I have been searching for the best burger in Sarasota. Well I think I had it today at Alpines. I should have taken a picture, it was done perfectly, balanced inside its bun, topped with all my favs. The restaurant was immaculate and observing all Covid rules. I will be going back and dragging some others. Honestly, I wasn't dressed up enough to go to Connors. My husband had a filet mignon sandwich with onions off of the lunch specials, he said it was tender and juicy. We carted off the holiday take out menu so maybe we can try takeout for Christmas Eve. read more

It is so unfortunate to hear this place has had bad reviews because I NEVER give any restaurant 5 stars, but I absolutely had to. I always rate on 5 items, none of which have to do with drunk owners screaming at waitstaff AT ANOTHER RESTAURANT... If that is your experience, it had nothing to do with the Alpine Steakhouse and I have reported all of those reviews to have them removed. Anyway, that shouldn't deter from the reasons you go to a restaurant, which are: FOOD - 5. I believe if you stick with what they are known for, you will not go wrong. I've had NY Strips since I was 8 years old (I'm 56), in fine establishments throughout the US and have to say this was the best I've ever had. It literally melted in my mouth like a filet mignon. (I was in food & beverage at 5 star resorts, and a Catering Director, so I've eaten a lot of steak!) SERVICE - 5. Attentive, not intrusive, fun & friendly waitstaff. The deli guy was also friendly and helpful. COST - 5. Comparable pricing for steakhouses in the Sarasota area. Basic beer and drink prices + dessert prices were surprisingly low. CLEANLINESS - 5. Even the insides of the vents above us were clean! I look at floors, window sills, seats, walls, utensils, dust on bottles of wine...I couldn't find one thing to complain about. AMBIANCE - 5. Disappointing. Went there several times pre Covid and always had a good experience. Went today for lunch and while the service was spot on, the food was not worth what they are charging these days. Me friends lunch was flavorless and my cheesesteak was a lot of bun, little cheese, peppers and onions and the beef was stringy and not tender. Was excited about going there for lunch but will not be returning in the future. Too many better choices for your dining dollars here in Sarasota. read more

We had a Wiener Schnitzel, a Steak, Liver and Ribs. The liver was ok everything else was horrible. The Ribs sauce didn't taste good, the steak wasn't well cooked and the Schnitzel was prepared in the deep fryer. In addition the exhaust was not working properly and we all smelled horrible after the meal. Being German I can't believe that this restaurant apparently has German roots. Any decent German restaurant pan fry's a Schnitzel and would NEVER deep fry it as it gets dry and chewy. read more

This is definitely a good steakhouse. There are plenty of options to choose from. I ordered the filet, a side of mushrooms and onions, baked potato, and their famous gorgonzola salad to start. The salad was small, but very good. They have a really nice house vinaigrette. There was also plenty of bleu cheese crumbles to go with it. The steak was extremely tasteful. The mushrooms and onions I ordered on the side, however, did not have a strong flavor to them. They actually seemed to hinder experiencing the full flavor of the steak. I would recommend enjoying the steak by itself simply because of the quality of the meat. I left here full, and happy with my meal. The server was extremely friendly, as was the rest of the staff. I've visited here with my family and friends a number of times and have had a great experience every time. The wait staff have been very attentive and have successfully delivered our special requests every time. Personally, I love their steaks - extremely tasty and cooked as ordered. Recently I tried their burger it was tied with the best burger I've ever had - very juicy. I find the prices a little higher than say your local Longhorn restaurant, but the food is way better. Some of my other favs are the beef bone broth, the brussel sprouts fried in duck fat and the sauerkraut. I am looking forward to trying some of their other German dishes soon. read more

