Fish Tacos

Located on the 2nd floor above the Lodge is where you can find this restaurant! If you're in the main parking lot, take the Over Easy Gondola over and you'll be right where the Lodge is located. There's also parking located closer to this area as well. Be prepared to pay a little bit more money because it's resort food of course.. but when you've been hitting the slopes, you build a big appetite. This place also has alcohol for those of you looking for those beverages as well! The food options were great.. but service is a bit slow! Saw lots of disappointed people wondering where their food is and even heard that the wait time is a bit ridiculous. I'm thinking they were starving from all the snowboarding haha and waited too long to eat. Lobster Sliders I chose this as my meal, comes with 3 sliders. While the flavor was good, I wish I had a bit more lobster to it. It was one tiny serving per slider, but what I had was yummy. The buns were buttered and toasted which was a nice touch! Fish Tacos My husband had the fish tacos which had Swordfish as the fish. It had a good amount of fish, so serving size wise... it was great! But when he started eating it, it was a mess. Everything was falling apart. The tortilla was cold. The dressing they had on it had no flavor. So all in all, he was disappointed.

$28 breakfast buffet with powdered eggs. Screw this place, and whoever though this was a good idea.

Incredibly over-priced. You're at the resort, so you expect to be gouged, but you also expect a quality buffet at such a nice hotel from their "fine dining" restaurant. This is what the $28 breakfast buffet looks like if you're a vegetarian: powdered eggs, boring fruit, and toast from Shaw's. Go downtown to someplace else, don't give Vail anymore money than you have to. There is also no coffee, water, or juice at the buffet. You think they could afford to throw that in after charging $28 for the saddest food in Vermont. Other than the awful food the staff is awesome. But you feel bad that they have to constantly apologize for this place.

The beautiful view of the mountain is about the only good thing I have to say about this restaurant. We came here for an early-morning breakfast before hitting the slopes. The restaurant was nearly empty, yet we were seated right next to a family with six young, and very loud, kids. Our waiter was inattentive and left our food sitting under the heat lamps for at least 10 minutes before bringing it to our table. I ordered an omelette with a side of fruit and my boyfriend ordered the lox bagel. Neither were worth half of what we paid for them. I would definitely never eat here again.

Solstice was our second choice restaurant for our anni celebration dinner (couldn't get reservations for Cliff House). While the service and ambiance were excellent, the food left a lot to be desired. Drinks: A glass of sparkling rosé for me and cab sauv for him. They just updated and expanded their wine list. The pear martini seemed to be a good choice too - it was garnished with a whole pear slice! Apps: The amuse-bouche (shredded carrots and raisin slaw) lacked a desirable punch of flavor for a pre-courser. We started with a cheese plate and chose all local VT brands: Cabot Creamery's cheddar (cow's milk), Lake's Edge (goat's milk with a soft consistency), and Verano (sheep's milk, similar to blue cheese). This was the highlight of our meal - the cheeses and the accompaniments (raw honey from Lake Champlain, walnuts, and stone fruit chutney) were all phenomenal. Yup, this was my kind of night cheese (Liz Lemon reference). The pan seared foie gras was also delicious and I'm not even a big fan of duck liver. Entrees: I ordered the pan seared scallops with butter poached lobster [claws] enhancement. The dish was beautifully presented, but only one side of the scallops was seared, and that side was burnt; meanwhile the lobster meat was a tad overcooked. My bf ordered the chef's signature item: braised lamb shank with mashed polenta - we've had more tender lamb at restaurants in our hometown, Boston. We shared the tasting flight of 3 sides (truffled mac & VT cheddar cheese, whipped potatoes, and ratatouille) - good but nothing 'wow' about them. No dessert for us but we did enjoy the complimentary petit four (tartlets with liquid caramel and Himalayan salt). Our waiters (we had two) were knowledgeable and friendly. The space was elegant, warm and inviting. However, the food was sub-par at the high price point. I might give brunch a try next time but won't return for dinner.

Casual relaxed atmosphere. Prompt and friendly servers. Was offered refills on coffee quickly and a to-go cup. Food came quickly (brioche French toast had some nice fruit, my daughter had the Nutella lover's French toast which she liked - bananas on the side were too mushy for her liking) Coffee was good, as was the orange juice. Found the breakfast pricy, but that's typical for a resort of this level (it's in the Stowe mountain lodge)

The highlight for us was the exceptional service from Stacy-Ann and Carolyn, who were both incredibly sweet and attentive with our young children. They made us feel truly welcome and helped create a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere each time. The cocktails were excellent, and the buffet brunch was a quite good--fresh even though we were there near the end, well-prepared, and great value for our family since kids under a certain age eat brunch free. While some dishes across our visits were just okay, others were quite good, and the variety kept things interesting. As expected for a resort, prices are on the higher end, but the ambiance, convenience, and especially the staff make it worth it. Some of the people at the hostess stand were good, several were really quite bad. We'd definitely return on a future visit to Stowe!

