This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had with any business. They are awful with their customer service, their bookkeeping, and their work. My wife and I had been there about 4 times for simple jobs - the work was fine, and they seemed nice. They ask for payment up-front, which I always gave along with a tip. So when I was charged $170 for 3 button-up shirt hems, 1 cuff hem, 1 sleeve hem, and 1 trouser hem, it seemed high but I was in a hurry and I gave them $180 in cash. When I returned to pick up my items, I dropped 2 more shirts off and gave them $40 in advance of that work. When I started to leave, they say, "what about the $170 you owe?" I said I already paid. They said "no you didn't." I said "I absolutely paid, don't you remember, I gave you $180 cash, you counted it in front of my face, and I made a joke about not trusting me." They wouldn't believe me! I finally convinced them I paid, but at that point I was miffed, so I asked for my shirts back and said I'd take them elsewhere. They give me the shirts back, but refused to give me the $40! Ugh! Finally they reluctantly give me the $40 back. When I get home... the work is terrible! The shirt hems are all totally straight across and uneven, some even point up at the front, which is really odd. They don't follow the proper curvature of a button-up shirt. I call them about this, and Tatyana says she'll send me a check for a refund. No check arrives... I see her coincidentally in the mall, and say I'm still waiting for the refund. "Oh, my boss says she has to see the shirts first." Except she never contacted me to inform me of this. I bring the shirts in a week or 2 later, but unfortunately the manager isn't there. Tatyana blatantly lies to me about the hems: "I asked you how you wanted them and you said you didn't care." This is absolutely NOT true. She NEVER asked me. I specifically said "the front and back should be the same length, I don't want a longer shirt tail." I ask her why it was so expensive, and she tallies up the charges and includes THREE cuff/sleeve hems. I said I only asked for ONE. She lies and says I asked for all three. There is NO WAY I asked for all 3, and we never took measurements for the other 2. In fact, I get back home and the sleeves for those 2 are way past my hands. Total rip off, terrible experience, just atrocious. read more

FIRST: When picking up the garment, they changed the price by trying to add more charges to their quoted charge. The ladies, in Russian accents, quoted a firm amount for alterations when we left the garment. The original quoted fee was $130. When we arrived to pick up the coat, the ladies wanted more money claiming that the job was harder than they originally estimated. We refused the shakedown. These people claim to have been in business for years and years, so they should be able to work up an estimate for their own work. The sleeves were taken up, and a button was re-sown on the garment all for $130. SECOND: The alterations requested were to take up the sleeves, taper the back waist and fix the button. The only work they did was to take up the sleeves and sew the button back on. The ladies wanted more money to do the tapering of the waist on the backside even though this is what the agreed to do with the original estimate. They said they would do the waist at a "DISCOUNT" for an additional $80. We refused the shakedown. THIRD: When we arrived to pickup the garment and pay the quoted fee of $130, the ladies said they did not take any cards, neither credit nor debit card. They said they would only take cash. THE LADIES NEVER WARNED US AT THE BEGINNING THAT THEY WOULD ONLY ACCEPT CASH. Note, they have credit card info on their door. One would ASSUME that cards are accepted if the business posts credit card info. FOURTH: The garment was not altered correctly. The sleeves were taken in, but they are still too long. The tapering of the waist that was promised was never done. We will never patronize this place again. Customer beware, they may try to add charges when you pick up your garment. read more

I've been here only twice for emergencies and rush turnarounds. Last time was 1 hour and she pulled it off. Not only did she pull it off, I gave her the wrong dimension and she made me wait as she fixed the waistline right then and there aaaaand didn't charge me for MY mistake. She's kind and professional. I had a very unique project - to replace a super long zipper in a large patio chair cover. In addition, due to the poor design of the original cover we had to redesign the whole cover. Laura and I spent time redesigning the improved cover together and the end result is amazing and exactly how we designed it. What was great about this experience was that Laura was very engaged from the beginning and immediately responsive, like when she called me to tell me that the zipper she ordered arrived so she could start the work. Best of all, despite having told be it would take a week, Laura called the next day and told me I could pick up my cover. I was a little hesitant to use this place as some of the more recent reviews were lacking, but i'm glad to report that I had excellent service! I had a compression garment that the zipper broke and needed it literally ASAP. Took it in, got the quote with "NEXT DAY SERVICE". Came in the next morning and it was ready for pick up. They USE to advertise same day service, but they now clearly state it's next day service. I thought $42 was a little price for a next day zipper, but the quality of work was magnificent. Laura is a talented, perfectionist, professional miracle worker. She reconstructed a trench coat to fit better and it was no easy feat. In fact, before finding Alterations To Go, I had interviewed some other tailors who friends had recommended and no one was willing to take on the challenge. I feel so lucky to have found Laura. I don't always write review but I have to give a 5 Stars to this one. First of all, this is the only place that will have someone answer the phone. I called and told them I need to alter my maxi romper and I need it by the next day. They said they can do it. So I went there and Laura is the lady who do my alterations. She is very nice and professional. I told her I want to take up form the shoulders because the neckline was too low for me. She can tell the maxi romper is just too big for me and that's true. You know what she did. She went above and beyond for her task, she did her magic and when I picked it up today. This maxi romper became so much fitted. I spent over $200 on a bridesmaid dress. Tatiana fixes it but then charges me $185 for alterations!! All the other bridesmaids did the exact same thing and they were only charged $60-80. If i would have known the price before her cutting into my dress, I would have gone somewhere else but she didn't even give me a quote in the beginning. She did a good job, just way too overly priced. I know we live in the bay but that's a ripoff. She even booked my second appt at 9 and then when I got there, they were closed and she forgot about my appt!! She didn't even give me extra off for her faulty appt set up. read more

I didn't get my bridesmaid dress altered here and deciding to go to another seamstress. She was professional but cold. She pinned my dress (which was big at the top, all the other bridesmaids had the SAME issue) way too high, it had an empire waist with bow that should have been under the bust however she pinned it in the middle of my bust. I am nursing so am large right now and asked her if there was something different she could do. She said the dress was unflattering to my figure, I am too big on top and thats the way it is. The last straw was when she broke down the pricing to me and came to $150. As politely as I could I stated it was much more than I had anticipated as other bridesmaids with similar alterations were getting quoted $60-80. She said those tailor's work is questionable. After all this, I couldn't leave my dress with her and told her I need to think about it more and she grabbed the dress from me to take her pins out. So, I came to Alterations To Go and they did a fabulous, reasonably priced job with my dress. I needed to hem and bustle my gown as well as take-in the bust area. I also needed a custom sash. Larissa is a master at her craft. She truly understands the female form and created a beautiful, perfectly tailored gown that looked exactly like the vision in my mind. In fact, my dress didn't come with the fixings needed for a bustle and she had to make everything from scratch. The end result was gorgeous and I had a ton of compliments just on the bustle alone. I know this is crazy but the main thing I love about this place is that they actually answer the phone. The owner is very friendly and informative. I came in with a bridesmaids dress that needed a new clasp, shoulder straps and to be hemmed. It ended up costing me $70-- this place is not cheap but their quality is great. They have 2 clean dressing rooms which is a relief. I've been to many dry cleaners where I had to try on my clothes in a dusty, small corner with a curtain. Oh and PS-- they only accept cash or check! There is an ATM at Lil Lucca's Deli next door though. read more
