    Poke salad
    Clifford W.

Inside a small shopping center. Poke salad bowl was good, sesame oil flavor. Seaweed salad was similar to supermarket variety. Donburi bowl was good. Similar to other cafe eaten that we had. Service one person shop. Food relatively inexpensive. Ambiance none because mostly for take away, a few tables outside.

A Really nice young lady behind the counter took great care in preparing my meal and was very nice . I just moved in across the street so I will be back a lot ! Authentic Japanese

So glad this place is still here! Went back to find it on our trip last week and it's just how we remember it from our last trip 6 years ago. Cute little place located in the Discovery Bay indoor strip mall next to McDonald's. You walk in and order at the counter and the very sweet lady rings you up and then goes behind the curtain to prepare your order. You can eat at the small tables outside or take to the beach like us. The menu is large and varied and the prices very inexpensive. We like to order an array of items and put it out family style. Highly recommend!

    Ahi Don

This is a takeout sushi place that is very small and old. The service was just okay. I got Ahi Don. When it came, it shocked me because there were only a little bit of ahi on a lot of rice. It was $15.70 including tax. Really!? I didn't feel like saying anything, so I just left. The food wasn't that good either. The rice was in the hard side and too much sesame oil - I could see the oil like soup on the bottom. It was so disappointing. I will never come back here again.

If you need a quick bite this is the place for you. Ordered the udon, spicy tuna, unagi, salmon, octopus, and tuna salad. All very filling and delicious. Owner came out to chat with us and hospitable which was nice as well. Love the casual environment and mom and pop businesses that are laid back. Great quality overall!

My son said it was the best sushi he ever had. They had sushi we have never had like beef roll (Yakiniku) and yakitori chicken rolls. Everything was delicious and very good prices. 8 sushi rolls, 2 hawaiian juices and shumai only cost us $28. Will definately eat again. Good location in Waikiki.

There is walk-ins but I wouldn't risk it The food was incredibly fresh. As it goes without saying, when you're in Hawaii you're as close to eating the freshest seafood as you can without being in Japan. We both ended up getting their Signature Negitoro Bowl but the Tokujo version which has Salmon Roe + Snow Crab + Uni and added a fresh Yolk Soy Sauce. Because why not have the Lamborghini of Negitoro bowls while you're visiting here. Along with that I ended up with a half sized udon miso soup and my wife a crab miso soup. As you can see in the pictures the food came out looking just like it did on the menu, no false advertising there. The egg soy sauce was a perfect creaminess that complimented the saltiness of the Uni and Salmon Roe. Once you mix everything together there's even added house made soy sauce on the side of your want more saltiness back but add some yuzu ginger with each bite and you get that perfect blend of flavor. There's fish was insanely fresh and had zero fishy smell or taste. The rice underneath was cooked well and the side squares of nori was perfect to make our own hand rolls. There's no alcohol served but they allow you walk 15 steps outside to the nearby convenience store where they have the cutest little dog and bring in your own beer or sake. There's miso soup was good and warms you up, but will say the corner we sat on had the AC blasting (which we're not complaining) but it did cool down our soups a little faster than we could enjoy so in the end my wife's crab miso did get a little salty. But overall the food was amazing, service was friendly and vibes were warm. Absolutely will come back the next time we're in Oahu.

Later they took over the Soba side and opened the Yoshoku section, and now it seems like they've merged everything -- though the menu feels mainly Tonkatsu-focused. I made a mistake this time and didn't order my usual Pork Tenderloin Katsu. I tried the Oyster Mix Katsu (Oyster, Shrimp, Pork Loin), and the seafood pieces had way too much breading -- the actual seafood was maybe half the size of the whole piece, which was disappointing. My partner ordered the Bairin Mix Katsu, so I got to try the Minced Pork Katsu, and that was amazingly delicious. Service was great, and we got a 20% Kamaʻaina discount plus parking validation for the Bank of Hawaii lot for 1.5 hours. One lady made it sound like she was giving us extra time, but the website says 1.5 hours anyway. Note to myself: stick with the Pork Tenderloin Katsu or the Minced Pork Katsu next time.

Luckily, I had made reservations right when they opened online (a month in advance). They go by QUICK! Inside was decorated so clean and definitely highlights the Japanese culture. Our reservation was at 5 PM so we were seated super quickly when they opened for dinner service. We got our menus and then some side Japanese side dishes. The burdock roots were really good and they provided free plums (Ume) to have with rice. We ordered the pork loin katsu, pork tenderloin katsu, and a side order of oyster katsu. Each order of katsu came with choice of rice and miso soup. I saw the workers fry the katsu, so everything was fresh! While we were waiting for the food, they gave us the sesame seeds to grind for our Katsu sauce. All Katsu tasted sooooo good! I enjoyed the pork loin katsu sooooo much! Still thinking about it till this day haha. The tenderloin was the most tender I have ever had. It was my first time trying oyster katsu and it was both crispy from the Katsu but juicy from the oyster. Service was great as well. Staff were walking around asking if we wanted more salad or side dishes. After we finished our meal, they gave us some hot tea which is good for digestion. Overall, this is a MUST when visiting Oahu! It deserves all the hype.

The good news is the line moves fast since the noodles are made fresh right in front of you. The ordering process is simple and kind of fun to watch. Then you grab a tray for your udon bowl, then work your way down to a small plate where you pick out whatever tempura looks good to you. The tempura selection has a really nice variety, so there's something for everyone. Seating is definitely the tricky part since this place gets packed. They have tables and booths, but with how busy it is, it can be a challenge. We got lucky with a party of eight and somehow got two booths right next to each other. I got the nikutama and it did not disappoint, 10 out of 10, gone way too fast. The potato croquette on the side was just as good. Honestly you could order almost anything off this menu and it would hit. Everyone in our group got something different and we all walked away stuffed and happy. Since it was late, we noticed the back of house staff help the front. Everyone was so friendly and food comes out fast. I could also say portion of some items may not match price, but I understand inflation is increasing at an alarming rate. So I'll leave money out of this. Crushed cucumbers were interesting. We couldn't decide if eating it with chopsticks or spoon was better. With chopsticks, you might not get enough sauce. But you could taste the layers of flavor. With a spoon, you get too much saltiness. The spice hits at the end. The tako karaage were a little too chewy for us. Beef tongue was so tender. A definite must order. I dont think it needs rice though. We also ordered the late night nikumiso but it didn't come with an egg, which the menu said it should. We tried handful more items but we'll be back to try the oxtail items, as it sounds like that's their specialties, but takes extra time to prepare.
