Hawaiian/Filipino Comfort food at it's best. It's too bad it's a bit out of the ways, because I would be coming regularly for platters since they hit everything I need in a dive: cheap, filling, delicious. The portions are very generous; If you get a plate it comes loaded with rice, creamy mac salad, some side greens, and hot-off-the-grill portions of the meat you order. It's large enough to split into two meals, or you can eat it all and be stuffed. Plates run around $8.50-9.50, though if you're indecisive because almost everything is delicious, the mixed plate is $10.95. I almost always get that, because it's hard to choose just one meat. The Katsu is juicy and crunchy, the bbq meats have great char and marinade on them, the kahlua pork is tender. The sides were all excellent renditions, and you can grab a bottle of their katsu sauce to drizzle whenever you need an additional tangy kick. Plates aside, all the smaller items are delicious too, from the sandwiches(same meats but placed between two buns), spam musubi, and even their seasoned fries. If I had any complaints, it's that there's limited seating so you might start bumping elbows. I also wish the hours were longer; sometimes I get a craving beyond 2pm on a Saturday. read more

Not only did they make everything I wanted come to life, they were extremely helpful in planning, and making my wedding more beautiful. I ordered fresh, local pineapple on a stick, strawberry water, pineapple infused water, different options of Hawaiian food plates, and drinks. The thing that sticks out the most in my mind was how nice the two owners were. The topper was when they saw my cake stand wasn't as pretty as theirs, they happen to have a wedding cake stand in the truck and swapped it out while I was doing my business. Have been wanting to try this place for awhile! So glad that we did! We called about 10 mins ahead to place an order and it was ready for us when we got there to pick it up. We ordered two combo lunch plates. Bbq chicken, chicken katsu, and hamburger steak. They definitely give you plenty for a lunch portion! We loved every bite. Great Mac salad, they put pieces of potato which I love. And then they also give you a regular green salad as well. We were craving some Filipino-ish food and saw this on yelp. Even though it was a little out of the way, we decided to stop by to check out their take on Asian fusion. So glad we did because this place lives up to its 5 star rating! When we arrived, we were greeted by one of the owners. She was so sweet and patient while we tried to decide what to get. I was craving some musubi (since it's been a minute since I've had spam). The boy got a mixed plate with BBQ Chicken and Tocino. Dude...I don't really like tocino but their marinade was so amazing!!! If you're not Filipino and are unsure about tocino...let me just tell you that it's pork goodness. Order it! The location itself is tiny but they make up for it with their portion size. They give you so much and one mix plate can easily be shared between 2 people. But, get at least 2 mix plates so you can try other dishes. I wish we tried the Kahlua Pork or the Chicken Katsu. I am taking a class across the street at the dep. of health and the instructor there recommended this place as a good cheap eat. He said it was a mix of "Filipino & Mexican" fusion! So being the starving person that I was, I thought I'd give it a try. Plus if a health inspector recommends it (a food truck) it must be good) Sure enough it was well worth it! So so good, it reminds me of home. Everything was plentiful and the meat was juicy but not oily and that made all the difference.

