Very happy with my experiences here at Alpha State Auto Repair. I brought my car in two weeks ago for an oil change, battery replacement, and spark plugs. The service was efficient and quick. Jose gave me a great deal and was very kind. Over the past 2 weeks my car has acted up twice and I brought it in today to make sure everything was okay. Jose took me in immediately and did a full inspection on my car for free and provided a complimentary oil treatment. I was given a massive attitude and hung up on while getting an estimate for a rear brake job, only because I told him that I don't think I need rotors. When I mentioned the fact that I worked in an autopart store and used to spend a lot of time with our machinists who cut rotors, he said "then take it to them" and hung up on me. I guess he was mad that I would not be easy to fool when it comes to my rotors. I also told him I bought my own pads, and he insisted that I buy their brand, which is $120. Ordered a Groupon and the manager was so rude. He tried to bait and switch the coupon. I've never had a mechanic tell me that they couldn't do an oil change for conventional oil. He honored a white ladies coupon but wouldn't honor my coupon. I got the sense that because I was Hispanic, that he wanted to upsell/upcharge me and take advantage of Hispanic people. I feel the mechanics treat white person one way and Hispanic like dirt. read more

Very bad experience, I came with a Groupon, and they told me to cancel, because it's much more than the Groupon. I paid $70 Groupon and they charge me for $800. Then now it's been a month ago and I had to bring back to another garage because they didn't do the job correctly. There is a tool loose inside the car. Very bad work. I won't recommend it at all. Paying that amount of money to have this kind of work. No thank you. Not to mention that of course I'm a women. So it might be easier for them to screw over people.... read more

Good prices. Not the best service but the prices are well worth it! I drove all the way from Beverly Hills to get an oil change here but when I arrived the staff didn't want to help me fix my leak or clean my pan insisted I come back another day because they were tired lol. I swear, only if the staff knew that I'm a heavy Yelp reviewer - I think they would be a lot nicer. Either way, go get your oil change & leave. Don't expect it to be five star service or for them to direct you in the right direction for any questions you may have. Also, Groupon offers a killer discount too! Either way, I'll be back. I called at 2:30pm on a Sunday needing brakes done. They told me to bring it in. By 4:30 they had done both front and rear brakes and rotors and at a third of the cost Pep Boys wanted to charge me. Owner was super nice and accommodating. Absolute angels. Don't know what I would have done without them! I will have all my work done here. Only place that doesn't rip you off! read more

This place is terrible and the owner is a complete fraudster. He runs a scam with Groupon. He lures you in the door with a seemingly good deal but will rip you off the first chance he gets, and if you refuse upsells, you're out your money. It's not even subtle. I went in knowing I only needed brake resurfacing and confirmed that with multiple professionals and even the dealership. Gerry takes a two-second look and says they need to be fully replaced plus rotors and quotes an insane price. He will use any made-up reason by the way and try to make you think like you don't know what you're talking about. The only people giving good reviews here are getting ripped off and they don't even know it. Don't be one of them. Oh, and then he'll cuss you out if you question him. I have gone to this place for oil change so many years. And I always had good experiences. But today they broke my car and they didn even tell me. I didnt see what they had done to my car until I got home. No wonder the guy didn't even have me sign the paper which he usually asks me to and send me home right away. They wrecked my front bumper badly. I called them before closing time but they didn't pick it up. My car was parked in the parking lot next door when I picked it up. It is obvious that they bumped into the curb and backed it up. I will call my lawyer if they are not honest with me. They can't do this to their customers. read more

if i could leave a zero star. or even do them as dirty as they did me i would!!!! don't let there kindness fool you! very unprofessional & not legitimate! i told them my "car has trouble starting" they "ran test" and found out it was my starter... so i paid $700 with labor (price of labor kept going up due to them taking longer) once i got my car back. not even 2 full days does my car do the exact same thing if not worse leaving me stranded not starting at all.... "offers life time warranty" but will find way to charge you the exact same price as they did the original time.... this time it "wasn't the starter" and in fact the whole time it was a $125 spark plug.. but they just wanted to screw me over & charge me for something i didn't need nor do you get refunded for that. would not recommend even to my worst enemies read more

