Calls me next day saying they're getting started on diagnostic, few hours later they call me with a 4/5000$ estimate. High estimates and high wait times. Next to a good barber, I feel like finding a reliable mechanic is next to impossible. My brakes were squeaking and I needed to make sure it wasn't anything serious. I searched on both Yelp and the internet to contrast and compare reviews before deciding on a location. Dick's popped up on my internet search and I saw that they have been in business since 1971. Smash cut to me opening their Yelp page to see a steady 4 1/2 star average with a lot of current reviews. I called to see if I could drop my car off and they mentioned they were booked solid, but I want I can drop it off anyway just in case somebody canceled or no-showed. They called around 3:30 to tell me everyone showed (I now know why) so they couldn't look at my car the same day. The next day I called and I was told my car was already on the lift and being inspected. A few hours later I got a call stating that my brakes actually looked really good. In fact, they looked at the drums, rotors, and even my struts to see if that was contributing to the noise. They said everything looked good and there's no need to replace brake pads or anything else for that matter. They told me if I wanted to stop the squeaking noise I could replace the brake pads, but that would just be an extra cost that my car didn't need. I gotta respect the honesty, they could've easily said you need to replace your brake pads just to get an extra thousand dollars out of me, but they didn't! They said, overall my car looked great for having 100k+ miles. They did recommend a transmission fluid flush (which has been told to me before) and to replace a valve cover gasket that was leaking oil. They did recommended two other items, but also stated those weren't immediate issues at the moment. I can't get over the level of customer service and courtesy at Dick's Automotive. Did I mention they reimbursed me for my Lyft ride from the shop back to my house when I initially dropped off my car?! read more

Had an Amazing customer service and Tow from Dick's Auto . They were called to Tow my Porsche Panamera... through AAA .... Wait was over an hour and I called to check in . Some one came right way and he was AWESOME- John came with A flat bed tow to my vehicle. He was super friendly and accommodating- he even helped me and the kids with my luggage to put into my friend's car . The kids were asking him what a tow truck was because they had never seen how it worked ...he was kind and patient with the lil ones and told them it's like an ambulance for a car haha and it need to be fixed. I thought that was cleaver and sweet. John W gave me his card and offered to drop my car off at the Porsche dealership so I didn't have to go. Hesitated to write this as wanted time to reflect. Have been using Dicks Automotive for almost 30 years: but, this last summer (Aug 2021) something happened. Perhaps I was rushing a service requested on a Ford F-150; had a deadline to be halfway across the country in 7 days. But, what transpired could have been addressed if the Service Writer would have taken the time to simply get a mechanic to look at the problem. On a Monday we took the truck in and asked that (1) the front wheel bearings be checked and (2) to check the hoses and belt status. After a service check, the radiator hoses were replaced and other service needs (oil change and brake lines flushed). When we took it in the AC worked perfectly as they had replaced the compressor and clutch a few years earlier. But, we picked up the truck upon being informed it was ready. So almost immediately on driving it off; the hot engine temp light came on as well as the service light and the AC no longer worked. Had my son take it back in and he was informed they suspected a vacuum leak and didn't have time to diagnose it between then and our leave date (Thursday). So, we cleared out the error code and drove it around as we prepped to leave town. The AC still didn't work but we were advised this wouldn't be a problem. On Thursday, another light came on and there was a perception by the service writer that it was a simple vacuum leak causing the error message and the AC to stop working. So, they attempted a vacuum leak repair and off we went. A caravan of 4 cars heading to various cities across the south west to drop kids off to college. The F-150 was heading to Texas. All seemed good and we headed up over to Mojave after stopping just outside of Arvin. I was informed the truck was blowing nothing but hot air (AC was broke) and despite some slow speeds made it over the top and on to Barstow. Stopped for lunch and let the cars cool down. Then proceeded on to Needles. But, the truck bumped down into limp mode and max speed was 40mph... Across the desert it was cooking (very hot) and my son complained about the excessive heat coming out of the Heat/AC blower. At Needles I agreed to switch vehicles. I jumped in the Truck and immediately noticed all the temp gauges were pegged (oil, tranny, and radiator) and the service codes were all lit up. Pulled into a service station with water available and proceeded to cool the radiator on the outside as well as anything on the block. After 40 minutes; checked the radiator and it was dry as a bone.. not a drop of moisture anywhere in the radiator... let it cool down another 45 min... then started to fill it and fill it and fill it. Started the engine up and then the thermostat opened and filled it a lot more... and more. Rechecked the tranny and oil. Added both fluids as well as the water. After 1.5 hours finally hit the road and guess what? The AC was working fine; no service lights; no hot engine lights; and no hot water indicator came on. My assessment suggested that after the hoses were changed out; no fluids were put back into the radiator when we were given the green light to leave. Understand, that we took this back in over 2 consecutive days to be checked after picking it up and were told it was good and a simple vacuum leak was to blame. But after I diagnosed the problem and initiated a solution to address the engine overheating issue - everything appeared to be working as expected just before we took it in for a costly servicing. The truck ultimately made it to Texas but, the next day; discovered that the right front wheel bearing was fused to the hub. Recall I asked this to be checked before leaving. Anyway, $1200 later in Texas the front right hub and both left and right bearings were replaced. Needless to say, in 30 years this was the first major issue received on car repairs. Don't forget we almost lost the engine despite asking the service tech 3 times about the leading problem indicator which was the AC not working. But anger doesn't help. Would I recommend them; yes because 30 years worth of positive work should not be discarded by one bad experience. But, I'd suggest that when you take it back in for a problem; insist on having Grant or another mechanic offer a second opinion over what the service writer suggests. Spare yourself the challenges we faced. Did we ask for any refund? No, the people at Dicks are a great team; but, like everything else... crap sometimes happens. I also recognized that schools today as well as myself failed to provide our kids Basic Auto Maintenance 101. But with my other son and daughter they learned quick what to look for and checked their cars as well. At this time it's good; but, really had to cool down over a few months before reacting emotionally. Again, I'd still use them; but, am a lot more discerning now on evaluating and trusting the results. read more

