The smallest salmon add on I have ever seen. $16 for this piece that is the size of my fork.

I am not one to ever write a review or complain about a meal. My daughter and I ordered a salad and added salmon to the salad. I have never received a piece of salmon this small. My fork was bigger than the salmon portion they provided with a $16 price tag for the added salmon. Just want to warn people, as they should have to put on their menu how small the protein add on actually is. This may have been 2-3 ounces. This was just plain ridiculous.

First I want to say Chi, our server was fantastic. There was never a moment where they didn't ask how we were, if we needed anything and if we were satisfied. This place was also nearly empty because we went at an awkward time, so I am unsure how normally the service is, but ours was great. So we came in at 3:30pm, right after lunch and before dinner. So our menu options were very limited. We could only pick from the starters/shares, soups and salads, and the burger. After seeing our options we opted for the Brussels sprouts (which we remembered liking when we last visited about 3 years ago), the bread service, the French onion soup and the spruce burger. The bread came first, and it was drastically disappointing as it was far too seasoned, making it very....over powering while also being dry. Then the brussels sprouts came and although they had good flavor, they were a little undercooked. Plus the toppings they put on (the fondue, the apple and the maple) should have been incorporated a bit more throughout the dish. Then the onion soup and burger came. Both were....fine but disappointing again. The soup was lacking so much depth, it felt like it needed another hour or two to cook. Once I added salt, it was better but just slicked on the tongue like oil. Not much flavor. The burger was rather thick, with again not much flavor. With a lot of ketchup it was better, but again as it was, wasn't great. When we got the bill, I decided this three star experience went down to two. For the price at $60+ for a meal that was just disappointing left and right, we did not return again during our stay at the Lodge. This just felt like an overpriced meal that was not worth it.

Nice ambiance, nice restaurant on the premises of The Lodge. Closes at 10:00pm and we got here at 9:30pm driving up from NH. The lamb chops were delish. The polenta sticks were so good. The lamb was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. I thouroughly enjoyed my meal. My husband ordered the chicken and it was just okay not great but it was thoughtfully prepared. The kids steak was a very good balanced meal. Love how it came with veggies and fruits and fries. The service was good especially considering we walked in at last call and the kids wanted dessert too. Thank you Dawn!

As time has gone by, our desire for a leisurely lunch during a ski day has become prevalent. Although we are still attached to a vigorous time on the slopes, our break has become a respite away from the now exasperating lines and lift line overcrowding. The last thing we want to experience during lunch is yet another elbow-to-elbow crunch with bumptious people and screaming kids. So instead of cafeterias, we now look for resort sit-down, full service restaurants, away from a cafeteria madness... Such was the case in our recent visit to Stowe, VT, the queen of New England skiing. After a superb day on the Gondola and Four-Runner's front face trails, were ready for a leisurely break. And just off the village gondola, Alpine Hall was just a turn away. Although with no reservations, we were seated right away in a table overlooking the village, great for people watching and enjoying the bluebird day. Alpine Hall is an expansive and sumptuous venue, with three-story high ceilings and monumental windows to the outside. It's ultra modern decore matches the glass bar and furnishings, It is both spectacular and relaxing. Our waitress was a wonderful Jamaican lady - they make the difference between good and excellent service and food at many resorts such as Stowe and Killington. She was adorable and knew the menu inside out. She was part of the experience. We started our lunch with a glass of Domain Pouilly-Fuissé '20, one amazing glass of wine. Our other companions also ordered Alchemist's sumptuous Heady Topper and a Lawson's selection. And for starters, we ordered a couple of plates to share. First, the Fried Clams. These were light and tender, delectable to the taste buds as well as the senses, accompanied with a magnificent lemon, basil, and a banana pepper aioli. The second plate was the Alpine Hall Brussels Sprouts, and these exceded all expectations... Our lunch main courses consisted of a Duck Confit Grilled Cheese, a succulent sourdough confection with cheddar, alpine cheese, blueberry jam, mustard and duck confit. We also ordered an Alpine Turkey Burger, deliciously cooked Vermont turkey with alpine cheese, a good portion of roasted mushrooms, red onion marmalade, garlic confit aioli on a brioche bun. And I had the Cobb Salad with salmon on top, together with blue cheese, hemp seed and buttermilk dressing. The dessert menu is also amazing but we had no room for it if we were going to have an afternoon of snow sports, so we gave up on the dessert. One amazing lunch in an amazing venue with absolutely impeccable service.

We were staying at the hotel and came in for dinner and a brunch the next day. My favorite was the brunch so I will give that 5/5 stars. Yes, it's a little pricey at $34pp but what do you expect at a fancy establishment. I felt the price was reasonable. This includes meats, fruit, oatmeal, pancakes, French toast, eggs, cereal, lox station and much more. Also included is the coffee with juice. Service is amazing as they hire great staff! We had drinks earlier in the day and sat at the bar. Bartenders are great. Wine prices are too steep for me. They have some crafted cocktails that are more reasonable to choose. The large granite bar is very pretty and their libation selection is impressive. Dinner was subpar and I really wouldn't recommend. Stars for dinner 3/3. I will say the mussels were amazing and worth trying. We sent back the calamari for being over done. We shared the mushroom pasta that was so bland and not sure why mushroom is in the title because I think I found 3 of them. My Tito's dirty martini was $20 and that is outrageous in my opinion. In summary, drinks are great, some overpriced. Mussels outstanding. Brunch is recommended and dinner is a hard pass.