Update: 3 for 3! Recently had some major work completed at Alpha State in Northridge. The intake manifold gasket on my GM 3100 V6 is not easily replaced. Owner Gerry assigned Carlos to do the job. He was meticulous, thorough and very knowledgeable. Three different mechanics have worked on my vehicle and all were superb. I'm 64 and have worked with several repair shops over the last almost fifty years (yikes). I'm telling all, this shop is different in a great way. if you care about how companies treat people and children, read on. I called at 3:50 to confirm when they closed (5pm) and they told me to come in. I was there 15 min later and they told me they couldn't service me for an oil change. Then after a back and forth with the owner who almost took me in, he then decided he wouldn't after all. I had told him I drove over because he had just told me to come in 15 min prior he said he didn't. I told him that was not ok and that I had driven all that way. (I am a single mom and don't have time and money to waste, but who does anyway?) Then he told me to leave as "he doesn't need this bullshit". This is absolutely unprofessional and rude, not to mention horrible to say to me in front of my children. I had to stand up to him and tell him that, as I never want my boys to think they could treat someone like this. He said he didn't care as he had so much business. He does not deserve to have a business if he doesn't treat people with respect and professionalism. I had come to this place several times already, and obviously never again. read more

Would never recommend. First time I went there was an issue with my Groupon - even though I called and confirmed that the Groupon would apply before I got there- I got there they wouldn't accept it and wanted me to pay more. Second time they told me I had a special car that needs two oil filters so refused to work on my Kia Sorrento when I refused to buy two oil filter (I don't know cars that well but I'm no dumby). Then Today I went in to get my brakes replaced and they refused to change my brakes because I came with my own brake pads and shoes - his response was "would you take your ex to breakfast (whatever the hell that means)- then tried to get me to pay more for their brand that was way worst quality! I WILL NEVER go back to, or recommend that money hungry sorry excuse for a mechanic shop. Waste of time. read more

I wanted to like this small spot for my go to oil change but the owner that always tries to nickel and dime is horrible at customer service. First of all he doesn't honor the Groupon deal. For example the groupon would be $35 and he'll say "okay it's $35 but you have to buy 2 more quarts so it's $65+" that's bs because my car only takes up 5 quarts you're saying it'll be half the price more just to add two?? Then he say "I'm fully booked today tomorrow and the next day" I'm sure he would've taken me in if I would pay full price. No one has time for your scamming bs. I called to schedule an appointment to use a Groupon voucher for a basic oil change. The guy who answered we extremely rude and was trying to upcharge me every chance he got. He told me my car took a "special" oil filter when it's just like any other car and the average price for an oil filter is $5.99. I told him if I'm paying extra for an oil filter that I want a good one installed and not the cheapest on they have a AutoZone. He then told me to change the oil myself and to not come in. As a business owner myself I can't believe these people are still in business after treating people so poorly and only going for the $ in their wallet. If you're looking for an honest mechanic that you can trust, this is not the place for you. Hopefully this helps the next person looking to get a basic oil change or anything else. read more

THIS PLACE IS A COMPLETE SCAM and destroyed my car. Sure they have some good reviews but keep in mind a scammer needs to do some good to keep customers coming. I got the Groupon for a full synthetic oil change. My car had absolutely NO ISSUE before coming to this shop. Once I left my car literally stopped working. Began with jerking and rattling, and the acceleration would lag taking off. I called the shop immediately and said what was wrong and they told me to bring it back. On my way back my car would not take off from a stop, it began revving loudly with out moving and overheated giving a burnt smell and my dash warning lights turned on. I had to pay for a tow truck ($125) to take my car to the shop. During my wait I had called the shop frustrated that this could happen. The man who I believe is the owner, a man of Indian nationality, instead of being quick to help he was defensive saying if it was their fault they would pay but if it wasn't it basically wasn't their problem. With his attitude towards the situation I told him that once I get there I hope he is honest with me since that was his response and if he wasn't I would get my insurance involved. He proceeded to boast saying he wasn't afraid of that and that he owned businesses and had a lot of money (total scammer response). Upon arriving they drain my oil (which spilled all over the floor and one guys face) and put new oil, did diagnostics (again) and said they didn't do anything must have been an issue I had before. Which I have never had any problems with this vehicle (2018 model). During the check I decided to watch the whole thing inside to make sure they weren't covering anything up and instead of talking in front of me one guy pulled the boss aside/outside to talk to him (clearly hiding something) They basically said they weren't responsible and argued with me trying to kick me out. Then tried to have me park my car in someone else's property that says "private/no parking". I then had to return later in the night to get it towed to a dealer, which is now going to cost me $220 just to check the car. I can only imagine how much the services will cost when they figure out what they did. But once they do, alpha state can be sure that I will be in touch with the bill they'll be paying. Set an apt, for 11am on a Friday. Upon arriving, very rude man (who wouldn't give me his name) told me that I have to come back in four hours. Four hours?! I'm a fairly understanding person, so if their had been even a hint of apology about the inconvenience I would have been understanding. Instead, he told me he "didn't care" that I couldnt come back in four hours because he didn't make my appointment. He was unbelievably rude and acted as though I was a nuisance for showing up at my appointment time. I'm assuming he's having a tough time in life or something, because I'm not sure why else someone would approach a well meaning and kind customer in such and aggressive manner.
