We hosted a lunch for a group of 8 today at Locanda Ravello and had a wonderful time. The service was excellent, but the food truly stole the show! Dish Highlights We ordered a few excellent entrées, but the Branzino was absolutely sublime--we ordered three servings, and they were all perfectly prepared. Similarly, the Spaghetti Vongole was fresh, flavorful, and tasted authentic. The Vegetarian Panini also made for a great, hearty option for the non-meat eaters. Dessert Showcase You must save room for dessert! Our table enjoyed a wide range of offerings: the Tiramisu was classic and decadent, the Zeppoline were warm and delightful, and the refreshing Torta Limoncello and Sorbetto Limone provided the perfect light finish to the meal. Overall Experience Our server and the service overall were excellent and handled our large party flawlessly. My friends and I attempted to go there on a Tuesday night when it was not busy. The service was pretty much non-existent. The busser, waiters, and hostess did their best to ignore us for a good 5-7 minutes while we tried to figure out which of the several entrances to use. It was obvious we were looking to dine there, but they all stood behind the hostess podium area walking back and forth, making eye contact with us, then flitting off to do seemingly nothing. Then we finally stood right in front of the hostess at her podium waiting for her to acknowledge our existence. She seemed annoyed that we didn't have a reservation even though the place was practically empty. We were sat in the inner courtyard under a HUGE fan. Our table was butted up against another table full of guests which made it difficult to get into the chairs on one side of the table. There were over a dozen outdoor tables that were not occupied, so it was annoying to be sat right next to one of the three occupied tables. We were given menus and someone promptly brought iced tap water. We sat there for 10+ minutes before my friend asked if we could sit elsewhere. The hostess seemed utterly confused at this request, but thankfully my friend had more patience to deal with the blank stares and attitude radiating off the hostess. We moved tables to another outdoor section that was more peaceful and proceeded to sit there for no less than 30 minutes with absolutely NO ONE coming out to provide any type of service. We finally got up and left because who knows how the rest of the dining experience might turn out. We should have noticed the huge red flag where several tables who had obviously stopped eating had barely touched their food. I cannot attest to the food quality since we were barely lucky enough to receive water. However, based on the the most recent reviews, we probably dodged a bullet. read more

I have been coming here for years, so call me a slow learner. I would avoid this place on a Friday/Saturday dinner time. The service was awful, the entrees took forever for simple pasta, and my lasagna was burnt. I would sent it back but I didn't want to wait while my guest was already eating. read more

I had Mother's Day lunch at Locanda Ravello, and what happened at the end of the meal completely ruined the experience. When it came time to pay, the waiter, Carlos, processed my card, walked away with the handheld payment device, and somehow added himself a $36.55 tip before handing me the receipt. What makes this even more suspicious is that $36.55 was not one of the preset gratuity options on the device. It had to be manually entered. When I questioned the charge and asked to speak with a manager, Carlos returned and claimed he "didn't know how it happened" and that he must have "mistakenly tipped himself." I find that explanation impossible to believe. Accidentally entering a custom tip amount is not a simple error - it comes across as deliberate, nefarious, malicious, and completely unacceptable behavior. The manager eventually came out, apologized, voided the transaction, and re-ran the charge. He also mentioned Carlos had worked there for three years and that this had "never happened before." Maybe this was the first time he got caught. While I appreciate that the charge was corrected, the situation was not handled with the seriousness it deserved. In a time when people are already stretched financially, helping yourself to a customer's money is not a harmless mistake. It destroys trust. Ironically, I still left a tip because I didn't want the rest of the staff to suffer for one employee's actions, though it was far less than I originally intended to leave. Needless to say, I will never return. If you dine here, I strongly recommend carefully reviewing your payment screen and receipt before leaving. read more

Went to Danville for date night and found this place. Definitely want a reservation as it was packed. Got the caprese salad and artichoke beignets to start. The tomatoes for the caprese were fantastic. The beignets were flavorful but nothing special. Gnocchi was flavorless and a bit mushy. Pizza had great crust but the prosciutto on top of it was meh. Hands down our favorite place for a guaranteed good meal. It's where we go to celebrate, the easy choice for happy hour, and always where we bring friends and family from out of town. We're always treated like family and feel at home when we're there. Besides the good vibes, the food is always delicious and comforting. I like the simpler menu items like pasta pomodoro or pasta vongole, margherita pizza with arugula, and surprisingly my all time favorite is the ribeye with roasted veg and steak fries. We did a pickup order for dinner - a Tortellini and a lasagna. The tortellini was quite pitiful for $26.95. Looks like they just boiled the tortellini and dumped some butter sauce over it. Waaay overpriced. Will not go back again. read more

