Last month we made our second trip to visit Idyllwild and when we take these types of trips we normally make a detailed food packing list and only get take out pizza. This time, there happened to be an LA times article about Idyllwild right before we went so I was intrigued to try this new-ish cafe in town. We were a party of seven (three kids). A little quirk you should know is that you have to separately order for coffee drinks and can only get a cup of drip in the restaurant section. So.. just ended up getting a regular cup. I was interested to try the ratatouille breakfast, but they said it was not available because of the long prep time. Womp womp. I ended up getting avocado toast which was pretty underwhelming. Very thin layer of bland avocado and some small tomatoes on top. We ordered the 4 sweet cream pancakes for the three kids to share and they liked it fine..but the sleeper hit were the sweet potato fries I ordered since I figure avocado toast wouldn't be filling. Huge portion of fries for the whole table to inhale. I ended up getting another order to go! Overall the people were super nice and the restaurant and facilities are clean. read more

Came to summit Mt. San Jacinto but plans were derailed when the trails were closed due to wildfires. We decided to stop by this local coffee shop. I never expected good coffee to come out of a small town but this is such a hidden gem! Honey lavender latte - just the right amount of sweetness and floral notes. I'm usually not a lavender person but it was one of their recommended drinks. Dirty chai latte - one of the best chais I've had. Strawberry matcha milk tea - the strawberry purée was so good! It lacked matcha flavor so that was disappointing. Overall, the drinks here are very expensive but they were well a solid coffee spot for a small town. read more

I stopped here for an iced coffee for the drive back home and was very impressed with the iced Nutella latte. I figured it'd be pretty sweet so I asked for half sweet and was glad I did! It was so delicious and definitely sweet enough! They also have a dining area that had some good looking breakfast coming out. It's a little out of the heart of town so it's definitely a quieter less busy atmosphere than some of the other businesses in the area. We came here for the drinks but the inside was very spacious. The barista was very helpful and friendly. You can tell he enjoyed his job and that's one of the best things to see as a customer. I got the Spanish latte hot with coconut milk! Not too sweet with the condensed milk. My bf got the white coconut crème tea with an added espresso shot and he added coconut milk per the barista's suggestion after he asked to add an espresso shot. He got it hot as well. It was delicious and you can taste the coconut very well. I got the matcha strawberry drink with almond milk for my mom. I tried a little and I didn't taste much of the strawberry myself but the matcha was tasty. If we are every back in town we will definitely come back for our caffeine needs! We spent the weekend in Idyllwild & went here everyday for a tasty latte. I'm picky about my coffee & Alpaca is on point. They use Stumptown beans & make great lattes. We split a brownie one day & that was excellent, but there's not a large selection of pasties, especially after the morning rush. The service is friendly & quick. I definitely recommend Alpaca. Solid, cute spot. When we went I think the employee was new and learning so the ordering process took a bit and our order was a bit messed up, but still enjoyed the coffee and location. Both drinks and customer service are not great. Not sure why it has great reviews at all. I came here two days in a row and ordered a chai on the first day and a lavender milk tea on the second day. Chai was water down and I spoke with the barista. They only offered to switch up the milk but didn't enhance the taste at all. I thought I'd give it another shot since the reviews are so great, and got the lavender milk tea that tasted nothing like milk tea nor lavender flavored anything. It was also water down. Excellent and friendly service!! I always make sure to stop by when I visit and they never disappoint! I recommend the Spanish iced latte!

Food is excellent. Tastes natural and I love the no heavy seasoning! Cappuccino is rich with milk flavor and lighter in coffee aroma. I like it but some ppl might rather have a stronger coffee taste one. Service may not be a 5 star because they seem to only have one server serving everyone so understandable it's going to be a bit slow. Food came out pretty quick though after ordered. Dog friendly but can only sit out on patio. Heater not available bc they don't have propane.. it's fine on the day we were there because it super nice and sunny. We chose a spot with sun on our back so it's nice but it can be very cold on other days. The place is neat and clean. Just the very regular family owed vibe. Parking was easy It seems like Alpaca has taken over the Mile High Cafe. It's all one space and the area that was the Mile High Cafe is now were you can sit for an Alpaca breakfast. Space is great for a sit down meal. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Service was wonderful. Food was delicious. You can taste the quality and they were not stingy with there servings. I loved my BTLA and the sweet potato fries. The crossiant was so buttery and flacky. I prefer my jam thicker than what was served. It was very liquidy. The taste was great but I do think it should have been a thicker consistency. The place was clean as was the bathroom. Would 100% return. It was best meal on the trip.