I took my car in because it was overheating and the a/c was not working. I chose this particular shop because they are listed as a partner shop for CarMax on RepairPal and my vehicle is under warranty with MaxCare. My deductible was $250 but I was charged $300. When I picked up my vehicle I noticed that my A/C was still not working. I called the shop and they let me know that I could bring it back in to be looked at but I didn't have free time or more money to take it in that soon. I spent the summer without A/C. Several months later, my vehicle began overheating again. I took it in and made sure to let them know that I wanted the A/C and heater fixed (specifically because I have a young child and a baby on the way- they can't survive the heat.) This time I was only charged a $250 deductible. When I picked it up I was told that it "should be working." My heater was working, it was a cold day and I couldn't tell if the A/C was working. As I drove home I noticed a really loud noise coming from under my hood. I called and was told that I could "bring it in again." After taking it to a new shop, I am aware that the non-operating A/C and loud noise are due to the A/C compressor clutch- an issue that didn't arise until I picked up my vehicle the second time. The shop told CarMax that it was an unrelated issue and would require another drop off and deductible (again, I don't have time or money to take my car in and out of the shop. I've already missed several days of work and getting a rental is a hassle and pricey.) I spoke with Carmax and they confirmed that any issues should have been resolved within that last visit. Conveniently for the shop, they never bothered to list my A/C as a concern on my receipts, and I was told that "only the primary issue is listen on the invoice, the other issues are passed along verbally." So there is not way of proving to CarMax that my A/C was ever an issue, and had I know that before, I wouldn't have left the shop without a more thorough invoice. The shop told CarMax that it was a separate issue, but told me that it was "working." How was my A/C supposedly working if it was a "separate issue" that they didn't work on? Why would they send me home twice without a working A/C, when they could've taken care of it all under my warranty and through my insurance while it was there? Does my $250-$300 deductible mean that much to them? I am disappointed that CarMax failed to assist me with the issue and chose to take the shops word over my own (considering they have records of me calling in to complain that my A/C wasn't working.) Save your time and money and take your vehicle elsewhere. These positive reviews were probably made by friends of the shop. Absolutely disappointed with the service I received. People always talk about shady shops that screw women over- this is the type. **Also, they broke off a piece of my gear shift and failed to replace it. read more

In December I took my Highlander in because the check engine light was on. There was an issue with the evap system that needed a new canister (because Toyotas make you replace the entire thing). At that time, Grant was wonderful and all was well. I took my car in early and got it back that afternoon. My car passed the smog test, but shortly thereafter the check engine light came back on. I tested it with my code reader and the same codes as before the repair work was done were coming up. I thought it must be a mistake, so I turned off the check engine light through the reader and carried on. But it continues to come on. I phoned the shop and explained to Larry what was happening and he told me to bring the car in so they could read the codes and figure it out. I called this morning to make sure the shop would be open after I got off work and Larry told me they would, and I went directly there. The shop closes at 5:00 and it wasn't yet 4:30. When I asked about them checking the check engine codes Larry then told me I'd have to leave the car (over the weekend). Now, I may be a woman, but I know that reading the codes for a check engine light takes less than 5 minutes. However, he was not even willing to offer that. All he said was that even with the codes they really wouldn't know what the issue was unless I left the car. This shop just "fixed" my car to the tune of almost $1500 and Larry tried to mansplain to me that they could not know what was wrong - even though their shop "fixed" my car. Common sense says a hose is not connected, or the mechanic simply forgot to reset the indicator for the check engine light. I despise being talked down to and treated like I don't know anything because I'm female. Yes, I will take the car back to Dick's because their job was to fix it and it clearly is not fixed. I just hope I am treated better than I was by Larry. read more
