We were going on the freeway and suddenly the car started acting up. We had to call our insurance so they can tow the car. The insurance have their suggestions on auto repair shop. So this place was one of the list. The tow truck got to the shop just right before closing for the day. We left it there and they said they were going to call us next day with the diagnostic and the repair estimate. Next day we received a call mid day and they told us what was sting with it. The belt and the tensioner got messed up. That made the temperature go up. Si they gave us the estimate. It was not cheap. It may seemed something easy but it was pricey. Well at least hit fixed and they said that their work was guaranteed. They had it ready around 5 pm. Right before closing. So far so good. No issues anymore. read more

When it comes to taking care of your car you should go to a place you can trust. That being said I trust this team with my sports car. I have had a few issues with my ride and each time they have been able to find the root cause and get it fixed at a reasonable price. Karen is a delight to work with and goes over pricing with you thoroughly and makes suggestions that could save money. Recently I had went in for a transmission issue but i wasnt certain what would be causing this. They ran some test but were not able to replicate the issue at first they called me to ask for permission to take the car for a further test drive and get more details of the issue i was having. I really liked this cause they were not going to do something i didnt approve of and showed they cared. After that they were able to replicate the issue and recommended a fix for it. They really make you feel at ease by going through the process step by step and with explanation of pricing and parts. horrible customer service, when i took my car in it was due to sugar in the gas tank which turn around was longer than expected which i had no issue, since my insurance was covering it, but before insurance covered damages i had bought parts to be put in my car which were never returned to me and they refused to reduce the price for the parts i had paid out of pocket for 2 months later my starter gave out and was told id be charged only for labor and part, but when i show up they add a diagnostic fee without my knowledge and clerk proceeds to insult me and call me broke and state i don't have money just say so. Very unprofessional and will not be using them again and advise against anyone else going to them. read more

I got a NEW transmission installed here through my max car warranty the transmission was not installed correctly which caused it to start leaking brought it in and a bolt was loose he said completely their fault and I still got charged over $200 to fix their mistake the receptionist tried to help void the bill but she was not able to after speaking to the owner I'm guessing. He said it looked like someone messed with it... BS. Who knows how long until it comes loose again. read more

Excellent experience having AC work done. Went into Al's shop after seeing a sign outside about AC work. Shop was super busy, but Al said he could have my car out the same day. He did a full diagnostic, leak check, refrigerant check, etc. Turns out all it needed was a new cabin air filter, since it was super dirty. Very communicative, gave me a call when he started work, and let me know when it was finished. No one else was willing to work on my Volvo! "Needed special tools" was the response I would get. I've had similar experiences, even with supposed "European shop" except they typically charge you a fortune!! Not a problem here! If you have a Volvo, or other less common make, come straight here. All I've had done so far is AC work, but I can tell you he works with honesty and from experience. I'll be back here for any future repairs. Honest, knowledgeable, efficient, and fairly priced. My Mom took her car in to have some work done. While her car was in their shop, my Dad's battery died. He went and bought one but didn't have the right tools to change it. He got a jump, went to Al's to pick my mom up, and they asked if they could squeeze him in to change his battery. Al's did, my mom asked how much, AND THEY SAID "DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT". I took my truck there because warranty was covered by them the reason for that was my transmission is down shifting hard while it was there I ask for an oil change I get a call latter that day saying its done. WOW Thats fast I asked Al if he fixed transmission he said nothing is wrong with it I then ask him to drive it more after a quarter tank his wife calls and said nothing wrong transmission is good. My wife is a white collar employee and she can even feel the issue well the end result was got truck back with greasy hand prints on door and hood and oil percent not reset with oil change.THIS GUY SUX DONT TAKE YOUR CAR THERE HES NO MECHANIC! read more

Came here for smog on a Saturday because I was selling my car. Got here when they opened and the smog guy was running late but once he got in, he worked on my car and got me in and out in 20 minutes. Although there is a general tendency among mechanic to rip off the customers, Al has charged me only for the parts and services my car really needed and I always had the best quotes from him. He even helped me to sell my old car and checked out the ones I wanted to buy, he has saved me more than $1,500 in parts and labor. We developed car trouble just outside of Fresno coming back from the Edison Lake area, something that couldn't wait until we got home to Berkeley. We remembered from our stop on the way in that there were lots of auto-related businesses on Blackstone and luckily we were only a few blocks away. Al's was just the first place we saw and we drove right in like we knew what we were doing. They were super nice and saw that I had a comfy place to sit with AC and a fan, since I was looking and feeling pretty ill at that point. Al was incredibly nice and took our car in right away. He explained the problem easily, and it made complete sense so we knew he knew what he was talking about. It wasn't a major repair, though important safety issue (broken caliper bolt), took less than 45 mins. and cost about a third of what I was prepared to pay to get us back on the road home via 99! Not sure if all car repair in Fresno works out this well but we were very pleased with Al and his staff. read more
