Big fan of Hawaiian food and I was really hoping this would be good. I ordered the full sized loco moco and a musubi. I came in around 3:00pm so between the lunch and dinner crowds. The menu was all of the standard Hawaiian dishes, which was totally fine, I actually appreciate when places stick to their foods and don't try to cram a bunch of random stuff into the menu. The place was nicely "Hawaiian" themed and clean. So this is what knocked off some stars. Unfortunately the rice in both my dishes was extremely dry. To the point where a couple bites almost crunched. For Hawaiian dishes where rice is so much of the dish, this really made the meal not so great. On the plus side the two beef patties in the loco moco were a good thickness, not just a simple premade burger patty, and cooked well. The sunny side eggs were a nice consistency too, yolks just runny enough. My overall impression: I probably came at a time where I got the older rice after the lunch crowd and before new rice got cooked for dinner orders. Still that shouldn't have been the case. If the rice was newer/nicer consistency this probably would have been a much higher review, but when the core ingredient of a dish is the worst part, it really put a downer on the whole experience. I only ate half the loco moco and took the rest home for later where I'll cook my own rice for it. My recommendation, maybe try this place during usual lunch and dinner hours. read more

A most loverly surprise awaited us at Aloha BBQ! The food was scrumptious, the service--kind, stellar, and prompt. There are many items we will sample next time. My favorite was the Crystal Noodles with Pork. Oh my gosh, I would love another plate right now, please. The noodles were flavorful, indeed, however, the pork, wow, the pork. It was tender, a bit smoky, and well seasoned--just the way you always hope it will be--and almost never is. My husband said his Hawaiian Beef Burger (with grilled pineapple), was the best burger he's had in an age. I loved the potstickers, and didn't eat nearly enough of them (attempting to look ladylike). Next time--I will throw caution to the wind and chow down. There was another plate, the name escapes me (maybe 3-way combo?), that did not disappoint. I came here for lunch and there was no wait. The restaurant itself was nice and clean. I ordered the bbq chicken plate and spam musubi. The chicken was good but not a fan of the macaroni salad mixed with potato salad. I usually love macaroni salad but I wasn't impressed by this mixture. I also wasn't a fan of the green salad. The spam musubi was well put together but lacking in sauce. They do have a have a lot of options on their menu so I might have to try something else next time. read more

First and foremost, Erica and Rainer's customer service was outstanding! They were very helpful and the manager Erica gave me 40% off my meal. The meals this time were amazing. I got the double combo with chicken and short ribs. My wife got the loco moco and they were perfectly cooked and the flavor was great! The vibe in the restaurant was chill and relaxing. The food is great here. Different from the other Hawaiian places we go to. The owner (Sam) is usually there, and is great with his patrons and new customers. We just happened to be in this area and saw the place a while back so we gave it a try. Sam was so nice, he gave my boys balloons so they could play with them while we were waiting for our freshly-made Hawaiian plates. I just think Mom-and-Pop shops like these which are owner-operated and supervised hit the spot better. We do not come as often because of the distance from our house, but my boys still request it every now and then. They don't even call the restaurant by its name, they say "let's go to Sam's, Daddy. We miss it." Highly recommended. The place is clean too -- you won't miss the Hawaiian ambiance from the music to the decor and overall chill vibe of this place. read more

Was craving comfort food and wanted to try this place out, but ended up disappointed. I ordered a combination plate: katsu and BBQ pork, and my girlfriend ordered the kalbi. Growing up with local Hawaiian food, this wasn't it. The katsu was paper-flat, barely any chicken; the BBQ pork tasted off; the kalbi was tough and looked like it was pre-cooked and warmed up. We got a large order for catering and this place has definitely changed significantly in how they operate. Our portions of food are a lot smaller than when we had ordered before and the owner was not helpful. The owner Sam also refused to give us our order unless we could prove the exact amount of food we ordered and we had to ask him for the items we paid for and convince him after some dialog. As for the food, the katsu was super dry and flat and lacked flavor. However I would say the bbq chicken was pretty good. There was a slightly smokey flavor to the bbq chicken and the chicken tasted freshly cooked. So I would recc the bbq chicken but not the katsu. Utensils were also 39 cents each and sauce is no longer included with anything but is extra. So we got no utensils and no sauce with our order, but that's fine. This place skimps so much for their portions now. I would never be coming back here again and I encourage you all to go to all the other Aloha's instead! The Aloha in Tustin is owned by and run by a kind old woman who never refuses utensils or sauce with any order. read more

This place has great Hawaiian food. They have teriyaki chicken and kalbi ribs. Kalbi Ribs are to die for. Always very moist and tender. I also like the crystal noodles here. These are gluten-free and they're made of sweet potato if you can believe it. Very TASTY. Sam, the owner is very kind and helpful. We have had them cater for us a few years ago and we're doing it again this year for our Christmas party. High-quality food and very reasonably priced. If you have a craving for teriyaki chicken and kalbi ribs, this is a place for you. It's a small, quaint place and the ambience is very cool. We went for take out here again, and found the customer service, and food to be very good. Having stopped by before prime time, we didn't wait long, in my opinion. For us, the combo plates are a great value. I think my favorite meat is the BBQ chicken, and in my previous review, there's a good description of my glowingly positive sentiments towards the mac salad. I had leftovers, and so did my husband. For a younger, hungrier person, I can guess a combo meal may be a whole meal. Before receiving our order, I noticed a young man (most likely a couple decades younger than us) finish his meal on one of the tables outside. Had a late lunch there and ordered the chicken curry over rice. I should emphasize rice, since that's mostly what I got, sticky, clumpy, white rice. The bowl had very little chicken, and what was there was in teeny, tiny pieces that I had to go on a treasure hunt to find and even fewer vegetables. The yellow curry sauce was a bland as it gets. My friend tried a combo plate of meats and also said that his was just okay. Although, he did get more food. I was hungry again just a few hours later, and that was supposed to have been my dinner. Another turn off was that the bathroom was almost in the kitchen, and you had to walk through the kitchen to get to it. A man was chopping exposed chicken, as I passed through the small space, almost having to brush him. I never saw that before. But the bathroom was one of the cleanest I've ever seen if that helps. However, I did like the cute, kitschy island décor and the very kind staff there who waited on us. I can't say we'll ever go back though. read more