We had the spruce burger, chicken burger and ceasar salad. Alfresco dining is available. The service is good, food is so-so for quality but for quantity is a small serving noting its price and use of plate for serving. They do have a high chair and the ambiance is calming due to the high ceiling design. They raccept credit/debit. Alot of parking space. You could use the parking space of the gondola skyride and use the overeasy gondola to ride for free.

Pretty much dinner - worth it, breakfast - rethink it. Let's start with the good: dinner.Their prices are on the higher side but everything is delicious and farm to table. We've gotten everything from their scallops to their mac and cheese to their wagyu steak topped with foie gras to their 32 oz Tomahawk Steak. The menu is always changing and being updated. From what I remember, it's way more decadent in the colder months which does make sense. If you're considering a more upscale dining experience for the evening, I would definitely consider this restaurant. Now for breakfast. They have a breakfast buffet option that seems to have a gone a bit downhill. In addition to the items sitting there, they used to have an omelet stand and smoked salmon which seemed to have disappeared the last two times we were there. Remove those items and you can't really justify the price for what is available. From the top of my head, they have cold oatmeal, pancakes, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, bagel/bread assortment, mini pastries, yogurt and toppings. They no longer had french toast either on their a la carte menu (which let me tell you, was so delicious) or as part of their buffet. I've also ordered the Nosedive sandwich from their a la carte menu, which is basically a fancy egg and cheese sandwich. Don't get me wrong - it's delicious - but it starts to not taste as wonderful when you realize that you're being charged $17 for this small sandwich.

What we got was a textbook tourist trap with a view. Yes, the setting is gorgeous. Vermont mountains in the distance, open-air ambiance, cozy lighting. But once the food hits the table, the charm dies fast. I ordered the grilled chicken. What arrived was three thin slices of poultry on a puddle of sauce, garnished with a few microgreens. It looked more like a sample than a $44 entrée. My wife's "Gnudi" was overpowered by a bitter green sauce, rubbery in texture, and she couldn't finish it. I ended up eating both meals just to feel like I had dinner, but left still hungry. We ended up grabbing pizza afterward because we felt completely ripped off. The bill? $80 before tip. For what amounts to two appetizers. No drinks, no dessert, no extras. To add insult to injury: they charge you $25 per person if you cancel a reservation. That should have been our first red flag. This restaurant survives off its view and inflated reputation. The food is nowhere near the quality or portion size you'd expect at this price point. The 4.5-star rating is wildly misleading and risks conning more travelers like us. We left upset, unsatisfied, and shocked that this place gets away with calling itself fine dining. Save your money and your evening. Go somewhere that cares more about the plate than the patio.

The delectable dishes more than make up for the limited number of offerings; there's something for everyone at Michael's On The HIll. My partner and I visited Michael's On The Hill on a Saturday evening in mid-March; we reserved a table for two after we finished skiing at nearby Stowe. If you want a table during the high season, reserve it early--space is limited. Andrew greeted us at the door and after escorting us to our table, handed us off to Heather, our server. Heather is a Professional Server and it shows: Throughout our two+ hour meal, she was available but never intrusive and conversational but never too familiar: She's worked at Michael's for more than two decades and knows the menu perhaps better than the Chef--her recommendations were excellent: Rather than pushing the highest-price menu items, she suggested dishes based on her knowledge, experience, and guest preferences. We started with the local Artisinal cheese plate--three generous cheese selections accompanied by apricot chutney, sweet red grapes, pickled vegetables, candied walnuts, and toast points. The balance of sweet and sour was superlative; the appetizer presented tastefully on a cured wood bark platter--two or three people can pick their favorites and mix and match flavors. The tasteful teaser was a trailer for the main attraction. For entrees, I had the Maple Glazed Duck Breast with Cider Duck Glace accompanied by sweet potato hash, Orange and Arugula salad, and roasted baby carrots; my partner had the special: Beef Bourguignon on top of a cheese polenta with sauteed spinach and a delightful Mirepoix ("meer-PWAH"). Beef Bourguignon is a classic French stew of tender beef braised in red wine--hearty, flavorful, and filling, this French dish is perfect after a long day of skiing. Executive Chef Hess' flourishes transformed the traditional dish into a magically delicious medley of complementary flavors. The duck was cooked to perfection: Soft, warm, and tender on the inside with a hint of smokiness--balanced nicely by the maple glaze and the cider glace. The sweet potato hash was actually small, sweet potato "cubes" mostly hidden below the citrusy salad. When I finally forked the sweet potato cubes, they'd soaked up the cider duck glace, detonating a cluster bomb of flavors in my mouth. We paired the smokey duck and stewy Beef with a succulent bottle of Andrew Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon, whose rich cherry-cassis notes and silky tannins enhanced the sauces and spices of our entrees. Micheal's wine list reads like a Great Novel--long, engaging, occasionally intimidating. Here's where Heather re-enters our Micheal's meal story: In addition to letting us taste an alternative or two from already-open bottles, her familiarity with the menu made our decision much easier. Finally, because I just can't say no to Tiramisu, we were presented with a generous slice of sponge cake soaked in espresso (beans cured down the street), layered with whipped Moscarpone cheese, topped with cocoa powder. We cherished a couple bites and asked to take the remainder home (by the way, Tiramisu is part of a healthy breakfast). Yes, Michael's On The Hill is pricey--with a 23% percent tip, our meal was about $275--but every bite was worth it. Find out for yourself.
