Came here for breakfast as it was included in our room package. Breakfast came with: - tea or coffee - juice - entree Which was pretty good! Hubby and I ordered: - coffee - tea - apple juice - pineapple juice - Flannel Hash (beets, potatoes, corn beef, eggs, toast) - Benny (poached eggs, black forest ham and maple chive hollandaise on a griddled muffin) - short stakes: 3 pancakes (we paid extra for this) Everything was really good! Really tasty and definitely recommend breakfast here! The pancakes were really fluffy and light. Topped with butter and maple syrup - it was delicious! Too bad we didn't have a bigger stomach, as I would have loved to try the french toast too! read more

Food is topnotch here. The bread service was impressive, as the butter was perfectly light - melting on the bread. Ordered the chicken, which always is hit or miss, was a hit. Crispy, juicy chicken with an assortment of potatoes, multicolored carrots, candied hot pepper slices all brought together with an delicious soubise sauce. Ryan the chef was kind and offered me some maple sugar frozen yogurt for dessert. It was incredible. Top 10 ice cream I've had. Breaking fast review I'll do, for dinner was too full for our purview. So we sat and ate before it got too too late. The eggs were good, the home fries too, the sausages sweet as honey dew. Our server Lynn, pouring coffee for two, had us feeling right at home while we drank the brew. We were early so the crowd was scarce and few as we enjoyed our stay and the breakfast view. My husband and I were told this was the fine dining option at the resort, the alternative to the bar area. We called to make a reservation and got voicemail, so we walked in. There were several open tables and the guests were all wearing their coats. That should have been a hint. We were seated next to the window and asked to move because it was so cold. The hostess said the AC was on inexplicably and maintenance people "had been notified." There was a football game on and people were loudly reacting. This was not fine dining by any definition. We ordered drinks, which took about 10 minutes to arrive. My husband ordered salad with a vinaigrette dressing and it came with a cup of vinegar. The waitress apologized and brought dressing. The bread finally arrived. Entrees were served several minutes apart. Food was fine, above average. We ordered pie for dessert and it took forever to arrive and was ice cold. Basically, there didn't seem to be any manager in sight and it was all just really casual and lazy execution. We asked the front desk if we could give feedback to a manager but were told he was "not around." This is a resort in a spectacular location, with rates starting at $500 a night right now. wow Wow WOW. BEST MEAL IN STOWE. I waited to write my reviews until the end of our trip so I could appropriately compare. Flannel was hands down the best meal of the weekend. First of all, the cheese...THE CHEESE!!! De-li-cious. Hopefully you can see the picture - the mountain ash and crottina were phenomenal. Couldn't get enough. There's also a pasta dish on the appetizer menu. You HAVE to try it!! Was holy cow incredible. As in I think I scared the busboy by yelling "NOOOO!" when he tried to clear my plate before I had sopped up every last bit of the sauce. We sat outside which had its own charm. Fire pit to our right, fire feature and the mountains straight ahead, and as an added bonus a wedding nearby filled the air with awesome wedding band tunes. Nearby Roost was almost totally empty - but I have to bet the food could be on par if Flannel is booked. Can't WAIT for an opportunity to go back! read more

So disappointing. First of all whoever gave this a $$ rating is insane. At least $$$ if not $$$$ Small pour expensive cocktails. As for the food. Fois Gras...sent it back, over cooked. A little flavorless and over powered by the apple cinnamon base. Fois Gras should be pretty amazing on its own. It wasn't. Dim Sum Appetizer was fried and over cooked. Aweful. My husbands NY Strip was tough and over cooked. Ahi Tuna was great but served cold. Finally I had the butternut squash Pappardelle and the squash wasn't cooked. It was hard and inedible. So. I got their butternut squash bisque, the squash and kale salad, and a side of the most DELICIOUS shiitake mushroom quinoa salad with pomegranate seeds in it that was part of their special of the night. Also their rosemary garlic bread is AMAZING they even brought me oil to dip it in. My waitress was extremely helpful and accommodating and also informed me that all of the salads except for the Caesar were vegan. You can also veganize the vegetable risotto by asking for it without cheese and you can also also veganize the tuna dish! Great restaurant inside beautiful resort in a gorgeous part of the country. Just minutes from Smugglers Notch, tons of ski slopes and hiking trails. The restaurant looks out over the mountains and has lots of veggie options. They were also flexible with changes and had healthy options for kids. The breakfast was ok but not amazing. I'd expect a large buffet at a hotel of this price. Staff are very friendly. read more