I learned about this place the night previous to my visit via the Food Network featuring it during their "dives, drive-ins and diners" (I probably screwed up the order of those, but you know what I mean). What caught my eye was their famed turducken. This is not John Madden's Turducken, which looks like Frankenstein's take on a Thanksgiving classic. This is a true masterpiece blending turkey, duck, and chicken to meld the flavors with a variety of stuffings and greens - delicious vibe to it! Menu looked fabulous online, and anticipated slurping down a few of their Oysters Rockefeller which appeared to have a generous amount of Pernod, which is a "lost art" with this dish. They even had an online ordering method for takeout. So why only 2 stars? Really, I'm giving it 2 stars because I believe the other reviewers. Otherwise I'd go one. If you read my reviews, I have a good balance and you really have to earn a bad review from me. I've even said outright a steak restaurant will not get less than a 3 star review from me based solely on their willingness to promote meat. Started when we tried calling to place an order but they were directing all calls to the website for takeout via voicemail. Thought that was a little odd but figured the TV publicity might have overwhelmed and if it was a "dive", then they probably had the voicemail set up to cover busy signals. I've worked in small restaurants and while your local crapplebees has a 2 ring policy, many local joints don't even answer the phone. So, we placed our order online and proceeded to make the 45-60 minute drive to Sarasota from my folks house. We arrive to an empty parking lot.... middle of the day on a Saturday (not a holiday). Guy walking back from the front door says they're closed for a wedding. nice... no message on the website, no message on their voicemail, and they're accepting orders for a day they're not open. In less than 5 minutes in their parking lot at 3pm (not a rush time for most restaurants), 3 customers came and went. I can only guess how many other customers who watched that Food network episode the previous evening who were either local or not local (like me) suffered the same experience. I'm not saying they should have been open, because that's the cool thing about owning your own restaurant - you don't have to be a slave to the machine. A wedding is more important than my family get-together's lunch, but c'mon. Let customers know so they don't waste a good chunk of their afternoon schleping around the gulf coast for a closed restaurant. How long does it take to record a voice mail, leave a blurb on a web page, or turn off the shopping cart? Unless this was an emergency elopement, then this wasn't a surprise for them - just either poor planning or just not caring. Now my dad has to go through the additional hassle of making sure they don't charge the card he used. Counting the extra time at Cracker Barrel grabbing some chow so we didn't come back to my mom and pregnant wife with no food, we blew 3 hours on a Saturday afternoon + the CC issue. Boo. read more

We purchased their ground sirloin and pork chops from the butcher part. Both were outstanding. Since we just bought a home 6 blocks away, this was a welcomed find. I'm so thrilled to find this sensible review for the Alpine Steak House. It is a landmark that needs so much more support. This place should be packed every night. Last week I went in there and their dinner specials included turducken (soon to be made famous on the Food Network) and NY Strip dinners. The NY Strip dinner was 9.95. Did you see that 9.95!!!!! And these are very good cuts of beef prepared by a kitchen that knows beef as good as anyone in the country. Granted the Alpine Steak House is not the place to go to pop the question or impress a big client, but it is a place to have the best steaks in town without worrying about a la carte sides, 15 dollar glasses of wine and a menu that forces you to choose between $30plus entrees. Sarasota has a true treasure in this place. I found one other very much like it in Oklahoma City once, strategically placed next to one of America's largest slaughterhouses. But I'm not inclined to make that trip too often for a great, well priced steak and red wine. I'll be back soon! read more

I was very disappointed. Went with my husband for our anniversary. Reviews said they had the best Turkucken in the state. Well if that is the best, I will pass. Mine had no duck and the turkey was dried out. The stuffing was passable after they gave me more gravy. I thought it was supposed to have two kinds of dressings according to the description. It did not. I expressed my disappointment when asked what I thought. Told them what I thought. They took 40% off my meal ($8.00 off a $19.99 dollar meal.) For appetizers we ordered the steakhouse onion which was good. Also ordered the grilled oysters. Do not order them. They were cooked to death. All the juice was taken out of the oyster and it was dried out flat against the shell. Asked what I thought and I told them. No one cared. I am sorry!! We will definitely not be back. read more

Known for the turduckin' that's what we had, & USDA choice prime beef em' It's a pretty cute little joint. It's not my type of food by choice, (too homey). I just don't understand why this place is not packed every night? Why go to a chain? I went there for dinner based on triple d. The restaurant was surprisingly busy for a Monday evening. We ordered a NY Strip steak and Turducken since the server raved about it. Although the strip steak was tender, it was not clearly dry aged as they stated. It came garnished with a small potato (well seasoned), but no vegetable. The Turducken was seasoned with garlic that made the flavor bitter due to it being burnt. The mashed potatoes were either over blended or out of box, and the gravy was gelatinous. The server noticed that the Turducken wasn't eaten and instead of offering a different meal, offered me cobbler. I didn't accept the cobbler, and left hungry. Our experiences with Triple D restaurants are hit and miss. This was definitely a miss. read more

I was a little shocked at how good this place was. We found it by driving up and down the road, and referencing Yelp before deciding... glad we went here. The Turducken is just like Guy Feiri says, off da hook ( this place was on tri[ple D )! I was unsure, and not sure if I wanted to take the chance for $20 .. but I tried it.. it was AWESOME! You have to try this. It is a little piece of specialness. I dont typically like duck, but the duck is almost undetectable.. the stuffing used is amazing and it is all put together really nicely. The wife had the fillet and was pretty impressed. This is a meat market / diner.... it looks kinda scary when you walk in,, its like stepping back into the 70's and might frighten those who arent used to scary places.. i dig places like this... the atmosphere was cool, the service was cool, and the food was amazing... Alpine has some good eats. The Philly Cheese steak is top notch. Skinny fries are tasty too. The atmosphere is also appealing. Red booths with a local diner like feel. But why this gets only 3 stars is because of two things. #1 - The service is a little slow. The several times I've been there for lunch, they have had only two servers for several tables. They're stretched too thin. #2- The meal is too expensive relative to other places. Yes, you can get the $5 BBQ brisket for lunch but you have to pay a couple dollars extra for the fries. Add in your drink and the tip and you're up to a $13 lunch. If I could walk out of there for $10, I would bump this up another star. If the company is paying, pick Alpine. If it's coming out of your pocket, there's better options. read more

