The theme for my father-law's celebration of life was Hawaiian. I looked at L&L as well as Aloha BBQ for food. We elected to go with Aloha BBQ to help support our local vendor over a larger chain. I was so glad we did! We went into Aloha and spoke with Sam who helped us with the food planning. He was amazing! My wife and I were concerned about running out of food for the celebration and had a list of items that we were going to order. Sam was great, he listed to us but then provided his input. He told us that we were ordering more food than what was needed. He joked that he would love to sell more food but didn't want us to end up with a ton of leftovers. Only an honest vendor would try to down sell you! We ended up going with our original, larger order, and Sam was right on! We ended up having a lot of left overs, which was completely fine with us, since the food was absolutely delicious! We had the Chicken Katsu, BBQ Beef, BBQ Short Ribs and BBQ Chicken. All of the main menu items were amazing! The potstickers were great too and who doesn't love good Hawaiian Macaroni Salad!!! The potstickers were crispy, the mac salad was more a cross of a potato salad and mac salad, and the spam musubi was hot and fresh. The service was good and he was friendly, it seemed like he was the only one working so it was a bit slower but not bad. There's a couple tables inside to sit in which is nice. Aloha BBQ is located in an older strip mall in Mission Viejo. This is a small shop serving Hawaiian fare. I picked up 2 of the 3 item combo plates to share with some family. 3 item combo ($16) - This combo came with rice, and 2 sides. The person taking my order didn't bother to tell me that there was a choice of rice (white or brown) as well as sides. She just assumed I wanted white rice, salad and macaroni salad. I went with chicken katsu for all 3 of my items on one combo and the other combo I selected BBQ chicken. The BBQ chicken wasn't as tender and juicy as I've tried at other Hawiian places. The chicken katsu had a nice panko crust, however the chicken was way over cooked and tough. I didn't like the salad at all and had to toss it. The macaroni salad tasted pretty good, although it wasn't as good as some of the other local Hawaiian places. The highlight of the meal for me was the white sticky rice. It was perfectly cooked and tasted great. Overall the pricing here is about 30% higher than the other local Hawaiian places. Also a 3 item beef combo plate would have been about $6 more, which is why I didn't order beef. I did appreciate that everything was made fresh when I ordered it, however the chicken items were over cooked for the most part. The cashier also should have informed me of the choices I had for the sides and rice. I would have selected a double portion of the macaroni salad instead of getting the salad as one of my sides. read more

Super disappointed in the food. I was really craving hawaiin bbq and seen this was close to my daughters day care so I stopped for lunch. First off the mac salad has no flavor and mixed with potatoes lol DO NOT COMPARE TO ORIGINAL MAC SALAD because again you will be disappointed. BBQ beef spare ribs Combo- to go All the combo meals came with rice, slaw, and macaroni salad. We didnt find any of the meat very good. There is this weird glaze that is also put on the meat. It just wasnt that good. It lacked flavoring. It seems like they didnt marinade the meat long enough and just glazed it with sauce. The BBQ chicken is dry. The BBQ beef ribs is tough and not tender. The katsu chicken was very thin. The sauce that came with it was lacking the flavor of "katsu sauce." The macaroni salad was weird. It had potato in it. It just wasnt the Hawaiian macaroni I am used to.... The slaw was just topped with dressing. It wasnt tossed in a bowl. Seems like the chef was lazy putting things together.... The location of this place is nice. Easy parking. The decoration is adorable with the tiki masks and bambo wall covering... They even have the Hawaiian Station on. ;) However...As you enter the place, the smell of bathroom or all purpose cleaner just hits you. I didnt say anything to my mom when I smelled it..Usually I just have a sensitive nose. Then my mom said, uh... that smell is bothering me. Cleaner smell? It was a beautiful day out, so my mom and I took it outside. There are about 3 tables outside Aloha BBQ so that was nice! There is no public bathroom here unless maybe they let you go through their kitchen. Glad I had Purell Wipes for my hands. Not coming back here. Its sorta hard to mess up Hawaiian BBQ. This place is okay. However, I have to compare my experience to other Hawaiian BBQ places and this place fell short. I had the BBQ chicken. The chicken was topped with some delicious teriyaki sauce which gave it a sweet and tangy flavor. The chicken was cooked, but the chicken didn't look marinated. I could literally tear the chicken into strands because it was dry and it looked like the sauce was only drizzled on top. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but usually the flavors are soaked into the chicken and the sweetness smacks me right in the tongue because the marinade seeps inside the meat. The chicken is supposed to be juicy and flavorful when I bite into it. The very next day, I went to a different Hawaiian BBQ restaurant (in a different city) and ordered Hawaiian BBQ chicken (is this different?) and it was exactly what I wanted. The chicken smacked my tongue. It smacked it hard. This location also gave far less food for virtually the same price. I usually expect the Styrofoam to be packed with food, like breaking the seams of the container. Here, the box is half full. I actually weighed the box when I got home because I was so surprised. It was around 720g. I weighed the competitor the next day: 1454g, literally double the mass. The macaroni salad here is different. I think they add a little more potato and there's less actual macaroni, I like it more. My roommate did not agree. If you've never been to any other location, you'll probably love this place. The food is okay, but the competition is fierce. I can't say I recommend this place. I probably can't recommend any Hawaiian BBQ place in Mission Viejo. To get those strong flavors, soft textures, and packed boxes, I'd recommend driving a bit further to get a more typical Hawaiian BBQ experience. read more

This Aloha BBQ is really subpar compared to its other locations. The portions they give are very small and would last you ONE meal at most, whereas the other locations stuff the box so much that it takes at least 3-4 meals in order to finish it. I got the short rib which came with two thin pieces that were filled with fat and barely any meat to enjoy. The mac salad it came with had a tangy, sour taste to it. I don't know if it it's supposed to be within the same franchise as the other Aloha BBQ places but I will stick to getting Hawaiian food at those locations instead. read more

I had an order at some Chinese food place that went way wrong and weird on pick up so I Went here to aloha bbq yesterday last minute for a work baby shower, walked in and was greeted by the owner. Very nice guy. He was able to quickly make me a platter of meat and Mac salad and he helped me all the way out to my car. I was so stressed I would not be be able to get any food for that many people that fast. The food was amazing and everyone loved the Mac salad!! It was a sleepy and rainy day, but yet there was a rainbow. This is a solid 4 star restaurant, as the food is excellent. We ordered a two item combo. The macaroni salad tasted different, almost like egg was added, but it wasn't a bad change. Every bite of meat was clean, no fatty pieces and no grizzle. We really enjoyed the meal. The fans should've been turned off and the music lowered, but whatever makes them happy. We will come back for sure. We visited Maui over the summer, and our meals here were better than ANY meal that we had in HI. The prices are reasonable, casual setting (my preference), and quality food. Can't ask for much more. Then our meals are brought to us. The cashier was nice and friendly that helped in our ordering. For an appetizer I had: The Ramen Soup; noodles, chicken, bean sprouts, carrots, broccoli, and topped with green onion. The bowl was larger then I thought but I ate most of it. Hot and tasty. Diana had a small macaroni salad. For my Entrée: The Triple Combination Plate; chicken katsu; breaded and deep fried chicken. very tasty. BBQ beef; thin sliced BBQ beef that was tasty. BBQ chicken; chucks of BBQ chicken that was charbroiled; tender and flavorful. included; macaroni salad & coleslaw. I drank a Diet Coke to balance my meal.