We were on our honeymoon looking for a dog-friendly place for dinner, as we had our fur baby with us on the trip. The Flannel told us they had a patio, and we decided to give them a try. It was VERY dark on the patio, to the point where we needed to use the lights from our phones to see the menu. The restaurant wasn't busy but the service was still very slow. We got the impression that the waitstaff was bothered by having to come out to the patio. We ordered the Hudson Valley foie gras appetizer and the duck breast entree to split. Apparently the waiter thought we wanted the food to all come out at once, so we waited near an hour to eat. They never asked us if we wanted the appetizer to come out first. The foie gras was bitter. It should never be bitter. It was also very cold. Clearly the chef prepared the foie and it sat in the window while they waited for the entree to cook. I ate in anyway because it's my personal policy to not waste foie gras, even though I knew I would still have to pay for the poorly prepared dish. My husband didn't bother. The waiter informed us that the chef was going to prepare a few portions of foie for the waitstaff to try to see what went wrong. Um, great? Thanks for telling us that, I guess. Let me be clear, I ate the food and I let them know afterward that it was not what I expected foie to be. I didn't want them to take it off the bill or anything, but we ended up spending a lot of time discussing it and getting told now the waitstaff would get to eat fresh portions. I laughed and told the waiter that at least now he would get to eat some foie, and his response was "Eh, I'd prefer the duck." Cool. Anyhow, the duck breast entree was fantastic, so that's what gets the three stars. We only go to Stowe once a year, but I absolutely would not come back. It was $90 for two beers, an app and an entree that we ate in the dark. I'll pass next time. read more

I can't be more disappointed in this experience... We looked for a $$ restaurant and were greeted with $30 entrees. While the price isn't an issue, it doesn't match my $$ expectations. The ambiance was good, so I was hopeful that we would be upgrading our anticipated meal, but to no avail. We ordered cheese to start which was tasty, but the accompaniments did not pair with the cheese flavors well. For $7 per piece of cheese it was disappointing. Our duck dumplings came at the same time as our cheese and was over cooked, merely warm and adequate at best. We told our waiter at the beginning we were starving and wanted to get some starters first yet after delivering our cheese and dumplings we didn't see him until several minutes after our appetizers were done. Given our poor experience to this point we elected to split a burger to limit our investment. This too was poorly executed. Our medium burger was well done and delivered luke warm at best. We were once again disappointed when receiving the bill in that our vodka tonics (grey goose) cost the same as their "signature craft cocktails." The only saving grace is that the waiter comp'd our burger, but if still never go back. For a $100 meal go to Green Goddess - five times, stay away from this place. read more

We were seated immediately and I was actually shocked how empty it was (should have been the first sign). We ordered drinks and our meals and enjoyed the bread with oil/hummus samples. I got the Gnocchi and it was amazing, it was some of the best I have had in a long time, it was a small plate item but figuring I didn't have a huge appetite this was perfect. He got the steak; cooked medium at first glance it was crispy on the outside and when cut into it was slightly overdone but not worth saying anything about, but it was also very tough. To the point that he literally had to saw it with a lot of force and then chew each piece for over a minute, this was something worth mentioning for a $32 steak. We mentioned it to the waitress who immediately tried to explain that steak can be like this sometimes as if this is the first time we have ever ordered steak. He grinned and figured he would go at a few more pieces. Not enjoying it and having had only a little of it we mentioned it again, this time the waitress took his plate to the cook and returned with this explanation, "it's not that tough, and if you flip it upside down it's easier to cut"...really?! Well, maybe with some really sharp knives like she had it wouldn't be an issue...but not the point...who in their right mind as a cook says this to a customer? They were not providing a new piece or even offering something different from the menu. Instead a "manager" came by and told us she will cover dessert. My response to this was "you can keep your dessert, and you have lost a customer". We were not looking for a free meal, just something edible, at a minimum form working in the industry back in the day they could have deducted $10 off his meal since he didn't finish a good portion of it. This was a very disheartening experience and they should be ashamed, was this attitude because were in our early 30'? Is it because we didn't look rich? We save up for our vacation and splurge on what was supposed to be a fantastic meal for both of us and are left angry (and him hungry). read more