Ive been to 3 other Locanda locations and this was by far my favorite experience. Having spent a few weeks in Italy earlier this year, this gave me the most authentic experience. Our server was from Venice (I believe his name was Matteo?) and he was very pleasant and k new the menu well. Even though the restaurant was busy we didn't feel rushed. The outdoor seating was perfect for the day. All the food was delicious from the gnocchi, to the seafood ravioli, meatballs, cheese blossoms, the pizzas and the lasagna was the chefs kiss! Came here for dinner with the boo on a Saturday night. It was hot out so we sat inside. There is a very nice outdoor patio area though. The service was great, and the dishes were quite good. You also get complimentary bread with an olive spread. The fritto misto was a tad salty, but everything else was perfect. The cocktails are strong, which means we had a great night. I haven't been here in years. I was craving Italian food and our other favorites didn't have opening until later. Found parking across the street behind the small business and walked from there. We were seated in the house next door to their original location (from what I remembered). Apparently they hold events here and store wine as well as they were displayed throughout. We were greeted with water right away and given some time to review. I usually scan a menu and go with the first few things that look delicious based on the ingredients listed that catch my eye. We always order enough to share and maybe bring home for a midnight snack. Tartufata Pizza (proscriptionde Parma), Fritto Misto (calamari rings, artichoke), and a Caesar salad for good measure, possibly saving room for a good tiramisu, my go-to dessert at Italian restos. Caesar came out right away. It was okay. Lettuce wasn't chilled or crispy, room temp almost. Croutons kinda over toaster. Shaved parm was nice and sharp. Dressing was missing some umph. Tang? Fritto misto looked really promising. Some bites were nice and crunchy, nicely seasoned. Whereas other bites were like a salt bomb. I did like the whole bunch of legs that J don't see often which makes me think they bring in fresh seafood and fish vs packaged. The calamari rings were fun to eat. Artichoke was a refreshing change. Not sure what to do with the side of dressing or sauce, next to the pile of spring mix. Overall, it was good. But not my favorite. The server asked us if we were ready to have the main entrees placed in the middle of bites. We were. Pizza and ravioli came out together. Surprisingly the lagostino sauce (I think that's what it was called) was balanced ans delicious. I wish the dish itself was hotter (in temperature). The filling was tasty. Pizza crunchy was nice and dough with specs of dark on the edge. The prosciutto was delicious along with the mushrooms (bitter and nutty like baby shimeji mushrooms). The thing that I didn't like was the pizza was a bit runny/watery at the base making the base a bit soggy. I used the crust to lap up the pasta sauce, cleaning the plate. I had to finish my meal with something sweet, even though we had our heart set on ice cream across the street. Tiramisu, of course, with a piping hot tongue burning cup of coffee. Tiramisu was mascapone and great flavor. The creamer for the coffee was fresh, foamy. Overall, the meal was good. Glad that we didn't have to travel far for this. Intimate ambiance. read more

