It wasn't easy trying to get parking in Waikiki but we finally hit this Spot that our family from Washington DC highly recommended to us locals! I think they ate here about 4 times during the week long stay in Hawaii . It's unlike any other sushi place I've been to so we weren't sure what to expect. The vibe is relaxed and casual Coastal America (?) blended with the freshness and quality of good Japanese sushi . I was impressed with the creative presentation and artistry of the chef's knife that cut fine patterns and textures into the raw fish . Appetizers: -Fresh ahi salad- refreshing bowl of beautiful colors -Poke ball-a compact ball of spicy ahi , 'crab', and avocado covered with masago and different sauces served with big shrimp chips. Ask for a spoon to make it easier to scoop. Creative with a kick! -*Sushi Deluxe Combo- 12 piece omakase beautiful presentation and flavors. Some pieces were served with yuzu kosho a different heat from the usual wasabi. This was one my favorites -Red Spider - one of the many interesting maki rolls to choose from. This one had soft shell crab. -Kaisen Futomaki- great quality makes for great taste. I like how you could distinguish the ingredients individually (especially the bit of unagi) -*Udon-With an OK from the chef, Mom was able get Udon noodles and turn down the spice which made this amazing broth even easier to gulp down. This was my other favorite. They do not take rez here and apparently don't need to as there was a steady stream of customers passing thru all night. My friend recommended Sushi Spot Waikiki, as she and her husband went during their trip in 11/2024. Sushi Spot Waikiki happens to be a 10 min walk from our hotel. We were seated immediately and given menus (in addition to the QR code on the table). We had the rainbow roll, California roll, and shrimp siu mai. The fish was fresh and appreciates them leaving out the cucumber per my request. :) I tried two of my mom's shu mai, which were quite tasty. The food itself was 5 stars. So why 4 stars? Though we were seated immediately and the restaurant wasn't crowded, it took a while for the waitress to take our order so my mon had to get up to get her attention. Also, the smell of bleach as we walked in was quite noticeable. Not the smell you want when you want to enjoy a good meal. Casual environment and no reservations needed/taken. There aren't enough words to describe the experience we had at The Sushi Spot in Waikiki. The food was impeccable- the sushi was fresh and light. The appetizers were delicious and the entrees (teriyaki chicken and steak) was chefs kiss. The service!! Five star!!! Flora was amazing and helped us so much. It's always a concern when I'm in such a major tourist area like Waikiki what I might be getting myself into when I pick a restaurant. Genuine crafted dishes made with pride or "quick lets get them in and out the door" meals? The Sushi Spot Waikiki definitely falls in the former. Let me start off with service. We were immediately welcomed and shown to a table. Our server happily talked about the favorites on the menu which I always appreciate. I noticed that despite being like two blocks from the Pacific that the staff were upscaled with dark collared long sleeves. Coupled with the small venue I would recommend this for an intimate date night. Kinda classy. Food. They take great care crafting their dishes and each dish came out looking like little art pieces with flavor to match. I like that they are not heavy handed on their sauces when making their rolls. Tuna crispy onion. Seared ahi topped with deep fried onions, masago, and unagi sauce. Splendid. The Phoenix Roll. Literally dinner and a show rolled (hahaha pun) into one. Shrimp tempura, salmon spicy mayo and unagi sauce that is literally torched at your table creating a crisp caramelized coat. Keep your face at a respectful distance as you try to take close ups lol. The different textures played well together. The torching could be done in the kitchen so again I think a bit classy that it is done table side. This was our last dinner on the island. Our favorite restaurant closed at 8pm so we had to yelp a place worth trying that's open late. We wanted something casual instead of a bar setting. The bathroom toilet was covered in s***, We waited for 1h for any food to come out. The owner basically tore the menu from our hands while we were looking at it to give it to another customer. It's nice and cozy since we are big group we got out side in the back but it made it that much better felt like we had our own private area. The second one was the red dragon again it came together great. The spicy was not spicy at all it added a great taste to everything. This place is fresh!! For the kids we got the chicken fried rice and the shrimp fried rice. They love it, it was seasoned good the rice and topping were fresh. The shrimp was very very enjoyable it was seasoned perfectly cooked to perfection not Chewy at all the rice was steamed nice. I over all recommend this place this is a must have while on the island. I've worked in Waikiki for many years and I pass by the restaurant every day on my way home. I finally got to try it with my mom tonight! Everything was awesome to say the least. The service, food and atmosphere of the overall restaurant were great 10/10. Our tab came out to about $60 which is normal in Waikiki for three plates of food. Additionally the waitress Yuko asked where my mom and I were from and we let her know that we're actually local! She was delighted, and gave us some mochi ice cream which was so sweet of her! She also let us know when breakfast, lunch and dinner hours are which is awesome (Brunch Spot and Sushi Spot operate out of the same dining room). Sushi spot is off the main drag just two blocks maybe but I called ahead and they said that we could be seated for a party of two right away. There was no weight compared to some other restaurants on the main drag. As promised, we walked in and we're seated right away. There were plenty of tables occupied, and a handful still available. We ordered edamame and a couple sushi rolls - all were EXCELLENT. I highly recommend this spot. Came to Sushi Spot Waikiki, just a walk from Waikiki Beach, a bit late at night with some friends (around 9:30 with a party of 3). We were seated quickly and since ordering is done off a QR code there is little interaction with the staff. However once orders were put in, food came out quickly and it all tasted fresh. The ambiance is pretty casual with a relaxing unwinding vibe. One of the people working in the kitchen even came out to our table and talked about where the fish was caught around the islands, which added a nice inviting layer to the experience. We also had a shumai appetizer, which was good, and the sushi deluxe combo which was awesome. We got to try so many different types of sushi. Only wish the pieces were cut in half since I shared it with my son. The place is small but they do have some outdoor dining. Service is a bit slow but they are very nice, and the rolls/appetizers came out in a weird order. I think they assume that you are all sharing but my wife doesn't eat all the food my son and I do. First and last visit to this location. We could smell the bad fish soon as we opened the door- given it's a sushi spot I dismissed this. I didn't mind ordering via the QR code, this did take away from the experience not being able to ask questions. Our greeter was apparently busy, only seen them once when they pointed to a table and sit over there, the entire visit. We ordered 3 roles, one being the Diamond Head since we've had that at other locations with in 2 blocks and enjoyed it. The role came with a pile (2-3 cups) of mixed fish that smelled VERY fishy. I scraped that off my portion and chose not to eat that. We also had Goodbye Dracula and Spicy Tuna. These roles were not compiled the best and would fall apart when grabbing each bite. Between swatting at the insects, smell of rotten fish and no service, the atmosphere was that of a 90's sitting.