Simply put... the food is fantastic! One bite and my memories of Maui came rushing back. This is authentic Hawaiian food; it's what the locals eat. Not what you find at the hotel restaurants but what you would find if you went out and wanted to sample the real local flavor. The Kalua Pork was moist and smoky. The Loco Moco was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. Everything was just delicious. Highly recommend getting the mixed plate so that you can try a couple of things. Well, this was nice! Based on other reviews here it seems that Hawaiian food is difficult to find in Chicago. (Wouldn't have known that ...) Aloha Wagon seems like a great addition to the limited roster. The owners are delightful people and the food is great. I had a stir fry with tofu, onions, and I can't remember what else. The seasoning was perfect, though, and I plan to get it again. My colleague had the Spam Masubi (uncertain of spelling) and pronounced it excellent. I wish Aloha Wagon the best. The location obviously has high visibility but also seems to be somewhat cursed. (The restaurant turnover has been fierce.) There's no obvious place to park, but I don't have the sense that it's difficult, either. It's not too far from the medical district, so walking would be an option. (That's what we did.) I used to live in Hawaii so I finally decided to check out a couple of "Hawaiian" BBQ places around the city (in HI they are called Korean BBQ). I have to talk about the mac salad first because real Hawaiian mac salad is iconic. The mac salad here is not the same: authentic Hawaiian mac uses bigger noodles, lots of mayo & a few slivers of carrots along with their secret flavoring which makes all of that mayo come back & haunt your dreams, which is why I'm still searching for it. The mac salad here does have a good flavor, but too much pepper & while the potatoes added are good, they just seem strange in the mac salad & would probably be better in a stand-alone potato salad. Apparently Hawaiian mac CAN be made with potatoes added, I've just never had it anywhere on Oahu. And luckily they don't ruin it by trying to add tons of mayo without the secret flavoring (a bad mistake I have made trying to replicate it myself. I do know the secret now, if anyone wants to know...). The Hawaiian grilled BBQ chicken is much closer to how I remember it from the places in Hawaii (on Oahu) where I used to go. Marinated, grilled pieces of chicken thighs, very tender & flavorful. One of the best things though, was the Kalua pork taco! It's not part of the traditional HI/Korean BBQ menu, but I will definitely come back for this! The pork had a great flavor, very tender also and they filled up the tortilla with plenty of meat along with onions & cilantro. I have to try the fish taco as well, it also looked really good. The Aloha cheesecake bars were also something new, but totally makes this place worthwhile (& another recipe I want to try to recreate, unless anyone wants to share it!) read more

As soon as I walked in, I was greeted my the owner's son. He was so welcoming! My boyfriend and I ordered the Chicken Katsu plate and also the combo plate with Chicken Katsu and Kalua Pork (I may have spelled that wrong). The food came out very quick and when we opened it at home, we were surprised by the amount of food that was given. Not to mention, it was extremely delicious and the chicken Katsu was just the right amount of crispiness. We found out later on that this family was originally from Hawaii and had their own food truck equivalent there. This little family run restaurant is definitely worth a try. This.food.is.delicious. I can't believe I've been living so close to this place for four years and just discovered it. It's a small shop but the flavor and variety makes up for that. I ended up getting the mixed plate with loco Moco and chicken katsu. This was my first time having loco Moco and I loved it. The runny egg was cooked to perfection and went well with the gravy and patty. Now, I've had chicken katsu plenty of times, but this has to be the best katsu I've had in America (so juicy and crispy!!!) They give you so much food you could probably split it....I ended up eating half in the shop, walked home and immediately ate the rest lol. Not a single complaint from my significant other or myself. We tried the musubi and the mixed plate with spicy Pork and the Hawaiian grilled BBQ chicken. Both were very good. The chicken was nice and moist, but I personally liked the spicy pork a little more. They also have this chile arbol hot sauce that was really yummy (ask for some if you're taking your food to go). Customer service was excellent. No joke, I fell asleep that night thinking about the food LOL! Don't judge me. I will most definitely be going back. I want to try everything in their menu. Alright so there are not many Hawaiian food options near me. This is the closest spot and when I realized that I'd be passing by for work, I immediately put it on my agenda for lunch. I tried the bbq chicken plate and a kahlua pork taco because there had been so many great reviews for both. So the bbq chicken was good, but not great to me. I anticipated it to be sweeter and more bbqy. The mac salad and rice were a delicious addition. The kahlua taco though......wowza. That was my jam! That would definitely be my go to going forward. The pork was moist and salty....so good! Also, they serve a salad on the side....it could've not been in the container at all, honestly a waste for them as their meat and Mac are the stars of the show. The portions were huge and it fed me for 2 or 3 meals. This is just a hole in the wall spot located on the corner of Western and Ogden. The area is busy but parking was easy to find. read more

Saw all of the great reviews and had to check out this place! I ordered the tofu and a friend had the burger. My tofu was served in a half of block with some sauce. I was rather disappointed as it was still cold and lacked flavor. Still hungry, I ordered a taco and told the cashier my thoughts of the food. They gave me another taco for free and told the chef they could pass on my recommendation of cubed rather than a block.
