It's been almost 6 months since I got to wear the perfectly altered wedding dress by Altered for the Alter. The dress: An Allure Bridal one of a kind. I was so blessed to find this little gem, off the RACK, on the very first day I went wedding dress shopping. This apparently was the only model in this style so what I saw was exactly what I walked home with - which meant that I would have to risk paying a lot of money to get it altered to my size. The details of this gown were ever changing, each time I tried it on I noticed details I hadn't seen before. I knew this had to be the one and I knew I had to find the best tailor in Dallas to get it just right. Ruth was an absolute DREAM!!! I had a scary experience with another tailor who took one look at my dress and told me there was nothing she could do about it. I was so terrified that I spent money on a dress that wasn't my size and that there would be no way to let it out. After I found Ruth's shop on Yelp, she took every concern I walked in with and from the moment I stepped into the dressing room she made me feel so calm and assured me that she could create something I would feel so beautiful in. Ruth was able to add in a corset to the back of the dress allowing it to fit my size perfectly!!! It's an intricately laced mermaid ivory-champagne bodice with a modest sweetheart neckline all sitting atop soft blush layers of tulle and the most beautiful train following every footstep. As you can see the details are insane so I have no idea how she did it! But I have recommended her to all my bride friends in the Dallas area and will continue to do so for years to come!! They took care of the alterations on my wedding dress for my October 2021 wedding and I really didn't have to do any work other than showup, put on my dress, and sip some champagne as they nipped, tucked, and pinned. I really had no idea what sort of alterations were needed on my dress, other than adding a layer of tuelle to the skirt, and the seamstresses knew EXACTLY what to do to make sure it was a perfect fit and that I would look my best in the dress! I am so thankful to her and the AFTA team for ensuring my dress looked perfectly on me so that it will be captured in pictures perfectly forever! They worked with me every step of the way and ensured I felt great/comfortable in my wedding dress. Technicalities and skills set aside, they were also so nice and genuine. They did make a slight mistake where they took in the dress too much, and then put in the corset but they fixed everything quickly, and on the last fitting they made minor adjustments within my appointment time frame so I could take it home that day! Altered for the Altar is totally worth the price and I would 100% recommend them because of the quality of their services and their phenomenal customer service! The owner is lovely and my seamstress Julia was amazing and so sweet. My dress basically needed to be overhauled because I bought it off the rack and it was a size smaller than I needed. They added boning for support, moved the lace, added nude modesty panels beneath the lace, hemmed the dress, added padding to the bust so I didn't have to wear a bra, took up the straps, and later they took my dress in at the waist after I lost 20 lbs in the last two months before my pick-up date. My alterations cost $1800 (the dress itself was only $900). They did a ton of good work so I felt that was a fair and reasonable price for the services. There was a minor problem with the boob cups (I felt like they looked strangely pointy and weird) which I mentioned to them but I didn't feel like the issue was fully resolved to my satisfaction. However, it was 100% my fault for not pressing the issue because if I had said something after picking up my dress, I know they would have fixed it for me. Everyone there was so nice that I didn't want to complain about such a small thing when they had worked so hard on my dress. All in all, people might get sticker shock when they hear the quote for the alterations but you get what you pay for with Altered for the Altar. Their work is quality and you will always walk out of there happy as long as you communicate with your seamstresses. There are so many steps in the process (multiple appointments spaced out over time and many opportunities to provide feedback on their work) that they make sure your dress looks exactly how you want it to look. You can probably find cheaper alterations services in Dallas but that's a pretty big gamble to take on your wedding dress! I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Unfortunately, the seamstress services provided by Altered for the Altered was disappointing and all around, terrible. I expected a certain level of service because they're located in the design district right next to the best bridal shops; however, my experience was chaotic, unprofessional, and extremely stressful. I chose this seamstress because they were recommended by my dress shop and their website promoted specializing in undergarments. My alteration request was a bodice fit and a higher slit. I was hoping that a spanx suggestion or a specialized undergarment would help the overall look of the dress but come to find out, they don't really specialize in undergarments, they just hang them in their shop for sell. During my 1st fitting (and the many subsequent that followed), I felt very rushed. It was obvious they were shuffling girls in and out constantly. I felt like just another number to them rather than getting the custom "bride experience" you get at nearby dress shops. They talk about the 2nd fitting being a "test fit" but my dress was so unaligned and deconstructed to a point where I was almost in tears. Rather than being understanding or expressing any empathy, they just shrugged and said "didn't you read our policy?". As professional seamstresses, surely they know that dress fittings can be highly intensive and stressful situations but regardless, Altered for the Altered communication skills were downright rude, disrespectful, and bad! I had to schedule another "2nd 2nd" fitting as they call it. When I came back I'll admit, the dress looked better but still needed a couple of minor adjustments. So when I came back for what should've been the last and final fitting, I was hopeful to have been wrong about my initial impressions. To my horror, nothing I had requested had been done, they forgot about my bussell