My friends and I came here last week after finding out that Guy Fieri did a DDD show here so we had to check it out. I ordered the "Turducken Sandwich" and it was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had what a amazing creation its thanksgiving in a bite. There fries are amazing too I got the beer battered fries that came with the sandwich it was perfect. Stopped in to see what all the hype about the turducken is. Started with the pepper poppers for the appetizer, and found them to be quite delicious. They were a mixture of cream cheese and cheddar cheese so you were quite sure what you're going to bite into , but both equally delicious. Now for the reason I stopped in , the Turducken. I am Not sure what all the sensationalism is about. I found the pairing of the Duck, Turkey, and Chicken did not mesh well for me . Definitely a thumbs down ! Well least I tried it , but with every bite I was wishing I ordered the Porterhouse. On to dessert , I ordered the bread pudding and this was absolutely delicious love the amaretto sauce that was layered over it. I would rate this restaurant 3 stars , if I had the Porterhouse I may have rated higher but I can only compare it based on the Turdunken. read more

Imagine my surprise when there was only a whopping 6 cars in the parking lot...I find that a full lot indicates great food and 6 cars does not make for a full lot... The Alpine Steakhouse was featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives for their TurDucKen. I was tempted to try this semi-famous dish until I saw the prices on the menu - which by the way, was a paper placemat/menu combination, but they did have cloth napkins. The turducken meal was $20, which I might be willing to pay if I wasn't sitting in a restaurant that reminded me of an old IHop. The Alpine was over priced by at least 20%. For example, a basket of homemade chips was $5, French Onion Soup (a cup) was $6. I ordered the $9 philly cheesesteak sandwich and sweet potato fries. Outstanding menu however BIG city price with small portion sizes. Got home realizing they gave us the dinner menu and pricing at 1:30 p.m.! Menu pricing on their site is not current. Turducken speciality was $28. ONE SLICE, cold with a tablespoon of gravy. Actually plopped a small bowl (monkey dish) of mashed COLD potatoes on the large plate and that was my meal! Not even a house salad! No vegetable. No seasoning, all just plain! The elderly waiter didn't shave for the past two days, never said hello just what do you want to drink. Never checked back with us after serving. Had to call a waitress over for more ice-tea. We were very unimpressed with not only the service but the food, presentation and portions. We were still hungry after lunch. While featured on Diners, Drive In and Dives, I'd recommend you drive right past as we found the complete experience a disappointment. read more

We found this restaurant by looking up places the show Diners Drive Ins & Dives had featured. We were visitors to the area & love trying new places. The appearance is of an old diner. They have a meat counter where you can order fresh cut meats to take home. The menu has a variety but steaks are their specialty. The service was great and very friendly. A special garlic bread is served when you are seated. It's very yummy! We ordered the Delmonaco Steak and the Cowboy Steak. Both entrees were delicious. We tried the twice baked potato and French fries as sides. We were not disappointed. We will definitely make it a stop again when we are back in the area. No staff wore masks when we were there ..we picked up a take out order but we won't return. They don't seem to get it. I have no idea if the waitress or counter person is infected. It's really closer to a 3.5 review, but since I considered it a solid experience instead of great, I'm going with the 3. I had the turducken lunch. Duck, chicken, turkey, roasted red peppers, andouille sausage stuffing, and cornbread stuffing. Not to mention the mashed potatoes, gravy, and cranberries. Somehow, the lunch portion was only $15.00 and it was really a unique combination of tastes. I could have used a little dark meat though! Not sure why this place got any bad reviews. The decor is old fashioned but charming and very clean. For appetizers we had a shrimp cocktail and fried green tomatoes. The shrimp (6) where fresh and large and the fried green tomatoes where crispy and delicious survey with ranch dressing. For dinner we both ordered the special petite filet and 1/2 lb of snow crab legs along with a twice baked potato. The steaks were perfectly cooked and the twice baked potatoes were hot and very good. The only thing I would not order again are the snow crab legs. They were hardly worth the effort and there wasn't much to them all. So, all in all I will definitely go there again but skip the crab legs. Our total for two drinks, two appetizers, two twice baked potatoes, steak and crab legs came to around $77 before tip. read more