A Masterclass in Deception. Do Not Be Fooled by the 4.5 Stars…read more My wife and I came here expecting a special dinner based on glowing reviews. What we got was a textbook tourist trap with a view. Yes, the setting is gorgeous. Vermont mountains in the distance, open-air ambiance, cozy lighting. But once the food hits the table, the charm dies fast. I ordered the grilled chicken. What arrived was three thin slices of poultry on a puddle of sauce, garnished with a few microgreens. It looked more like a sample than a $44 entrée. My wife's "Gnudi" was overpowered by a bitter green sauce, rubbery in texture, and she couldn't finish it. I ended up eating both meals just to feel like I had dinner, but left still hungry. We ended up grabbing pizza afterward because we felt completely ripped off. The bill? $80 before tip. For what amounts to two appetizers. No drinks, no dessert, no extras. To add insult to injury: they charge you $25 per person if you cancel a reservation. That should have been our first red flag. This restaurant survives off its view and inflated reputation. The food is nowhere near the quality or portion size you'd expect at this price point. The 4.5-star rating is wildly misleading and risks conning more travelers like us. We left upset, unsatisfied, and shocked that this place gets away with calling itself fine dining. Save your money and your evening. Go somewhere that cares more about the plate than the patio.

A palette-pleasing panoply of plated perfection, Michael's On The Hill puts "epic" in epicurean…read more The Farm to Table restaurant offers fresh local delights, served with carefully concocted condiments that complement--but never overwhelm--the thoughtfully selected appetizers and entrees. The delectable dishes more than make up for the limited number of offerings; there's something for everyone at Michael's On The HIll. My partner and I visited Michael's On The Hill on a Saturday evening in mid-March; we reserved a table for two after we finished skiing at nearby Stowe. If you want a table during the high season, reserve it early--space is limited. Andrew greeted us at the door and after escorting us to our table, handed us off to Heather, our server. Heather is a Professional Server and it shows: Throughout our two+ hour meal, she was available but never intrusive and conversational but never too familiar: She's worked at Michael's for more than two decades and knows the menu perhaps better than the Chef--her recommendations were excellent: Rather than pushing the highest-price menu items, she suggested dishes based on her knowledge, experience, and guest preferences. We started with the local Artisinal cheese plate--three generous cheese selections accompanied by apricot chutney, sweet red grapes, pickled vegetables, candied walnuts, and toast points. The balance of sweet and sour was superlative; the appetizer presented tastefully on a cured wood bark platter--two or three people can pick their favorites and mix and match flavors. The tasteful teaser was a trailer for the main attraction. For entrees, I had the Maple Glazed Duck Breast with Cider Duck Glace accompanied by sweet potato hash, Orange and Arugula salad, and roasted baby carrots; my partner had the special: Beef Bourguignon on top of a cheese polenta with sauteed spinach and a delightful Mirepoix ("meer-PWAH"). Beef Bourguignon is a classic French stew of tender beef braised in red wine--hearty, flavorful, and filling, this French dish is perfect after a long day of skiing. Executive Chef Hess' flourishes transformed the traditional dish into a magically delicious medley of complementary flavors. The duck was cooked to perfection: Soft, warm, and tender on the inside with a hint of smokiness--balanced nicely by the maple glaze and the cider glace. The sweet potato hash was actually small, sweet potato "cubes" mostly hidden below the citrusy salad. When I finally forked the sweet potato cubes, they'd soaked up the cider duck glace, detonating a cluster bomb of flavors in my mouth. We paired the smokey duck and stewy Beef with a succulent bottle of Andrew Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon, whose rich cherry-cassis notes and silky tannins enhanced the sauces and spices of our entrees. Micheal's wine list reads like a Great Novel--long, engaging, occasionally intimidating. Here's where Heather re-enters our Micheal's meal story: In addition to letting us taste an alternative or two from already-open bottles, her familiarity with the menu made our decision much easier. Finally, because I just can't say no to Tiramisu, we were presented with a generous slice of sponge cake soaked in espresso (beans cured down the street), layered with whipped Moscarpone cheese, topped with cocoa powder. We cherished a couple bites and asked to take the remainder home (by the way, Tiramisu is part of a healthy breakfast). Yes, Michael's On The Hill is pricey--with a 23% percent tip, our meal was about $275--but every bite was worth it. Find out for yourself.
