I was on a road trip when my car water pump and head gasket failed near the shop and I had to drive back to San Francisco. Gerry was able to check my car minutes before the shop closure and prioritize its repair for the next day. He even helped my and my girlfriend to find a hotel for the night! Next day he and his crew replaced the leaking water pump, tested the car for a few hours in that 120 degrees heat wave to find out that the head gasket is leaking too and then fixed it with a Blue Devil sealer. Thanks to Gerry the car made it back to San Francisco and is still drivable (that's rare after a head gasket failure without a new engine). I'm sure if Gerry can fix that severe of an issue, he'd for sure be able to take care of your minor needs like oil change. read more

I never leave reviews at places I visit, but I decided that i should leave one here so that this doesn't happen to anyone else. If I could give a 0 star rating I would. I had a Groupon for this location for an oil change. I have a 2016 Honda Civic and I had absolutely 0 problems with it before I came to this shop. About 30 minutes into the oil change, Jose comes out to tell me that for some reason, my car isn't starting. He proceeds to tell me that the alternator was messed up and that it would cost about $150 to get a new one. How he came to this conclusion after doing a simple oil change, I have no idea. After I told him that I didn't want it, he became pretty upset because I wasn't taking his advice and that he had "been doing this for 20 years" so he knew what he was talking about. I decided to take it to a Honda service center to make sure everything was okay. As soon as the service guy at Honda gets in my car, he told me that whoever told me that my alternator was broken was just trying to get money out of me. My Honda has been working perfectly fine since then. Don't come here! read more

I called yesterday (3/16/19 at 11am) and spoke with Jose to make an appt, he was very nice. I scheduled an appointment for 8am today. I arrived at 8am and the location was closed. I figured whoever was opening was prob running a little late. During the time I waited 5 cars all arrived, waited a couple minutes and left. Finally at 8:50 Kaz arrived and an employee from the car wash advised him that of the waiting vehicles I was the first one to arrive. When I told him I had a 8am appt he said they dont open at 8 on Sundays. I said, "Online your hours say 8-5." And he said "No one is ever here at 8." And I replied, "I was." And he said, "Yeah you ok but I wanted to sleep in. So, we didnt open." Like wtf? Then he said, "It's Jose's job to tell me if we have appointments. It's his fault." I could have slept in too, or not wasted an hour of my Sunday morning. But I dont expect a business to schedule appointments then just show up whenever they feel like waking up and being rude to me because I actually got there when that business told me to arrive. I purchased a groupon for an oil change. I had done this in the past getting my oil changed at alpha state auto repair in northridge. The last time I paid for synthetic but got conventional oil. I thought I would give them one more try and the middle eastern guy there couldnt have been more rude to me. I told him that i have a groupon for an oil change and he told me anything over 4 quarts of oil is $10 a quart. I told him i have a gallon of oil all i want is what i paid for. He said you looking for charity. I said i paid for the groupon thats all i want. He told me to go some place else. So they dont honor the groupons so dont bother with this place and the middle eastern dude that thinks he is all that is NOT. He is just an arrogant wanna be somebody. Rude rude rude and i have been going there for 4 years. Definitely not going back. Cant help but wonder if he treats all his regular customers like crap. I give this place a big giant ZERO! The owner Jerry is very nice and helpful, unfortunately his mechanics were not familiar with my car. I had them replace the timing belt at 99,000 miles, the mechanics most likely were doing this for the first time looking up you tube videos how to do the work. At 105,000 miles the belt snapped and when they put it back together they left things out like connecting hoses, changing gaskets etc. I am not a mechanic but try to follow manufacturers recommendations. Since they worked on it its been constantly going back to fix there mistakes-$4000 so far! BEWARE read more

These people are *amazing*. I can't express how incredibly grateful I am to have finally found an *honest* mechanic. Last week, I was about to make a turn into the Target across the street when my right front wheel came right off! I was shocked and I've never seen this happen before. Joe, one of the mechanics, was just closing as this happened and was nice enough to approach me as I was sitting on the sidewalk completely flustered as I was waiting for a tow truck to move my car off the street. Mind you, this was around 5:00 p.m. when most shops would be closing. Joe told me that he was a mechanic and that he just closed his shop across the street (at the Shell gas station), but that if I pulled my car there, he would have a look at it in the morning. When the AAA came to tow my car, I had them tow it to his shop. I don't have a "trusted mechanic" and I didn't know where else to go. The next morning, I called and Joe told me he needed the key and that he'd be able to look at the car that afternoon. I dropped off the keys and that afternoon he told me that he found the following problems: the upper and lower ball joints, the ABS line, and the break line broke. Additionally, he'd need to replace the brake fluid that all leaked out. He gave me his word to buy only used parts to keep the cost as low as possible. I'm so grateful that I trusted him, because his quote was incredibly affordable for a multi-day job. He made sure to check with me that I was okay with the cost before doing any work and reassured me that he'd call me if he had to order any parts that would bring the car outside of the agreed estimate. My car broke down on Thursday, he worked on it on Friday and by Saturday afternoon I was able to pick it up. I'm immensely grateful to Joe and any staff who worked on my car at Alpha State Auto Repair. I will definitely recommend them to anyone I know and plan to bring my car back in the future. This place is a joke and yes now after reading some of the reviews which I wish I had done before even coming here I agree that majority of the good reviews must have been with the previous owner or friends/family of this owner. So I got excited cause they're open on Sundays and thought that most mechanics are closed on Sundays. I also saw 4.5 star rating on yelp so I assumed they were good and trustworthy. I didn't think to scroll down and really check out the company before coming here. First off they took way too long to diagnose my car and than they didn't even call me once the diagnostic on it was done. I got a really bad feeling when it had been three hours later and I still wasn't hearing back from them. Second off they told me this was a major major problem and it's major leak about a 2000 dollar job. That I shouldn't even be driving this car is what they made it sound like. They also told me that this was a different job and place than where it actually was. I didn't believe this because I haven't been having any symptoms of an oil leak no smoke no driving in the red no Smokey scent no major oil leakage every time I move my car so luckily I knew what to look for and new they were hoaxing me. They said this is a crank seal oil leak and it was actually a valve seal leak. They said it was major and really it's very minor. Than they charged me 75 dollars for what? They didn't even diagnose my car correctly and now Ive been ripped off by this company!! Don't come here!! Thank god for firestone and my good friends roommate josh in north Hollywood!! read more

Purchased a Groupon and after going to the appointment was told the Groupon would require en extra charge for a 5th quart of oil on some models. Mind you my car is a 2008 Accord .. the most basic vehicle there is. I told them I wouldn't be upsold and to honor the coupon as written and provide 4 quarts. They claimed they couldn't do this. Obviously because they only make money when they charge you for a quart of oil at whatever price they choose. Don't buy the Groupon or go here. They offered no concessions or customer service. They'll tell you to read the fine print but we all know that there isn't fine print on paying for something and getting what you expect. If they can't fleece you; they'll send you away. Criminal. I made an appointment . Showed up on time. Tried to make an honest transaction and was told to go home unless I take part in their racketeering business model...Could have bought a different properly advertised coupon and not wasted my time.