My bf and I were craving pizza & pasta on a random Thursday and chose to check out Locanda based on the raving reviews. And they did not disappoint! I got the pesto gnocchi and my bf had a Margherita pizza. We also shared the meatball appetizer. Everything was fantastic! Also loved the inside of the restaurant. It's small but so quaint. Located on Prospect, in downtown Danville. This is a great Italian restaurant, with spacious indoor and outdoor seating. We enjoyed their artichoke balls appetizer: deep fried artichoke hearts, stuffed with cheese coated in a light crust. Paired with a tomato bisque-like sauce. Their strozzapreti: Italian sausage, peas, wild mushrooms, parmigiano-reggiano creamy sauce. I highly recommend with clams with spaghetti, which seemed more like a huge bowl of Manila clams with noodles! Light garlic butter sauce with tomatoes! With the main dining area full, only outdoor (heated) or bar seating were available. We chose the bar. TBH the bar needs heating-- with the door open, there was a constant draft that naturally rolled in with the winter chill. Very uncomfortable. Our tiny high tops were awkwardly small, which felt crowded with the large plate size-- and weren't equipped with bag hooks either. Discomfort aside, all staff were exceptionally accommodating and professional. ARTICHOKE BEIGNETS: !!!! Delicious! Lightly crispy with a lovely, creamy filling. Great to whet your appetite. FRITTO MISTO: Huge portions... And our busser thoughtfully suggested keeping our beignet sauce for dipping lol. I'm not a huge fan of calamari, but my bf loved this. PIZZA CACIO E PEPE: D+ :-/ Ridiculously salty... Not even savory, just straight up SALT. Both my bf and I each took a bite and just... Politely boxed it. Not for me. STROZZAPRETI: Pizza sins were forgiven with the pasta. This was perfect IMO. Al dente pasta, sweet, fresh peas, hearty sausage-- no notes. And again, large portions. this review is specifically for our experience when we booked their party space for my birthday! it's so nice inside that we didn't even really need to decorate, the staff is super friendly, professional, and bring that fun, Italian vibe. We had a big group and opted for the prix fixe menu and everyone loved it! They were so accommodating working with us to configure the room for dinner, live music, and then moving the tables out of the way for dancing after dinner. The space could accommodate 50 people and we had about 35, and that felt really comfortable. some food highlights: antipasto platter fried calamari & artichokes salmon (got this gluten-free) pizza lasagna eggplant parm pasta with mushrooms in the prix fixe menu each guest picked their entree and dessert. appetizers were picked ahead of time. the tiramisu...my fav! they have a great wine selection and you can get order cocktails & mocktails served up from the bar. Waited too long to order, refill drinks and order dessert and dessert took so long to arrive that I asked if we could cancel the order. In addition, the food was not good at all. Every bite was exceptional. The meatballs were phenomenal--tender, deeply flavorful, and clearly made with care. The sole was beautifully cooked, buttery and delicate without being heavy, and the tortelloni was rich and savory, the kind of dish you keep thinking about long after the plate is cleared. Came across this restaurant after searching "Local Favorites" for our family's lunch/Saturday mini escape from San Jose. I went to their website to order online for a quick pick-up. (Looked forward to doing NOTHING in our hotel room so a sit down lunch was out of the question.) My fiancé went to pick up the food alone, and when he returned, had great things to say about the ambiance/aesthetics of the restaurant. BUT, as we started unboxing, he mentioned he was bummed there was no chili flakes/parm for the pizza. I assumed he meant he forgot to request, but was quickly informed he was told by the young woman they don't have to-go chili flakes/parm to provide. I was confused... maybe they have a thing against using flakes/parm? I mean, because how could they not have any? Lol. He didn't want to bother the unbothered young woman with the energy he was picking up and left it alone. Fast forward to six hours later...the food was so GREAT my boys wanted a second order of their pastas. So there we went... ordering AGAIN for dinner. No expectations of chili flakes/parm since they weren't too missed. However, with us both feeling stumped over such a small thing (we know lol) he again requested upon pick-up. This time, a different a different woman/host helped him. And what do you know? We received chili flakes AND parm. She was happy to grab them from the kitchen. I'm still so confused about lunch's interaction. Food was great! Our son enjoyed the (incorrect) cheese pizza more than expected despite us ordering pepperoni. Nonetheless, still look forward to visiting the new San Jose location just five minutes away from home. Customer service from lunch today...straight bummer and why the -star. I attended a bridal shower today in a spacious private room that featured a bar with a bartender. They offered about five specialty drinks, including one non-alcoholic option, which I tried and found very enjoyable. The wait staff was excellent--attentive and friendly throughout the event. Having previously dined at the Brentwood location, I had high expectations for the food here, especially since the dishes at Locanda Capri in Brentwood are outstanding. Because this was a large gathering, we had a set menu. Unfortunately, the Vesuvio Salad lacked flavor despite adding salt and pepper, although it was visually appealing. I ordered the Pollo Parmigiana, which consisted of two thin, breaded cutlets that were overcooked, dry, and difficult to cut with the provided butter knife. It was accompanied by two wedge slices of potatoes, totaling about a quarter of a potato, and some very mushy eggplant. I was not pleased with this dish. For dessert, I had the Italian donuts with hazelnut chocolate, which seemed to have been microwaved, making them rubbery and tough to chew. I could only manage a small bite, as the flavor didn't make up for the unpleasant texture. Perhaps the food quality was affected by the large party; I'm unsure about the rest of their menu. At the Brentwood location, I've had five-star dishes like gnocchi, ribeye steak, and rice balls. Maybe those options would be similarly excellent here, and if I return, I'll be sure to try them. Went to Locanda for dinner and was pleasantly surprised to find that the food as good as the ambiance. Very spacious and offers different vibes depending on where you're seated. We wished to be seated in a less crowded/loud area and they were very sweet and quick to address it. Service was excellent too. Ordered the Vesuvio salad, margherita pizza, and a penne pesto (not pictured). The penne pesto isn't on the menu but can be requested. One of the best pestos I've ever had! The salad was great too, the sliced almonds and burrata really elevated it. The margherita was good overall but the tomato sauce lacked depth. Wish I'd taken better photographs but overall, a great experience, would surely go back! That pesto's going to be hard to beat. read more