This only speaks to one experience: Evening drinks & desserts at the outdoor tables by the pool, under the beautiful Vermont sky. We even managed to see some fireworks. Service was pleasant. I hadn't brought a coat, so they let me borrow a shawl. To drink: Heady Topper. They had some good looking cocktails, but you can't say no to Alchemist's finest brew. Each dessert was appropriately portioned. Not too big or too small. We had a delicious chocolate pot de creme, with luscious whipped cream and ice cream. Very overpriced for the quality of food you get. Tartare had too strong of a rosemary taste (also had pieces of shell from the egg) and the raviolo was so so thick and undercooked. Cheese board did contain a nice selection of local products. You can see in the kitchen and none of the cooks are talking to each other which is never a good sign. Mediocre at best. I was there on business and the restaurant was recommended by the front desk staff at the hotel. I was not very impressed. When we first arrived the maintenance staff had to find a waitress to get us seated. After we were seated we our order was finally brought to us. My coworker ordered well done bacon and he had to return it to be cooked more. After a bit his bacon was finally delivered and I could tell he was still unhappy. For the price of the breakfast they should be able to get it right the first time. The breakfast was WAY over priced. I could see if I were on top of the mountain and they had to deliver the food via snow machine but being close to town 15.00 for 2 eggs is a bit outrageous and it was not very good. If I were to stay at the hotel I would probably head into town and eat. read more

Our family of four dined there this past week and we were really underwhelmed. The entrees are very expensive for the quality you get. The salads were ok and the mains were "good". But for $33 they better be great. There were not enough staff working. So while our waitress was nice we felt her "frantic" pace. We left a nice tip because they were working really hard, but it wasn't a pleasant experience feeling so hurried. The place is LOUD which wasn't right for us. And while they tried to make it seem like an nice restaurant it's not. There is a big TV over the bar and kids dressed in sneakers and T-shirts. You can't have it both ways. Either it's a nice restaurant with good food or it's a pub. They have to pick. I would recommend Edson Hill or The Bistro at 10 Acres as far better alternatives in the area and similar price point. read more

It's the best by far from the rest in this area. They're most of the time very busy and fully booked so you better call in advance to make a reservation. Experience was an overall disappointment as we were excited when looking at the menu. Service was terrible, the server was nice but staff was not attentive and the location seemed to be understaffed and undertrained (I.e. did not give us water, plates or utensils until we asked multiple times). To make matters worse, the food was way over priced for quality and quantity. Appetizers were bland and entrees were just ok. This place gets a $$ for price but is one of the most expensive places in Stowe and should not be under a $$$$ tag. Definitely will not return again even if meal was comped. read more

We went to Flannel on Valentine's Day, the riskiest day of the year to eat out. Restaurants are so busy that the food and service are usually sub-par. Not in this case! We sat at the counter and were able to watch the open kitchen where the chefs performed their magic. Like clockwork, a well-oiled machine, they prepared works of art with every meal. We shared gnocchi to start. Delicious. My entree was Crispy Duck Breast. It was easily the best I've ever had - cooked to perfection so it remained succulent and juicy. Ummmm... I requested a change in the side dishes, and because it was such a busy night, I was very impressed that they accommodated. Spaetzel and baby Brussel Sprouts were also wonderful. We watched the dessert chef all night because he was right in front of us. We couldn't decide which delicacy we wanted to order. But unfortunately, when we finished our meal, we were too full to eat one. Our waitress was attentive without being obtrusive. The manager came over several times, put his hands on our shoulders, and asked 'How is everything?' And 'Is there anything at all I can get for you?' And amazingly, he waited for an answer! At the end of the night, he handed us a long-stemmed rose. As we walked to our car, a delightful sight awaited - light snow had been falling, and every car window had a couple of hearts drawn in the snow! Flannel is pricey, but worth every penny, especially if you have something to celebrate. The whole evening was wonderful, start to finish. The pleasant memory of it will be with me for a long, long time. read more