and they brought me two other brides veils. The owner, Ruth, showed me that although they she had written down the minor dress alterations at my 2nd 2nd fitting, nothing had been done. There was no apology, just a suggestion that I come back for a "Final final" fitting. Its clear they had taken on too many brides and their quality and service was suffering severely. When I tried scheduling my final final fitting, their schedule was full and they wanted me to come back 1 day before my wedding. I told them that was too close so they reluctantly gave me an earlier slot even though it was their fault I was having to come back for a 5TH TIME! When I came back, they made me sign a form to leave with the dress stating that I was happy with the service but, in all honestly, I would've done anything so I could take my dress and leave. At that point, I (and my mom and friends) had taken off of work 5 times to be at these ill planned and poor quality bridal fittings. I literally had run out of time to have the perfect fit dress. Honestly I never write negative reviews because I like to give a business the benefit of the doubt but I felt compelled to write about my experience because these people were downright negligent with the most important dress a girl will buy in her life. I also felt it was important to tell my surly because I wasn't alone in this impression. On several occasions I witnessed multiple women coming in for "2nd 2nd" fittings and "final final" fittings almost as it was their standard procedure. If it is their normal process,it's certainly not advertised on their website as they so like to bring up. I felt like it was my duty to let other brides know whey kind of experience they're in for and it's not a good one. I would NOT recommend Altered for the Altered and think bridal shops should take them off of their preferred vendor list. They are not good. It was the absolute worst alteration experience I've ever been through and talking to other brides, this is not normal and there are much better places to take your dress. I was intimidated by the fees they charged just for an initial opinion so I just choose to trust the process and let them do my alterations. This was the biggest mistake of my entire wedding process. Shop around, make sure you know who is actually doing the alteration work on your dress, and please beware before moving forward with Altered for the Alter. read more

The tailors are nice and friendly. I believe they had good intentions but they didn't do a good job considering a 5-star rating. I paid almost $700 on two of my wedding dresses. Here's why. 1. They left a needle in my wedding dress (See attached photo). I should have checked the dress when I picked it up. However, leaving a needle in the pick-up dress was unacceptable regardless whether or not I have checked my dress. Too bad that I have signed the consent form that the dress was okay when I picked it up without checking it. 2. I ended up with 6 visits (5 for fittings and 1 for pick-up) because they didn't do the job right based on what we agreed upon and what I paid for. On my last alteration, my alteration stylist's mother had to alter my dress because her daughter was on honeymoon. 3. They didn't put new buttons on one of my two dresses that I requested and paid extra for until the fourth fitting visit (this dress was done after the third visit and I reminded them to change buttons every time). They only initially cleaned the buttons instead of changing the new ones which I was charged extra for. 4. They lost my designer tag (Mila Nova - Jeneva) and told me that it wasn't their fault. If it was attached to the dress, someone would keep it. Instead, the owner gave me another Mila Nova tag from a different style and size and said that this was the only one she had). I asked the person who helped me change the dress initially whether or not I could leave the tag on and she said yes because everything would be kept as is). I told them on my first visit that I needed the original tag kept because I planned to sell my dress. If the owners read this comment and have any issue or concern, please let me know because everything I said was true. read more

I was referred here by a friend after the last alterations place I went to ruined my dress. I was able to get an appointment quickly. I had about 40 days before my wedding. I had my initial fitting, a second fitting and a final fitting, picking up my dress about 4 days before my wedding. My alterations were PERFECT When you arrive and check-in, they will offer you a glass of champagne or a bottle of water. You will only wait a moment before being escorted to your fitting area. It's not a "room" per se. It is a large area with a secure curtain and plenty of seating for your guests. So the owner had previously done my friend's dress years prior and she did a great job so decided to try her for my dress. At first I thought the price I was quoted was to high so I took a week to get pricing from other tailors. For the basic wedding dress adjustments the other companies were a little bit cheaper or the same. But most of the other companies did not do custom work which I definitely needed. Because I didn't know anything about the other companies that did custom work, I didn't want to take a chance. The dress came out perfect. Everyone loved my dress. Let me start off by saying Altered for the Altar is a godsend. Not only did they do a fabulous job on my wedding dress and were so attentive to what I needed, but they were able to assist me in a wedding crisis :) My Maid of Honor's dress was altered by another tailor and he ended up getting something on the dress and told her to dry clean it (I'll save my thoughts for this topic for another review). She then took it to the cleaners and I am not sure what transpired but the fuchsia dress ended up having black all along the seems. This is all a week before my wedding and the dress was pretty much ruined. I rushed the dress to Ruth and her team and they were more than willing to help me. I think at one point we had the entire crew brainstorming about what to do. We ended up overnighting fabric from the designer and Ruth is currently working on reworking the dress. I cannot tell you how thankful I am for Altered for the Altar. They are all so helpful, warm, friendly and have great senses of humor. I trust them hands down and I would give them 100 stars if I could.