It was our first time trying out this restaurant. Food was good, great service and nice ambiance. I noticed the pizza chef will toss the pizza dough up in the air. Pretty cool and fun to watch if you sit close to the pizza oven area like we did. There are few rooms for parties based upon the capacity. I am planning to host my daughter's birthday party next year and would definitely consider this place. This restaurant can easily accomodate parties, girls or guys hang out, family and romantic date. Locanda Amalfi is my favorite location and I have been there many times. I decided to try the Danville location. Inside is a beautiful setting with the same lemon place settings that you see at all their locations. The noise level is a little loud and has more of a festive ambience vs a date night vibe. I love the quaint outdoor seating but we were seated on the very edge of their patio with a car parked running next to us and I'm looking out toward the car. Fortunately we were able to move inside. The service was good. Our server was attentive - and to all his tables. The menu was similar to the Pleasanton location with a few different dishes. We ordered: Fritto Misto - my all-time favorite. Love the huge pieces of shrimp and the artichoke. There's usually 2-3 big tentacle pieces. Ours came with 1 and mostly rings. Octopus Salad - the octopus was tender and was cooked well. The salad is lightly dressed. Loved the crunch from the celery and the creamy potatoes. Great textures in this salad. Parmigiana di Melanzane - i ordered this appetizer based on the photo on their online menu. It did not look anything like the picture. This was mushy and not at all what I was expecting. Carbonara - Authentic! Flavorful, creamy and delicious! I wish our 4 dishes didn't come out all at the same time. I don't know why they weren't paced better. I ate the salad and Fritto Misto first and by the time I got to the carbonara, it was lukewarm. The eggplant started out super hot so by the time I got around to eating it, it was still hot. read more

I actually almost cried here because of how good the food was. I got the mora cocktail which is one of the best cocktails i've ever had. so unique, tastes like candy! love the cold foam on top! the free bread was super yummy. I got the carbonara and my boyfriend got to diavloa pizza. i've been looking for a carbonara in the states and this is the first authentic one i've found. while it doesn't taste exactly like italy carbonara, it is very close and cures that craving! the pizza was very good, maybe too many olives but still super yummy! we got the tiramisu for dessert and this was the best tiramisu i've ever had in the U.S. tastes exactly like italian tiramisu, the ladyfingers were soaked perfectly and the marscopone cream was absolutely amazing. 10/10. will be coming here every week now read more

This restaurant is so cute and I already want to come back during the day to sit on their patio. Neon lights combined with grandma's porch type of aesthetic. I LOVED the white truffle gnocchi and would definitely get it again- the best flavor and good gnocchi texture. The artichoke beignets were also great- imagine arancini with artichoke. But I would totally pass on the vodka pastas and burrata appetizer...the vodka sauce did not taste right and the burrata was too solid. We really enjoyed our night here on New Year's Eve! The service was quick and the ambiance of the place truly is beautiful. We have driven by many times but haven't had an opportunity to drop by. When we arrived we were seated quickly and we loved that they had a belly dancer going through the inside of the place. I'm assuming this was just a special event thing since it was new years. We reserved several tables for 15-20 people for my grandma's 75th surprise birthday dinner. Aside from being treated as if we were a pain in the ass as soon as we entered, the "short ribs" in the tortellini has the consistency of refried beans, the sauce makes it OK. The server who hates the elderly offers to slice my grandma's cake, the slices come out as lumps instead, as if he used a spoon to cut them. He charges us $90 for the gracious cake-cutting. What a lovely place! I felt like I got transported to Italy! Came here last night for a 5 course dinner with wine pairing from St Michael-Eppan Winery. What a lovely presentation from Matia and his partner. The wines were amazing, my favorites were Sanct Sauvignon 2023 and Sandy Valentin Lagrein 2021 (red - almost black wine). The dishes were incredible! Each one cooked to perfection and were brought out to us warm and so delicious. This was such an impressive event and would love to see and go to more of these. The people there were the nicest, the people who worked there were so kind and friendly. We had the front private room for this event which was perfect and cozy, with hundreds of bottles of wine on the wall and the wine fridge. It felt like we were in Italy at a lemon farm dining.
