except to sleep, definitely stay here, great value and comfort! read more

Great location, in the heart of cancun, near the street of night club. Worthy hotel for the price(we get it with slightly more than a hundred dollar per day). The room is bigger than i thought, neat and clean. However, the hotel is lack of service and the room is fancy but looks cheap(like an inn). I expect a better decorations since it's a member of Starwood. The bathroom is way too simple and lack of facility. Do realize it's not as good as other SPG hotel, but worth the price. Plus, the guy in front desk is so cute. read more

Stayed here one night. No US dollars are accepted here...learned that the hard way. Location is great. Walking distance to tourists shops for souvenirs and restaurants. However there is a pungent mildew smell all over this hotel. I'm not too sensitive to smells but I found it hard to sleep with that strong odor. Continued to linger on even after I sprayed Febreeze and lysol. Otherwise rooms are clean and the staff is very helpful and friendly. They offer admission to the Mandalay Bay Beach Club for about $20 US dollars which you get back when you purchase food and drinks at the beach club. I delined once I saw the beach covered in algae. If I could leave 0 stars, trust me, I would. I really wanted to love this hotel because its right in the center of the hotel zone night life but it seems like everything was bad since I got here to check in. First, the man who checked us in didn't even acknowledge us and/or say hello or good afternoon. He just asked us to come forward and ignored us. I looked at his computer screen and he was playing a game!!!!!!!!! Painting a cat!!! Are you kidding me??? How old are you??? He was just plain rude. Once he finished painting it then he went to look for my reservation. That was a complete joke. I never felt so humiliated before. That some coloring page for kids would be more important than taking care of a paying customer. But whatever. Second, when we asked them to do the cleaning and change the sheets, they did not change the sheets. When we got into bed late at night I noticed we had the same sheets as the night before because i had stained the sheets with makeup. I was so upset but I didn't do anything about it since it was late and I just wanted to sleep. The next morning I was woken up by construction on the floor above us. This was just terrible. You can hear things being dragged and drilled. I will NEVER be staying at this hotel again. All these things are unacceptable!!! Pros: Great hotel, great location, roof top pool, clean, modern, exercise room, swim up bar. Cons: Bathroom doors do not close all the way so there is no privacy and staff are polite but not helpful when it comes to getting advice or referring you to someone that can inform you about tours and other things in the area. I had a truly terrible experience at Aloft Cancun. Oddly enough, the problem was related to the valet parking. As a result of careless Aloft staff, I was accused of something I didn't do, and I feared for my safety in the hotel. I arrived at about 10 one evening in November 2016 and left my rental car with the valet. I received a call two hours later (waking me up) asking where the car key was. I said I'd left it in the ignition. When I left for a run early the next morning, a white car similar to mine was sitting just where I had left my car in front of the hotel. I asked whose car it was. The valet staff said it was mine. They said they'd seen me get out of the car, retrieve a bag from the trunk, and depart without leaving the key. Problem is, that was impossible. I had arrived but never retrieved anything from the trunk. And I had definitely left the car in the ingnition. They further claimed that the hotel's video surveillance system had shown me leaving the car and retrieving the bag. I insisted that they show me the video. The security manager arrived claiming to have seen me leave the car there, but for reasons unknown he would not show me the video. Obviously, a deeply unpleasant and accusatory conversation ensued. This all made no sense. They were saying I'd done things which I had not done. Not knowing what to do, I left for my run fearing for my safety and wondering what kind of a scam this could be. It made no sense. Were they trying, somehow, to steal the car? I resolved on returning from the run to call my company's security contractor to come keep me safe from whatever the valet and security staff were trying to do. I'd let them deal with the local police. When I arrived, the staff informed me they'd figured out this was not my car after all. It took them from midnight the previous night to seven the next morning to figure out they had the wrong guy - and that's only after waking me in the middle of the night and hollering at me the next morning. Of course, I asked immediately to speak with the hotel manager. I was told that she would arrive at 9, so I left a message asking her to call. When I departed the hotel at 8, a different team was a the front desk, and I also asked them to to please have the hotel manager call me. I returned that night at 8 pm. I got a call at about 9 from the concierge apologizing for waking me the previous night, but he didn't know about the experience from that morning. The hotel manager never did contact me. Her lack of commitment to customer service was obviously reflected in the respect shown to this customer by the security and parking staff. In the end, of course, there was no scam and my security was never endangered. But a better organized and more thoughtful staff would have figured that out way before this misunderstanding became a crisis. And even after the eruption, any hotel manager who cared about bad reviews would have made at least some effort to pacify an upset customer. None was made. This hotel was clean and cheap. I'd encourage you to stay someplace else, but if you have no choice, you'll probably survive the Aloft. But don't have the valet park your car. read more