We went to Flannel Saturday night, for my birthday dinner. The staff was very friendly and the service was great. I like the ambiance of the restaurant, however the noise level was little more than expected, most likely from the open kitchen. I was super disappointed with the food. I had the kale salad to start which had a funky taste to it. Then, for dinner, I had the Saffron Risotto which was so unfortunately lacking in flavor. The main flavor was a Smokey grilled flavor that overtook every bit of the seafood. My husband's filet was slightly better but also had the overall Smokey flavor as well. This was super unfortunate for the high price. Definitely not worth it. Lastly, silly to mention but in the reservation we mentioned that it was my birthday when asked what the dinner was for and they never said anything about it at the restaurant. Thanksgiving day, 2015. Definitely the most underwhelming Thanksgiving meal I've ever experienced. We arrived in time for our reservation and were escorted to a beautiful dining room upstairs where we were told they did not have a reservation. After some digging they realized we were here for the "buffet" and told us to return downstairs to see Diane. They sent us on our way and when we finally located Diane and asked her if she were Diane, she currtley corrected us that she was "Diana". We were then taken into a conference room which was fully lighted and obviously thrown together in a last-minute scurry to accommodate an unexpectedly large crowd, atmosphere complete with large TV screens and folding doors to separate the conference room. That was the last time we saw a waitress. We walked down a long Corredor into the serving area. Things looked good however we had to ask for the shrimp and crab claws of which there were none at the display. On a positive note the shrimp were delicious when they arrived, though in short supply.That happened on 2 successive returns. The staff serving the shrimp was harried and clearly frustrated. They would only put out about 15 shrimp with each delivery. When we finally decided to eat our dinner we went through the line and by the time we got to the place where they were carving the turkey the turkey was clearly rare with a pinkness which we decided better off not to eat. Most of the other food entrées were good and in plenty. Eventually it appeared they ran out of dark meat turkey at the carving station as well. The rolls were at best day old and the crab claws dry to the bone... Is there a bone in a crab claw? When we were ready for dessert we were greeted by little pastries in tinfoil cups obviously purchased at the local quantity food store. Having had no waitress visit we were quite thirsty by the end of the meal. When we received the check we observed they had figured in an 18% gratuity automatically. For what? We had served ourselves and seen no waitress and sat in a sterile conference room with no view, no atmosphere, no music, not even Thanksgiving candle burning in sight. There was no one who came by and checked on our meal, no ask for refills, when we left the restaurant no one said goodbye... We had to ask for the check ourselves or we probably could've walked out... No "happy Thanksgiving!". A pretty dismal experience and obviously an unprepared staff. Hopefully the regular restaurant is in better form, but having traveled from Boston, We had high hopes are for this Stowe resort dining experience. Lesson learned... Stay home for Thanksgiving dinner. read more

Our dinner was carefully prepared excellently presented and delicious to the last bite. Creative dishes were all over the menu and we tried some great seafood. This was our first Thanksgiving being away for the holiday, and also our first time not cooking. We decided to go to dinner earlier this year, and accepted a 2pm reservation. This worked out as that hour was not crowded! Our only disappointment was not getting to sit upstairs for dinner. However, we were seated in the main area near the buffet, and it was cozy. I want to tell you there was something for everyone, but I have the pickiest 6 year old on the planet. We will leave it at that! The appetizer section. There was meat and cheeses, crab claws, shrimp (with a Bloody Mary cocktail sauce), Butternut squash soup, and 2 salad options. The main section had red wine braised short ribs with root vegetables, cider pork loin with pumpkin ravioli, roasted cod with I actually forget what, turkey that was deliciously tender, vanilla infused sweet potato gratin, chestnut fennel stuffing ( my favorite side there), green beans carrots and pearl onions, and rolls. I don't know if we tried everything, but what each person had they enjoyed! The dessert section had chocolate Carmel tarts, lemon meringue tarts (my favorite), apple pie (optional al a mode), walnut spice coffee cake, pumpkin pie, and black cherry captain crunch cheesecake which actually ended up being the least favorite. Our waiter was Ian, and he was friendly, and checked on us frequently. The rest of the staff also would jump in to clear plates and answer questions. Needless to say, for our first Thanksgiving out this was a success!! We will definitely be trying the full restaurant when we come up next August! read more

The service is incredibly slow. We've eaten here three times. We ordered lattes for breakfast and what we recieved was espresso shots with a small bit of milk. I'm wondering whether the female server actually understands how to make them. What is most frustrating is that we sat down at the same time as another family who had a different server. They have received their food and are finished. We are still waiting for food while the server is chatting about her life with other customers. Tried this restaurant for breakfast because you can sit outside and look at the mountains. I did just that and the setting was almost perfect. The pool guy using a electric leaf blower was annoying especially when he got close and blew dust toward where I was eating. At an establishment of this caliber you would think that they would do the cleaning before the restaurants opened. Anyway, I ordered coffee (three dollars a pot), which was okay but should have been better quality and French toast. The French toast sounded amazing on the menu-something about challah with grand marnier custard. Well, I couldn't tell it was challah or tasted anything but a ton of cinnamon. There was so much cinnamon that it actually started tasting like wheat bread and the color was speckled brown throughout. I was disappointed! I did appreciate the real maple syrup. Overall the food and coffee for me would warrant a 2.5. The ambience a 4.5. I am a fan for the setting not the food. I would return again and ask that they leave out the cinnamon. read more
